Abstract:In this paper, a (n - 1,n)-embedding of complete graph K-n, of order n on some surface is provided. In the same way, a double cover of K-n by n - 1 circuits of length n is provided. After this, nearly regular embeddings of some graphs are also provided too. Moreover, all of these support the small circuit double cover conjecture.

Abstract:In this paper the authors investigate the embeddings of the circular graphs. The authors determine the minimum orientable genus and the minimum nonorientable genus and show that all the circular graphs are up-embeddable. The authors show that for a fixed integer l(> 3) and large enough n, there is only one way to embed a 4-regular circular graph C(n,l) into the torus such that each face is a quadrilateral. In particular, the authors find that both the torus and the Klein bottle may be quadrangulated by the circular graph C(2l + 2,l) which, by introducing some new edges, may also triangulate both of the two surfaces.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the surface embedding of matching extendable graphs. There are two directions extending the theory of perfect matchings, that is, matching extendability and factor-criticality. In solving a problem posed by Plummer, Dean (1992) established the fascinating formula for the minimum number k = mu(Sigma) such that every Sigma-embeddable graph is not k-extendable. Su and Zhang, Plummer and Zha found the minimum number n = rho(Sigma) such that every Sigma-embeddable graph is not n-factor-critical. Based on the notion of (n, k)-graphs which associates these two parameters, we found the formula for the minimum number k = mu,(n, Sigma) such that every Sigma-embeddable graph is not an (n, k)-graph. To access this two-parameter-problem, we consider its dual problem and find out mu(n, Sigma) conversely. The same approach works for rediscovering the formula of the number rho(Sigma). Abstract:A connected graph G with at least 2m+2n+2 vertices is said to have property E(m,n) if for any two disjoint matchings M and N of sizes m and n respectively, G has a perfect matching F such that M⊆F and N∩F=0̸. Let μ(Σ) be the smallest integer k such that no graphs embedded in the surface Σ are k-extendable. It has been shown that no graphs embedded in some scattered surfaces as the sphere, projective plane, torus and Klein bottle are E(μ(Σ)−1,1). In this paper, we show that this result holds for all surfaces. Furthermore, we obtain that for each integer k≥4, if a graph G embedded in a surface has too many vertices, then G does not have property E(k−1,1).

Abstract:In 1985, Alon and Tarsi conjectured that the length of a shortest cycle cover of a bridgeless graph H is at most 7/5 |E(H|). The conjecture is still open. Let G be a 2-edge-connected graph embedded with face-width k on the non-spherical orientable surface S g . We give an upper bound on the length of a cycle cover of G. In particular, if g = 1 and k ≥ 48, or g = 2 and k ≥ 427, or g ≥ 3 and k ≥ 288(4 g - 1), then the upper bound is 7/5 |E(G|), which means that Alon and Tarsi’s conjecture holds for such a graph.

Abstract:In this paper we mainly prove that let G be a (k + 1)-edge-connected simple graph of order n with girth g. Then G is upper embeddable if $\sum\limits_{v \in I(G)} {d_G (v) \geqslant n - 2g + 5 - 3k - (g - 5)k^2 } $ for any independent set I(G) = {υ i | 1 ⩽ i ⩽ k 2 + 2}, k = 0,1,2 and the lower bound is tight.
Surface embedding of non-bipartite $k$-extendable graphs

Abstract: We find the minimum number $k=\mu'(\Sigma)$ for any surface $\Sigma$, such that every $\Sigma$-embeddable non-bipartite graph is not $k$-extendable. In particular, we construct the so-called bow-tie graphs $C_6\bowtie P_n$, and show that they are $3$-extendable. This confirms the existence of an infinite number of $3$-extendable non-bipartite graphs which can be embedded in the Klein bottle.

Abstract:An embedding of a graph on an orientable surface is orientably-regular (or rotary, in an equivalent terminology) if the group of orientation-preserving automorphisms of the embedding is transitive (and hence regular) on incident vertex-edge pairs of the graph. A classification of orientably-regular embeddings of complete graphs was obtained by L. D. James and G. A. Jones [in "Regular orientable imbeddings of complete graphs", J. Combinatorial Theory Ser. B 39 (1985), 353-367], pointing out interesting connections to finite fields and Frobenius groups. By a combination of graph-theoretic methods and tools from combinatorial group theory we extend results of James and Jones to classification of orientably-regular embeddings of complete multigraphs with arbitrary edge-multiplicity.

Maximum genus embeddings of dense eulerian graphs with specified faces

Abstract:We give a density condition for when, subject to a necessary parity condition, an eulerian graph or digraph may be cellularly embedded in an orientable surface so that it has exactly two faces, each bounded by an euler circuit, one of which may be specified in advance. More generally, suppose that every vertex in an $n$-vertex eulerian digraph (loops and multiple arcs allowed) has at least $(4n+2)/5$ neighbors, and specify any decomposition of the arcs into disjoint directed circuits (closed trails). We show that such a digraph has an orientable embedding in which the given circuits are facial walks and there are exactly one or two other faces. This embedding then has maximum genus relative to the given circuits being facial walks. When there is only one other face, it is necessarily bounded by an euler circuit. Consequently, if the numbers of vertices and edges have the same parity, a sufficiently dense digraph $D$ with a given directed euler circuit $T$ has an orientable embedding with exactly two faces, each bounded by an euler circuit, one of which is $T$. These results for digraphs give analogous results for graphs as immediate corollaries. The main theorem encompasses several special cases in the literature, such as when the digraph is a tournament.

