Abstract:The authors show that the folded loop antenna can be meandered into a compact size. With the help of a figure-of-L coupled line, the antenna can work in two bands. The coupled line can improve matching and generate the second band. Moreover, the antenna is printed on a common FR4 PCB, which is easy and cheap to make.

Abstract:For the minimization of RFID tag antenna, we designed a printed folded dipole antenna working at 2.4 GHz. And a mirror compensation technology was introduced to improve the radiation feature of antenna with better return loss characteristic and directivity. The simulated results show that when VSWR (vertical standing wave ratio) is less than 2, the antenna bandwidth is up to 0.39 GHz absolutely and to 15.48% relatively. Considering engineering processes, the influences of dielectric constant, board thickness, folding degree and other parameters on the properties of this antenna are particularly studied. On the basis, a dual-frequency folded dipole antenna is proposed, which can work in two main frequency for RFID system, i.e. 915 MHz and 2.4 GHz. Moreover, an antenna sample made on this novel structure has been tested and the results show that the bandwidth of antenna is improved in further, along with hemisphere directional radiation characteristics.
Dual-frequency folded dipole antenna with PBG designed for modern RFID system

Abstract:A dual-frequency printed folded dipole antenna is designed with a PBG structure carved in the antenna's arms, working well at two main frequencies in wideband RFID systems. The physical size of the antenna is minimized obviously, only 42 mm times 32 mm times 2 mm, and the excellent function by two-plane antenna could be carried out on this one-plane antenna. Making an antenna sample of the novel structure with FR4 dielectric board, we tested its return loss and directional characteristics. The measured results show that the bandwidth performance and patterns are quite good similar to the simulated results, but the radiation characteristic a little worse due to some error in engineering process. Compared to other improved structures, this new PBG structure has special advantage in simplifying the antenna structure. Considering engineering processes, the influences of antenna arm width, dielectric loss and PBG structure bore's size on the performance of antenna are particularly studied.

Abstract:A 3/2 curve fractal dipole antenna was proposed for radio-frequency identification application. with mirror and photonic hand gap structure. Sonic properties of the antenna. such as return loss and bandwidth have been simulated and investigated. The results show that the absolute bandwidths of antenna are up to 0.28 GHz and 0.41 GHz at 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz, respectively accordingly the relative bandwidths up to 9.76% and 6.87%. With a prototype fabricated, we also verified the good performance of the antenna through the comparison of measured and simulated results. (C) 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A Miniaturized Quad-Band Printed Antenna

Abstract:A miniaturized quad-band printed antenna fed by microstrip line is designed. The antenna consists of a semi-circle ring, a U-shaped, a G-shaped, and a T-shaped radiation units. The T-shaped patch is embedded in the ring monopole, which makes the antenna structure compact. It can provide four separate impedance bandwidths. The simulated and measured results illustrate the 10dB impedance bandwidth of the antenna from 2.370 to 2.483GHz, 3.300 to 3.747 GHz, 5.395 to 6.08GHz, and 8.010 to 8.990GHz, covering the 2.45/5.8GHz WLAN, 3.5GHz WiMAX, and the partial X bands.

Abstract:In this paper, a compound multimode printed loop antenna based on degraded spilt-ring resonators (SRRs) for broadband wireless applications is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of an outer split ring and one inner closed ring with a big difference in size, which can be considered as degraded SRRs. By virtue of the orthogonal radiating mode of two rings, the compound multimode loop antenna can achieve multi-band resonances. Collaborating with the two coupled rings, a parasitic strip is placed close to the feed gap of the inner ring, which not only induces a new resonant frequency at upper band but also greatly improves the impedance matching in all high-frequency bands. The proposed antenna not only covers the first split ring mode at 816 MHz but also exhibits a broadband property covering from 2.3 to 4.6 GHz (reflection coefficient |S11| <; -10 dB, 67% fractional bandwidth). The antenna operational principle and physical mechanism are analyzed by carrying out the studies of mode analysis and surface current distribution. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed antenna, an antenna prototype is fabricated and tested. It is numerically and experimentally proved that broadband and multimode characteristics, stable radiation patterns with a peak gain of 1.2 and 5.1 dBi in the lowand high-frequency bands respectively, and more than 80% efficiency can be achieved. With merits of a compact size of 0.12λ0 x 0.11λ0 (λ0 is the wavelength at the lowest operating frequency), uniplanar and simple printed structure and wide bandwidth characteristics make it suitable for a wide range of wireless applications.

