A small rover will be of more advantage to send it to a distant planet. This paper presents a newly developed lunar rover with small size and lightweight. The rover, which consists of two motorized cylinder-conical wheels, moves by virtue of centroid offset of chassis and enables it to passively resist overturn. Moreover, the rover is capable of combinability and several of such rovers can be controlled to combine to a big multi-wheeled rover with strong locomotion capability or a stable working platform. So the rover allows sending several of such rovers to perform different lunar exploration mission at a same launcher and can perform a more difficult mission by combining each other. This paper describes mobility system of the small two-wheeled rover, presents some combining schemes of several of such rovers and gives a kinematic model of a rover. Based on an equivalent mechanical model, Locomotion performance of the rover is analyzed creeping along a slope, climbing up a steep obstacle or stride over a ditch, and anti-overturn ability of the rover is discussed. Finally some simulation results are showed.
