Abstract:In this paper we propose an interesting scheme for quantum games. It is found that, for the particular case of the famous Prisoners' Dilemma game, the superiority of the quantum game over its classical counterpart is interconnected to the non-classical quantum correlation between the two players.

Abstract:We use the example of playing a 2-player game with entangled quantum objects to investigate the effect of quantum correlation. We find that for simple game scenarios it is classical correlation that is the central feature and that these simple quantum games are not sensitive to the quantum part of the correlation. In these games played with quantum objects it is possible to transform a game such as Prisoner's Dilemma into the game of Chicken. We show that this behaviour, and the associated enhanced equilibrium payoff over playing the game with quantum objects in non-entangled states, is entirely due to the classical part of the correlation. Generalizing these games to the pure strategy 2-player quantum game where the players have finite strategy sets and a projective joint measurement is made on the output state produced by the players, we show that a given quantum game of this form can always be reproduced by a classical model, such as a communication channel. Where entanglement is a feature of the these 2-player quantum games the matrix of expected outcomes for the players can be reproduced by a classical channel with correlated noise.

Abstract:Many previous works on quantum games are based on maximally entangled states. In this Letter, we investigate the correlations between entanglement and quantum games. For the particular case of the quantum prisoners' dilemma, the property of the game changes fascinatingly with the variation of entanglement of the game's state.

Abstract:This article uses data from two experimental studies of two-person Prisoner's Dilemma games [1, 2] and compares the data with the theoretic predictions calculated with the use of a quantum game theoretical method. The experimental findings of the cooperation percentage Cp indicate a strong connectivity with the properties of a novel function (N), which depends on the payoff parameters of the game and the entanglement parameter . A classification scheme depending on four quantum cooperation indicators is developed to describe cooperation in real two-person games. The quantum indicators lead to results, that are at least as good as the cooperation predictions derived from classical game theory.

Abstract:We generalize the quantum Prisoner's Dilemma to the case where the playersshare a non maximally entangled states. We show that the game exhibits anintriguing structure as a function of the amount of entanglement with twothresholds which separate a classical region, an intermediate region and afully quantum region. Furthermore this quantum game is experimentally realizedon our nuclear magnetic resonance quantum computer.

Abstract:The discontinuous dependence of the properties of a quantum game on itsentanglement has been shown up to be very much like phase transitions viewed inthe entanglement-payoff diagram [J. Du et al., Phys. Rev. Lett, 88, 137902(2002)]. In this paper we investigate such phase-transition-like behavior ofquantum games, by suggesting a method which would help to illuminate the originof such kind of behavior. For the particular case of the generalized Prisoners'Dilemma, we find that, for different settings of the numerical values in thepayoff table, even though the classical game behaves the same, the quantum gameexhibits different and interesting phase-transition-like behavior.

Abstract:The last two decades have witnessed a rapid development of quantum information processing, a new paradigm which studies the power and limit of "quantum advantages" in various information processing tasks. Problems such as when quantum advantage exists, and if existing, how much it could be, are at a central position of these studies. In a broad class of scenarios, there are, implicitly or explicitly, at least two parties involved, who share a state, and the correlation in this shared state is the key factor to the efficiency under concern. In these scenarios, the shared entanglement or discord is usually what accounts for quantum advantage. In this paper, we examine a fundamental problem of this nature from the perspective of game theory, a branch of applied mathematics studying selfish behaviors of two or more players. We exhibit a natural zero-sum game, in which the chance for any player to win the game depends only on the ending correlation. We show that in a certain classical equilibrium, a situation in which no player can further increase her payoff by any local classical operation, whoever first uses a quantum computer has a big advantage over its classical opponent. The equilibrium is fair to both players and, as a shared correlation, it does not contain any discord, yet a quantum advantage still exists. This indicates that at least in game theory, the previous notion of discord as a measure of non-classical correlation needs to be reexamined, when there are two players with different objectives.

Abstract:We apply a Bayesian agent-based framework inspired by QBism to iterations of two quantum games, the CHSH game and the quantum prisoners' dilemma. In each two-player game, players hold beliefs about an amount of shared entanglement and about the actions or beliefs of the other player. Each takes actions which maximize their expected utility and revises their beliefs with the classical Bayes rule between rounds. We simulate iterated play to see if and how players can learn about the presence of shared entanglement and to explore how their performance, their beliefs, and the game's structure interrelate. In the CHSH game, we find that players can learn that entanglement is present and use this to achieve quantum advantage. We find that they can only do so if they also believe the other player will act correctly to exploit the entanglement. In the case of low or zero entanglement in the CHSH game, the players cannot achieve quantum advantage, even in the case where they believe the entanglement is higher than it is. For the prisoners dilemma, we show that assuming 1-fold rational players (rational players who believe the other player is also rational) reduces the quantum extension [Eisert, Wilkens, and Lewenstein, Phys. Rev. Lett. 83, 3077 (1999)] of the prisoners dilemma to a game with only two strategies, one of which (defect) is dominant for low entanglement, and the other (the quantum strategy Q) is dominant for high entanglement. For intermediate entanglement, neither strategy is dominant. We again show that players can learn entanglement in iterated play. We also show that strong belief in entanglement causes optimal play even in the absence of entanglement -- showing that belief in entanglement is acting as a proxy for the players trusting each other. Our work points to possible future applications in resource detection and quantum algorithm design.

