Abstract:On this paper, a colliding-enhanced cavity was reported. It has low fluctuation of output energy and peak power compared with line phase-conjugate resonator. The results of output energy and peak power fluctuation under different conditions were given. The output energy and peak power fluctuation were 10 percent and 5 percent respectively as the pump voltage range from 850 to 1000. The output energy and peak power fluctuation are superior to linear phase resonator at the same condition. The theory model was given, and the simulation results used by MAPLE were accorded with the experimental results.

It has higher output energy and narrower pulse widths. The output energy of the cavity will reach 150 mJ, the pulse width of it will reach 11 ns, the divergence angle is about 1.1 mrad. The quality of reformative cavity is improved. The results of pulse widths and output energies are given.

Abstract:A improved colliding-enhanced resonator cavity was proposed.The output energy of the improved cavity will reach 150 mJ,the pulse width will reach 11 ns,and the divergence angle is about 1.1 mrad.Comparing to original cavity,the output energy increase about 40 percent,the width of output pulse decrease about 10 ns,the divergence angle decrease 0.1 mrad under the same conditions.

Abstract:Microcavity structures are widely utilized as resonators in many optoelectronic devices to improve their optical performance. We present an analytic approach to study the angle-dependent properties in active microcavities with dielectric Bragg reflectors. Based on the hard mirror (HM) model and paraxial propagation approximation, the angle dependent resonance properties can be expressed analytically in virtue of the cavity parameters and incident angle. Making use of these expressions, we found both the position of the active layer and the configuration of dielectric Bragg mirrors contribute to the angular characteristics of resonance in the active microcavity. The varying trend of the standing wave effect, intracavity electrical field and the degradation of quantum efficiency due to different incident angle are discussed in detail. It's found that there exists an optimal cavity configuration where the enhanced intracavity resonance can keep high value within a broader incidence range. Then further performance optimization of the whole devices can be performed.

Abstract:A novel colliding-enhanced cavity is reported. It has low threshold and energy output of 100 mJ. Self Q-switched pulse duration is 20 ns, with 1.3 mrad of the angle of divergence. In some extent, the higher the pump voltage is, the narrower the output pulse widths; The longer the length of phase conjugate resonator, the wider the pulse widths; The shorter the focal length of the lens, the narrower the pulse widths; the longer the cell and focal length, the higher the output energy and the smaller the angle of divergence. The results of pulse widths and output energies and the angle of divergence in different conditions are given.

Abstract:How to improve the quality of output beam of phase-conjugation cavity is a problem. And there are a few reports on how to improve the quality of output beam mode [1]. On this paper, the output characteristic of compound phase-conjugate resonator was reported. The experiment results indicated that it has high output energy and excellent mode. The output energy is 7.4mJ, and the width of it is about 15ns. The results of pulse widths and output energies and beam profiles were given and it indicates that using the compound cavity is a useful and easy method to improve the quality of beam mode.

Abstract:The influence of the primary resonator's stability on the Q-switch is experimentally studied. The results have shown that unstable primary resonator with high diffraction losses can improve the Q-switch effect of phase conjugation cavity laser. The characteristics of output pulses from two types of phase conjugation cavity lasers with H 2O and CS 2SBS medium, were compared and analyzed.

Abstract:A novel colliding-enhanced Cr:LiSAF broad-band phase-conjugate resonator (PCR) has been investigated theoretically and experimentally. This kind of PCR is a low initiating threshold resonator. It can produce self-Q-switching narrow pulse with about 35 ns duration (FWHM), efficiently correct intracavity phase aberrations, and severalfold improve output laser beam quality.

Abstract:We investigate both experimentally and numerically a complex structure, where 'face-to-face' Helmholtz resonance cavities (HRCs) are introduced to construct a one-dimensional acoustic grating. In this system, pairs of HRCs can intensely couple with each other in two forms: a bonding state and an anti-bonding state, analogous to the character of hydrogen molecule with two atoms due to the interference of wave functions of sound among the acoustic local-resonating structures. The bonding state is a 'bright' state that interferes with the Fabry-Perot resonance mode, thereby causing this state to break up into two modes as the splitting of the extraordinary acoustic transmission peak. On the contrary, the anti-bonding state is a 'dark' state in which the resonance mode remains entirely localized within the HRCs, and has no contribution to the acoustic transmission.

Abstract:We extend the coupled-wave-theory (CWT) framework to a supercell lattice photonic crystal (PC) structure to model the radiation of high-Q resonances under structural fluctuations since they are inevitable in realistic devices. The comparison of CWT results and the finite-element-method (FEM) simulations confirm the validity of CWT. It is proved that the supercell model approaches a realistic finite-size PC device when the supercell size is large enough. The Q factors within fluctuated structures are constraint owing to the appearance of fractional orders of radiative waves, which are induced by structural fluctuations. For a large enough footprint size, the upper bound of the Q factor is determined by the fabrication precision, and further increasing the device size will no longer benefit the Q factor.

Abstract:We have employed phase-diffusion model to study the effects of laser field correlation on the Raman-enhanced nondegenerate four-wave mixing (RENFWM). The different roles of the field fluctuations have been pointed out. A time-delayed method has been proposed to suppress the thermal background. An enhancement of the ratio between the resonant and nonresonant RENFWM signal intensities was found as the time delay is increased when the laser has broadband linewidth. When the lasers have Gaussian line shape, we also present a second-order coherence function theory to elucidate the temporal asymmetry behavior of the RENFWM.

