Abstract:A new method for bicycle detection is presented. This method is different from the traditional video detection framework of background model with background update and foreground detection. A window classifier is constructed by histograms of oriented gradients and support vector machine classifier to explore that whether a bicycle exists in the window space or not. The classifier is trained by bicycle and non-bicycle samples to get the classify mode. Accordingly, the method can satisfy the need to detect bicycle under fixing and moving camera conditions. In experiment, 700 bicycle samples and 500 non-bicycle samples were trained to get the classify mode of the window classifier. Bicycle videos include different traffic conditions were tested and results validate the proposed method.

Abstract:A simple flow regime detection method of gas-liquid two-phase flow is presented, used in mini-pipes. First, the capacitance signals are obtained, and some simple statistics eigenvalues, such as mean value, standard deviation, total energy, average amplitude, zero-crossing rate and probability density function, are analyzed and used to identify the flow regimes. The principal component analysis (PCA) method is used to reduce the dimensionality of data sets and eliminate multi-collinearity of variables. PCA of four pairs of capacitance sensor can also reduce the noise influence. Then support vector machine (SVM) method is used to detect flow regime. In experiment, bubble flow, stratified flow, slug flow and annular flow are observed in the pipes with inner diameter of 3.1mm. Four electrical capacitance sensors are installed. Based SVM theory, a set of binary classifier is constructed, and flow regime can be detected successfully. The results show that the presented method is effective, and can improve the accuracy of flow regime identification.

Abstract:Deep learning (DL) frameworks are widely used in various applications due to their superiority over conventional handcrafted feature-based algorithms. However, applying DL to time-range feature map-based people flow detection (PFD) with frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar still faces several challenges: 1) simultaneously achieving people counting and motion direction recognition requires a unified framework; 2) existing mainstream network backbones designed for semantic information-rich optical images or natural language suffer performance loss in time-range feature maps with weak semantic information; and 3) the construction of labeled datasets in PFD scenes is usually costly, and limited data lead to performance loss due to overfitting. Therefore, this article proposes novel solutions from various aspects to efficiently apply DL to time-range feature map-based PFD. First, new preprocessing pipelines with Doppler spectrum analysis-based feature map truncation (DSAFMT) are proposed for the first time to simultaneously achieve people counting and direction recognition using a single radar in the radar PFD field. Second, a novel lightweight multiscale feature space fusion-based convolutional neural network backbone (MFSNet) is designed to efficiently extract multichannel differentiated representative features from time-range feature maps. Finally, a multiencoder-classifier cotraining architecture based on embedded features with two data synthesis methods and a newly designed loss function is proposed to improve the generalization ability of the algorithm. Using the test dataset collected from real scenes, the performance comparison results show that the proposed PFD algorithm outperforms the state-of-the-art algorithms and ablation studies demonstrate the effectiveness of each component of the proposed algorithm in PFD.

Abstract:Traffic Flow Analysis System is an important part of Intelligent Transportation Systems. It mainly contains two parts: vehicle detection part and vehicle tracking part. The efficient video object segmentation algorithm is the basis of vehicle detection part that aims to segment each vehicle correctly. In this paper, according to the street traffic environment, we adopt a multiple video object segmentation algorithm in vehicle detection. The algorithm consists of training section and segmentation section. At the training section, it uses codebook method to train the vehicle images: First, it uses Scale-invariant feature transform method to extract the features of vehicle image samples. Secondly, it segments the images into small patches to cluster. Third, it uses a new way to activate the codebook that can largely reduce the numbers of vehicle sample images. At the segmentation section, it uses an Implicit Shape Model to combine the recognition knowledge and the segmentation knowledge together. At last, we use this algorithm to implement a prototype of traffic flow analysis system, and achieve the expected results.

