Abstract:The prediction method of the big ship motion posture is discussed, using the wave survey in front of the ship and the survey data of the big ship motion. The Automation Regressive Moving Average (ARMA) model of the ship motion prediction and the Automation Regressive (AR) model of the wave prediction in the front of the ship areintroduced in detail. The prediction algorisms for the wave amplitude and the ship motion posture are given. And the longitudinal sway motion of the big ship is simulated. The simulation calculation shows that the prediction precision is satisfied. Finally the ARMA method is compared with the common AR method.

Abstract:The predictions of the ship motions by using Time-Series analysis are studied by experiment. The Auto-Regressive model, the ARMA model with the history of the wave elevation ahead of bow and the Nonlinear Auto-Regressive model are simulated and the numerical simulations are examined against the laboratory measurements in irregular waves. Comparing the characteristics of each algorithm, the best mode of the predictions is discussed.

Abstract:Based on the Automation Regressive (AR) model, a real-time modeling and prediction method for the huge ship attitude motion forced by random waves was introduced. A real-time fast order selection algorithm-based on improved corner condition and the RLS algorithm-recursion model parameter identification online was given. The ship longitudinal motion was simulated in the typical voyages condition, and it was compared with AIC rule order selection algorithm. The simulation results show that AR model is suitable to modeling and prediction for the ship in the condition of non-steady motion, and the two kinds of order selection algorithm both would realize estimating AR model order on-line, and prediction time would reach 7-10s. But the order selection algorithm-based on improved corner condition are simpler, programming easer, and that the prediction time is shorten. This method has important meaning in the aspects of theories and engineering application.

Abstract:To determine the best prediction method for very-short term prediction of ship motions in a specific condition,the accuracies of the candidate methods are usually evaluated by comparing their standard deviations.However,this method may exclude the best one ‘de facto’ in some cases.In this paper,a method is proposed for the determination by matching the waveform of the predicted signal and through affine transformation.The major characteristics such the period and the wave numbers of a predicted signal are identified.Then the qualified predictions are converted via affine transformation to one with the same period and same phase angle with the actual signal.Finally the best prediction method is then determined by comparing the standard deviations.A validation case shows that the proposed method is able to more reasonably determine the best method for very-short term prediction of ship motions.

Abstract:It is significant and valuable to improve the time length and accuracy of ships' motion prediction for the efficiency, comfort and security of marine operation. Autoregressive time series analysis method (AR) is the mainstream currently and the effectiveness for the prediction of ships' motion attitudes has been fully validated. However, the algorithm fixes the order only once but forecasts the future data for multi-step, result in degradation of the step length and accuracy, especially when the ship sails in the bad sea condition. In order to solve this issue, this paper proposes a new autoregressive-multiple method (Arm), which can determine the orders and parameters of model in a real-time. The method is applied to forecast a ship's motion attitudes in eight different situations. The simulative results of autoregressive-multiple method show the validity and veracity.

Abstract:Multiple seasonal ARIMA（auto regressive integrated moving average） model based on time series was used, the extreme short-time prediction technology of unmanned surface vehicle motion was studied based on the seakeeping test data of boat model in regular wave. ARMA（auto regressive moving average） models with trend difference and seasonal difference were adopted, Akaike information criterion and white noise inspection method were carried out, and the chosen best model was validated. Extreme short-time prediction in twenty steps was made for unmanned surface vehicle. Calculation result indicates that the maximum errors are not more than 6 % in the former ten-step predictions of acceleration, heave and pitch. With the increase of prediction step, the error has enlarging trend, the maximum error reaches to 16.68~ in the following ten-step prediction of acceleration. So extreme short-time prediction technology is effective. 3 tabs, 13 figs, 15 refs.

Abstract:Experimental study on ship motion prediction using auto regressive model was carried out.The results of the experiment showed that using auto regressive model for ship motion prediction can meet the needs of the control system of compensation for the stable platform of helicopters and is a simple and feasible method as the system only needs to predict the ship's future motion for a short time.

Abstract:Reliable and accurate short-term prediction of ship motions improves the safety in ship motion related maritime operations, where the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is widely used for its advantages like the satisfactory nonlinear and non-stationary processing capability. Therefore a hybrid autoregressive AR-DWT-EMD model is proposed for the short-term prediction of non-stationary and nonlinear ship motion. The proposed hybrid model is the combination of AR-EMD model and the discrete wavelet decomposition (DWT). Compared with the traditional AR model, hybrid AR-DWT model, and hybrid AR-EMD model, the hybrid AR-DWT-EMD model is more capable to handle the nonlinear and non-stationary signals. The prediction results suggest that better predictions are obtained by the proposed AR-DWT-EMD model than other models.

Abstract:Accurate short-term prediction of ship motions allows better improvements in safety and con-trol quality in ship motion sensitive maritime operations. Inspired by the high adaptive and effective nature of auto-regressive (AR) model, it was widely studied in substantial papers concerning short-term prediction of ship motion. However, it suffers theoretical difficulty when the ship motion becomes non-stationary. In this paper, an extended AR model designated as EMD-AR for non-stationary ship motion forecast is developed by using AR-EMD technique. Where, AR-EMD technique refers to empirical mode decomposition (EMD) applying AR prediction method in boundary extension. EMD-AR model overcomes the non-stationarity in ship motion by decomposing the complex ship motion data into a couple of simple intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) and residual. Each sub-compo-nent is predicted individually, and predictions are then aggregated to attain the final results. Com-parative study with linear AR model and nonlinear support vector regression (SVR) model employing model testing ship motion data was conducted. The results show that AR-EMD is effective in han-dling the negative effect on the prediction accuracy resulting from non-stationarity in ship motion and EMD-AR model produces better prediction compared to AR and SVR models.

