Abstract:Studies on the shallow water waves belong to the cutting-edge issues in sciences and engineering. In this paper, introducing symbolic computation, for a generalized nonlinear shallow water wave equation, with respect to the displacement and velocity of the water, we establish an auto-Bäcklund transformation with some solitonic solutions, as well as a set of the similarity reductions, the latter of which ought to be focused towards a known ordinary differential equation. Our results are seen to tie to the gravitational force and wave height.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate a generalized (4 + 1)-dimensional variable-coefficient Fokas equation for the shallow water waves. Through the truncated Painlevé expansion, we give the auto-Bäcklund transformations. Based on the Hirota method, we get the two-soliton solutions. With different choices of certain variable coefficients, we observe some phenomena of the two solitons. We obtain the ring-type and periodic-type two solitons. In addition, we derive the resonant two solitons with the linear, hyperbolic, and periodic types.

Abstract:The nonlinear variants of the generalized Boussinesq water equations with positive and negative exponents are studied in this paper. The analytic expressions of the compactons, solitons, solitary patterns, and periodic solutions for the equations are obtained by using a technique based on the reduction of order of differential equations. It is shown that the nonlinear variants, or nonlinear variants together with the wave numbers, directly lead to the qualitative change in the physical structures of the solutions.

Abstract:For the optical soliton model in fifth-order weakly nonlocal nonlinear media, to find its exact explicit solutions, the corresponding traveling wave system is formulated as a planar dynamical system with a singular straight line. Then, by using techniques from dynamical systems and singular traveling wave theory developed by [Li & Chen, 2007] to analyze the planar system and find the corresponding phase portraits, the dynamical behavior of the amplitude component can be assessed. Under different parameter conditions, exact explicit solitary wave solutions, periodic wave solutions, kink, and anti-kink wave solutions, compacton solutions, as well as peakons and periodic peakons are found with precise formulations.

Abstract:We study solitary wave solutions of the fifth-order Korteweg - de Vries equation which contains, besides the traditional quadratic nonlinearity and third-order dispersion, additional terms including cubic nonlinearity and fifth order linear dispersion, as well as two nonlinear dispersive terms. An exact solitary wave solution to this equation is derived and the dependence of its amplitude, width and speed on the parameters of the governing equation are studied. It is shown that the derived solution can represent either an embedded or regular soliton depending on the equation parameters. The nonlinear dispersive terms can drastically influence the existence of solitary waves, their nature (regular or embedded), profile, polarity, and stability with respect to small perturbations. We show, in particular, that in some cases embedded solitons can be stable even with respect to interactions with regular solitons. The results obtained are applicable to surface and internal waves in fluids, as well as to waves in other media (plasma, solid waveguides, elastic media with microstructure, etc.).

Abstract:In this exploration, we aim to seek a number of new exact solutions to the new (3+1)-dimensional integrable fourth-order nonlinear equation, which is widely used to describe the shallow water waves. Employing the Cole-Hopf transformation, we develop its bilinear form. Then, taking advantage of the ansatz function method, a new functional form is utilized to probe the singular complexiton solutions. Based on which, the non-singular complexiton solutions are derived by imposing the constraint conditions. In addition, we find the rational wave solutions and multi-lumps solutions wielding the rational function method and new homoclinic method respectively. At the end, we investigate the kink solitary wave solutions using the variational approach that is based on the variational principle and Ritz method. Meanwhile, the Hamiltonian of the system is also elaborated. Correspondingly, the graphic descriptions of the extracted results are presented to unfold their dynamic behaviors through Maple. As we all know, the findings of this paper are firstly reported and can enlarge the exact solutions of the considered PDE.

Abstract:Studies of the shallow water waves are active, possessing the applications in ocean engineering, marine environment, atmospheric science, etc. In this paper, we investigate a (3+1)-dimensional shallow water wave equation with time-dependent coefficients. Hirota method and symbolic computation help us work out (1) a bilinear form, (2) N-soliton solutions with N being a positive integer, (3) the higher-order breather solutions, (4) periodic-wave solutions and (5) hybrid solutions composed of one first-order breather and one soliton/two solitons. Moreover, we provide some nonlinear phenomena described by the associated solutions. All of the obtained results are determined via the time-dependent coefficients of that equation.