Abstract:SummaryVehicle classification systems have important roles in applications related to real‐time traffic management. They also provide essential data and necessary information for traffic planning, pavement design, and maintenance. Among various classification techniques, the length‐based classification technique is widely used at present. However, the undesirable speed estimates provided by conventional data aggregation make it impossible to collect reliable length data from a single‐point sensor during real‐time operations. In this paper, an innovative approach of vehicle classification will be proposed, which achieved very satisfactory results on a single‐point sensor. This method has two essential parts. The first concerns with the procedure of smart feature extraction and selection according to the proposed filter–filter–wrapper model. The model of filter–filter–wrapper is adopted to make an evaluation on the extracted feature subsets. Meanwhile, the model will determine a nonredundant feature subset, which can make a complete reflection on the differences of various types of vehicles. In the second part, an algorithm for vehicle classification according to the theoretical basis of clustering support vector machines (C‐SVMs) was established with the selected optimal feature subset. The paper also uses particle swarm optimization (PSO), with the purpose of searching for an optimal kernel parameter and the slack penalty parameter in C‐SVMs. A total of 460 samples were tested through cross validation, and the result turned out that the classification accuracy was over 99%. In summary, the test results demonstrated that our vehicle classification method could enhance the efficiency of machine‐learning‐based data mining and the accuracy of vehicle classification. Abstract:Flow pattern is one of the most important parameters of gas-liquid two-phase flow and has great influence on the flow of gas-liquid two-phase flow. In this paper,gas-liquid two-phase flow patterns in a hori-zontal pipe are analyzed with capacitively coupled electrical resistance tomography (CCERT)system. Princi-pal component analysis (PCA)method is used to extract the principal components of the electrical conductivi-ty information under different flow patterns,and thus the redundancy of signal between different electrode pairs can be eliminated. The three flow patterns are recognized by using K-means clustering algorithm. The experi-mental results show that this method has high accuracy. The static identification accuracy for bubble flow, stratified flow and annular flow is 97%,96% and 99%,respectively,and the dynamic identification accuracy is 92%,90% and 87%,respectively.

Abstract:Based on the capacitively coupled contactless impedance detection sensor with radial structure, a new method for the flow pattern identification of ductule gas-liquid two-phase flow is proposed by using wave-let packet analysis and K-means algorithm. Firstly,the real part and the imaginary part of the electrical im-pedance signal,which can reflect the information of the measured fluid,were obtained by using the developed capacitively coupled contactless impedance detection sensor. Then,the real part of signals and the imaginary part of signals were decomposed into 4 sub-bands by wavelet packet decomposition technique,and energy dis-tributions of different frequency ranges were calculated. By combining the mean and variance of the real part and the imaginary part of the signal,the feature vectors was constructed. Finally,using K-means algorithms to do pattern classification,the flow pattern identification model was built. Experiments were carried out in small glass pipe with different inner diameter of 3. 5 mm and 5. 5 mm. The results show that the developed capaci-tively coupled contactless impedance detection sensor,which can obtain the information of the fluid flow,is successful,the proposed flow pattern identification method is effective,and the accuracy of flow pattern identi-fication can be above 88%.
Continuous Perception Garment Classification Based on Optical Flow Variation.

Abstract:A novel continuous perception garment classification mechanism is proposed in this paper, with the aim to identify the correct category of the garment from a set of known categories. It has been observed that due to the severe folding and overlapped texture of garments, treating a video of the continuous deformation of cloth as a set of disordered static figures would be ineffective which leads to low classification precision performed by an image-based garment classifier. In contrast, a high-level decision making module that leverages the classification results of each single image would significantly increase the algorithm performance. In this paper, we incorporate the optical flow variation of deformable cloth between consecutive configurations as a representative of how it is traversing within the confidence interval of the image-based classifier. We claim that it is not the number of video frames but the sum of optical flow variation of the garment configuration between consecutive frames having the same category label that constitutes the belief of garment classification. In other words, if two consecutive visual appearances of the garment could be identified as the same category by the image-based classifier, then the more diverged that two configurations are, the more confident that the garment is correctly identified. Experimental comparisons between the state-of-the-art algorithm and the proposed algorithm in a public dataset have been provided which prove the validity of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:This paper describes parameter detection of bicycle flow based on video processing. The binary 'Temporal-Spatial image' (TS image) is used for counting the number of people. Skin-color model is introduced to segment the connected blocks in TS image precisely. And a shadow suppression algorithm based on the HSV color space is used to reduce the connected blocks. Finally, experiments with some video samples under different circumstances are carried out. The results are evaluated and discussed.

