Abstract:Benzoxazolo[3,2-b]isoquinolin-11-ones 4, benzothiazolo[3,2-b]isoquinolin-11-one 5, benzimidazo[1,2-b]isoquinolin-11-ones 6 and isoquino[2,3-a][3,1]benzoxazine-5,12-dione 7 were synthesized by the reaction of homophthalic anhydride with the corresponding o-substituted anilines. Reaction mechanisms were investigated by isolation of the intermediate products under controlled reaction conditions. Electronic structures of 4a and 5 were investigated by ab initio Calculations. Photoinduced [2+2] cycloaddition reactions of 4a and 5 with electron deficient alkenes (acrylonitrile, methyl acrylate, dimethyl fumarate and dimethyl maleate) gave cyclobutane products (36, 37 and 39-47 respectively). The regioselectivity in these photocycloadditions was examined by FMO interaction considerations. The mechanism of the cycloadditions was investigated by fluorescence quenching and triplet quenching experiments, solvent effect on the reaction and calculation of free energy change for electron transfer (SET) between the excited states of 4a (and 5) and the alkenes.

Abstract:The La(OTf)(3)-catalyzed [3+2] cycloaddition reactions for the synthesis of benzo[d]oxazoles/benzofurans via quinones and 1,2-di-tert-butyl-3-(cyanimino)diaziridine (1,3-di-tert-butyl-2-cyanoguanidine)/vinyl azides have been explored. A series of 5-hydroxybenzofuran-4-carboxylic acid derivatives and 5-hydroxybenzo[d]oxazole-4-carboxylic acid derivatives were conveniently obtained with high yields and good stereoselectivities, which could be used for further transformations to valuable compounds.

Abstract:Reductive radical dearomatization N-alkyl quinoline quaternary ammonium salts to synthesize structurally complex and challenging polysubstituted benzo[d][1,3]oxazocines was first reported. The mechanism showed various allyl alcohols can be converted into alkyl radicals under reduction conditions of iron/silane. These radicals then nucleophilically attack the C4 site of N-alkyl quinoline quaternary ammonium salts, and intramolecular cyclization of the resulting intermediate generates the target product. This method not only produced a series of novel polysubstituted benzo[d][1,3]oxazocines but also prepared polycyclic benzo[d][1,3]oxazocines. Finally, this strategy made up for the lack of reductive radical reports on N-alkylquinolinium salts and also had the advantages of mild reaction conditions, wide substrate range, and novel product structure.

Abstract:A series of quinoxaline 1,4-di-N-oxide analogues were prepared from benzofurazan N-oxide derivatives and β-diketone ester compounds by the improved Beirut reaction. The structures of the target products were characterized by NMR, MS, IR and elemental analysis measurements, and that of 2-carbomethoxy-3-hydroxyquinoxaline- di-N-oxide was further confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Its crystal structure belongs to the monoclinic system, space group C2/c with a = 14.4320 (12) Å, b = 10.7514 (9) Å, c = 13.2728 (11) Å, V = 1958.5 (3) Å 3, Z = 8. The X-ray crystallographic analysis reveals that quinoxaline 1,4-di-N-oxide displays acyloin-endiol tautomerism.

Abstract:A facile and efficient method for the synthesis of novel 2-substituted 4-tosyl-4,5-dihydrooxazolo[5,4-c]isoquinolines from 4-diazoisoquinolin-3-ones and nitriles is reported. The reaction proceeded through a TfOH-promoted formal [3 + 2] cycloaddition and the products could be conveniently converted to 2-aryloxazolo[5,4-c]isoquinolines and the subsequent 2-(oxazolo[5,4-c]isoquinolin-2-yl)phenol which emitted bright green light in dilute dichloromethane solution and in solid form as well. Simple operation, metal-free and mild reaction conditions, short reaction time and broad substrate scope are the prominent features of this methodology.

Abstract:An In(OTf) 3 -catalyzed oxygenative bifunctionalization reaction has been developed for the facile synthesis of various α-functionalized ketones. A wide range of aryl sulfoxides and electron-rich arylalkynes prove to be suitable substrates for this transformation. The potential of our method was then extended to the synthesis of 8-substituted quinolines from ynamides and quinoline- N -oxides.

Abstract:A photocatalytic reaction of N-(2-vinylphenyl)amides, DABCO(SO2)(2) and arenediazonium tetrafluoroborates for the synthesis of 4-((arylsulfonyl)methyl)-4H-benzo[d][1,3]oxazines under mild conditions is reported. This synthetic approach is enabled by merging photoredox catalysis and insertion of sulfur dioxide via a radical process. The specific role of photoredox catalysis in this transformation is supported by mechanistic investigations and theoretical calculations.

Abstract:Substituted 4-alkoxy-2-oxazolines have been synthesized via the reaction of nitriles with beta-hydroxyacetals promoted by trifluoromethanesulfonic acid. The reaction is proposed to be initiated by the protonation of the acetals to produce carbocations that are then attacked by nitrogen atom of the nitriles, followed by an intramolecular cyclization reaction to form the 4-alkoxy-2-oxazolines. The proposed reaction mechanism has been validated by quantum chemistry calculations, key intermediate synthesis, and NMR spectra.