In this article, we study a ( )-dimensional Korteweg–de Vries–Calogero–Bogoyavlenskii–Schiff equation with the time-dependent coefficients for the shallow water waves. Abstract:Study of the water waves remains central to fluid physics, ocean dynamics, and engineering. In this paper, a (3 + 1)-dimensional extended shallow water wave equation is investigated via symbolic computation. Bilinear form and two kinds of the bilinear auto-Bäcklund transformations with some solutions are given via the Hirota method. The Nth-order Pfaffian solutions are worked out by means of the Pfaffian technique, where N is a positive integer. N-soliton solutions are exported through the Nth-order Pfaffian solutions. By virtue of the asymptotic analysis, elastic and inelastic interactions between the two solitons on some periodic backgrounds are discussed. Interaction among the three solitons is illustrated graphically. The higher-order breather solutions are investigated via the complex parameter relation. Elastic and inelastic interactions between the two breathers on the periodic backgrounds are depicted graphically. Hybrid solutions consisting of the solitons and breathers are obtained. Interaction between the one soliton and one breather on a periodic background is presented.

Abstract:Shallow water waves (SWWs) are often used to describe water flow and wave movement in shallow water areas. The article introduces a novel (2+1)-dimensional SWW equation. We prove that the equation is integrable and obtain an auto-Bäcklund transformation by truncating Painlevé expansion. Using the bilinear form of the equation, a new auto-Bäcklund transformation and some exact solutions are obtained. Besides, a convergent power series solution is derived using Lie symmetry method. These exact solutions can enrich mathematical modeling and help us understand nonlinear wave phenomena. Finally, conserved vectors are derived.

Abstract:A general semi-analytic method is suggested to obtain the solitary wave solutions for some kinds of nonlinear equations, by the combination of the function-series method and the simulated annealing technique. The validity and reliability of the method are tested by applying it to the study of a generalized φ4 equation. With the proper boundary and initial conditions, pulse-, kink- and breather-like solitons and their combinations are obtained.

Abstract:For the Earth, water is at the core of sustainable development and at the heart of adaptation to climate change. For the Enceladus, the sixth-largest moon of the Saturn, Cassini spacecraft discovers a possible global ocean of liquid water beneath an icy crust. Oceanic water waves are one of the most common phenomena in nature. Hereby, on the Whitham–Broer–Kaup system for the dispersive long waves in the oceanic shallow water, with respect to the horizontal velocity of the water wave and height of the deviation from the equilibrium position of the water, our binary Bell polynomials and symbolic computation lead to two sets of the bilinear forms, two sets of the <i>N</i>-soliton solutions and two sets of the auto-Bäcklund transformations with the sample solitons, where <i>N</i> is a positive integer. Our bilinear forms and auto-Bäcklund transformations are different from those reported in the existing literatures. All of our results are dependent on the coefficients in the system which represent different oceanic-water-wave dispersion/diffusion powers.

Abstract:In this paper, a new general bilinear Backlund transformation and Lax pair for the (2+1)-dimensional shallow water wave equation are given in terms of the binary Bell polynomials. Based on this transformation along with introducing an arbitrary function, the multi-kink soliton, line breather, and multi-line rogue wave solutions on a non-flat constant background plane are derived. Further, we found that the dynamic pattern of line breather on the background of periodic line waves are similar to the two-periodic wave solutions obtained through a multi-dimensional Riemann theta function. Also, the generation mechanism and smooth conditions of the line rogue waves on the periodic line wave background are presented with longwave limit method. Additionally, a family of new rational solutions, consisting of line rogue waves and line solitons, are derived, which have never been reported before. Furthermore, the present work can be directly applied to other nonlinear equations.

Numerous novel wave structures, such as lump, lump with one-kink, lump with two-kink soliton, generalized breather, Ma breather, Kuznetsov-Ma breather, Akhmediev breather, manifold periodic, and rogue wave solutions to [math]-dimensional fifth-order nonlinear Caudrey–Dodd–Gibbon (FNCDG) model via symbolic computation are studied based on the ansatz function scheme. Studying the lump-type solution involves selecting the function as the generic quadratic polynomial function. The lump with one- and two-kink solutions is created by mixing a quadratic function with one or two exponential functions. By adding hyperbolic function with a quadratic function, the rogue wave solutions are manipulated. In addition, the multiwave, [math]-shaped rational solitons and their interactions with kink waves are analytically evaluated. Furthermore, different 3D, 2D, and contour profiles are created in different dimensions by changing the parameter values.

Abstract:In this study, the (2+1)-dimensional generalized Hirota–Satsuma–Ito model is studied extensively to investigate wave dynamics of shallow water. A set of state of the art analytical approaches are being employed to acquire several fascinating wave structures. We have established a comparison between exact and numerical solutions to determine the absolute error. Moreover, the modulation instability as well as the stability of the solutions are adequately discussed. The 3D, contour and 2D plots are displayed for several interesting exact solutions to understand their behaviour. These strategies are demonstrated as more strong, effective, and efficient in developing various new wave structures which have numerous applications in several mathematical physics domains.