Minimum Genus Embeddings of the Complete Graph

Abstract:In this paper, the problem of construction of exponentially many minimum genus embeddings of complete graphs in surfaces are studied. There are three approaches to solve this problem. The first approach is to construct exponentially many graphs by the theory of graceful labeling of paths; the second approach is to find a current assignment of the current graph by the theory of current graph; the third approach is to find exponentially many embedding (or rotation) schemes of complete graph by finding exponentially many distinct maximum genus embeddings of the current graph. According to this three approaches, we can construct exponentially many minimum genus embeddings of complete graph K 12s+8 in orientable surfaces, which show that there are at least $\frac{10}{3} \times (\frac{200}{9})^s$ distinct minimum genus embeddings for K 12s+8 in orientable surfaces. We have also proved that K 12s+8 has at least $\frac{10}{3} \times (\frac{200}{9})^s$ distinct minimum genus embeddings in non-orientable surfaces.

Abstract:In 1990, Bondy posed the small circuit double cover (SCDC) conjecture: Every 2-connected graph has a circuit double cover (CDC) with the number of circuits less than | V | (the order of the vertex set V ). The strong embedding conjecture states that every 2-connected graph has a strong embedding on some surface in which the boundary of each face is a circuit. In this paper, HP-graph is defined as the graph which has a strong embedding on the projective plane with one face of valence | V | and the other faces of valence 3. And it is proved that the HP-graph has a strong embedding with | V | −1 or less faces on some surface, which confirms both the SCDC conjecture and the strong embedding conjecture.
On high genus extensions of Negami's conjecture

Abstract:Negami's famous planar cover conjecture is equivalent to the statement that a connected graph can be embedded in the projective plane if and only if it has a projective planar cover. In 1999, Hliněný proposed extending this conjecture to higher genus non-orientable surfaces. In this paper, we put forward a natural extension that encompasses orientable surfaces as well; for every compact surface $\Sigma$, a connected graph $G$ has a finite cover embeddable in $\Sigma$ if and only if $G$ is embeddable in a surface covered by $\Sigma$. As evidence toward this, we prove that for every surface $\Sigma$, the connected graphs with a finite cover embeddable in $\Sigma$ have bounded Euler genus. Moreover, we show that these extensions of Negami's conjecture are decidable for every compact surface of sufficiently large Euler genus, surpassing what is known for Negami's original conjecture. We also prove the natural analogue for countable graphs embeddable into a compact (orientable) surface. More precisely, we prove that a connected countable graph $G$ has a finite ply cover that embeds into a compact (orientable) surface if and only if $G$ embeds into a compact (orientable) surface. Our most general theorem, from which these results are derived, is that there is a constant $c>0$ such that for every surface $\Sigma$, there exists a decreasing function $p_\Sigma:\mathbb{N} \to \mathbb{N}$ with $\lim_{g\to \infty}p_\Sigma(g) =0$ such that every finite cover embeddable in $\Sigma$ of any connected graph with Euler genus $g\ge c$ has ply at most $p_\Sigma(g)$.

Abstract:Enumerating the isomorphism or equivalence classes of several types of graph coverings is one of the central research topics in enumerative topological graph theory. In 1988, Hofmeister enumerated the double covers of a graph, and this work was extended to n -fold coverings of a graph by Kwak and Lee. For regular graph coverings, Kwak, Chun and Lee enumerated the isomorphism classes of graph coverings when the covering transformation group is a finite abelian or a dihedral group in Kwak et al. (SIAM J Discrete Math 11:273–285, 1998). In 2018, the isomorphism classes of graph coverings are enumerated when the covering transformation groups are -extensions of a cyclic group. As a continuation of this work, we enumerate the isomorphism classes of coverings of a graph when the covering transformation groups are -extensions of a cyclic group for an odd prime integer p .

Covering nearly surface-embedded graphs with a fixed number of balls

Abstract:A recent result of Chepoi, Estellon and Vaxes [DCG '07] states that any planar graph of diameter at most 2R can be covered by a constant number of balls of size R; put another way, there are a constant-sized subset of vertices within which every other vertex is distance half the diameter. We generalize this result to graphs embedded on surfaces of fixed genus with a fixed number of apices, making progress toward the conjecture that graphs excluding a fixed minor can also be covered by a constant number of balls. To do so, we develop two tools which may be of independent interest. The first gives a bound on the density of graphs drawn on a surface of genus $g$ having a limit on the number of pairwise-crossing edges. The second bounds the size of a non-contractible cycle in terms of the Euclidean norm of the degree sequence of a graph embedded on surface.

