Abstract:(R,R)-N,N'-dimethyl-N,N'-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)cyclohexane-1,2-diamine (R,R-mcp) and the corresponding R,R-mcp-MnIIOTf2 complex were synthesized. Chrial manganese complex was used for the asymmetric epoxidation of α,β-unsaturated ketones. The amount of catalyst and oxidant were examined and then the scope of substrates was tested in the conditions of substrates∶H2O2 ∶CH3COOH=1∶6∶5 and the ee values were obtained in the range of 56-70%.

Abstract:A new chiral manganese complex (C1) bearing a tetradentate nitrogen ligand containing chiral bipyrrolidine and benzimidazole moieties was prepared. The structure of C1 was confirmed by ESI-MS and crystallography. This manganese complex is an active catalyst for the asymmetric epoxidation of various olefins with excellent conversion (up to 99%) and high enantiomeric excess (up to 96% ee) with hydrogen peroxide as the oxidant in the presence of 2-ethylhexanoic acid or acetic acid. Compared with previous structurally similar manganese complexes with different diamine backbones (C2, cyclohexanediamine; C3, diamine from L-proline), C1 showed improved asymmetric induction, especially for simple olefins such as styrene derivatives and substituted chromene. The possible reasons for the improvement of the ee values are discussed in the text on the basis of the crystal structures of the manganese complexes.

Abstract:A series of chiral tridentate ligands derived from readily available enantiopure l-proline were designed and synthesized. The ligands together with Cu(OAc)2 were successfully used in asymmetric Henry reactions. Various structurally divergent aldehydes and nitromethane were converted into versatile β-nitro alcohols in MeOH at room temperature with very good yields (up to 85%) and enantioselectivities (up to 86%).

Abstract:A highly enantioselective method toward oxidative kinetic resolution of 2-arylcycloalkanols has been established, wherein easily available chiral Mn(III)-salen complex ( 0.5 mol% ) serves as an efficient catalyst and NBS as oxidant. Abstract:A series of chiral 1,1'-binaphthyl-2,2'-disulfonic acids was designed, synthesized, and applied in a highly enantioselective Ti-catalyzed intramolecular hydroalkoxylation of nonactivated alkenes. The catalyst is probably a complex between two chiral binaphthyldisulfonate ligands and a bis(mu-oxo)-dititanium(IV) core structure. The sulfonamide groups of the ligands and water are necessary for the catalysis, as they may stabilize the catalytically active complex through hydrogen bonding. Various 2-methylcoumarans were obtained in up to greater than 99% yields and up to 97% enantiomeric excess under mild conditions.

Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed C-H functionalization/intramolecular asymmetric allylation cascade of N-sulfonyl benzamides with 1,3-dienes has been developed. In the presence of a chiral pyridine-oxazoline ligand, this protocol enables the synthesis of chiral 3,4-dihydroisoquinolones in yields of up to 83% with enantioselectivities of up to 96%, using environmentally friendly air as the terminal oxidant.

Abstract:A mononuclear complex 1, of Mn(III) with a Schiff-base ligand L [L = N,N′-ethylenebis(3-formyl-5-methylsalicylaldimine)] has been synthesized and structurally characterized. A series of binuclear complexes, MnML′Clxsolvy [M = Zn(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Fe(III), and Mn(III); x = 3 or 4 depending on the oxidation state of M; L′ is the aniline condensation product of L; y = 1, 2 or 3 and solv = H2O or CH3OH] have been prepared by the reaction of 1, aniline and M(II/III) chloride with a 1∶3∶1.2 molar ratio in methanolic media. These bimetallic complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, UV-Vis and IR spectroscopies, magnetic susceptibilities and thermogravimetric analyses. The results of magnetic susceptibility measurements at 300 K indicate that all the metal ions are in their high spin states. The catalytic properties of these complexes for epoxidation of alkenes have been investigated using PhIO as a terminal oxidant. The binuclear Mn(III) complexes are less efficient epoxidation catalysts than the mononuclear Mn(III) complex, 1. The reduced activities of the bimetallic complexes may be due to both the low rates of formation of a Mn(V)O intermediate and the transfer of oxygen from this intermediate to the alkene. Furthermore, the bimetallic complexes also transformed into a catalytically inactive species in the presence of PhIO as indicated by UV-Vis spectroscopic studies.

