Abstract:Construction is an industry full of hazardousness in China. In recent years, the conditions of safety are getting worse and worse. Safety control is crucial to protect life and property and maintain corporation's development. How to control construction accidents is paid more attention to by the relative branches and enterprises. In this article, an analysis on safety accident of construction industry is developed systematically. On basis of this, safety accidents are classified by relative standards. Finally, some suggestions are given to improve safety management and to decrease the probability of accident.

Abstract:Based on the statistic analysis of highway construction accidents in the past, the characteristics of these kinds of accidents are summarized. It was concluded that the occurrence of highway construction accidents are influenced by the combination of the geological conditions, the external environment of society, the runaway of construction machinery and the subjective errors of constructors. The relation among these factors is analyzed by the theory of accident causation in safety ergonomics. Aiming at the inducements, the pre-controlling mode for highway construction safety is provided. Main causes, construction process and emergency rescue methods are monitored and evaluated. Finally, pre-controlling measures are established by pre-warning analysis so as to reduce the loss caused by highway construction accidents to the minimum.

Abstract:In the past years, with the scale, height and complexity of construction projects extending increasingly, the safety accidents in construction industry took place frequently, which unavoidably caused workers casualty and money loss and affected badly on the whole society. In this paper, the safety situation is analyzed firstly and the typical safety accidents are summarized according to the data about the safety situation in construction industry. The deficiency of safety consciousness among the participators of construction project and the insufficient supervision are regarded as the root of the safety accidents. To reduce the occurrence of the typical safety accidents, it is necessary to heighten the safety consciousness and the professional level of all participators, to consider the construction safety since the early stage, and to build up the perfect law and statute system of safety management in construction industry.

Abstract:The paper started from the statistical analysis from the two aspects,time distributions and accident types,based on the data of construction safety accidents collected from Jan 2003 to Mar 2006,totally 39months The results show that the accidents more frequently occurred during March with September within these years.The main time phases of high accident rate were 0:00～2:00,8:00～12:00 and 14:00～18:00 which were morning over time and normal working time.The critical accident types included falling from height,collapse,strike by objects,electric shock and hoist harm etc.Operational mistakes,lack of safety measures and management problems were concluded as the major accident causes.Based on these analysis,it is suggested that the government should improve the construction safety law and regulation system,enforce the routine inspections,strengthen the supervision functions and establish safety assurance systems for construction enterprises.

Abstract:At present,there are still many safety accidents in the construction industry of China,reflecting the deficiencies in construction safety management.In order to enhance construction safety management and reduce accident rate,this paper analyzed the causes of construction safety accidents based on system thinking and accident-causing theory.From five aspects of management(i.e.,organization,technical,resource guarantee,education,and emergency rescue),the causes of construction safety accidents were summarized and classified.Through collecting the reports and related data from 571 construction accident cases from 2005 to 2016,the frequency of occurrence of different causes were calculated.Based on these analyses,the causes of accidents were classified into three levels:critical,sub-critical,and general.This study revealed that the majority of safety defects exist in organization and technical management aspects,and rules violation always incur accidents.Finally,the corresponding measurements for controlling the key causes of accidents were proposed,which can provide references for improving construction safety management.

Abstract:Abstract Since the 21st century, China’s urbanization process is accelerating, the construction industry has developed rapidly and become one of the pillar industries of the national economy, but the construction safety problems also follow. Although the progress of modern technology and management level can improve this problem to a certain extent, safety accidents still occur frequently in actual construction due to the complexity of construction process and the interference of many uncertain factors. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out research on the prevention and control system of construction safety accidents, which is of great significance to improve the prevention and control ability of construction safety accidents and reduce the accident rate. On the basis of a large number of literature studies, this paper establishes an evaluation model for the prevention and control of construction safety accidents, analyses four levels including the risk of equipment failure, environmental risk, the risk of personnel failure and management risk, verifies the model through AHP, and gives weight to each index to draw relevant conclusions. Combined with the current situation of construction safety accidents in construction companies in recent two years, this paper discusses and analyses the problems existing in the prevention and control of construction safety accidents in construction companies, and puts forward corresponding optimization countermeasures, in order to provide assistance for the decision-making of the prevention and control of construction safety accidents.

