Abstract:By establishing the intrinsic relation between the S-curvature and the flag curvature we investigate the Finsler spaces with constant S-curvature. In particular, we show that any Finsler space of scalar curvature and constant S-curvature is a constant curvature space if its dimension >= 3.

Abstract:The geometric characterization and structure of Finsler manifolds with constant flag curvature (CFC) are studied. It is proved that a Finsler space has constant flag curvature 1 (resp. 0) if and only if the Ricci curvature along the Hilbert form on the projective sphere bundle attains identically its maximum (resp. Ricci scalar). The horizontal distribution H of this bundle is integrable if and only if M has zero flag curvature. When a Finsler space has CFC, Hilbert form’s orthogonal complement in the horizontal distribution is also integrable. Moreover, the minimality of its foliations is equivalent to given Finsler space being Riemannian, and its first normal space is vertical

Abstract:The flag curvature of a Finsler metric is called a Riemannian quantity because it is an extension of sectional curvature in Riemannian geometry. In Finsler geometry, there are several non-Riemannian quantities such as the (mean) Cartan torsion, the (mean) Landsberg curvature and the S-curvature, which all vanish for Riemannian metrics. It is important to understand the geometric meanings of these quantities. In this paper, we study Finsler metrics of scalar curvature (i.e., the flag curvature is a scalar function on the slit tangent bundle) and partially determine the flag curvature when certain non-Riemannian quantities are isotropic. Using the obtained formula for the flag curvature, we classify locally projectively flat Randers metrics with isotropic S-curvature.

Abstract:In this article, we characterize two particular closed Finsler spaces in terms of the flag curvature tensor. That is, with respect to the L_2 inner product of the space of all symmetric 2-tensor on the projective sphere bundle, a Finsler structure has Landsberg (Berwald resp.) type if and only if its flag curvature tensor is orthogonal to some given line (plane resp.). Using a result of Akbar-Zadeh we give a unifying description for three special closed Finsler manifolds.

In this paper, we determine the flag curvature of a Finsler metric produced from any Finsler metric and any conformal field in terms of the navigation problem, and therefore we provide a unifying framework for the fundamental equations due to Bao, Robles, and Shen, Cheng and Shen, Foulon, and Mo and Huang.

Abstract:In this paper, we study Finsler metrics of constant S-curvature. First we produce infinitely many Randers metrics with non-zero (constant) S-curvature which have vanishing H-curvature. They are counterexamples to Theorem 1.2 in [20]. Then we show that the existence of (alpha, beta)-metrics with arbitrary constant S-curvature in each dimension which is not Randers type by extending Li-Shen' construction.

Abstract:In this paper, we study Finsler surfaces of constant (flag) curvature. We show that the space of those, with two-dimensional isometric group depends on two arbitrary constants. We also give a new technique to recover Finsler metrics from the specified two constants. Using this technique we obtain some new Finsler surfaces of constant flag curvature with two-dimensional isometry group.

Abstract:The S-curvature is one of most important non-Riemannian quantities in Finsler geometry. It delicately related to Riemannian quantities. This note gives an explicit construction of 3-parameter family of non-locally projectively flat Finsler metrics of non-constant isotropic S-curvature. Abstract:Spherically symmetric Finsler metrics form a rich class of Finsler metrics. In this paper we find equations that characterize spherically symmetric Finsler metrics of scalar flag curvature. Abstract:In this paper, we study locally projectively flat Finsler metrics of constant flag curvature. We find equations that characterize these metrics by warped product. Using the obtained equations, we manufacture new locally projectively flat Finsler warped product metrics of vanishing flag curvature. These metrics contain the metric introduced by Berwald and the spherically symmetric metric given by Mo-Zhu.

Abstract:By using the volume form induced from the projective sphere bundle of the Fiusler manifold,the Finsler geometry of submanifolds is studied.The first variation formula of the volume functional for Fiusler submanifolds is derived.The second fundamental form and the mean curvature form for Finsler submanifolds are defined,which coincide with the usual notions for the Riemannian case.By deriving the divergence formula on the fiber of the projective sphere bundle,a simple equivalence expression of the mean curvature form is given.Some interesting results for Finsler submanifolds in the Minkowski space are established.

Abstract:Finsler manifolds are differentiable manifolds equipped with Riemannian metrics without the quadratic restriction. In this paper, some recent developments and new results on curvatures and fundamental groups of Finsler manifolds are summarized briefly. The contents contain the growth of fundamental groups, the entropy of manifolds and fundamental groups, the first Betti number and the finiteness of fundamental groups.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove a global rigidity theorem for negatively curved Finsler metrics on a compact manifold of dimension it greater than or equal to 3. We show that for such a Finsler manifold, if the flag curvature is a scalar function on the tangent bundle, then the Finsler metric is of Randers type. We also study the case when the Finsler metric is locally projectively flat.

Abstract:We study two-dimensional Finsler metrics of constant flag curvature and show that such Finsler metrics that admit a Killing field can be written in a normal form that depends on two arbitrary functions of one variable. Furthermore, we find an approach to calculate these functions for spherically symmetric Finsler surfaces of constant flag curvature. In particular, we obtain the normal form of the Funk metric on the unit disk D^2.

Abstract:(α, β)-norms on \({\mathbb{R}^N}\) induce Minkowski metrics, and the construction of related homothetic vector fields gives a family of new Finsler metrics of non-positive constant flag curvature for each non-trivial (α, β)-norm. The dimension of this family is at least \({\tfrac{1}{2}(N^2 - N + 4)}\) . In particular, we generalize the Funk metric on the unit ball via navigation representation of the standard Euclidean norm and the radial vector field. Finally, we describe the geodesics of these new Finsler metrics with constant flag curvature.