Abstract:Intelligent transportation system (ITS) is widely employed in dynamic traffic management to alleviate roadside congestion and increase traffic efficiency for solving the increasingly critical traffic congestion problems. With the advancement in ITS, real-time data collection of vehicles on the road has become a reality. A vast amount of traffic data ensures that the state of the road network may be analysed and predicted in real time for vehicle detection. Decision support system plays a significant role in the early decision making based on some defined criteria again available options. If the decision is made in the right and precise way, then eventually, it lead to success. This research investigates and designs a vehicle recognition algorithm and the road environment discrimination algorithm, which greatly increase the accuracy of highway vehicle detection, using a deep learning framework. In this work, we collect the highway video surveillance's images in various environments, create an original database, build a deep learning model of environment discrimination, and train the classification model to achieve real-time highway environment as the basic condition of vehicle recognition and traffic event discrimination. The proposed work uses a decision support system which is feed with basic information for vehicle detection and selection. Labeling the vehicle target and sample preparation of various environments are carried out to improve the accuracy of detecting the vehicles on a highway. The vehicle recognition algorithm is investigated in this context, and a vehicle detection technique based on weather environment recognition and a rapid RCNN model is presented. The performance of the vehicle recognition algorithm developed in this study is then verified by comparing detection accuracy with the existing state-of-the-art approaches. The comparison with these approaches in terms of accuracy, sensitivity, and F -score shows that our algorithm outperforms these approaches for detecting and classifying vehicles on the highway.

Abstract:For studying urban mixed-traffic,an one-way bicycle model based on two-dimension cellular automaton(CA)was brought forward after the moving characteristics of bicycle flow were analyzed.The size,velocity,state space and attribute,adjacent region of the cellular and the evolvement rules of local cellular were included in the model.Theoretical analysis and experimental results indicate that the model describes the bicycle flow effectively,and the digital simulation data on velocity-density-flux and maximum traffic capacity accord with practical or experiential data.The influence of lane number on bicycle capacity is investigated using this model.The simulation result shows that one-lane capacity increases alone with the added lane width,but the increasing magnitude is descending and will cease till a certain number of lanes.This trend completely obeys qualitative analysis.

Abstract:As a major type of transportation equipments, bicycles, including electrical bicycles, are distributed almost everywhere in China. The accidents caused by bicycles have become a serious threat to the public safety. So bicycle detection is one major task of traffic video surveillance systems in China. In this paper, a method based on multi-feature and multi-frame fusion is presented for bicycle detection in low-resolution traffic videos. It first extracts some geometric features of objects from each frame image, then concatenate multiple features into a feature vector and use linear support vector machine (SVM) to learn a classifier, or put these features into a cascade classifier, to yield a preliminary detection result regarding whether an object is a bicycle. It further fuses these preliminary detection results from multiple frames to provide a more reliable detection decision, together with a confidence level of that decision. Experimental results show that this method based on multi-feature and multi-frame fusion can identify bicycles with high accuracy and low computational complexity. It is, therefore, applicable for real-time traffic video surveillance systems.
Research on Recognition and Classification of Moving Objects in Mixed Traffic Based on Video Detection

Abstract:At present, mixed traffic is the major property of the traffic in some developing countries, mixed traffic parameters can be obtained by video detection which is utilized more and more for the traffic information collection. In this paper, recognition and classification of moving objects is developed. In order to obtain moving objects from the video sequence efficiently, this paper presents a background initialization algorithm based on clustering classifier, all stable non-overlapping sub-intervals in the training sequence are located for each pixel as possible backgrounds by slip window at first; then the background sub-interval is obtained from the classified data set by unsupervised clustering. According to mixed traffic, a simple effective feature representation algorithm is proposed, the distance between the point of object's silhouette and the center of gravity is defined as centro-distance, all of centro-distances along the silhouette make up of a vector, and moving objects could be recognized with the vector of centro-distance. Minimum-distance method is used to classify moving objects in mixed traffic into three categories: vehicles, bikes and persons. Temporal consistency is combined with to further improve the accuracy of the classification. Experimental results show that the proposed method can be applied well in real-world.

Abstract:In the field of autonomous driving, it is important to protect vulnerable road users (VRUs) and ensure the safety of autonomous driving effectively by improving the detection accuracy of VRUs in the driver's field of vision. However, due to the strong temporal similarity between pedestrians and cyclists, the insensitivity of the traditional least squares method to their differences results in its suboptimal classification performance. In response to this issue, this paper proposes an algorithm for classifying pedestrian and cyclist targets based on the micro-Doppler effect. Firstly, distinct from conventional time-frequency fusion methods, a preprocessing module was developed to solely perform frequency-domain fitting on radar echo data of pedestrians and cyclists in forward motion, with the purpose of generating fitting coefficients for the classification task. Herein, wavelet threshold processing, short-time Fourier transform, and periodogram methods are employed to process radar echo data. Then, for the heightened sensitivity to inter-class differences, a fractional polynomial is introduced into the extraction of micro-Doppler characteristics of VRU targets to enhance extraction precision. Subsequently, the support vector machine technique is embedded for precise feature classification. Finally, subjective comparisons, objective explanations, and ablation experiments demonstrate the superior performance of our algorithm in the field of VRU target classification.

