Abstract:Using the 2,5-dimethyl-1,3,4-thiodiazole (L) ligand and bridging dicyanamide anion, a new CdII complex [Cd0.5(L)(H2O)(cyanourea)] [Cd(N(CN)2(H2O)]n (1) has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction. The fundamental structural unit of the title complex contains two CdII centers, two neutral free L ligands, two bridging dca anions, one bridging cyanourea ligand and three terminal coordinated aqua molecules. It is noted that the cyanourea ligands are not used as the starting materials and formed from dicyanamide simply by hydrolysis. To the best of our knowledge, cyanourea represents the first example to participate in the coordination of metal ions in coordination chemistry up to now.

Abstract:Several new 6-(1-aryl-5-methyl-1, 2, 3-triazol-4-yl)-3-(4-pyridyl)-s-triazolo[3,4-b]-1, 3, 4-thiadiazoles 3a-j have been synthesized by the condensation of 4-amino-5-mercapto-3-(4-pyridyl)-1, 2, 4-triazole 2 with 1-aryl-4-carboxy-5-methyl-1, 2, 3-triazoles 1a-j in the presence of phosphorus oxychloride. The structures of the products obtained are characterized by elemental analyses and spectral data and the fragmentation pattern of the mass spectra of 3a-j is discussed. 3a-j have been screened for their antibacterial activity against B. subtilis and E. coli.

Abstract:A series of novel 6-aryl-3-(1-p-chlorophenyl-5-methyl-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)-s-triazolo-[3,4-b]-1,3,4-thiadiazoles 6a-m have been synthesized in 49-64% yields by the cyclocondensation of 4-amino-3-(1-p-chlorophenyl-5-methyl-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole 5 with various aromatic acids in the presence of POCl3. Biological activity of 6a-m was studied.

Abstract:New C-functionalized dioxotetraamine macrocycles, which contained two independent chelating groups, were synthesized and characterized. At (25.0 +/- 0.1) degreesC, I=0.1 mol/L NaNO3, the thermodynamic properties of such supramolecular coordination compounds formed by the ligand with metal ions in aqueous solution were studied by pH titrations and structures of coordination species were also suggested.

Abstract:This study sheds light on the cleavage and reorganization of C(sp(3))-H and C= N bonds of carbodiimides in a three-component reaction of terminal alkynes, sulfur, and carbodiimides by a combination of methods including 1) isolation and X-ray analysis of sixmembered- ring lithium species 2-S, 2) trapping of the oxygen-analogues (B-O and D-O) of both four-membered- ring intermediate B-S and ringopening intermediate D-S, 3) deuterium labeling studies, and 4) theoretical studies. These results show that 1) the reaction rate-determining step is [2+ 2] cycloaddition, 2) the C= N bond cleavage takes place before C(sp(3))-H bond cleavage, 3) the hydrogen attached to C6 in 2-S originates from the carbodiimide, and 4) three types of new azaheterocycles, such as 1,2-dihydrothiopyrimidines, N-acyl 2,3-dihydropyrimidinthiones, and 1,2-dihydropyrimidinamino acids are constructed efficiently based on 2-S. All results strongly support the idea that the reaction proceeds through [2+ 2] cycloaddition/4p electrocyclic ring-opening/1,5-H shift/6p electrocyclic ring-closing as key steps. The research strategy on the synthesis, isolation, and reactivity investigation of important intermediates in metal-mediated reactions not only helps achieve an in-depth understanding of reaction mechanisms but also leads to the discovery of new synthetically useful reactions based on the important intermediates.

Abstract:A series of 2,3-biarylimino-1,4-dithiacyclohexane compounds were synthesized by the sufur-alkylation of N,N'-diaryldithiooxamide with 1,2-dibromoethane in the presence of bases. The reactions were completed in 4 h and the yields were 52%similar to 62%. The structures of the products were established by elemental analysis, IR, H-1 NMR, MS spectra and X-ray diffraction analysis.

Abstract:It has been reported previously that treatment of arylketone-derived arylsulfonylhydrazones with NXS/(nBu)4NX affords exclusively vinyl halides. In contrast, we have found that treatment of arylaldehyde-derived arylsulfonylhydrazones with N-chlorosuccinimide in the presence of potassium hydroxide affords 1,2,4,5-tetrazine derivatives in good to excellent yields. The present reactions are carried out under metal-free and mild reaction conditions.

Abstract:Two dicyanopyridine derivatived compounds (I) (C14H10N4) and (II) (C15H16N4) were synthesized with high yields from each reaction of benzylidene malononitrile with dichloride zinc directly in methanol or ethanol solvent . Both the compounds were characterized by NMR, IR, ESI, elemental analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Investigation of intermolecular interaction via Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates that these close contacts are mainly ascribed to N-H···N hydrogen bonding. Frontier molecular orbital and natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis shows that compound (I) and (II) possess a relatively higher kinetic stability. Abstract:Four new Cu(II) and Cd(II) coordination compounds, formulated as the {[Cu2(μ-cbpy)2(μ-cbpy)2(H2O)2]⋅2H2O}n (1), {[Cu(μ-cbpy)2]⋅2H2O}n (2), [Cu(cbpy)2(im)2]⋅4H2O (3) and [Cd(μ-cbpy)2(H2O)2]n (4) (H2cbpyBr: 3,5-dicarboxy-1-(3-cyanobenzyl)pyridin-1-ium bromide, im: imidazole) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Structural analysis indicates that compounds 1, 2 and 4 exhibit 2D layer structures which are are further linked into 3D supramolecular architectures through hydrogen bonding, C−H⋯O, C−N⋯π and π⋯π interactions whereas compound 3 exhibits mononuclear structure. The photoreaction property of compound 4 was investigated and it exhibited color change from pale yellow to dark yellow under 365 nm UV lamp. The thermal properties and phase purities of compounds 1–4 were investigated by thermal analyses (TG, DTA and DTA) and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) techniques.