Abstract:In this paper, we have presented two designs of dual-polarized antennas with omnidirectional radiation patterns in the azimuthal plane. For the first design, the vertical polarization is provided by a monopole with a co-planar waveguide feed; and the horizontal polarization is provided by a slot-coupled folded dipole structure. In order to reduce the antenna dimensions, the second design uses another method to achieve horizontal polarization with omnidirectional pattern. A slot-coupled cavity is utilized and integrated with the monopole, which is also used for vertical polarization. For both designs, the simulated bandwidths cover the desired band of 2.4-2.48 GHz with S11(S22)<;-10 dB and S21<;-20 dB. The gain variation is smaller than 3 dB for both polarizations. What's more, for the second design, the antenna has a compact volume of 52×29×9 mm 3 (0.42λ 0 ×0.24λ 0 ×0.07λ 0 , λ 0 is the free-space wavelength at 2.44 GHz).

Abstract:Design, prototyping, and testing of a dual-polarization loop antenna is presented for possible use in wireless local area network (WLAN) applications. The antenna design consists of a rectangular loop, a coplanar waveguide (CPW), and a microstrip line. The loop antenna operates in two orthogonal one-wavelength modes, which are excited by one CPW feed structure. The overall dimension of the prototype is only 40 × 53 mm2, including the feed structure. The measured -10-dB reflection coefficients bandwidth of the two modes are 770 MHz (32.1%) and 730 MHz (30.4%) at the operating frequency of 2.4 GHz. In the WLAN band, the ports isolation is better than -21.3 dB. Gains of the two modes are better than 2.9 and 4.1 dBi. Radiation patterns are measured and compared to simulation results. The proposed antenna has the advantages of compact dimension, wide bandwidth, good ports isolation, and low cross polarization.

Abstract:A folded loop-inverted F reconfigurable antenna for mobile phone applications is designed and the obtained results are discussed in this communication. It is shown that loop antenna mode and an inverted F antenna (IFA) mode are controlled by only one p-i-n diodes with simple bias circuit. The impedance can be matched by adopting a matching bridge for both the loop and IFA modes. In a compact volume of 60 × 5 × 5 mm3, the proposed antenna operates in hepta-band, including GSM850, GSM900, GPS, DCS, PCS, UMTS and WLAN, with the return loss lower than 6 dB. A prototype of the proposed antenna is fabricated, measured, and obtained results including return loss, efficiency and gain, are presented.

Abstract:A dual-band dual-polarized omnidirectional antenna is investigated. The two bands are generated by a lower circular patch and an upper circular patch, respectively. A set of conductive vias and a coupled ring are utilized to widen the antenna bandwidth. Curved branches are introduced to contribute to circularly polarized radiation. A prototype was designed, fabricated and measured to demonstrate the performance of the antenna. Measured results show that an overlapped bandwidth of 15% from 2.22 to 2.58 GHz for both S 11 ≤ −10 dB and axial ratio ≤3 dB is obtained in the low band, and an impedance bandwidth of 11.1% from 5.63 to 6.29 GHz is achieved in the high band. Measured peak gains are approximately 4.3 dBic and 5.4 dBi at two bands. Moreover, omnidirectional radiation patterns are also obtained within the operating band.

Abstract:This letter presents a novel design of compact dual-port dual-mode metamaterial-based loop antenna for pattern diversity. The proposed metamaterial-based loop antenna consists of a loop based on periodically loaded capacitive arc strips and two independent ports with feeding networks. Similar to mu-zero resonance (MZR) antennas, the periodically loaded capacitive loop antenna proposed in this letter allows current along the loop to remain in phase and uniform. By making use of a hybrid feed network, the even and odd modes of the proposed metamaterial-based loop antenna are exploited so that its pattern diversity is achieved effectively. The theory of operation and performances of the proposed antenna are demonstrated in both a full-wave simulation and in the experiments.

Abstract:A compact multiband antenna is proposed for mobile handheld devices. The antenna is composed of three-folded monopoles and they are fed by only a single excitation. The simulated and measured results show that the proposed antenna has achieved the exceptionally wide bandwidths from 1.69 to 2.50 GHz and 3 to 6 GHz in addition to GSM 850/900 applications, whereas the antenna still keeps small size and high efficiency. A novel compact dual-band printed monopole antenna

Abstract:The design of an antenna, consisting of two strip monopoles printed on the same side of an electronically thin dielectric substrate and using 50 Q microstrip feed line, is presented. The proposed antenna can provide two separate impedance bandwidth of 450MHz (about 17.5% centered at 2.575GHz) and 1GHz (about 18.5% centered at 5.4GHz) with return loss S11 below -10dB. It easily covers the required bandwidths for wireless local area network (WLAN). The dual-band antenna is simple in design, and the lengths of the antenna's larger and smaller strips can easily control the lower and higher resonant frequencies, respectively. The widths of the radiation elements are changed to get better impedance matching. Details of the proposed antenna design and results are presented and discussed. © 2007 IEEE.