Abstract:The abnormal charging behavior of electric bicycles may give rise to serious fire accidents. In order to avoid these risks, it is important to monitor the charging process of electric bicycles. Non-intrusive load monitoring (NILM) technology is proven to be an effective tool in this field. Existing studies mainly focus on using large amounts of transient data to learn the charging characteristics of electric bicycles, while transient data is not easily accessible considering smart meters installed at residential customer’s side mainly provide steady-state data for analysis. In light of this issue, we proposed a non-intrusive identification method of charging behavior for electric bicycles based on supervised fisher classifier. Firstly, the collected electrical data is preprocessed by filling in the missing values and deleting abnormal data. Afterwards, the supervised fisher classifier is utilized to classify the data and identify the charging behavior of electric bicycles. Simulation is carried out based on realistic data in MATLAB. Results show that the proposed method can accurately identify the charging behavior of electric bicycles.
Research on Fault Detection by Flow Sequence for Industrial Internet of Things in Sewage Treatment Plant Case

Abstract:Classifying the flow subsequences of sensor networks is an effective way for fault detection in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Traditional fault detection algorithms identify exceptions by a single abnormal dataset and do not pay attention to the factors such as electromagnetic interference, network delay, sensor sample delay, and so on. This paper focuses on fault detection by continuous abnormal points. We proposed a fault detection algorithm within the module of sequence state generated by unsupervised learning (SSGBUL) and the module of integrated encoding sequence classification (IESC). Firstly, we built a network module based on unsupervised learning to encode the flow sequence of the different network cards in the IIoT gateway, and then combined the multiple code sequences into one integrated sequence. Next, we classified the integrated sequence by comparing the integrated sequence with the encoding fault type. The results obtained from the three IIoT datasets of a sewage treatment plant show that the accuracy of the SSGBUL–IESC algorithm exceeds 90% with subsequence length 10, which is significantly higher than the accuracies of the dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm and the time series forest (TSF) algorithm. The proposed algorithm reaches the classification requirements for fault detection for the IIoT.

Traffic flow detection method based on improved SSD algorithm for intelligent transportation system

Abstract:With the development of the new generation communication system in China, the application of intelligent transportation system is more extensive, which brings higher demands for vehicle flow detection and monitoring. Traditional traffic flow detection modes often cannot meet the high statistical accuracy requirement and high-speed detection simultaneously. Therefore, an improved Inception module is integrated into the single shot multi box detector algorithm. An intelligent vehicle flow detection model is constructed based on the improved single shot multi box detector algorithm. According to the findings, the convergence speed of the improved algorithm was the fastest. When the test sample was the entire test set, the accuracy and precision values of the improved method were 93.6% and 96.0%, respectively, which were higher than all comparison target detection algorithms. The experimental results of traffic flow statistics showed that the model had the highest statistical accuracy, which converged during the training phase. During the testing phase, except for manual statistics, all methods had the lowest statistical accuracy on motorcycles. The average accuracy and precision of the designed model for various types of images were 96.9% and 96.8%, respectively. The calculation speed of this intelligent model was not significantly improved compared to the other two intelligent models, but it was significantly higher than manual monitoring methods. Two experimental data demonstrate that the intelligent vehicle flow detection model designed in this study has higher detection accuracy. The calculation speed has no significant difference compared with the traditional method, which is helpful to the traffic flow management in intelligent transportation system.

Abstract:Besides vehicle both pedestrian and bicycle are two primary components in urban traffic flow. Video object tracking is an important method of information detection in ITS. This system implements an approach for detecting pedestrians and bicycles in urban traffic scenes by means of feature-based reason on visual data. In the video traffic monitoring system, matching method is often used to find the position of the moving object in the image sequence. This paper tried to propose an improved algorithm of corner feature extraction, an algorithm of position matching using motion matching and a method for traffic object classification. Experiment results were followed for verification.

Abstract:To fetch the parameters of bicycles in heavy multi-traffic scenes, this paper developed a video traffic monitoring system firstly, then improved Kalman filtering based adaptive background model, and presented a new bicycles recognition method using decision tree and a counting algorithm based on area threshold respectively. Extracted multi-traffic classification, counting results and velocity-density relations from the actually scene video. The results indicate that the system can detect, track, and recognize the bicycles and can get the reasonable traffic parameters like density, velocity, etc.
