Abstract:Fungi of the order Boletales are extremely important in both ecology and economy, since most of them are ectomycorrhizal fungi, which play vital roles in maintaining forest ecosystems, water and soil protection, vegetation restoration and so on. Although previous studies have shown that this order has a very high species diversity in China, there are few reports on the species diversity of boletes in Jiangxi Province, China. Based on morphological (macroscopic and microscopic morphological characteristics) and phylogenetic analyses (ITS, LSU, and TEF1-α sequences), in this study, the wild boletes in Jiangxi Province were investigated, and five new species are described: Austroboletus albus, Xanthoconium violaceipes, Xanthoconium violaceofuscum, Xerocomus rutilans and Xerocomus subsplendidus. Descriptions and hand drawings of the new species are presented.

Abstract:Based on field surveys and a review of literature and herbarium specimens, three new Begonia in section Platycentrum from South China are confirmed and reported with morphological descriptions and illustrations, namely Begonia liangguangensis D.K.Tian & J.Y.Zhou, B. shaoqingii D.K.Tian & J.Y.Zhou, and B. qinzhouensis D.K.Tian & J.Y.Zhou. These three new species are morphologically compared with their allied species. Their conservation statuses are provisionally assessed as Endangered, Endangered, and Critically Endangered, respectively, according to Guidelines for Using IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria.
Amoenoboletus brachysporus (Boletaceae), a new species from Southern China

Abstract:Amoenoboletus brachysporus is described as a new species from Southern China. Morphologically, it is closely related to A. granulopunctatus and A. mcrobbii, but distinguished by its relatively larger basidiomata with the pileus covered with conspicuous greyish yellow to yellowish brown patches or coarse fibrillose squamules, longer and broader stipes densely covered with dark red, appressed squamules, and obviously shorter basidiospores (7–9 × 5–6.3 μm). Phylogenetically, newly generated sequences from the new species form a distinct clade within the genus Amoenoboletus. Detailed morphological descriptions, colour photographs of the new species and comparisons with closely related taxa are presented.

Abstract:Five new species of Orchidaceae are described and illustrated from China based on morphological and phylogenetic analyses.The recently described genus Apetalanthe is reduced to synonymy of Ponerorchis.Four new species of Orchidaceae from China, Heminium lijiangense, Peristylus fasciculatus, Platanthera milinensis, and Ponerorchis gongshanensis, together with a new country record, Peristylus tenuicallus, are described and illustrated based on morphological and phylogenetic analyses. Heminium lijiangense is closely related to H. elisabethae but differs from it by having the dorsal sepal ovate-orbicular and lip mid-lobe distinctly shorter than lateral lobes. Peristylus fasciculatus is close to P. tradescantifolius but is distinguished from it by having several fascicled and straight, root-like tubers (vs. one or two oblongoid tubers), old stems usually persistent, mid-lobe of lip narrowly ligulate-lanceolate and half as long as the lateral lobes (vs. midlobe deltoid, about a third as long as the lateral lobes or less), a raised callus at the base of each lateral lobe (vs. calli absent), spur gradually attenuate toward the apex (vs. spur clavate). Platanthera milinensis is similar to P. stenochila by sharing small green flowers and lip without a spur, but differs in having a creeping rhizome, a corymbose inflorescence, and a broadly ovate and slightly 3-lobed lip. Ponerorchis gongshanensis is similar to P. faberi in its small flowers, but differs in having a linear leaf c. 3 mm wide (vs. leaf 5–13 mm wide), in the lip having collar-like raised margins on the sides of the spur entrance, and a mid-lobe which is notched at the apex but not divided into two divergent lobules that are nearly as large as the lateral lobes, as in P. faberi. All the proposed species obtained high support in phylogenetic analysis as new species. The recently described genus Apetalanthe is reduced to synonymy of Ponerorchis and a new combination is made.

