Abstract:In this paper, a web-service-based reference framework to e-formalize the manufacturing facilities, cells, workshops, and factories is given. By means of developing a task-driven decision-making mechanism, an extended enterprise can be shaped dynamically and then a dynamic e-supply chain can be explored with the algorithm given. Furthermore, the key points to implement the e-manufacturing, like visualization, communication, collaboration, etc, are identified.

Abstract:Collaborative product development needs the wider support of web manufacturing resources. A network-oriented resource service system and its key implementing technologies are presented in this paper. The manufacturing resource information is achieved through web search engine and processed with semantic description. The system also realizes the Internet-based cooperative development environment and web resource bases including web parts library as well as distributed knowledge repositories. Finally, an application case is introduced, which promotes the networked cooperative design and collaborative manufacturing of tire mould. It preliminarily demonstrates the feasibility and effectiveness of this Internet-based resource service pattern for product development.

Abstract:Many multi-national companies have operations in geographically different locations. They need to communicate and work concurrently on large amount of complex product data with their factories, sub-contractors as well as suppliers across the border. The use of e-mail and fax are far from satisfactory as they are time consuming and ineffective. In this paper, a web-based collaborative product design platform is proposed which enables authorized users in geographically different locations to have access to the company’s product data such as product drawing files stored at designated servers and carry out product design work simultaneously and collaboratively on any operating systems. There is no need for the users to install any utility software at their ends since the access is based on a remote screen sharing technique built upon a Browser/Server and thin client technology. This results in substantial saving in the cost and the product development time in a network environment.

Abstract:Networked manufacturing enterprises need a wider support from external manufacturing resources. This paper proposes a promising service to use web-based extended manufacturing resources for product development. The system architecture and enabling techniques are presented. Manufacturing resources on the web are achieved through focused crawling and semantic web technologies. These resources are further utilized through web-based resource repositories such as part libraries. The major modules of web-based manufacturing resource service are encapsulated with web services. A case study of mould product development is presented, which promotes the networked collaborative design and manufacturing processes. Some preliminary results indicate the feasibility and scalability of web-based manufacturing resource services for networked manufacturing.
Visualized Part Manufacturing Via an Online E-Service Platform on Web

Abstract:This paper describes an e-service platform to implement web-based online part manufacturing in the form of synchronously collaborative work. A Java solution is used for constructing the correspondent systematic architecture based on the three-tier browser/server mode. Under the support of this architecture, a working logic of the online part machining is presented. Furthermore, some of the key issues, including digitalizing a manufacturing facility, selecting a feasible manufacturer, queuing a manufacturing task, modeling and scheduling a manufacturing chain, visualizing the manufacturing process, and using the synchronously collaborative work environment, are described in detail. At the same time, discussions about the application range and the supplier involvement are given. Finally, appropriate conclusions are drawn.

Abstract:This paper discusses some key issues on implementing an e-service-driven e-manufacturing mechanism coupled with e-business process. A tree model for configuring the organisational structure of an extended enterprise and an e-service model for sampling bottom manufacturing data and encapsulating them to up-stream to correct management layers are described in detail. Several methods on how to enable the above two models, including collaborative decision-making mechanism combined with the Analytic Hierarchy Processing (AHP)-based algorithm and expert experience for looking for coenterprises, the web server front-end implementation for digitalised machining equipments, template set configuration based on the protecting strategies of enterprise's core competition capability, the formation of Time-dependent Instantiated Template nets (TIT-nets), the tracking logic of e-manufacturing process, etc., are presented. In order to verify the methodology and the models, a running example is given.

