Relationship between serum leptin and lipids in patients with cholesterol gallstone

Abstract:Aim To investigate relationship between leptin and serum lipids in cholesterol gallstone patients by measuring serum leptin and lipids.Methods Twenty-two patients(10 males and 12 females) in the experimental group were diagnosed as gallstone by ultrasound without hyperten sion,diabetes,hepatitis and other acute and chronic diseases.The patients complicated with acute cholecystitis calculus of intrahepatic duct and obstruction of biliary tract were excluded from this study.Meantime,16 healthy persons(8 males and 8 females) without hyperlipidemia and other obvious disease changes were chosen as the control group by physical and biochemical examination.The levels of TBA,TC,TG,HDL,LDL and content of apolipoprotein in both groups were measured by routine biochemistry.In addition,the level of leptin was also measured by radioimmunoassay.Meantime, body height, mass and waistline were measured.Results HDL of cholesterol gallstone group (1.21± 0.27) mmol/L was lower than that in control group(1.5± 0.3) mmol/L (t=2.21,P< 0.05).Significantly higher level of TC were found in the gallstone group compared with the control group[(4.6± 0.7) mmol/L vs (4.0± 1.0) mmol/L,t=2.40,P< 0.05].The levels of serum high density lipoprotein and apolipoproteinAl in cholesterol gallstone group was significantly lower than that in the control group[(1.28± 0.28) g/L vs (1.53± 0.25) g/L,t=2.56,P< 0.05].The serum leptin in cholesterol gallstone group was higher than that in control group[(19± 16) μ g/L vs (9± 4) μ g/L,t=3.09,P< 0.01].Conclusion The leptin level is closely related to formation of cholesterol gallstone.