Abstract:Species of Boletellus Section Chrysenteroidei are widely distributed in the world, especially in the subtropical to tropical regions. By means of molecular techniques, the species diversity of this section has become clearer and new taxa have been uncovered. In this study, a new species of this section from the southeast Yunnan of China, namely Boletellus wenshanensis, was identified based on molecular and morphological evidence. This species can be distinguised by the combination of morphological characters: a quick dark blue reaction on all parts of the basidiome when bruised, a brown to brownish orange pileus uncracking with age, a scaly stipe covered with brownish punctate squamules, yellow hymenophore, interwoven pileipellis, ellipsoid to broadly fusoid basidiospores ornamented with longitudinal ridges, and a hyphohymeniform stipitipellis. The new species is presented with illustrated description and comparisons with allied species.

Abstract:The first occurrence of Marasmiellomycena and Pulverulina in the Chinese mycobiota are reported, M. tomentosa and P. flavoalba , two new species and M. albodescendens , a new combination, revealed by phylogenetic analyses and morphological study. These newly-recorded genera, Marasmiellomycena , which can be distinguished by their agaricoid basidiomata, dark-coloured stipe, sarcodimitic tramal structure, stipitipellis with yellow to yellowish-brown pigments and yellow-pigmented thick-walled caulocystidia and Pulverulina , which differs from other genera of Porotheleaceae by its pruinose stipe, decurrent lamellae, inamyloid basidiospores and absence of hymenial cystidia. We also formally describe three other new species of Porotheleaceae collected from Chinese temperate to subtropical zones of Fujian and Zhejiang Provinces: Clitocybula fuscostriata , Gerronema brunneosquamulosum and Leucoinocybe subglobispora . Furthermore, we include the results of a phylogenetic analysis of Porotheleaceae , based on a multi-locus ( ITS , nrLSU and rpb2 ) dataset. According to this analysis, Chrysomycena , Clitocybula , Delicatula , Hydropodia , Hydropus , Leucoinocybe , Marasmiellomycena , Megacollybia , Pulverulina , Trogia and Vizzinia are monophyletic. However, Gerronema is identified as polyphyletic and, additionally, Porotheleum does not form a monophyletic group either because Porotheleum parvulum and Porotheleum albidum are "unassigned" in phylogenetic analysis. The results of our phylogenetic analyses, coupled with morphological observations, confirm recognition of these new taxa. Morphological descriptions, photographs, line drawings and comparisons with closely-related taxa are presented for the new species. A key to the 22 species belonging to nine genera of Porotheleaceae in China is also provided.

Abstract:A new species, Smilax weniae (Smilacaceae), from Southwest China, is described and illustrated. The new species bears peltate leaves, which was previously a unique feature of S. luei. However, it differs from the latter by having a broad ovate leaf blade, longer peduncle, and sexual dimorphic flowers. Further phylogenetic analyses revealed that the new species were placed in a unique position in a subclade of Old World Smilax based on ptDNA and nrITS sequences. Combining detailed morphological comparisons and molecular evidence, we validated that S. weniae is an undescribed new species. Moreover, the plastome characteristics of S. weniae are reported.

Abstract:Five new combinations in the lycophyte family Selaginellaceae are made and transferred from Selaginella sensu lato. These five names include Boreoselaginella baodongii, B. sajanensis, Chuselaginella neei, C. negrosensis, and Hypopterygiopsis odishana. We also designated the lectotypes of S. neei and S. negrosensis.

Abstract:The current study was aimed to introduce five new species of Cordyceps from Yunnan, with morphological descriptions, illustrations, color photographs, phylogenetic placement, associated host, and a comparison with allied taxa. The five new species were morphologically distinct from all other Cordyceps sensu lato species, and it was also suggested that they should differ from other species in the genus Cordyceps based on combined multigene analyses. Employing DNA nucleotide sequences of the nr LSU , nr SSU , tef-1 α, rpb1 , and rpb2 , the five new species were recognized in the clade of Cordyceps by using molecular phylogenetic analyses, including five well-supported subclades: three new species, Cordyceps bullispora, Cordyceps longiphialis , and Cordyceps nabanheensis , were found in the subclade of C. pruinosa , and two new species, Cordyceps pseudotenuipes and Cordyceps simaoensis , were located in the subclade of C. tenuipes . The five novel species shared similar morphologies to other species in the genus Cordyceps , with fleshy and brightly pigmented stromata; perithecia superficial to completely immersed, ordinal in arrangement; and hyaline asci, with thickened cylindrical ascus apex. The morphological characteristics of 66 species in Cordyceps sensu stricto , namely, 5 novel species and 61 known taxa, were also compared.

