Abstract:This paper studies pole assignment of a class of high-order (HO) linear systems, which contains HO time-derivatives of both the state vector and the input vector, and can be used to model some practical control systems directly. Based on an equivalent first-order linear system, whose state vector contains HO time-derivatives of both the state vector and the input vector of the original HO linear system, it is shown that the pole assignment problem is solvable if and only if solutions to a linear matrix equation, which takes a similar form as the original HO linear system, are such that a matrix is nonsingular. Meanwhile, all the feedback gains are characterized by solutions to the linear matrix equation. Explicit solutions to the linear matrix equations are then proposed by using right-coprime factorization of the original HO linear system. Explicit feedback gains are also established for some special cases. A numerical example is worked out to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:Singular distributed parameter system is widely applicable,for example,to the studies of the temperature distribution of composites,signal propagation in electrical cables,voltage distribution of electromagnetically coupled superconductive circuits,and aerocraft attitude control.Pole assignment and feedback stability are two important research aspects of the system.This paper,first of all,defines the pole assignment and feedback stability for the second order singular distributed parameter system with multiple inputs in Hilbert space,the subnegative definite operator,and the generalized inverse of the bounded linear operators,and presents some relevant properties;and then,it systemizes the second order singular distributed parameter system with multiple inputs into the first order singular distributed parameter system with multiple inputs by using the suitable transformation,which makes the two systems be of the same generalized eigenvalues,and discusses the pole assignment and feedback stability problems of the first order singular distributed parameter system with multiple inputs via functional analysis,operator theory and subnegative definite operator.Based on it,some sufficient conditions of the pole assagnment and stability of the second order singular distributed parameter system with multiple inputs in Hilbert space are obtained.It establishes the constructive expressions of the feedback control laws by using complex analysis,complex series and the generalized inverse of the bounded linear operators.The research results are not only of practical significance,but of important theoretical values for studying the control synthesis problem of the singular distributed parameter system.
Robust H-infinity Output Feedback Control with Variance and Pole Constraints for Time-Varying Uncertain Systems

Abstract:The design method of robust H-infinity output feedback controller with state variance and regional pole constraints is proposed in this paper for a class of time-varying uncertain systems and a quadratic matrix inequality region. Firstly, a necessary and sufficient condition of regional stable for the closed-loop system is introduced. Secondly, a sufficient condition for the existence of such output feedback controller is derived by means of linear matrix inequality approach. Under the proposed sufficient condition, the closed-loop system is robustly regional stable, possesses H-infinity performance and finite steady state variance when the disturbance is a zero-mean Gaussian white noise process. The gain matrices of the output feedback controller are also constructed by means of the method of matrix decomposition. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller designing method.

Abstract:This paper considers pole assignment of large-scale systems via decentralized state feedback control. Based on the parametric eigenstructure assignment method, we propose two simple algorithms which assignment all poles of the isolated subsystems at predetermined location and let the poles of closed-loop systems close to that of the isolated subsystems by choose the parametric appropriately. The numerical illustration shows the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Abstract:This paper discusses the pole assignment issues of two-dimensional switched linear time-invariant (LTI) systems with multiple equilibria. For the case in which each subsystem has a unique equilibrium point, a necessary and sufficient condition of arbitrary pole assignments for such switched LTI systems with multiple equilibria is proposed. A numerical example shows that even when all the poles of all the closed-loop subsystems are assigned to only two locations on the left-half side of the complex plane, the overall switched LTI systems may not be stable under arbitrary switching. For switched systems in which all the subsystems have a common single equilibrium point or different multiple equilibria, several sufficient criteria of stabilizing pole assignments and corresponding algorithms are proposed. The results imply that to stabilize switched LTI systems via the pole assignment method, all or some of the poles of some or all the subsystems can be assigned to suitable locations on the right-half side of the complex plane. An illustrative example shows that our new results are very effective and practical.

Abstract:This paper considers pole assignment and robust pole assignment problems for discrete-time linear periodic systems by using linear periodic state feedback. The monodromy matrix of the closed-loop system is represented in a special form. By combining this special form with our recent result on solutions to a class of generalized Sylvester matrix equations, a complete parametric approach for pole assignment via periodic state feedback is proposed. The free parameters existing in the solutions to pole assignment are further used to achieve robustness performances. The robust pole assignment problem is converted into a nonconvex optimization problem. Numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches.

Abstract:In this paper, we focus on a class of second-order linear time-varying(LTV) systems in which the control input matrices is invertible, a time-varying controller design method is presented to arbitrarily place the closed-loop poles at fixed locations for these systems. The desired fixed poles can ensure the stability of the closed-loop systems. Furthermore, these poles can also ensure good response performances of the closed-loop systems, unlike other poles placement methods for LTV systems. To improve the robustness with respect to the uncertainties of system coefficient matrices, an optimization problem for the design freedoms of the controller is solved. For the sake of use in practical applications, a design problem for the attitude control of the spacecrafts with time-varying moment of inertia is investigated. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed robust design approach.
Solutions to Linear Bimatrix Equations with Applications to Pole Assignment of Complex-Valued Linear Systems

Abstract:We study in this paper solutions to several kinds of linear bimatrix equations arising from pole assignment and stability analysis of complex-valued linear systems, which have several potential applications in control theory, particularly, can be used to model second-order linear systems in a very dense manner. These linear bimatrix equations include generalized Sylvester bimatrix equations, Sylvester bimatrix equations, Stein bimatrix equations, and Lyapunov bimatrix equations. Complete and explicit solutions are provided in terms of the bimatrices that are coefficients of the equations/systems. The obtained solutions are then used to solve the full state feedback pole assignment problem for complex-valued linear system. For a special case of complex-valued linear systems, the so-called antilinear system, the solutions are also used to solve the so-called anti-preserving (the closed-loop system is still an antilinear system) and normalization (the closed-loop system is a normal linear system) problems. Second-order linear systems, particularly, the spacecraft rendezvous control system, are used to demonstrate the obtained theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper considers robust pole assignment problem for discrete-time linear periodic systems via linear periodic output feedback. To character a measure for the sensitivity of the eigenvalues of the closed-loop system with respect to perturbations in the coefficient matrices, a robustness index for periodic systems is proposed, which can be regarded as a generalization of robustness index of normal LTI systems. Combined with the complete parametric solutions to pole assignment problem via output feedback in our recent result, the robust pole assignment problem is converted into a static nonconvex optimization problem, which is easily solved by Matlab optimization toolbox. A numerical example is employed to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:An approach for pole assignment in descriptor linear systems via proportional plus-derivative (P-D) state feedback is presented. This approach assigns directly the poles of single input systems by a set of arbitrary prescribed non-zero numbers in terms of the restricted equivalent form for regular descriptor linear systems. Based on this condition, the problem of pole assignment in multi-input descriptor linear systems is converted into the problem of pole assignment in single input descriptor systems. The proposed approach is simple in calculation and easy to compliment. An illustrative example indicates the effectiveness of the algorithm.
