Abstract:The hybrid Petri nets(HPN) model for hybrid system is proposed. The basic conception and some characters associated with hybrid Petri nets are strictly defined and described in mathematical language . A production system is modeled using the HPN model as an example which is described and analyzed with the Petri nets. The HPN model can be used to simulate the production process with VisObjNet package.

Abstract:For the structural complexity of the manufacturing system, it is difficult to decompose and express the equipment reliability; a three-dimensional method based on Petri nets was proposed to model and calculate equipment reliability of manufacturing systems. This method includes three steps: The first step is to model the equipment chain network according to manufacturing process by Petri nets, and the reduction method of series and parallel Petri nets is used to simplify the complexity of Petri nets; The second step is to model each single equipment reliability by tree Petri nets, fault tree analysis (FTA) is adopted to express single equipment reliability, and then FTA is converted to tree Petri nets according to the conversion rule between them; The third step is to integrate chain and tree Petri nets into three-dimensional Petri nets to express the whole equipment reliability of manufacturing system. Finally, the reliability calculation of engine cylinder manufacturing system is taken as an example to verify the proposed method.

Abstract:A method to exploit hybrid Petri nets for modeling and simulating biochemical processes in a systematic way was introduced. Both molecular biology and biochemical engineering aspects are manipulated. With discrete and continuous elements, the hybrid Petri nets can easily handle biochemical factors such as metabolites concentration and kinetic behaviors. It is possible to translate both molecular biological behavior and biochemical processes workflow into hybrid Petri nets in a natural manner. As an example, penicillin production bioprocess is modeled to illustrate the concepts of the methodology. Results of the dynamic of production parameters in the bioprocess were simulated and observed diagrammatically. Current problems and post-genomic perspectives were also discussed.

Abstract:There are different characteristics in PUSH and PULL production process management. They are applicable in different environments. It' s one of the preconditions for decision analysis to describe the disciplines of the production process. The paper analyzes the models of PUSH and PULL production process built in Petri Nets theory and points out the positions in which conflicts of two models occur. The results supply the basis for further analysis.

Abstract:In recent years, computer simulation appears to be very advantageous technique for researching the resource-constrained manufacturing system. This paper presents an object-oriented simulation modeling method, which combines the merits of traditional methods such as IDEF0 and Petri Net. In this paper, a four-layer-one-angel hierarchical modeling framework based on OOP is defined. And the modeling description of these layers is expounded, such as: hybrid production control modeling and human resource dispatch modeling. To validate the modeling method, a case study of an auto-product line in a motor manufacturing company has been carried out.

Abstract:Purpose - To introduce a Petri nets model that describes a networked manufacturing system and its dynamics.Design/methodology/approach - A hybrid Petri nets model is constructed, the continuous part of which is to describe the dynamics of the production process within a manufacturing system and the discrete part of which is to describe the dynamics of the ordering and delivering process between every two manufacturing systems. In addition, the mathematical formulation of the dynamics of networked manufacturing systems is proposed to describe its behaviors in detail. Based on the model, the control system architecture of networked manufacturing systems is constructed to make and execute the production plan, solve the conflicts among manufacturing systems and realize the reconfiguration of the network.Findings - There are two key aspects in the dynamics of this hybrid system: first, in the continuous part of this hybrid system, the production process, the variables are discrete. Accordingly, the change of the systems states is not always continuous. Second, in the discrete part of this hybrid system the control variables are actually the safety and objective inventory levels and the minimum quantity of cumulative orders to trigger deliveries which determine the time and quantities of ordering or delivery. However, the relations between them are non-linear.Originality/value - Based on the model, the control system architecture of networked manufacturing systems can be constructed to make and execute the production plan, solve the conflicts among manufacturing systems and realize the reconfiguration of the network.

Abstract:In this paper, a hybrid Petri net-based hierarchical control and modeling framework for real-time process procedural control is introduced. The new modeling tool, called as hybrid predicate Petri net, is an extension of hybrid Petri net and Predicate/Transition net, in which the firing speeds of its continuous transitions are changeable and controlled by upper level and continuous mathematical model. Predicates are introduced to discrete transitions to represent the various constraints possibly existing in process systems. Definition of net structure and running rules of the hybrid predicate Petri net are provided. On the basis of supervisory model, the issues of safety verification, optimization of control parameters and scheduling of operating sequences are discussed. At last, a distillation column is used as an example for modeling and analysis.

Abstract:Automated manufacturing systems, which is characterized by dynamics, concurrence and synchronization, is a Hybrid dynamic system involving discrete and continuous behaviors. The static attribute and the dynamic actions of automated manufacturing system can be modeled through hybrid Petri net. This paper describes a hybrid Petri modeling for automated manufacturing systems, based hybrid Pertri nets, and capable of fault detection. A successful example of automatic manufacturing system is presented and analysis of the model is given using VisObjNet in this paper.

Abstract:The production and energy coupling system model provides the necessary foundation for the analysis and optimization of the collaboration among energy flow, material flow and information flow in process industry. Based on the thoroughly analysis of production pattern for process industry, this paper combines multiple Petri net modeling methods and adopts the component based encapsulation concept and presents a Component based Hybrid Petri Net (CpnHPN) approach. This approach is capable of precisely defining energy flow, material flow and information flow and their interaction and as well as can compensate for the complicated model structure, tedious modeling process and non-reusable model behaved by the currently existing Hybrid Petri Net methodology. CpnHPN can be used to model the production and energy coupling system of the process industry in a kind of hierarchical, modular and renewable way. In this paper, the architecture of CpnHPN is provided, followed by the corresponding model definition. A practical example is finally illustrated to describe the application of CpnHPN.