Abstract:Species of Cantharellus subgenus Cantharellus are interesting and important for their mycorrhizal properties, medicinal values, and edibility. In China, there are many undescribed species of the subgenus. In this study, four new species of subg. Cantharellus , viz. Cantharellus albopileatus , Cantharellus chuiweifanii , Cantharellus pinetorus , and Cantharellus ravus from Hainan and Hunan Provinces, respectively, were described based on morphological and phylogenetic evidence as a contribution to the knowledge of the species diversity in China. Detailed descriptions, color photographs of fresh basidiomata, and line drawings of microstructures of these four new species are presented as well as comparisons with related species.

Abstract:Cyanosporus is a cosmopolitan genus characterized by effused-reflexed to pileate basidiomata with a bluish tint and allantoid to cylindrical basidiospores which are negative to weakly positive in Melzer's reagent and Cotton Blue, causing a brown rot. Three new species of Cyanosporus, namely, C.linzhiensis, C.miscanthi and C.tabuliformis are described and illustrated. Phylogenies on Cyanosporus are reconstructed with seven loci DNA sequences including ITS, nLSU, nSSU, mtSSU, RPB1, RPB2 and TEF1 based on phylogenetic analyses combined with morphological examination. The description for the new species is given. The main morphological characteristics of all 38 accepted species in Cyanosporus are summarized.

Abstract:Species of the genus Thelephora (Thelephorales, Thelephoraceae) are ectomycorrhizal symbionts of coniferous and broad-leaved plants, and some of them are well-known edible mushrooms, making it an exceptionally important group ecologically and economically. However, the diversity of the species from China has not been fully elucidated. In this study, we conducted a phylogenetic analysis based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions, using Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian analyses, along with morphological observations of this genus. Four new species from China are proposed, viz., T. dactyliophora, T. lacunosa, T. petaloides, and T. pinnatifida. In addition, T. sikkimensis originally described from India is reported for the first time from China. Thelephora dactyliophora, T. pinnatifida, and T. sikkimensis are distributed in subtropical forests and mainly associated with plants of the families Fagaceae and Pinaceae. Thelephora lacunosa and T. petaloides are distributed in tropical to subtropical forests. Thelephora lacunosa is mainly associated with plants of the families Fagaceae and Pinaceae, while T. petaloides is mainly associated with plants of the family Fagaceae. Line drawings of microstructures, color pictures of fresh basidiomes, and detailed descriptions of these five species are provided.

Abstract:Three new species of Boesenbergia , B. bosuangii sp. nov. , B. ganaensis sp. nov. and B. gokusingii sp. nov. were discovered in Sabah, Malaysia. Boesenbergia bosuangii is similar to B. stenophylla R.M.Sm. in the narrowly ovate lamina but differs in the shape of the bract and the calyx. Boesenbergia ganaensis is closely allied to B. burttiana R.M.Sm. but differs in the absence of a ligule, the longer petiole, the obtuse leaf base, the acute leaf apex, the bilobed calyx and the anther dehiscing by pores. Finally, B. gokusingii is similar to B. variegata R.M.Sm., by the single leafy shoot but differs in having an unequal, ovate lamina, a cordate leaf base, an acute leaf apex and the anther dehiscing by pores. The three new species are described and illustrated in detail. With the addition of these new species, there are in total 13 species with one variety in Sabah.