Abstract:In this letter, an internal folded reconfigurable loop antenna for mobile handset applications is designed, built, and tested. Two operating states with different frequencies are obtained by switching the shorting pins of the loop. The bandwidth of the proposed antenna has been increased by adopting a matching bridge. In a compact volume of 60×5×5 mm3, the proposed antenna operates in heptaband, including GSM850, GSM900, GPS, DCS, PCS, UMTS, and WLAN, with the return loss lower than 6 dB. The efficiency and gain with the p-i-n diodes with their bias circuit are also measured and analyzed.

Abstract:A dual-mode loop antenna with polarization diversity is proposed for wireless local area networks (WLAN) application in this paper. Two orthogonal one-wavelength modes of loop are excited by two modes of one feed, making the overall dimension compact. Dual-polarization can be well matched with the -10dB impedance bandwidth of 1.94-2.79 GHz and 1.96-2.72 GHz, covering the WLAN bandwidth. The ports isolation is better than 20.3 dB. The gains of two modes are 3.0 dBi and 4.2 dBi. Key parameters are also studied to validate the antenna design.

Abstract:Abstract A compact dual‐band omnidirectional antenna with folded microstrip lines and slotlines is proposed. The antenna is composed of a substrate and a superstrate. The superstrate is employed to broaden the antenna bandwidth. The radiating patch is situated on the upper surface of the substrate and consists of folded microstrip lines. The performance of the high‐frequency band can be optimized based on the analysis of the current distribution intensity. The bottom of the substrate is composed of a ground plane with slotlines. The introduction and improvement of the low‐frequency band are achieved by modifying the ground plane structure with characteristic modal analysis. The antenna demonstrates omnidirectional radiation characteristics across both frequency bands. The dimensions of the antenna are π × 0.178 λ 0 × 0.178 λ 0 × 0.049 λ 0 ( π × 22 × 22 × 6 mm). The antenna achieves a maximum gain of 3.37 dBi at 2.5 GHz and 2.74 dBi at 5.8 GHz. The measured impedance bandwidths for the two frequency bands are 17.3% and 21.7%, respectively.

Compact 3-D Cubic Loop Antennas with Omnidirectional Patterns

Abstract:Using simple geometrical structures, a group of novel three-dimensional (3-D) cubic loop antennas for operation at around 915 MHz ISM Band are proposed to achieve the omnidirectional patterns at compact electrical size (about 36% smaller than square loop antenna), due to the fact that cubic loop or cubic meander antennas have smaller sizes than the planar ones. The antennas are feasible as receiving antennas for applications in wireless sensing base stations, RFID, multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) communications, and electromagnetic energy harvesting for mostly orientation-independence. The prototypes are fabricated and measured.
A wideband printed antenna with unidirectinal radiation characteristics

Abstract:Aiming to achieve wideband and unidirectional radiation, a planar printed antenna with two closely spaced strips is proposed and fabricated. This antenna consists of a printed rectangular loop and two metallic strips. The rectangular loop has a good direction but has a drawback of narrow band. According to the closely spaced loading theory, the impedance at the upper frequency will decrease when the two metallic strips is placed at the maximum radiation direction of the rectangular loop. This improves the impedance matching. Thus the impedance bandwidth is greatly expanded. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the double strips, a prototype of the antenna is fabricated and tested. Experimental results show good performance of the proposed antenna. It has a 62.7% measured bandwidth, ranging from 2.29 to 4.38 GHz. The measured F/B (front-to-back) ratio is larger than 8 dB in the whole frequency band.
A Strongly Miniaturized and Inherently Matched Folded Dipole Antenna for Narrowband Applications

Abstract:A novel miniaturized printed folded dipole antenna has been designed for narrowband sensing applications. It is shown that the antenna may be systematically engineered to achieve matching to a practical source impedance at frequencies well below its half-wavelength resonance using series-LC loading and asymmetrical arm widths. This approach is used to design an inherently well-matched antenna that does not require an external matching network and demonstrates approximately 75% miniaturization, excellent co- to cross-polarization separation, over 24 dB higher realized gain, and strongly improved radiation efficiency relative to an unloaded folded dipole of the same electrically small size. Experimental validation of a fabricated prototype demonstrates excellent agreement with simulations.

Abstract:This letter presents a novel frequency-reconfigurable folded slot antenna that could operate in two modes. Both modes have two resonant frequencies. The first mode resonant frequencies are at 3.4 and 5.27 GHz, and it can be used in WLAN band (5.15-5.35 GHz) and WiMAX band (3.40-3.69 GHz). The second mode operating frequencies are at 2.42 and 5.79 GHz, and they can be used in WLAN band (5.725-5.875 GHz) and Bluetooth band (2.40-2.484 GHz). The simulated results both for the return loss and peak gain agree with the measurements. Both the slot and arms of the proposed folded slot antenna are used to result in a resonant frequency, respectively. The advantage of this design is that the antenna is easy to fabricate, and this antenna could work without a complex bias network and a dc blocking capacitor.
