Abstract:Two new compounds, dendronobilate (1) and 4-O-demethyl-nobilone (2), together with one known fluorenone were isolated from the aerial parts of Dendrobium nobile Lindl. Their structures were characterized by detailed analysis of 1D and 2D NMR spectra, HRESIMS and ECD spectra. Compounds 1–3 showed significant α-glucosidase inhibitory activity with IC50 values of 27.46 ± 3.14, 4.52 ± 0.33, and 10.78 ± 2.05 μM, respectively, which were superior to the acarbose (745.9 ± 3.3 μM). The binding interactions of 1 and 2 with α-glucosidase were investigated using molecular docking simulations. In addition, compound 2 exhibited potent inhibitory effect on NO production in LPS activated RAW264.7 cells with the IC50 value of 35.40 ± 1.77 μM without cytotoxicity observed.

Abstract:A new phenanthraquinone, 7,9-dihydroxy-2-methoxy-1,4-phenanthraquinone ( 1 ), and nine known compounds were isolated and identified from the whole plants of Dendrobium lindleyi . The structure of the new compound was determined on the basis of NMR (1D and 2D) and mass spectroscopic analysis. The new compound exhibited potent antimicrobial activity against Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli , and its activity was comparable with that of the well-known antibacterial drug berberine.

Abstract:AIM:To study the chemical constituents of the stem of Fordia cauliflora of Yunnan province.METHODS:The constituents were separated and purified by repeated silica column chromatography. The structures were elucidated by physical-chemical properties and spectroscopic data.RESULTS:Six compounds were isolated from the ethanol extract of the stem of Fordia cauliflora. They were identified as: 6-hydroxy-3-methoxy-6",6"-dimethylchromeno-(2", 3" : 7, 8)-flavone (1), 3-methoxy-6-(3-methyl-but-2-enyloxy)-6", 6"-dimethylchromeno-( 2", 3" : 7, 8)-flavone (2), 3, 6-dimethoxy-6", 6"-dimethylchromeno-( 2", 3" : 7, 8)-flavone (3), 7-hydroxy-4'-methoxyisoflavone (4), 7, 4'-dihydroxyisoflavone (5) and karanjin (6).CONCLUSION:Compounds 1 and 2 are new compounds. Compounds 3 -5 were isolated from the plant for the first time.

Abstract:Objective: To study the chemical constituents of Usnea longissima. Method: The compounds were isolated and purified by the methods of solvent extraction and chromatographic technique, and their structures were identified on the basis of the analyses of spectral data. Result: Two compounds were obtained and identified as 3, 6-diacetyl-2, 7, 9-trihydroxy-8, 9b-dimethyl-1[9bH] -dibenzofuranone (1) and 1, 3, 8-trihydroxy-4, 6-dimethyl-9, 10-anthracenedione (2), respectively. Conclusion: Compounds 1 and 2 were new compounds and were named as longiusnine and longissimausnone, respectively.

Abstract:A new guaiane-type sesquiterpene glycoside, torilolone 8-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), together with a known analogue compound, torilolone 11-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (2), was isolated from the fruits of Daucus carota L. Their chemical structures were elucidated on the basis of MS, NMR spectroscopic analyses coupled with chemical degradation. Abstract:Three new dihydrodibenzoxepins 7,8-dihydro-5-hydroxy-12,13-methylenedioxy-11-methoxyldibenz[b,f]oxepin (1), 7,8-dihydro4-hydroxy-12,13-methylenedioxy-11-methoxyldibenz[b,f]oxepin (2), and 7,8-dihydro-3-hydroxy-12,13-methylenedioxy-11-methoxyldibenz[b,f]oxepin (3), were isolated from Bulbophyllum kwangtungense Schlecht, along with three known compounds, cumulatin (4), densiflorol A (5) and plicatol B (6). Their structures were established by a combination of 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic techniques. All new compounds (1-3) and the known compound densiflorol A (5) exhibited anti-tumor activities against HeLa and K562 human tumor cell lines.

Abstract:5-[2'-(3"-Hydroxy-5"-methoxyphenyl)-ethyl]-1,3-benzodioxole and 7-hydroxy-2-methoxy-1,4-phenanthrenedione, along with 16 known compounds were identified from the stems of Dendrobium densifiorum Lindl. ex Wall. (Orchidaceae). The structure of a previously reported compound dendroflorin obtained from the plant was revised on the basis of spectroscopic analysis. Among the identified compounds, five were found to exhibit anti-platelet aggregation activity in vitro.

