Abstract:The authors investigate a kind of degenerate quadratic Hamiltonian systems with saddle-loop. Under quadratic perturbations, it is proved that the perturbed system has at most two limit cycles in the finite plane. The proof relies on a careful analysis of a related Abelian integral.

Abstract:In this paper, we make a complete study on small perturbations of Hamiltonian vector field with a hyper-elliptic Hamiltonian of degree five, which is a Liénard system of the form x′=y, y′=Q1(x)+εyQ2(x) with Q1 and Q2 polynomials of degree respectively 4 and 3. It is shown that this system can undergo degenerated Hopf bifurcation and Poincaré bifurcation, which emerges at most three limit cycles in the plane for sufficiently small positive ε. And the limit cycles can encompass only an equilibrium inside, i.e. the configuration (3,0) of limit cycles can appear for some values of parameters, where (3,0) stands for three limit cycles surrounding an equilibrium and no limit cycles surrounding two equilibria.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with degree n polynomial perturbations of a class of planar non-Hamiltonian reversible quadratic integrable system whose almost all orbits are cubics. We give an estimate of the number of limit cycles for such a system. If the first-order Melnikov function (Abelian integral) M1(h) is not identically zero, then the perturbed system has at most 5 for n=3 and 3n-7 for n⩾4 limit cycles on the finite plane. If M1(h) is identically zero but the second Melnikov function is not, then an upper bound for the number of limit cycles on the finite plane is 11 for n=3 and 6n-13 for n⩾4, respectively. In the case when the perturbation is quadratic (n=2), there exists a neighborhood U of the initial non-Hamiltonian polynomial system in the space of all quadratic vector fields such that any system in U has at most two limit cycles on the finite plane. The bound for n=2 is exact.

Abstract:We investigate the bifurcations of limit cycles in a class of planar quadratic integrable (non-Hamiltonian) systems with two centres, both surrounded by unbounded heteroclinic loops, under small quadratic perturbations. By a careful study of the number of zeros of Abelian integrals based on the geometric properties of some planar curves, defined by ratios of such integrals, we obtain complete results about the number and the distribution of limit cycles bifurcating from the two period annuli.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the number and distribution of limit cycles of a perturbed cubic Hamiltonian system which has 5 centers and 4 saddle points. The singular point and singular close orbits’ stability theory and perturbation skills of differential equations are applied to study the Hopf, homoclinic loop and heteroclinic loop bifurcation of such system under Z4-equivariant quintic perturbation. It is found that the perturbed system has at least 16 limit cycles bifurcated from the focus. Further, at least 14 limit cycles with three different distributions appear in the heteroclinic loops bifurcation.

Abstract:In this paper, the perturbation of a class of cubic Hamiltonian systems is considered. Using Abelian integral, we prove that there exists a neighborhood of the center where the system has at most two limit cycles for arbitrary polynomial perturbation of degree three or four, and at most four limit cycles for arbitrary polynomial perturbation of degree five or six, respectively, which can be reached.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the number and distribution of limit cycles of a cubic Hamiltonian system under quintic perturbation. By using the bifurcation theory and the method of detection function, we obtain that this system exists at least 14 limit cycles with the distribution C91⊃[C11+2(C32⊃2C12)]. These results in the paper are useful for the study of the weakened Hilbert’s 16th problem.

Abstract:By using the theory of bifurcations of dynamical systems and the method of detection function to investigate the bifurcation of limit cycles of a perturbed quintic Hamiltonian system with 25 finite singular points and four infinite singular points. From the detection functions for the perturbed system, we prove that under different determined parameter condition, the given system has at least 22 and 20 limit cycles and the configurations of compound eyes are also obtained.

Abstract:We prove that perturbing the periodic annulus of the reversible quadratic polynomial differential system $\dot x=y+ax^2$ , $\dot y=-x$ with a ≠ 0 inside the class of all quadratic polynomial differential systems we can obtain at most two limit cycles, including their multiplicities. Since the first integral of the unperturbed system contains an exponential function, the traditional methods cannot be applied, except in Figuerasa, Tucker and Villadelprat (2013, J. Diff. Equ. , 254 , 3647–3663) a computer-assisted method was used. In this paper, we provide a method for studying the problem. This is also the first purely mathematical proof of the conjecture formulated by Dumortier and Roussarie (2009, Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. , 2 , 723–781) for q ⩽ 2. The method may be used in other problems.

Abstract:In this paper we study the quadratic homogeneous perturbations of the 3-dimensional May–Leonard system with α+β=2. It is shown that there are perturbed systems having exactly one or two limit cycles bifurcated from the periodic orbits of May–Leonard system. This is proved by estimating the number of zeros of the first and the second order Melnikov functions.

Abstract:By using the saddle point theorem, some new existence theorems are obtained for second-order Hamiltonian systems with impulsive effects in the cases when the gradient of the nonlinearity grows sublinearly and grows linearly respectively. Abstract:This paper considers the weakened Hilbert’s 16th problem for symmetric planar perturbed polynomial Hamiltonian system. A [Formula: see text]-equivariant planar vector field of degree 12 is deduced to find as many as possible limit cycles and their configuration patterns. By using bifurcation theory of planar dynamical system and the method of detection function, we have obtained that, under the thirteenth-order perturbation, the above [Formula: see text]-equivariant planar perturbed Hamiltonian vector field of 12-degree has at least 117 limit cycles. Moreover, this paper also shows the configuration of compound eyes of the corresponding perturbed systems.

Abstract:We study arbitrary cubic perturbations of the symmetric 8-loop Hamiltonian, which are linear with respect to the small parameter. It is shown that when the first 4 coefficients in the expansion of the displacement functions corresponding to both period annuli inside the loop vanish, the system becomes integrable with the following three strata in the center manifold: Hamiltonian, reversible in y and reversible in x. In the latter case, the first integral is of Darboux type and we calculate it explicitly.Next we prove that the cyclicity of each of period annuli inside the loop is five and the total cyclicity of both is at most nine. For this, we use Abelian integrals method together with careful study the geometry of the separatrix solutions of related Riccati equations in connection to the second-order Melnikov functions.
