Abstract:The halo properties of the odd light nuclei have been studied with the deformed Skyrme‐Hartree‐Fock model, in which the blocking effect of the odd nucleon is taken into account. For nuclei near drip lines, the pairing was treated in the frame of Lipkin‐Nogami method, using a volume‐surface mixing paring interaction. The 1/2+ state in 11Be was calculated to have a very large soft deformation. The origin of deformed halo structures was discussed.

Abstract:The neutron-rich nucleus Be-11 is one of the most enigmatic exotic nuclei in the periodic table. It exhibits a multitude of unique and intriguing phenomena within a single nucleus, including the halo phenomenon, clustering structure, and parity inversion. A unified description of these exotic properties represents a significant challenge for the nuclear physics field. By employing the axially deformed relativistic Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (D-RHFB) model, we have successfully reproduced the parity inversion and the one-neutron halo in Be-11, and revealed the underlying cluster structure. It is found that the intrusion of the sd-shell, which results in the parity inversion, is coherently connected with the halo and cluster structures. In particular, the s-wave is responsible for the halo formation, and the mixing of 2s1/2- and 1d5/2-waves enhances the cluster structure. This work elucidates the coherence between the parity inversion and the halo/cluster structures of Be-11, and addresses the long-standing challenge of providing a unified explanation for the multiple exotic phenomena observed in Be-11.

Abstract:The structures of N=7 isotones have been investigated using the deformed Skyrme–Hartree–Fock model. The approximate particle number projection by means of the Lipkin–Nogami method was used with the blocking effect of the odd neutron taken into account. For nuclei near the drip lines, a volume–surface mixing pairing interaction was employed, which can well reproduce odd–even differences for the long chain of carbon isotopes up to drip lines. The calculated potential-energy curve shows that the first 12+ state of the 11Be nucleus has a very large prolate deformation. Such a large deformation can result in a good agreement between the calculated and experimental density distribution of the nucleus. The first 12+ state in 13C is also calculated to have a large deformation, and the 12+ state in 9He could be a spherical halo attached to a deformed core. The possible halo structure of the 12+ neutron orbit in the N=7 isotones is discussed.

Abstract:The density-dependent relativistic mean-field theory, without introducing any adjustment, is applied to the nuclei Be-12, Be-14, Ne-30 and Ne-32. Contrary to the failure of the relativistic mean-field theory for the halo nuclei Be-14 and Ne-32, the density-dependent relativistic mean-field theory, in which the relativistic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock results of nuclear matter have been incorporated, can satisfactorily reproduce the experimental data of the binding energy and the abnormally large root-mean-square radius. It is also predicted that the halo neutrons in Be-14 occupy the 2s(1/2) level instead of the 1d(5/2) level and the halo neutrons in Ne-32 occupy the 2p(3/2) and 2p(1/2) levels instead of the 1f(7/2). Unified mechanism behind the even-parity ground state and neutron halo of $^{11}$Be

Abstract:Using the axially deformed relativistic Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (D-RHFB) model, we explore the mechanism behind the parity inversion and halo occurrence in $^{11}$Be, which are well reproduced by the RHF Lagrangian PKA1. It is illustrated that evidently enhanced deformation effects by the $\pi$-pseudo-vector and $\rho$-tensor couplings in PKA1 are crucial for correctly describing both even-parity ground state (GS) and neutron halo of $^{11}$Be. Coupling with the deformation, the intrude $1d_{5/2}$ component largely enhances the couplings between the even-parity orbit $1/2_2^+$ and the nuclear core to promise the even-parity GS, whereas the $2s_{1/2}$ component therein dominates the halo formation in $^{11}$Be. Moreover, the deformed halo in $^{11}$Be is found to be stabilized by the attractive inherent correlations between the $1d_{5/2}$ and $2s_{1/2}$ components of the halo orbit $1/2_2^+$, instead of pairing correlations, which paves a new way to understand the halo pictures in deformed unstable nuclei.