Abstract:One new ylangene-type sesquiterpene glycoside, findlayanoside C ( 1 ), and one new picrotoxane-type sesquiterpene glycoside, findlayanoside D ( 3 ), together with five known sesquiterpene glycosides, dendrofindlayanoside C ( 2 ), dendronobiloside B ( 4 ), dendronobiloside A ( 5 ), dendroside F ( 6 ) and dendromoniliside D ( 7 ), have been isolated from the stems of Dendrobium findleyanum . The structures of compounds 1 and 3 were elucidated by means of extensive spectroscopic analyses, and their absolute configuration were confirmed by electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. Cytotoxic activity assays against SMMC-7721, A-549 and MCF-7 human cancer cell lines revealed IC 50 values of 10.12, 12.32 and 14.13 μ M for compound 1 , and of 9.25, 13.16 and 16.26 μ M for compound 2 . This study enriches the anti-tumour sesquiterpenoids composition of D. findleyanum .

Abstract:Three previously undescribed biflavonoids, oxytrodiflavanone A (1), and oxytrochalcoflavanones A,B (2,3), were isolated from the aerial part of Oxytropis chiliophylla, together with their putative biosynthetic monomers, i.e., (2S)-5,7-dihydroxyflavanone (4), (2S)-7-hydroxyflavanone (5), and 2',4'-dihydroxychalcone (6). The structures of these compounds were elucidated by a combination analysis of spectroscopic data. The cytotoxic activities of all the isolated compounds against PC-3 human prostate cancer cell line are also presented.

Abstract:Two new lignans, named zuihonins E (1) and F (2), were isolated from the stems of Schisandra bicolor Cheng var. tuberculata Law. The structures of the new lignans were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, including 1D, 2D NMR, and MS experiments, and their absolute stereochemistry was determined by circular dichroism spectrum. Compounds 1 and 2 did not inhibit the growth of hepatoma carcinoma cell (HepG2), lung carcinoma cell (A549), and human breast carcinoma (MCF-7) cell lines.

Abstract:A novel bibenzyl, a new bibenzyl, two new phenanthrenes, and a new lignin glycoside, namely longicornuol A (1), 4-[2-(3-hdroxyphenol)-1-methoxyethyl]-2,6-dimethoxyphenol (2), 5-hydroxy-7-methoxy-9,10-dihydrophenanthrene-1,4-dione (3), 7-methoxy-9,10-dihydrophenanthrene-2,4,5-triol (4) and erythro-1-(4-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-3-methoxyphenyl)-2-[4-(3-hydroxypropyl)-2,6-dimethoxyphenoxy]-1,3-propanediol ( 5), together with 14 known compounds, were isolated from the stems of Dendrobium longicornu. All structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods (NMR, MS, UV and IR). Anti-platelet aggregation activities of compounds 1 - 5 were also tested.

Abstract:BackgroundDendrobium is a genus of plants used as traditional Chinese herbal medicines, with high economic and medicinal value.Methods and resultsTo reveal the mechanism of flavonoid biosynthesis in Dendrobium, the metabolites and transcriptomes of four Dendrobium species (D. chrysotoxum, D. nobile, D. fimbriatum, and D. denneanum) were analyzed comprehensively. Ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry analysis revealed ten flavonoid compounds in Dendrobium. In total, 100,096 unigenes were obtained from the transcript database of the four Dendrobium species. Among the identified differentially expressed genes, 51 were associated with flavonoid biosynthesis, and 670 differentially expressed transcription factors were predicted, including 194 MYB, 87 bHLH, and 100 WRKY family transcription factors, respectively. Transcriptome analysis showed that the expression levels of structural genes such as chalcone synthase (CHS), cinnamate-4-hydroxylase (C4H), and flavonoid 3′-hydroxylase (F3′H) were lower in D. chrysotoxum, D. nobile, and D. fimbriatum than those in D. denneanum, which may be the main reason for the low flavonoid contents in D. chrysotoxum, D. nobile, and D. fimbriatum.ConclusionsThe expression level of structural genes corresponded to the accumulation level of flavonols in the different Dendrobium species. The results deepen the understanding of the molecular mechanism of flavonoid biosynthesis in Dendrobium and provide novel insights into the synthesis and accumulation of flavonoids in Dendrobium.