Abstract:The steady-state nonlinear behavior in a ring cavity based on a Λ-type atomic model is investigated. It is shown that, due to the existence of strong spontaneously generated coherence, optical bistability still can be realized even if both coherent fields in resonance with the medium. Moreover, the appearance or disappearance of bistability can be controlled by adjusting the relative phase between the two coherent fields. When the probe field is not resonant, it is found that the threshold intensity for producing bistability is very sensitive to the relative phase, and bistability and multistablity can transform mutually by adjusting the relative phases.

Abstract:In this paper, we have investigated the time evolution of the phase operator of the radiation field in the Jaynes-Cummings model with and without the rotating-wave approximation, making use of the phase formalism of Barnett and Pegg [J. Mod. Opt. 36, 7 (1989); Phys. Rev. A 39, 1665 (1989)]. We verify by an analytical method that the atomic Rabi oscillation leads to phase dissipation of the radiation field, and also that the effect of the virtual-photon field can exhibit quantum fluctuations in the atom-field-coupling system and lead to a frequency shift of the radiation field.
Cavity-mediated Oscillating and Trapping Dynamics in a Two-Component Condensate

Abstract:Cold atoms in cavity provides a new platform for exploring exotic many-body phases. Here we explore the dynamics of a two-component condensate coupled to a finesse cavity, in which the Raman coupling is mediated by pumping laser and cavity mode. In this model, the energy scale of cavity mode is several order of magnitude bigger than that in the condensate, thus the small fluctuations in the cavity field may have important consequence in the dynamics of condensate. Beyond the steady-state approximaton, we show the cavity can play two different roles to this dynamics. In the first case, it imprints a gauge potential to the dynamics of condensate, giving rise to zero and $\pi$ Josephson dynamics. Nevertheless, in the other case, it plays the role of non-reciprocial transportation between the two hyperfine states, in which the stability of the fixed points are tuned from elliptic to stable spiral for one of the trapped phase and unstable spiral for the other trapped phase, thus the oscillating dynamics will finally ceased. The transition between these dynamics can be controlled by the parameters of the cavity field and the driving field. Our results demonstrate an novel way to engineer the dynamics of condensate by tuning the stability of the fixed points.
Quantum Phase Transition and Geometric Phase in a Coupled Cavity-Bec System

Abstract:We investigate the quantum phase transition and geometric phase of a model that describes a two-level atomic Bose-Einstein condensate coupled to a high-finesse optical cavity with considering the interactions between the coherent atoms. Using the Holstein-Primakoff transformation and the boson expansion approach, we identify a threshold coupling line separating the normal phase and the superradiant phase. We find that this phase transition is characterized by the nonanalyticity of the second-order derivative of the ground-state energy and the divergency of the first-order derivative of the geometric phase. In particular, we show that the atom-atom interactions can strongly affect the phase transition point and slightly modify the scaling behavior of the geometric phase in the vicinity of the critical point. The repulsive interaction can reduce the threshold and thus is favorable for observing the phase transition.

High Power Laser and Particle Beams

Abstract:The thermal distortions of a high average power solid-state laser could be compensated by cube corner arrays (CCA) due to the quasi phase conjugation. But the applications of a CCA have been limited when it is used as a resonator,because of the numerous cavity modes caused by its retro-reflection characteristics and the high loss caused by the edge diffraction of the CCA. The output properties of a cube corner array resonator are analyzed and a new method to obtain single mode has been proposed by using an intracavity filter to suppress the high order cavity modes. The theoretical and experimental results show that the output beam quality could be improved to nearly 5 times the diffraction limit by cube corner arrays with intracavity filter.

Abstract:Cavity electromagnonic system, which simultaneously consists of cavities for photons, magnons (quanta of spin waves), and acoustic phonons, provides an exciting platform to achieve coherent energy transduction among different physical systems down to single quantum level. Here we report a dynamical phase-field model that allows simulating the coupled dynamics of the electromagnetic waves, magnetization, and strain in 3D multiphase systems. As examples of application, we computationally demonstrate the excitation of hybrid magnon-photon modes (magnon polaritons), Floquet-induced magnonic Aulter-Townes splitting, dynamical energy exchange (Rabi oscillation) and relative phase control (Ramsey interference) between the two magnon polariton modes. The simulation results are consistent with analytical calculations based on Floquet Hamiltonian theory. Simulations are also performed to design a cavity electro-magno-mechanical system that enables the triple phonon-magnon-photon resonance, where the resonant excitation of a chiral, fundamental (n=1) transverse acoustic phonon mode by magnon polaritons is demonstrated. With the capability to predict coupling strength, dissipation rates, and temporal evolution of photon/magnon/phonon mode profiles using fundamental materials parameters as the inputs, the present dynamical phase-field model represents a valuable computational tool to guide the fabrication of the cavity electromagnonic system and the design of operating conditions for applications in quantum sensing, transduction, and communication.

Abstract:The underlying physics and detailed dynamical process of the free space beam excitation to the asymmetric resonant microcavity are studied numerically. Taking the well-studied quadrupole deformed microcavity as an example, we use a Gaussian beam to excite the high-Q mode. The simulation provides a powerful platform to study the underlying physics. The transmission spectrum and intracavity energy can be obtained directly. Unique transmission spectrums were observed, which show the asymmetric Fano-type lineshapes as a result of the interference between the different light paths. Then excitation efficiencies varying with the aiming distance of the incident Gaussian beam and the rotation angle of the cavity were studied, which is greatly consistent with the reversal of emission efficiencies. By projecting the position-dependent excitation efficiency to the phase space, the correspondence between the excitation and emission was demonstrated. In addition, we compared the Husimi distributions of the excitation processes and provided more direct evidences of the dynamical tunneling process in the excitation process.