Abstract:In this report, rstly, we present a connguration of a planar graph G, such that if G contains the connguration, G can be strongly embedded on a non-orientable surface. Then, we prove that for a planar near-triangulation G of order n, which contains at least one interior vertex, it can be strongly embedded on a non-orientable surface Q q , denote the embedding by (G), where q is the genus of Q q and q = " ? 2n + 3. At last, the set of face boundaries in the strong embedding (G) is an SCDC (small circuits double cover) C of G. Moreover, if G has no vertices of valence two, the SCDC is compatible.

Abstract:A fundamental result in topological graph theory by H.Whitney states that a 3-connected graph has at most one planar embedding. C.Thomassen generalized this to LEW-embeddings on higher surfaces. We establish several unique embedding results for 3-connected graphs on orientable surfaces which admit relatively large facial walks and representativity and hence generalize Thomassen's uniqueness theorem on LEW-embeddings.

Abstract:For any integer n, Taniyama and Tsukamoto described a Tn - inevitable regular projection of a planar graph in [5], where the planar graph is constructed by regular pentagons. The authors extend the conclusion and show that all of the planar graphs constructed by regular polygons with odd number (≥5 ) of edges also have Tn - inevitable regular projections. Moreover, a new Tn - inevitable regular projection of such planar graphs and some related results are also given.

Abstract:Given a natural number k and an orientable surface S of finite type, define the k-curve graph to be the graph with vertices corresponding to isotopy classes of essential simple closed curves on S and with edges corresponding to pairs of such curves admitting representatives that intersect at most k times. We prove that the automorphism group of the k-curve graph of a surface S is isomorphic to the extended mapping class group for all k sufficiently small with respect to the Euler characteristic of S. We prove the same result for the so-called systolic complex, a variant of the curve graph whose complete subgraphs encode the intersection patterns for any collection of systoles with respect to a hyperbolic metric. This resolves a conjecture of Schmutz Schaller.

Bi-eulerian embeddings of graphs and digraphs

Abstract:In 1965 Edmonds showed that every eulerian graph has a bi-eulerian embedding, i.e., an embedding with exactly two faces, each bounded by an euler circuit. We refine this result by giving conditions for a graph to have a bi-eulerian embedding that is specifically orientable or nonorientable. We give connections to the maximum genus problem for directed embeddings of digraphs, in which every face is bounded by a directed circuit. Given an eulerian digraph $D$ with all vertices of degree 2 mod 4 and a directed euler circuit $T$ of $D$, we show that $D$ has an orientable bi-eulerian directed embedding with one of the faces bounded by $T$; this is a maximum genus directed embedding. This result also holds when $D$ has exactly two vertices of degree $0$ mod $4$, provided they are interlaced by $T$. More generally, if $D$ has $\ell$ vertices of degree 0 mod 4, we can find an orientable directed embedding with a face bounded by $T$ and with at most $\ell+1$ other faces. We show that given an eulerian graph $G$ and a circuit decomposition $C$ of $G$, there is an nonorientable embedding of $G$ with the elements of $C$ bounding faces and with one additional face bounded by an euler circuit, unless every block of $G$ is a cycle and $C$ is the collection of cycles of $G$. In particular, every eulerian graph that is not edgeless or a cycle has a nonorientable bi-eulerian embedding with a given euler circuit $T$ bounding one of the faces. Polynomial-time algorithms giving the specified embeddings are implicit in our proofs.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate fundamental cycles in a graph G and their relations with graph embeddings. We show that a graph G may be embedded in an orientable surface with genus at least g if and only if for any spanning tree T, there exists a sequence of fundamental cycles C 1,C 2,…,C 2g with C 2i−1 ∩ C 2i ≠ /0 for 1 ⩽ i ⩽ g. In particular, among β(G) fundamental cycles of any spanning tree T of a graph G, there are exactly 2γM (G) cycles C 1, C 2,…,C 2γM(G) such that C 2i−1 ∩ C 2i ≠ /0 for 1 ⩽ i ⩽ γM (G), where β(G) and γM (G) are the Betti number and the maximum genus of G, respectively. This implies that it is possible to construct an orientable embedding with large genus of a graph G from an arbitrary spanning tree T (which may have very large number of odd components in G E(T)). This is different from the earlier work of Xuong and Liu, where spanning trees with small odd components are needed. In fact, this makes a common generalization of Xuong, Liu and Fu et al. Furthermore, we show that (1) this result is useful for locating the maximum genus of a graph having a specific edge-cut. Some known results for embedded graphs are also concluded; (2) the maximum genus problem may be reduced to the maximum matching problem. Based on this result and the algorithm of Micali-Vazirani, we present a new efficient algorithm to determine the maximum genus of a graph in $O((\beta (G))^{\frac{5}{2}} )$ steps. Our method is straight and quite different from the algorithm of Furst, Gross and McGeoch which depends on a result of Giles where matroid parity method is needed.

Abstract:A graph is s-regular if its automorphism group acts freely and transitively on the set of s-arcs. An infinite family of cubic 1-regular graphs was constructed in [10], as cyclic coverings of the three-dimensional Hypercube. In this paper, we classify the s-regular cyclic coverings of the complete bipartite graph K 3,3 for each ≥ 1 whose fibre-preserving automorphism subgroups act arc-transitively.