Abstract:Extends the concept of e‐service to the whole phase of manufacturing. Develops an e‐service platform prototype based on this concept with Java Web solution including the mobile agent broking technologies and application service provider (ASP) principle. The key point to implement the platform is to enable an open Web information service infrastructure for the whole product manufacturing chain. Inside this infrastructure, product‐specific online manufacturing system can be created by means of using a kind of bidding model. All users participating in the manufacturing process are able to cooperatively finish manufacturing tasks in real time through sharing the same platform. With the help of BOM flow, the global information service flow can be controlled easily. In addition, the legacy hardware/software can also be encapsulated with aglets that are Java mobile agents. As to new ASP software packages, they can be configured simply via the plug and play mode to the e‐service platform. In this way, the on‐line networked manufacturing can be tested.

Abstract:The key features of manufacturing today are globalization, regional specialization, and multi-agent cooperation. The traditional network technologies have difficulties in meeting these demands in the new manufacturing environment, but the latest Grid technology provides new solutions. The development of Grid technology will significantly affect manufacturing. As a new manufacturing model, the Manufacturing Grid is emerging. Process management is an important aspect of manufacturing. In this work, a Grid-based cooperative process management system (GCPMS) was developed to cope with the complexity of worldwide production in the Internet environment. The following main modules are developed in the system: (1) the enterprise cooperation modelling module, (2) the project-management module, (3) the task-management module, and (4) the process-monitoring and control module. GCPMS benefits the dispersed institutions by creating a virtual project team to work together for a long-term project and effectively manage the cooperative process in manufacturing. The broader cooperation, application integration, and resource sharing are emphasized in the system. The open and standard interfaces bring GCPMS flexibility and scalability.

Abstract:E-collaboration and collaborative systems bring geographically dispersed teams together, and support communication, coordination and cooperation among the enterprises. Based on the collaborative design system developed by the author's lab for some automotive parts company in China, several key technologies for developing enterprise collaborative manufacturing platform (ECMP) are presented. A multi-layer architecture of ECMP is established, and the workflow of ECMP is designed. The application integration with Web services technology is explained. A four-layered ontology model for information description in ECMP is proposed. The method of constructing dynamic alliance based on multi-agent theory, and the strategies of task scheduling optimization are discussed. Finally, an application case of ECMP prototypical system is introduced

How to describe and find efficiently precious equipment resource in decentralized environment are two key problems that must be solved in the process of resource configuration of E-manufacturing. A basedontology mode for precise equipment resource and Manufacturing e-service mode are proposed and constructed in this paper in order to make up for limitations that arise from lacking efficient descriptive method for resource and service platform for finding, utilizing and optimizing the precise resource. Some key technologies, Such as e-Service Model for precise equipment, the e-Formalization of process to precise equipment, search Mechanism for precise equipment resources have been studied. Finally, as the verification of methodology mentioned above, a prototype system has been being developed in java.

Abstract:Cloud manufacturing (CMfg) is a new service-oriented production paradigm from the wide application of cloud computing for the manufacturing industry. The aim of this manufacturing mode is to provide resource-sharing and on-demand manufacturing mode to improve operation efficiency. Resource allocation is considered as a crucial technology to implement CMfg. Traditional resource allocation approaches in CMfg mainly focus on the optimal resource selection process, but the energy consumption for manufacturing resources is rarely considered. In response, this paper proposes a hybrid energy-aware resource allocation approach to help requestors acquire energy-efficient and satisfied manufacturing services. The problem description on energy-aware resource allocation in CMfg is first summarized. Then a local selection strategy based on fuzzy similarity degree is put forth to obtain appropriate candidate services. A multi-objective mathematical model for energy-aware service composition is established and the nondominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-II) is adopted to conduct the combinatorial optimization process. Furthermore, a technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution is used to determine the optimal composite services. Finally, a case study is illustrated to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:To solve the product data consistency problem which is caused by the portable system that cannot conduct real-time update of product data in mobile environment under the mass customization production mode, a new product data optimistic replication method based on log is presented. This paper focuses on the design thinking provider, probing into a manufacturing resource design thinking cloud platform based on manufacturing resource-locating technologies, and also discuss several application scenarios of cloud locating technologies in the manufacturing environment. The actual demand of manufacturing creates a new mode which is service-oriented and has high efficiency and low consumption. Finally, they are different from the crowd-sourcing application model of Local-Motors. The sharing platform operator is responsible for a master plan for the platform, proposing a open interface standard and establishing a service operation mode.