Extended Glauber Theory and Its Application in Halo Nucleus Scattering

Abstract:We introduced an extended Glauber theory for a halo nucleus scattering, where the halo nucleons and the nuclear core were treated separately. Expressions of reaction and interaction cross sections of the halo nucleus scattering were derived. We took the halo structure of the projectile nucleus into account and adopted an improved optical-limit approximation. In the framework of the extended Glauber theory, we studied the reaction cross section for the halo nucleus Be-14 scattering on a target C-12. For comparison, the reaction cross sections of Be-12 + C-12 were calculated as well. The density distribution of target C-12 is taken from experiments, and those of the projectiles Be-12 and Be-14 were obtained by two methods. One is that the harmonic oscillator wave functions for Be-12 and Be-14 are used. The length of harmonic oscillator is adjusted to reproduce the reaction cross section of Be-12 + C-12 at the high energy E = 790MeV/u. The density distribution of Be-14 was also calculated self-consistently in the relativistic mean field (RMF) theory, with a long tail wave functions for the two neutrons in Be-14. It was found that the calculated reaction cross sections for Be-12 + C-12 at E = 790MeV/u and E = 56.5MeV/u were in good agreement with the experimental data no matter harmonic oscillator or RMF wave functions were used. In contrast, the experiments of the reaction cross sections for Be-14 + C-12 could only be reproduced when the wave functions of two 2s(1/2) neutrons spreaded over with a long tail. It comes to a conclusion that two outside neutrons in Be-14 form a halo structure.

Abstract:Background: The recent experimental discovery of drip-line nucleus 39Na has attracted great interest in theoretical studies of exotic nuclear structures in this mass region. Methods: We solve the Skyrme–Hartree–Fock–Bogoliubov (Skyrme-HFB) equation within deformed coordinate-spaces. The present approach is suitable for descriptions of weakly bound deformed nuclei with continuum effects and deformed halo structures. Results: The systematical two-neutron separation energies are obtained with the SkMext1* and UNEDF0ext1 forces for Na and Mg isotopes close to the neutron drip line. The density distributions show that 39Na and 42Mg have deformed halo structures. Furthermore, there are significant influences of various pairing interactions on halo shapes at large distances. Conclusions: Both 39Na and 42Mg are very weakly bound with well prolate deformed cores. However, their surface halo structures are dependent on the choices of pairing interactions. The volume-type pairing interaction tends to predict a prolate deformed halo, while the halo deformations at large distances are reduced by adopting the surface pairing. We demonstrate that 39Na and 42Mg are promising candidates for two-neutron deformed halo nuclei.

Abstract:Halo phenomenon in deformed nuclei is studied by using a fully self-consistent deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov model in a spherical Woods-Saxon basis with the proper asymptotic behavior at large distance from the nuclear center. Taking a deformed neutron-rich and weakly bound nucleus 44Mg as an example and by examining contributions of the halo, deformation effects, and large spatial extensions, we show a decoupling of the halo orbitals from the deformation of the core.

Abstract:The exotic deformed nucleus 31Ne is studied with an approach that combines self-consistent structure and reaction theories. The deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum (DRHBc) is utilized to demonstrate that deformation and pairing correlations give rise to a halo structure with a large-amplitude p-wave configuration in 31Ne. Then the valence nucleon wave functions and angle-averaged density distributions of 30Ne from this theory are used as input for the Glauber reaction model to study the observables of neutron-rich neon isotopes to search halo signatures. With NL1 effective interaction, our predictions of the reaction cross sections for these exotic neon isotopes on a carbon target can better reproduce the experimental data than those from the relativistic mean field model for a spherical shape with resonances and pairing correlation contributions, and are roughly 3.3% (∼ 50 mb) larger than those with Gaussian function-fitted densities of the core nuclei. The calculated one-neutron removal cross section at 240 MeV/nucleon, and the inclusive longitudinal momentum distribution of the 30Ne residues from the 31Ne breakup reaction are largely improved over previous theoretical predictions and agree well with data. These reaction evaluations indicate a dilute density distribution in coordinate space and are a canonical signature of a halo structure. Moreover, our predictions with the NL3 and PK1 effective interactions give slightly better descriptions of reaction observables for exotic neon isotopes.

Abstract:The effects of deformation and the change of the nuclear core on the hyperon binding and halo structure in single -A p-shell hypernuclei are studied for the C hyperisotopes and N = 6 hyperisotones in the framework of the deformed Skyrme-Hartree-Fock approach with combinations of the NN interactions SIII, SGII, SkI4 and the AN interactions LY1 and SLL4, respectively. Deformation causes more deeply bound states with smaller extension of the density distributions and radii. The possibility of deformed halo structures of A 1p states in hypernuclei up to a mass number A = 15 is found.

