Abstract:Ceramic oxide coatings 30 mum in thickness were produced on TA2 pure titanium by AC microarc oxidation in aluminate solution. The composition and structure were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with-energy dispersive spectroscope (EDS), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and raman spectroscopy. The coatings contain, two layers: an outer layer and an internal layer. The oxide coatings consist of TiAl2O5 and rutile-type TiO2 phase. The content of TiAl2O5 phase in the outerlayer is much higher than in the internal layer. However, most of the rutile is distributed in the internal layer coating. EDS analyses shows that the aluminum a toms from the aqueous solution have diffused into the whole oxide coating, but are enriched in the outer layer. On the other hand, the aluminum and oxygen atoms have not entered into the titanium substrate. So the microarc discharge has hardly any influence on the titanium substrate.