Abstract:In this research, we focus on some novel exact solutions of the new (2 + 1)-dimensional shallow water wave equation (SWWE). First, the soliton molecules on the (x,y)-, (x,t)- and (y,t)-planes are constructed via assigning the velocity resonance conditions to the multiple soliton solutions (MSSs) that can be derived via the Hirota method. Second, the periodic wave solutions are explored by means of the new homoclinic approach. Finally, the other diverse wave solutions including the kink wave, singular wave and the singular periodic wave solutions are also plumbed by the sub-equation approach (SEA). The dynamic performances of the extracted solutions are presented graphically to unveil the nonlinear physical characteristics. As we know, the extracted solutions in this paper are all new and have not been investigated in other literature, which can help us make sense of the nonlinear dynamics of the new (2 + 1)-dimensional SWWE better.

Curiosity for the shallow water has been excited by four recent Chin. J. Phys. papers, so that this shallow-water-directed paper plans to consider a (2+1)-dimensional generalized modified dispersive water-wave (2DGMDWW) system, which describes the nonlinear and dispersive long gravity waves travelling along two horizontal directions in the shallow water of uniform depth. With symbolic computation, (1) a hetero-Bäcklund transformation is constructed, coupling the solutions as for the 2DGMDWW system with the solutions as for a known (2+1)-dimensional Boiti–Leon–Pempinelli system describing the water waves in an infinitely narrow channel of constant depth, with that hetero-Bäcklund transformation dependent on the shallow-water coefficients in the 2DGMDWW system, the former solutions indicating certain shallow-water-wave patterns for the height of the water surface and the horizontal velocity of the water wave, while the latter solutions related to the horizontal velocity and elevation of the water wave; (2) two sets of the bilinear forms are obtained, each set of which is shown to depend on the shallow-water coefficients in the 2DGMDWW system and to be linked to certain shallow-water-wave patterns for the height of the water surface and the horizontal velocity of the water wave; and (3) two sets of the N -soliton solutions are also worked out, each set of which is seen to rely on the shallow-water coefficients in the 2DGMDWW system and to represent the existence of N -solitonic shallow-water-wave patterns with respect to the height of the water surface and the horizontal velocity of the water wave, with N as a positive integer. All our results are new.

Abstract:The time evolution emanating from "internal dam-break" initial conditions is studied for a class of models of stratified Euler fluids in configurations close to two-homogeneous layers separated by a thin diffused interface. Direct numerical simulations and experiments in wave tanks show that such initial conditions eventually give rise to coherent structures that are close to solitary-wave solutions moving ahead of a region of dispersive wave motion and turbulent mixing close to the location of the initial dam step. A priori theoretical predictions of the main features of these solitary waves, such as their amplitudes and speeds, appear to be unavailable, even for simplified models of wave evolution in stratified fluids. With the aim of providing estimates of the existence, amplitude and speed of such solitary waves, an approach based on Inverse Scattering Transform (IST) for completely integrable models is developed here and tested against direct numerical simulations of Euler fluids and some of their models based on long wave asymptotics. In particular, a novel regularized version of the Kaup model is developed to cure its mathematical ill-posedness, thereby making possible the use of its analytical predictions on the solitary-waves "content" emanating from step-like initial conditions. The a priori estimates of the new regularized model are found to be in reasonable agreement with the direct numerical simulations for weakly nonlinear regimes, this significantly improves predictions based on unidirectional models such as the Korteweg-de Vries equation.
Exploring solitary wave solutions to the simplified modified camassa-holm equation through a couple sophisticated analytical approaches

Abstract:The simplified modified Camassa-Holm equation, a developed Korteweg-de Vries equation, is an integrable nonlinear dispersive water wave equation with potential applications in diverse fields such as shallow water waves, liquid drop patterning, water surface waves in channels, tsunamis in coastal regions, ocean engineering, etc. In this study, we derived solitary wave solutions to the described equation, employing two reliable approaches: the enhanced modified simple equation and the extended Kudryashov methods. The enhanced modified simple equation technique yields solutions with variable coefficients through a generalized wave transformation. On the other hand, the extended Kudryashov method exploits the solutions of the Riccati and Bernoulli differential equations. The determined results include diverse soliton solutions expressed in the form of trigonometric, hyperbolic, and rational functions. Notably, for specific parameter values, these solutions exhibit wave of distinct shapes, including kink, smooth kink, flat kink, periodic, singular periodic, one-sided kink, etc. To apparently explain the physical behavior and the impact of the fractional parameter in the solutions, we plotted three- and two-dimensional graphs. The obtained solutions have potential applications in oceanography, spanning offshore rigs, ocean gravity waves, and wave energy.
