Expression of C-myc and bcl-2 Protein in Testicular Tumor

Abstract:Objective: To study C-myc and bcl-2 expression in testicular and to evaluate their clinical significance. Methods: C-myc and bcl-2 protein expression were studied by immunohistochemical technique in 38 samples of testicular tumor tissues and in 10 normal testicular tissues, and their clinical significance was analysed. Results: Expression of C-myc protein was significantly higher in tumor group than that in normal tissue group(P < 0.01). However,it was not related to the tumor grade or tumor stage(P > 0.05). On the other hand, expression of bcl-2 protein was positively related to the tumor grade and tumor stage, the incidence of expression of bcl-2 protein being decreased with grading(P < 0.05); and the positive expression of bcl-2 protein in low stage was also significantly higher than that in the high stage tumor(P < 0. 05). No significant correlation had been noted between C-myc and bcl-2 protein (r = 0.33, P > 0.05). Conclusion; bcl-2 protein might serve as a tumor marker for the evaluation of malignant potential and prognosis of testicular tumor. C-myc gene might play a promotive role in the tumorigenesis and tumor development of testicular tumors but is not related to the degree of defferentiation of tumor cells.