Abstract:A three-component reaction of aromatic aldehyde, naphthalene-2-amine, and tetrahydro-2,5-dimethoxyfuran in methanol catalyzed by iodine, is described in this paper. With the ring-opening of furan, a series of 3-aryl-2-(3-arylbenzo[f]quinolin-2-yl)benzo[f]quinoline derivatives were obtained in moderate yields.

Abstract:Under mild and metal-free reaction conditions a facile one-pot synthesis of oxygen and nitrogen-containing benzoheterocycles has been achieved through [4+1] annulation to para-quinone methides, followed by an oxidation/elimination sequence. Efficiently synthesizes functionalized 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran, benzofuran-2(3H)-one, and indole derivatives in moderate to good yields (up to 72%). A novel functional group tolerant oxidative Nef reaction utilizes DDQ without a base.

Abstract:Abstract A concise method for the synthesis furan and benzene fused 2‐tetralones via photo‐induced rearrangement of 2′‐(furan‐2‐yl)‐[1,1′‐biphenyl]‐4‐ols was developed. Under argon atmosphere and room temperature, 6,7‐dihydrophenanthro[9,10‐ b ]furan‐5(4 H )‐ones were obtained by irradiating 2′‐(furan‐2‐yl)‐[1,1′‐biphenyl]‐4‐ols with a 254 nm UV lamp (64 W) in dichloromethane (DCM) for 1 hour. The reaction mechanism includes 6π‐electrocyclization, thermal suprafacial [1,5]‐H shift, double thermal suprafacial [1,3]‐H shift and keto‐enol isomerization.

Abstract:A catalyst‐controlled selective synthesis of benzofuro[2,3‐c]isoquinolines and 5,6‐dihydro‐7H‐benzo[c]benzofuro[2,3‐e]azepin‐7‐ones from salicylaldehydes and 4‐diazoisoquinolin‐3‐ones has been developed. The Co(III)‐catalyzed reactions furnished benzofuro[2,3‐c]isoquinolines as major products, while the Rh(III)‐catalyzed reactions afforded 5,6‐dihydro‐7H‐benzo[c]benzofuro[2,3‐e]azepin‐7‐ones as major products.

Abstract:A novel method to synthesize 2,6-bis(p-aminophenyl)benzo[1,2-d;5,4-d′]bisoxazole using 1,2,3-trichlorobenzene as the starting material through nitration, substitution, hydrogenation, and condensation was reported. During the condensation, the influence of the amount of SnCl 2 on the yield of the product was studied. The electron spectra of the compound were discussed, the results showed that it is a fluorescence material with large Stokes shift.

Abstract:4,6-Diaminoresorcinol dihydrochloride was synthesized with 1,2,3-trichlorobenzene as the starting material through nitration,substitution and hydrogenation.2,6-Bis(p-aminophenyl)benzo[1,2-d;5,4-d′]-bisoxazole was synthesized by condensation of 4,6-diaminoresorcinol dihydrochloride with 4-aminobenzoic acid in polyphosphoric acid(PPA).The reaction temperature and system composition in condensation step were optimized.The total yield was 70%.

Abstract:In this strategy, the tetrasubstituted benzoquinones have been prepared directly by a [2+2+1+1] cyclocarbonylative coupling reaction of internal alkynes with CO in the presence of [RhCl(CO) 2 ] 2 . The low concentration of CO in the reaction is the crucial point for the chemoselective formation of tetrasubstituted benzoquinones in good to high yields. Functional groups such as chloro, methoxy, cyano, vinyl, fluoro, and carboxylate are tolerated under the reaction conditions.

Abstract:The 2,3‐dihydrobenzofuran ring systems are a privileged class of oxygen heterocycles, and their synthesis continues to attract considerable effort. Herein, a visible‐light‐driven photoredox‐catalyzed radical multicomponent cyclization of 2‐vinyl phenols, N ‐alkoxypyridinium salts, and sulfur ylides is described. Key to success of the reaction involves the use of both N ‐alkoxypyridinium salts and sulfur ylides as radical precursors. This redox‐neutral protocol features good functionality tolerance, easily available starting materials, simple operation, and mild reaction conditions, enabling modular synthesis of various 2,3‐disubstituted dihydrobenzofurans. Mechanistic studies have also elucidated some of the aspects associated with the key radical intermediates.

Abstract:A strategy for the syntheses of benzofuranoquinolines and its analogues via the irradiation of o-phenylfuranyl/thienylpyridines/pyrimidines in DCM with UV light at rt under an argon atmosphere is described. The mechanism of this reaction through the process of 6π-electrocyclization, [1,5]-hydrogen shift, and 1,3-eneamine tautomerism leading to H2 evolution was elucidated. Notably, the syntheses of cis-8b-methyl-8b,13a-dihydrobenzo[f]benzofuro[3,2-h]quinolone via the photoinduced rearrangement of 2-(3-methylbenzofuran-2-yl)-3-phenylpyridine relevant to the mechanism of this reaction highlights the importance of the developed methodology.