Abstract:After describing the background of global manufacturing, the definition of e-manufacturing is given. And then a reference architecture, including the e-formalization of manufacturing facilities and the construction of e-manufacturing system based on web services, is put forward. According to it, the implementing method and the correspondent enabling techniques, such as e-manufacturing chain and its dynamic scheduling, collaborative mechanism, visualization, and data exchanges etc., are explored in depth. Finally, a software prototype is developed as a verification of above ideas so that the manufacturing transparency and accurate digital production can be achieved through e-manufacturing technology.

Abstract:Cloud Manufacturing (CMfg) is the delivery of resources control and abilities for manufacturing through the internet. It offers a personalized manufacturing service through several processes (e.g. the order decomposition into tasks, the selection of one or several providers to perform them, the scheduling of the whole manufacturing process). The current paper aims to provide an optimized methodology for task scheduling. In a first time, it identifies the background and general concept of CMfg, focuses further on the scheduling challenges and the environmental data and constraints to propose an optimized methodology for the scheduling process.

Abstract:The goal of manufacturing no longer lies in making products in a system level but extends to the systematic processing of information and resources to create more flexible and timely service for mass individualised needs of customers in a global level. As new materials, new technology such as social computing and new configurations for the manufacturer emerge, the distinctions among mechatronics, manufacturing, and service industries become blurred. Consequently, it is expected that the definitions of manufacturing become even broader. This paper presents a novel concept of social intelligence way toward service-oriented manufacturing termed social manufacturing. The social intelligent techniques are introduced as embedding knowledge in the configuration outsourcing and crowdsourcing-oriented social manufacturing for the whole life cycle of mass individualisation process. As a result, the social manufacturing with advanced characteristics such as distributed, intelligent, and self-organisation is developed in which a novel approach for enabling mass individualised production is proposed. Abstract:Based on Java solution and Web technology, a novel e-service platform referring to the application service provider(ASP) mode for part manufacturing is developed. A series of manufacturing services, including resources registration, task quoting, capability evaluation, task allocation, manufacturing collaboration and manufacturing visualization, are integrated into the platform. In terms of using a hierarchical evaluation method, a dynamic manufacturing site configuration can be formed according to part manufacturing tasks submitted by customers. And the tasks can be queued, done and visualized under the guidance of the correspondent e-service mechanisms. As a verification of the system implementation, an order-driven example for the step-shaft fabrication is given to show the whole running route of the test.

Abstract:Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises benefits much from Service-oriented manufacturing, which utilizes the internet and service platform to arrange manufacturing resource and provides service according to the customers’ demands. On this platform, service selection is one of the key steps for customers to get the best services. This paper introduces a service selection approach in cloud manufacturing for Small- and Medium-size Enterprises. First, we build a service selection model, including service evaluation and service constraints. And then a service selection algorithm is presented based on the service selection model to identify the best service for a service buyer. Finally, a case study is given to illustrate how this approach works in Cloud Manufacturing Platform for Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (CMfg-SME).

Abstract:In recent years, the business landscape has been reshaped by the fusion of manufacturing and service industries, driven by the "Internet+" initiative and the integration efforts of the Chinese government. This research focuses on the behavior model of service-derived manufacturing within e-commerce enterprises, specifically emphasizing a well-known Chinese enterprise. The study used a case study approach to analyze the manufacturing transformation process. It also reveals insights into the "reverse penetration" model e-commerce service firms adopt. This study aims to help industry practitioners, policymakers, and researchers understand how digital transformation and innovation can enhance manufacturing excellence within e-commerce enterprises. One key aspect examined is the role of e-commerce platforms in connecting manufacturers with consumers, optimizing production through big data analysis, reducing costs, and improving service integration.