Abstract:We introduce and examine three subclasses of the family of quantum no-signalling (QNS) correlations introduced by Duan and Winter: quantum commuting, quantum and local. We formalise the notion of a universal TRO of a block operator isometry, define an operator system, universal for stochastic operator matrices, and realise it as a quotient of a matrix algebra. We describe the classes of QNS correlations in terms of states on the tensor products of two copies of the universal operator system and specialise the correlation classes and their representations to classical-to-quantum correlations. We study various quantum versions of synchronous no-signalling correlations and show that they possess invariance properties for suitable sets of states. We introduce quantum non-local games as a generalisation of non-local games. We define the operation of quantum game composition and show that the perfect strategies belonging to a certain class are closed under channel composition. We specialise to the case of graph colourings, where we exhibit quantum versions of the orthogonal rank of a graph as the optimal output dimension for which perfect classical-to-quantum strategies of the graph colouring game exist, as well as to non-commutative graph homomorphisms, where we identify quantum versions of non-commutative graph homomorphisms introduced by Stahlke.

Abstract:Quantum game is an interesting field and many scientists have done a lot of innovative work in it. We give a quantum model about incomplete information. In this model we find whether the pure-strategy Bayes-Nash equilibrium exists or not is strongly dependent on the entanglement of the initial state. We also find the player Bob can always find an initial state and a pure-strategy Bayes-Nash equilibrium to get more payoff than classical game with some parameter.

Abstract:A probabilistic framework is developed that gives a unifying perspective on both the classical and the quantum games. We suggest exploiting peculiar probabilities involved in Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) experiments to construct quantum games. In our framework a game attains classical interpretation when joint probabilities are factorizable and a quantum game corresponds when these probabilities cannot be factorized. We analyze how non-factorizability changes Nash equilibria in two-player games while considering the games of Prisoner's Dilemma, Stag Hunt, and Chicken. In this framework we find that for the game of Prisoner's Dilemma even non-factorizable EPR joint probabilities cannot be helpful to escape from the classical outcome of the game. For a particular version of the Chicken game, however, we find that the two non-factorizable sets of joint probabilities, that maximally violates the Clauser-Holt-Shimony-Horne (CHSH) sum of correlations, indeed result in new Nash equilibria.

The quantum team has a clear advantage in games in which the players of each team are separated in space and the quantum team can use unusually strong correlations of the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen type. Abstract:We present a new framework for creating a quantum version of a classical game, based on Fine's theorem. This theorem shows that for a given set of marginals, a system of Bell's inequalities constitutes both necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the corresponding joint probability distribution. Using Fine's theorem, we re-express both the player payoffs and their strategies in terms of a set of marginals, thus paving the way for the consideration of sets of marginals -- corresponding to entangled quantum states -- for which no corresponding joint probability distribution may exist. By harnessing quantum states and employing Positive Operator-Valued Measures (POVMs), we then consider particular quantum states that can potentially resolve dilemmas inherent in classical games.

Abstract:Quantum game theory aims to study interactions of people (or other agents) using quantum devices with possibly conflicting interests. Recently Zhang studied some quantitative questions in general quantum strategic games of growing sizes [19]. However, a fundamental question not addressed there is the characterization of quantum correlated equilibria (QCE). In this paper, we answer this question by giving a sufficient and necessary condition for an arbitrary state ρ being a QCE. In addition, when the condition fails to hold for some player i, we give an explicit positive-operator valued measurement (POVM) for that player to achieve a strictly positive gain of payoff. Finally, we give some upper bounds for the maximum gain by playing quantum strategies over classical ones, and the bounds are tight for some games.

Abstract:In this paper we quantize the Card Game. In the classical version of this game, one player (Alice) can always win with propability 2/3. But when the other player (Bob) is allowed to apply quantum strategy, the original unfair game turns into a fair and zero-sum game. Further more, the procedure in which Bob perform his quantum strategy does not include any ingredient of entanglement.

Abstract:We construct quantum games from a table of non-factorizable joint probabilities, coupled with a symmetry constraint, requiring symmetrical payoffs between the players. We give the general result for a Nash equilibrium and payoff relations for a game based on non-factorizable joint probabilities, which embeds the classical game. We study a quantum version of Prisoners' Dilemma, Stag Hunt, and the Chicken game constructed from a given table of non-factorizable joint probabilities to find new outcomes in these games. We show that this approach provides a general framework for both classical and quantum games without recourse to the formalism of quantum mechanics.

Abstract:We study two-player quantum games of incomplete information in which both the sides have partial information. The previous results of Du et al. [Phys. Rev. E 68 (2003) 016124] are incorporated in our more general formalism.