Abstract:Four (R, R)-3, 4-diaminopyrrolidine-based chiral Salen ligands with L-Boc-N-proline, D-Boc-N-proline, L-proline, D-proline as respective sidearms, as well as their manganese complexes were synthesized and characterized. These Salen-Mn(III) complexes were applied to the asymmetric epoxidations of unfunctionalized olefins with NaClO, and m-CPBA as respective oxidants. The catalysis of the Salen-Mn (III) complexes varied with the change of sidearms. The one with D-Boc-N-proline as a sidearm showed the best asymmetric catalysis among the four chiral manganese complexes, and its catalysis was also better than that of the one with a benzyl sidearm, and comparable with that of Jacobsen's catalyst. Moderate to excellent enantioselectivities and yields were achieved in the asymmetric of various olefins over this complex. The big enhancement of the D-Boc-N-proline sidearm on the enantioselectivity of the asymmetric epoxidation might be ascribed to its large steric hindrance and appropriate configuration, allowing the Boc moiety to be away from the side-on approach pathway of olefins to the active center but near the opposite side one in some degree, thus facilitating the approach of olefins to the active center from one direction.

Abstract:Mn(I)-catalyzed enantioselective C-C bond-forming reactions represent a great challenge in homogeneous catalysis primarily due to a limited understanding of its mechanistic principles. Herein, we have developed an interesting catalytic strategy that leverages a synergistic combination of a dimeric manganese(I) catalyst and a chiral aminocatalyst to address this issue. A range of conjugated dienals and trienals can exclusively proceed 1,4-hydroalkenylation by using readily available aromatic and aliphatic alkenyl boronic acids as coupling partners, producing a rich library of skipped diene aldehydes in synthetically useful yields and high levels of enantioselectivities. Notably, downstream transformations of these products can not only afford a concise approach to construct enantioenriched skipped trienes but also realize enantioselective total synthesis of analogues to (-)-Blepharocalyxin D in four steps. DFT calculations suggest the 1,4-hydroalkenylation is kinetically more favorable than 1,6-hydroalkenylation.

Abstract:The synthesis of axially chiral carbonyl compounds has attracted considerable interest in organic synthesis due to their prevalence in natural products and pharmaceuticals, as well as their utility in material science and catalysis. Transition‐metal‐catalyzed approaches have become powerful tools for their construction, offering high efficiency, selectivity, and versatility among the various methods developed. This concept aims to provide a comprehensive overview of recent advances in the transition‐metal‐catalyzed asymmetric synthesis of axially chiral carbonyl compounds, integrating scattered work with different catalytic systems. This feature concept is divided into four types of reactions based on the strategies employed: cross‐coupling reactions, cycloaddition reactions, desymmetrization reactions, and other C‒H activation reactions.

Abstract:A series of chiral lanthanide complexes were synthesized in good yields by the reactions of lanthanide triflates (Ln=Yb, Sm) and tartaramide. Those complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, H-1 NMR and MS. The catalytic asymmetric Friedel-Crafts reaction between 2,6-dimethylphenol and ethyl glyoxalate was examined using those complexes as chiral catalysts. Complex 1 gave the best enantioselectivity with the ee value up to 90%.

Abstract:A novel type of highly efficient chiral C2-symmetric bipyridine-N,N'-dioxides ligands prepared from L-octahydroindole-2-carboxylic acid and successfully applied in the synthesis of optically pure 1,2,3-trisubstituted cyclopropanes employing sulfoxonium ylides with α,β-unsaturated 2-acyl imidazoles has been developed, affording the corresponding adducts in 88-98% yields with up to 99% enantioselectivity and >20:1 dr under mild conditions with broad scope. In addition, a scale-up experiment and the synthetic transformations of the cycloadducts further highlighted the synthetic utility.
