Abstract:Covalent binding of L-glutamic acid on a waxed graphite electrode (WGE) was conducted by anodizing the WGE in ethanol solution at potentials of 1.6 V vs. SCE. The prepared GA/WGE can be used for determination of dopamine (DA) in the presence of ascorbic acid (AA) and adrenalin (EP). The sensitivity and selectivity of the GA/WGE depend mainly on the anodizing potential and time of the electrode pretreatment, the accumulation potential and the pH of the determination media. Under an optimized condition, the cyclic voltammetic curve of DA gives a couple of quasi-reversible surface peaks at E-m of 0.145 V vs. SCE, corresponding to a one electron-one proton redox step of a monolayer DA accumulated on the GA/WGE. AA and EP can also be accumulated and catalytically oxidized at the electrode at E-pa of 0.30 V and 0.17 V respectively. In the presence of AA less then 0.1 mmol/L I the oxidation peak of DA can be used for quantitative determination with a linear range of 2.0 x 10(-4) similar to 5.0 x 10(-7) mol/L and a detection limit of 2.5 x 10(-7) mol/L DA. In the presence of EP and higher concentration of AA, the re-reduction peak of DA can be used for the determination with a linear range of 1.0 x 10(-4) similar to 2.5 x 10(-6) mol/L and a detection limit of 7.5 x 10(-7) mol/L DA. The GA/WGE is easy to prepare with good reproducibility and satisfactory for quantitative determination.