Abstract:As the supplement of the flora of Zhejiang, East China, two new species were described with illustrations. Cerastiumhuadingense Y.F.Lu, W.Y.Xie & X.F.Jin (Caryophyllaceae) differs from C.qingliangfengicum in having sterile stems absent, leaves sessile, petals slightly longer than sepals, and stamens slightly shorter than sepals. Ixeridiumdimorphifolium Y.L.Xu, Y.F.Lu & X.Cai (Asteraceae) differs from I.beauverdianum in having plant stoloniferous, basal leaves dimorphic, involucre 8‒10 mm long, inner phyllaries 8, and florets 7‒10. Paraphlomissetulosa C.Y.Wu & H.W.Li (Lamiaceae) was reviewed and morphological characters of the corolla and stamens of its type and the specimens collected in the field survey were critically examined. With barbate anthers and strongly divergent anther cells, Paraphlomissetulosa was transferred to Sinopogonanthera, and S.setulosa (C.Y.Wu & H.W.Li) H.W.Zhang & X.F.Jin was consequently combined.

Abstract:Abstract Tetraplosphaeriaceae (Pleosporales, Ascomycota) is a family with many saprobes recorded from various hosts, especially bamboo and grasses. During a taxonomic investigation of microfungi in tropical and subtropical forest regions of Guizhou, Hainan and Yunnan provinces, China, several plant samples were collected and examined for fungi. Four newly discovered species are described based on morphology and evolutionary relationships with their allies inferred from phylogenetic analyses derived from a combined dataset of LSU, ITS, SSU, and tub2 DNA sequence data. Detailed illustrations, descriptions and taxonomic notes are provided for each species. The four new species of Tetraplosphaeriaceae reported herein are Polyplosphaeriaguizhouensis, Polyplosphaeriahainanensis, Pseudotetraploayunnanensis, and Tetraploahainanensis. A checklist of Tetraplosphaeriaceae species with available details on their ecology is also provided.

Four New Fungal Species in Forest Ecological System from Southwestern China

Abstract:Four new wood-inhabiting fungi were found in Southwestern China within the genera Phanerochaete, Phlebiopsis, Asterostroma, and Vararia of the families Phanerochaetaceae and Peniophoraceae, belonging to the orders Polyporales and Russulales individually. Combined with their morphological characteristics and molecular biological evidence, the present study describes them as new fungal taxa. Asterostroma yunnanense is characterized by the resupinate, membranaceous to pellicular basidiomata with a cream to salmon-buff hymenial surface, hyphal system dimitic bearing simple-septa, thin- to thick-walled, yellowish brown asterosetae with acute tips, and thin-walled, echinulate, amyloid, globose basidiospores. Phanerochaete tongbiguanensis is characterized by the resupinate basidiomata with a white to cream hymenial surface, a monomitic hyphal system with simple-septa generative hyphae, the presence of subclavate cystidia covered with a lot of crystals, and oblong ellipsoid basidiospores (6–9 × 3–4.5 μm). Phlebiopsis fissurata is characterized by the membranaceous, tuberculate basidiomata with a buff to slightly brown hymenial surface, a monomitic hyphal system with simple-septa, conical cystidia, and broadly ellipsoid. Vararia yingjiangensis is characterized by a corky basidiomata with a pinkish buff to cinnamon-buff hymenial surface, cracking, yellowish dichohyphae with slightly curved tips, subulate gloeocystidia, and thick-walled, ellipsoid basidiospores (6.5–11.5 × 5–7 μm). The phylogenetic analyses of ITS + nLSU revealed that the two new species were nested into the genera Phanerochaete and Phlebiopsis within the family Phanerochaetaceae (Polyporales), in which Phanerochaete tongbiguanensis was sister to P. daliensis; Phlebiopsis fissurata was grouped with P. lamprocystidiata. Two new species were clustered into the genera Asterostroma and Vararia within the family Peniophoraceae (Russulales), in which Asterostroma yunnanense was sister to A. cervicolor; Vararia yingjiangensis formed a single branch.

Abstract:This paper published 5 new species and 2 new record species from China, all species belongs in Vandeae, Orchidaceae. One new record species determined the phylogenetic position based on molecular analysis.Five new species of Vandeae (Orchidaceae), Gastrochilus yei, G. minimus, Luisia simaoensis, Taeniophyllum xizangense, Tuberolabium subulatum, and two newly recorded species of China, Cleisostoma tricornutum, Luisia inconspicua, were described and illustrated.