Abstract:Abstract The management of civil construction safety must start from understanding the causes of construction safety accidents. For this reason, experts and scholars at home and abroad have conducted a lot of investigation and research, and have come up with a series of good analysis theories of the causes of construction safety accidents. This article aims to study the statistical analysis and risk control of civil construction safety management accidents. This paper is based on the safety risk assessment model of construction projects, and uses it to discover potential construction risk factors. The experiment in this paper mainly USES statistical analysis method to estimate the probability of each possible event by observing the occurrence times of each potential construction safety risk. Experimental data shows that construction safety risks are mainly caused by certain uncertain reasons during the construction process, and then the future state of the construction of the project can be accurately judged based on historical data or statistical data. The results show that after the classification of 400 accidents occurred in the investigation area, 150 of them fell from high places and 140 people died. 87 electric shocks, 75 deaths; 73 collapses, 65 deaths; Objects struck 38 times, killing 22 people; 43 mechanical injuries, 36 persons. It is the government’s responsibility to reduce construction safety and quality accidents, and it is also the minimum requirement of construction enterprises. The safety issues of civil construction must be strictly managed.

Abstract:Despite its important role in socioeconomic growth, the construction industry has an unacceptably high rate of accidents when compared to other industries. On Malaysian construction projects, overtime accidents have been a big problem. Despite the government's efforts to mitigate this threat, reports suggest an increase in the incidence of accidents on building sites. As a result, the goal of this research is to determine the fundamental causes of construction site accidents and near-misses. A survey was created and distributed to construction site experts in order to achieve this goal. The analysis revealed that worker ignorance of safe work procedures, insufficient provision of safety warnings/signs, working under the influence of drugs/alcohol, working with defective equipment, and insufficient working platforms were the leading roots of accidents on building sites. The study concludes that accidents do not just happen on construction sites but happen as a result of numerous causes. Hence, to reduce the menace of incessant accidents, there is a need to address these causes before and during construction works. The study recommends that before the commencement of any construction work, a comprehensive accident causation analysis must be carried out.

Abstract:The study on the construction safety issue and the human accident has been going on for a long time. But the study on the China's construction human accident is few. The main reasons of the frequent happening human accidents in China's construction industry deserve careful and serious studies. China's construction enterprise has their own characteristics, such as migrant workers from rural areas occupy a large proportion of the employees, the safety awareness of members at all levels are relatively weak, poor organization management of the constructing process, etc. These characteristics determine that the construction human accidents in China are mainly due to the organizational factors. Through the analysis of the human accidents in China's construction enterprises from an organizational perspective, we can make the conclusion that the following methods are important to the prevention of the human accident in China's construction enterprise: fostering the enterprise safety culture, making die safety management responsibility clear, strengthening safety training and education of the workers etc.

Abstract:Safety on construction sites has improved a lot as a result of effort in the past decades all over the world. However, the construction industry is still one of the most hazardous industries, as the fatality and injury records in construction industry continue to plague the industry constantly. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) of U.S. Department of Labor adopts an effective investigation procedure of accidents and those records are kept in a large-scale and open database of accidents. This database contains 6,735 cases of accidents about American construction industry, concerned a total number of 8505 injury and fatality incidents from 1990 to 2000. The construction industry in U.S. has taken advantage of this database to improve safety effectively. In the corresponding aspect, effort in China is inadequate and insufficient. The aim of this paper is to analyze the investigation procedure of accidents and to acquire the structure of accident database. Firstly, this paper introduces the investigation procedure of accidents based on the OSHA database. Then, the structure of the database is analyzed in detail. And this paper carries out comparison in data and data collecting procedures between OSHA of U.S. Department of Labor and State Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision of China. Furthermore, the critical safety hazards on construction sites are identified. The results of this study could provide valuable and useful information for relative departments in China and may have a contribution to improve safety on construction sites.

Abstract:Construction accidents are a significant hazard to the community, affecting sustainable development. This paper summarizes the safety situation of the construction industry in China over the past ten years. Detailed analysis is performed on fatal accidents that occurred in 2018 to reveal the spatiotemporal distribution pattern and characters of construction safety accidents. The construction failures are mainly attributed to management aspects rather than technical aspects. A case involving a major accident during shield tunnel construction in Foshan, Guangdong, in 2018 is investigated in detail. Strategic environmental assessment (SEA) is used to analyze the management issues of the Foshan metro project during planning, geological investigation, design, and implementation of construction works. The SEA result shows that the safety risk was very high with a low total SEA score. Based on the analysis, a guideline for safety construction management for sustainability is proposed.