Abstract:The modeling method of the ship extreme short-term motion prediction by applying neural network theory is discussed. The diagonal recurrent neural network model and algorithm of ship motion prediction is given. With the algorithm, real ship motion prediction is simulated, and the simulation method and procedure are introduced in detail. The simulation results were compared with the real ship data and those from auto-regress method and periodic chart method, which proved the algorithm to be feasible。

Description and definition of ship motion short-term prediction are presented, and the cat-egorization and difficulties of short-term prediction techniques are further discussed. Short-term pre-diction models based on various theories are reviewed and the corresponding characteristics of those approaches are analyzed to pinpoint the advantages and disadvantages. Abstract:In order to solve accurate and real time forecast problem under poor information and uncertain conditions for traditional single prediction methods, an intelligent forecast model of ship motion is designed based on empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and online least squares support vector machine (OLSSVM). The different characteristics information of time series for ship motion is decomposed by EMD; the OLSSVM prediction model is built for each component; the superposition of the each component is taken as the ultimate forecasting value. The experiments of a ship's rolling time series prediction are done. The simulation results indicate that the proposed model is able to effectively improve the forecasting accuracy and efficiency, compared with the traditional offline support vector machine forecasting model.

Abstract:Accurate and reliable short-term prediction of ship motions offers improvements in both safety and control quality in ship motion sensitive maritime operations. Inspired by the satisfactory nonlinear learning capability of a support vector regression (SVR) model and the strong non-stationary processing ability of empirical mode decomposition (EMD), this paper develops a hybrid autoregressive (AR)-EMD-SVR model for the short-term forecast of nonlinear and non-stationary ship motion. The proposed hybrid model is designed by coupling the SVR model with an AR-EMD technique, which employs an AR model in ends extension. In addition to the AR-EMD-SVR model, the linear AR model, non-linear SVR model, and hybrid EMD-AR model are also studied for comparison by using ship motion time series obtained from model testing in a towing tank. Prediction results suggest that the non-stationary difficulty in the SVR model is overcome by using the AR-EMD technique, and better predictions are obtained by the proposed AR-EMD-SVR model than other models.

Abstract:Short-term prediction of ship attitude holds the potential to provide decision support for precise control and optimal timing selection of ship operations at sea, thereby ensuring the safety and efficiency of offshore activities. However, the time series data representing ship motion attitude exhibits complex nonlinear and non-stationary characteristics, which pose challenges to achieving accurate predictions. To improve prediction accuracy, this study employs two sequence decomposition techniques: Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) and Adaptive Noise Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (CEEMDAN). These decomposition methods are integrated with a Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) to forecast ship motion attitude. Firstly, the decomposition techniques are applied to decompose the time series data of ship motion attitude into multiple intrinsic mode function (IMF) components. Subsequently, each IMF component is predicted using the GRU. Ultimately, the final prediction results are obtained by aggregating the GRU’s predictions for each individual component. To alleviate the impact of manual parameter configuration in the VMD algorithm, this study introduces a metaheuristic optimization algorithm called the Binary System Optimization Algorithm (BSO), which is empirically validated for its effectiveness. Moreover, real ship data from the vessel named “Yukun” is utilized to experimentally verify the proposed prediction algorithm. The experimental outcomes reveal that both decomposition algorithms can enhance the prediction accuracy of the GRU, with the VMD algorithm yielding superior prediction results compared to those obtained using CEEMDAN.

Abstract:The development of maritime autonomous surface ships (MASS) has attracted much attention at present. As a necessary technology of MASS, ship motion prediction still has some problems, such as low efficiency, poor real-time performance, and easy to be affected by sea conditions. Aiming at the above problems, based on the mathematical model of ship maneuvering motion, this paper uses the least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) identification algorithm, to establish an offline black-box identification model of MASS motion considering rudder angle and propeller revolution rates, and effectively predicts the motion of ships. On this basis, a sliding window is designed, and an error-based online modeling method of ship motion is proposed to realize adaptive prediction of MASS motion under the effect of ocean waves. A large MASS was selected for modeling and simulation experiments. The results show that compared with the traditional LS-SVM modeling algorithm, the model built by this method has a strong adaptive ability and can maintain high accuracy for a long time, meeting the needs of real-time prediction of MASS motion in practical applications.

Abstract:Under the influence of variable sea conditions, a ship will have an oscillating motion comprising six degrees of freedom, all of which are connected to each other. Among these degrees of freedom, rolling and pitching motions have a severe impact on a ship’s maritime operations. An accurate and effective ship motion attitude prediction method that makes the prediction in a short period of time is required to guarantee the safety and stability of the ship’s maritime operations. Traditional methods are based on time domain analysis, such as the autoregressive moving average (ARMA) models. However, these models have limitations when it comes to predicting the nonlinear and nonstationary characteristics of real ship motion attitude data. Many intelligent algorithms continue to be applied in nonlinear and nonstationary ship attitude prediction, such as extreme learning machines (ELMs) and the long short-term memory (LSTM) neural network, as well as other deep learning methods, showing promising results. By using the sliding window approach, the time-varying dynamic characteristics of the ship’s motion attitude can be preserved better. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed model performs well in terms of predicting the nonlinear and nonstationary ship motion attitude.