Abstract:The nonlocalized clustering approach is generalized to 8-11Be isotopes with isospin dependent spin-orbit potential. A new form of the Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-Röpke (THSR) wave function is introduced to provide a correct description for the σ-binding neutron in 11Be. Systematic calculations for 8-11Be isotopes are performed and results fit well with experimental values. The low energy spectrum of 11Be is also obtained, especially the correct spin-parity 1/2+ is reproduced for the intruder ground state. The exotic neutron halo structure of 11Be is studied by calculations of root-mean-square radii and density distribution. We obtain a large spatial distribution for the last valence neutron of 11Be, which fits the phenomenological extracted value from experimental data. The spectroscopic factor is also calculated and discussed for the 1/2+ ground state of 11Be.

Abstract:We study the hypernuclei of C and B isotopes by Hartree-Fock model with Skyrme-type nucleon-nucleon and nucleon-hyperon interactions. The calculated $\Lambda$ binding energies agree well with the available experiment data. We found halo structure in the hyperon $1p$-state with extended wave function beyond nuclear surface in the light C and B isotopes. We also found the enhanced electric dipole transition between $1p$- and $1s$-hyperon states, which could be the evidence for this hyperon halo structure.

Abstract:The weakly bound nucleus F-29 locates near the neutron drip line. Experiments have confirmed that it is the heaviest two-neutron halo nucleus discovered up to now. To understand the halo structure in F-29, we explore the weakly bound and resonant levels close to the Fermi surface with the complex momentum representation method. Not only the narrow resonances and the broad resonances. Since the broad resonance 2p (3/2) is disclosed, the p - f inversion and N = 20 shell gap quenching are found. The last valence neutron can occupy the weakly bound level 1/2[310], composed mainly of p (3/2)-component, or the 1/2[211], composed mainly of s (1/2)-component. Since the wavefunctions of p and s-components extend to a large range in the coordinate space, which results in the density distributions of the levels 1/2[310] and 1/2[211] being considerably diffuse. This is the most likely cause of halo formation in F-29 and the halo may be formed by the p-component, s-component, or their mixtures by pairing correlations.

Abstract:We extend the new concept of nonlocalized clustering to the nucleus 10Be with proton number Z=4 and neutron number N=6 (N=Z+2). The Tohsaki-Horiuchi-Schuck-R\"opke (THSR) wave function is formulated for the description of different structures of 10Be. Physical properties such as energy spectrum and root-mean-square radii are calculated for the first two 0+ states and corresponding rotational bands. With only one single THSR wave function, the calculated results show good agreement with other models and experimental values. We apply, for the first time, the THSR wave function on the chain orbit ({\sigma}-orbit) structure in the 0^+_2 state of 10Be. The ring orbit ({\pi}-orbit) and {\sigma}-orbit structures are further illustrated by calculating the density distribution of the valence neutrons. We also investigate the dynamics of ff-clusters and the correlations of two valence neutrons in 10Be.

Abstract:We have calculated the ground state properties of N = 11 proton-rich isotones in the Hartree-Fock model with force parameters SkI4, SkI2, and SkI3 (Reinhard and Flocard 1995 Nucl. Phys. A 584 467). Calculations show that the Skyrme - Hartree - Fock model provides a good description on the binding energy of above nuclei. The Skyrme - Hartree - Fock model also predicts that there exist proton halos in proton-drip-line nuclei and and this agrees with results in the relativistic mean-field model and the nuclear shell model.

Abstract:Halo phenomena in deformed nuclei are investigated within a deformed relativistic Hartree Bogoliubov (DRHB) theory. These weakly bound quantum systems present interesting examples for the study of the interdependence between the deformation of the core and the particles in the halo. Contributions of the halo, deformation effects, and large spatial extensions of these systems are described in a fully self-consistent way by the DRHB equations in a spherical Woods-Saxon basis with the proper asymptotic behavior at large distance from the nuclear center. Magnesium and neon isotopes are studied and detailed results are presented for the deformed neutron-rich and weakly bound nucleus $^{44}$Mg. The core of this nucleus is prolate, but the halo has a slightly oblate shape. This indicates a decoupling of the halo orbitals from the deformation of the core. The generic conditions for the occurence of this decoupling effects are discussed.
