In ritro activity of rifamycin and other 5 antibiotics against Staphylococcus aureus

Abstract:The in vitro activity of rifamycin against 119 Staphylococcus aureus was compared with those of 5 other antimicrobial agents. In the case of mecA gene negative Staphylococcus aureus were susceptible to rifamycin (MIC50 0.125mg/L MIC90 0.25mg/L), methicillin (MIC502mg/L, MIC90 4mg/L), Flomoxef (MIC50 0.5mg/L, MIC90 1mg/L), meropenem (MIC50 64mg/L, MIC90 128mg/L), netilmicin (MIC50 2mg/L, MIC90 2 mg/L) and vancomycin (MIC50 2mg/L, MIC90 2 mg/L). As for meca gene positive Staphylococcus aureus were resistant to methicillin (MIC50 > 256mg/L MIC90 > 256mg/L), flomoxef (MIC50 32mg/L, MIC90 64mg/L), meropenem (MIC50 64mg/L, MIC90 128mg/L) and netilmicin (MIC50 32mg/L, MIC90 64mg/L), but that were susceptible to vancomycin (MIC50 4mg/L, MIC90 4mg/L) and rifamycin (MIC50 0.031mg/L, MIC90 0.031mg/L).