Abstract:An accurate and reliable Railway Driving Safety System has to be adaptable and flexible for changing requirements coming from various safety-protecting devices. Petri Net with Object (PNO) is introduced to model this system in order to overcome the disadvantages using traditional modeling techniques. The structure of the PNO possesses the characteristics of small scale and flexibility, modularization and operability, so that system model can be partitioned and modeled in separate dynamic active objects according to process approach. Workflow among these objects can be dynamically adaptive allowing for the subsystem change. Some examples suggest the advantages of this contribution.

Abstract:In this paper, we research on a kind of high-level net system and give the basic mathematics theory of Colored Petri net system and Pr/T system. We model and analyze two processes by using the theory of Colored Petri net and Pr/T. Papermaking system is a complicated passes hot and character process, has many peculiarity such as many disturb, strong coupling, great pure lag etc. The papermaking model can be ease built by utilizing the theory. So the theory of Colored Petri is advantage for model of complex industry system. Finally, we represent a new analyse method for papermaking process.

Abstract:As a basic part of a Virtual Manufacturing Platform, manufacturing system modeling is critical to the success of process control in a multi robot virtual manufacturing environment. An efficient manufacturing system model of colored valid petri net is presented that operates in parallel, is flexble and can handle uncertaintier. The model is valid according to the establishing rules and is robot process centered. The model can be directly applied to process control to integrate manufacturing plans and system control. Most important, the manufacturing system model is flexible and possesses the ability to automatically recover from system error. It also provides the ability to break the model down into more detail research units. A platform was developed using C/C++ and GL and an example is presented the illurtrate the process.

Abstract:In this paper we propose an extended object-oriented Petri nets (EOPNs) for effective modeling of large-scale complex re-entrant manufacturing systems (ReMSs). To cope with their complexity because of the re-entrant process route and the mixed production mode, a special type of transition called a main-bus gate (MBG) is introduced, which can cause products to undergo every re-entrant manufacturing stage. A hierarchical approach is also applied to cope with the complexity. As a typical large-scale complex ReMS, the semiconductor wafer fabrication system (SWFS) is taken as an example for demonstrating the proposed EOPNs. A case study is provided to show the modelling procedures, and the resulting model validates that the EOPNs can cope well with the modelling complexity of large-scale complex ReMSs.

Abstract:To improve the speed and the reliability of manufacturing system modeling,an agile simulation modeling technology was proposed based on Petri nets and eM-Plant.A graphical Petri net modeling tool was developed based on object-oriented idea and Visual Basic programming tool to achieve the modeling and analysis of Petri net.The key technologies of software development were analyzed.Through the COM interface of eM-Plant,the internal functions of eM-Plant were called to configure the objects,to create the layout model,and to transform the control logic of the Petri net into SimTalk language according to certain rules.The simulation of casting production line shows that this method can be used to improve the maintainability and reusability of the model and to guarantee the reliability of the model.So the rapid modeling of manufacturing systems is achieved.

Abstract:Modeling of an FMS framework with a high level Petri nets is given in this paper. The model is defined by places and transitions which denote different sorts of machine tools and workpieces with complicated color-parameter vectors, transformation rules and time delay parameters in the system. The model is able to describe the dynamical processes of FMS, it means to show many kinds of workpieces processed on different sorts of machines during every working stages. Thus, this approach is suitable for both flow-shop and job-shop production line modeling.

Abstract:In order to model clearly in mixed-model assembly lines, this paper proposes an Object-oriented Petri Net (OOPN) approach by combining object-oriented concept with Petri net theory. Firstly, the mathematical definition of OOPN was given. Secondly, taking automobile transmission mixed-model assembly lines as an example, the modeling through three different levels of assembly cells, assembly resources and the whole system was finished, and the message delivery mechanism and system behavior were then described in detail. Finally, the case study shows that OOPN can deal well with the complexity of modeling, and it lays the foundation of further analysis and property verification in the mixed-model assembly lines.

Abstract:In this paper, Hierarchical and Colored Petri Net is used to model physical distribution system of manufacturing enterprise and a method based on COM Technology is proposed to simulate the HCPN model, which not only provides modular and hierarchical conceptions to design general simulation distinctly, but also strengthens the flexibility and extensibility of the simulation system. We also demonstrate how to realize the simulation system by using Petri net COM for a steel making and continuous casting system. The proposed method can also to be applied in FMS and other DEDS.

Abstract:Mathematical method and simulation method are usually used to analyze the throughput and equipment utilization of large scale manufacturing systems. High quality models will significantly improve the efficiency and precision of system performance analysis. The basic concepts of timed Petri net are described in the paper, with a timed Petri net model developed for a typical manufacturing system. The timed Petri net model initially analyzes the throughput and equipment utilization using Markov theory. However, this method may have trouble when the Markov equation is used with complex manufacturing systems. ObjectNet simulation software was then used to analyze the timed Petri net model. The results show that simulation method obviously improves the analysis efficiency while maintaining high precision. The method has been used to analyze the optimal configuration of buffers between sequential operation cells.

Abstract:An approach for multi-disciplinary process modeling based on the extended Petri net and NSGA-II algorithm was presented to support multi-disciplinary optimization of process modeling of conceptual design for complex product, solve function in conceptual design, and determine product synthesis optimal design. The important function of conceptual design was analyzed in multi-disciplinary optimization according to characteristics of the design process of complex product, and the establishment of Petri net model and implementation of NSGA-II algorithm were given. A method based on transition sequences of the extended Petri net model used as NSGA-II algorithm chromosomes, combined with the selection and crossover operator of Petri net model elements to carry on NSGA-II optimization operation was implemented. The modeling method was applied to an industrial steam turbine design project for instance, and results demonstrated that it can give Pareto optimal solutions for the different design request under various circumstances, and it was a practical valid method for process modeling of conceptual design for complex product.
