Abstract:This paper deals with the problem of disturbance attenuation via output feedback with internal stability for Lipschitz nonlinear systems. The main result is given in terms of the solutions of a Riccati equation and a Hamilton-Jacobi inequality. The method is shown to be suitable for linearized systems and, locally, for some general nonlinear systems as well. A numerical example is studied to show the feasibility of the presented approach

Abstract:The problem of H-infinity control for a class of linear systems with state saturation nonlinearities is considered in this paper. By introducing a row diagonally dominant matrix with negative diagonal elements and a diagonal matrix with positive elements, the H-infinity control problem is reduced to a matrix inequality feasibility problem that can be solved by the proposed iterative linear matrix inequality algorithm. The effectiveness of the presented method is demonstrated by a numerical example.

Abstract:The significant advances in nonlinear stochastic dynamics and control in Hamiltonian formulation during the past decade are reviewed. The exact stationary solutions and equivalent nonlinear system method of Gaussian-white -noises excited and dissipated Hamiltonian systems, the stochastic averaging method for quasi Hamiltonian systems, the stochastic stability, stochastic bifurcation, first-passage time and nonlinear stochastic optimal control of quasi Hamiltonian systems are summarized. Possible extension and applications of the theory are pointed out. This review article cites 158 references.

Abstract:Stochastic dynamics studies various stochastic dynamical processes and phenomena in nature,engineering and society using probability and statistics.After the developments in the last century,nonlinear stochastic dynamics has plenty of theories and methods,among which the theory and method of diffusion processes are dominant.The present paper outlines this theory and method,especially the Hamiltonian theoretical framework of nonlinear stochastic dynamics and control proposed and developed by the present author.Finally,the collaboration of researchers in various fields of stochastic dynamics and control is suggested.

Abstract:Advances in the theory of nonlinear stochastic optimal control of quasi-Hamiltonian systems and its applications in the last decade is summarized. It includes: (1) the basic nonlinear stochastic optimal control strategies based on the stochastic averaging method for quasi-Hamiltonian systems and the stochastic dynamical programming principle, that is, response minimization control, stochastic stabilization, first-passage failure minimization control, and the control for targeting a specified stationary probability density function; (2) further study on the nonlinear stochastic optimal control for application, such as optimal control of partially observable systems, bounded optimal control, time-delay optimal control, semi-active optimal control and minimax control; (3) the integrated nonlinear stochastic optimal control strategy; (4) the applications of the nonlinear stochastic optimal control strategy to engineering structures including hysteretic systems and fractional derivative systems. Some related background and problems to be studied in future are also pointed out.

Abstract:In this paper, the H∞ performance problems of linear systems subject to two types of input saturation are considered respectively. A sufficient condition, which makes the closed-loop systems to be quadratic stable and satisfy the H∞ performance prior given, is derived. According to this sufficient condition, a method is presented to design a static feedback controller for the plant in the present of input saturation. Abstract:The problem of output feedback H∞ control for linear discrete-time systems subject to sensor nonlinearities is considered. The existence conditions for the globally asymptotic stability and the H∞ performance for the closed-loop systems with sensor sector nonlinearities are derived. A method for designing the output feedback H∞ controller is then given within the framework of linear matrix inequalities. Based on these results, a controller design for the regional output feedback H∞ control problem with sensor saturation is proposed. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
Optimal H∞ output feedback control for a class of nonlinear systems

Abstract:This paper discusses optimal H∞ output feedback control using linear matrix inequalities for a class of systems with sector bounded nonlinearities. A unified model, which is the interconnection of a linear dynamic system and a sector bounded static nonlinear operator, is proposed to describe these systems. Based on the H∞ performance analysis of the closed-loop systems including the unified model and output feedback controller, the parameters of output controller are determined not only to guarantee global asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system without disturbances, but also to reduce the effect of external disturbance on the performance output to a minimal H∞ norm constraint. The nonlinear systems satisfying certain sector type constraints can be transformed into this unified model, and H∞ output feedback controllers are designed for these systems in a unified way. © 2013 TCCT, CAA.

Abstract:This paper investigates the H∞ synchronization problem for two discrete time-varying-delayed nonlinear systems such as Hopfield neural networks, complex systems, recurrent multilayer perceptrons (RMLPs), Chua's circuits etc., which can be transformed into the unified model consisting of a linear dynamic system and a static nonlinear operator. Throughout the paper, first a response system is established according to the drive-response concept. Second, the H∞ performance for the synchronization error dynamical system between the drive model and the response model is analyzed based on the Lyapunov stability theory and linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique. Then, based on the analysis, a state feedback controller is designed to guarantee the H∞ performance for the synchronization error dynamical system. During the design procedure, novel Lyapunov functions are established to increase the upper bounds of the time-varying delays with their lower bounds fixed such that the conservatism of conditions for the feedback controller synthesis is reduced. Finally an illustrative example is provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control laws.

Numerical Linear Algebra with Applications

Abstract:This is a survey paper on the recent development of the spectral theory of nonnegative tensors and its applications. After a brief review of the basic definitions on tensors, the H-eigenvalue problem and the Z-eigenvalue problem for tensors are studied separately. To the H-eigenvalue problem for nonnegative tensors, the whole Perron-Frobenius theory for nonnegative matrices is completely extended, while to the Z-eigenvalue problem, there are many distinctions and are studied carefully in details. Numerical methods are also discussed. Three kinds of applications are studied: higher order Markov chains, spectral theory of hypergraphs, and the quantum entanglement. Abstract:This note investigates the H∞ control problem for linear continuousand discrete-time positive systems. Instead of using algebraic techniques which have been widely employed for the analysis of positive systems, our development is based on matrix inequalities. With the well-established results of Lyapunov stability theory and nonnegative matrix, sufficient conditions are derived for the existence of desired H∞ statefeedback controllers that guaranteeing the resultant closed-loop system not only to be asymptotically stable and positive, but also has a desired H∞ performance. Moreover, even for an unstable and non-positive system, the results obtained can be applied to design a desired H∞ controller such that the closed-loop system not only is stable and positive but also has an H∞ performance. Abstract:This paper studies the problems of the stochastic stabilization and H ∞ control of a class of nonlinear stochastic systems that can be represented by a stochastic heterogeneous model. Based on this model, the problem of stabilization with state feedback controller is first considered, and a new H ∞ controller design method is then developed. Synthesis of both stabilization and H ∞ controller is based on the solutions of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Abstract:Some nonlinear plants can be transferred into linear time-varying systems after being globally linearized. The observer-based output feedback design for the nonlinear systems which belong to polytopic linear differential inclusions was presented. A theorem was derived as a natural extension of two-side projection lemma and Finsler Lemma which makes it possible to eliminate the diagonal block matrix in the basic matrix inequality. A sufficient condition in the form of LMI (linear matrix inequalities) for the observer-based H∞ output feedback design was derived. The derived control law can guarantee the stability and disturbance attenuation of the closed-loop system. The LMI can be easily solved with the LMI toolbox. It need not solve Hamilton-Jacobi Inequalities or equations which are necessary to the general method in the design of nonlinear systems.
