Abstract:Objective To investigate the protective effect of ST.Thomas, ginsenoside and ginsenoside Rb on cardiomyocytes insulted by ischemia or ischemia reperfusion. Methods The atral muscle was obtained from patients with rheumatic myocarditis through intra auricular puncture in three situations: before clamping of the aorta, after clamping of the aorta (ischemia) and 45 min of off clamping of the aorta (reperfusion). The volume density (V V) and surface density N A of mitochondria in cardiomyocytes were studied by stereology and electronomicroscopy. Results In the ST.Thomas group, N A was high before clamping of the aorta, and gradually decreased after 45 min reperfusion. However the increase of V V was very little and slow in the ginsenoside group, and the changes of N A in the three phases showed no significant difference (P0.05). Conclusion It is suggested that ginsenoside has an obvious protective effect on cardiomyocytes with ischemia and reperfusion. Ginsenoside Rb also has a protective effect on cardiomyocates with reperfusion, but its protective effect is less than that of ginsenoside. It is concluded that ginsenoside has the best protective effect on ischemia reperfusion myocardium among the three phases.