Abstract:Exploring the microscopic reaction mechanism of dicyandiamide (DCD) synthesis using calcium cyanamide (CaCN2) is highly desirable because of the low conversion of reactants and selectivity of DCD products. DCD synthesis consists of a two-step sequential hydrolysis of CaCN2, followed by dimerization of cyanamide to DCD in an alkaline environment. Density functional theory (DFT) results revealed that the rate-limiting step (RLS) was the formation of a C-N bond between the cyanamide and cyanamide anion in the dimerization of the DCD reaction. Secondary reactions of cyanamide with water, hydrogen sulfide, and DCD were also analyzed. The effects of solvation on the principal and secondary reactions were systematically explored. A single explicit water molecule can significantly lower the free energy barrier of the RLS. Water molecules facilitate the C-N bonding of the reactants in DCD reactions, resulting in a reduction in the free energy barrier of the RLS. The facilitation of double explicit water for the reaction is weaker than that of single explicit water and even yields negative catalysis. The effect of the [OH(H2O)3]− cluster lowering the reaction barrier with the hydrogen-bonding network is the most remarkable, which can alter the reaction path by the direct and indirect involvement of OH− ions. Furthermore, the reaction rate constants were computed by canonical variational theory with the Eckart tunneling correction (CVT/Eckart) and fitted to the Arrhenius expression. The reaction mechanism and kinetics revealed at the microscopic level provide efficient and clean production of DCD with certain theoretical guidance.

Abstract:Thiocarbonyl dithiocyanate (1) and chlorothiocarbonyl thiocyanate (2) were synthesized from thiophosgene and ammonium or silver thiocyanate, respectivley. Their crystal structures show syn‐anti (1) and syn (2) conformations, which were confirmed in the bulk phases by powder X‐ray diffraction, vibrational spectroscopy and DFT calculations. Further calculations explain the isolation of the kintetic reaction products by a lower transition stateas opposed to the thermodynamic reaction products. Reaction of 1 with ethanol gave a dithiobiuret derivative (3). In a proof‐ofprinciple study we show that it in turn can be used for the complexation of Ni2+ (4).

Abstract:2-Cyclohexyloxycarbonylethyltin trichloride and its complexes with N, N-diethyldithiocarbamate, (CH2)(5)CHO COCH2CH2SnCl3-x[S2CN(Et)(2)](x) (x = 0, 1; 1, 2; 2, 3; 3, 4), were synthesized and characterized by the means of elemental analysis, IR, H-1 and C-13 NMR and X-ray single crystal diffraction. The crystal structure of complex 2 (monoclinic space group C2/c with unit cell parameters a = 1.90867 (17) nm, b = 0.67885 (8) nm, c = 3.1902 (3) nm, beta = 97.311 (7)degrees, Z = 8, mu = 1.715mm(-1), R = 0.0334) shows that the tin atom adopts a distorted octahedral geometry via the N, N-diethyldithiocarbamate ligand and intramolecular carbonyl oxygen to tin coordination. The spectral data suggest that intramolecular carbonyl oxygen to tin coordination in 1 is existent and is not allowed in order to accommodate two and three bidentate dithiocarbamate ligands in 3 and 4 respectively. Theoretical study for 2 indicates that AM1 semi-empirical calculations successfully predict the molecular geometries for these organotin compounds in the solid.

Abstract:Compounds 1-7 form a novel group of dithiocarbamates, first synthesized from the reaction of a series of primary amines with carbon disulfide and 3-bromo ethyl pyruvate in the presence of anhydrous potassium phosphate. Structure elucidation of this group of compounds was accomplished using extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic studies, including H-1, C-13, COSY, NOESY, HSQC, and gHMBC experiments. The distinction between the linear structures I, II and the cyclic structure III was made mainly on the basis of the analysis of the cross peak between H-2 and H-4a in the COSY spectra, in combination with the long-range correlation between H-2 and C-4, 6 in the gHMBC spectra. Abstract:The theoretical study investigates the [3 + 2] cycloaddition (32CA) reactions between C, N -diphenyl nitrilimine with 2,3,4,5-tetraphenylcyclopentadienone and benzonitrile oxide with 2,3,4,5-tetraphenylcyclopentadienone. Nitrilimines and nitrile oxides are dipoles used in the synthesis of several heterocyclic compounds, including spiropyrazoline oxindoles and isoxazolines. The derivatives of these compounds are found with different biological activities, such as ion channel blockers, anti-inflammatory and anticancer agents as well as antimalarial. Conceptual density functional theory (CDFT) analysis, along with the activation energies of the 32CA reaction between C, N- diphenyl nitrilimine with 2,3,4,5-tetraphenylcyclopentadienone, demonstrates concordance with the empirical findings. The 32CA reaction is found to proceed through a very polar single-step asynchronous mechanism. While deductions from the activation energies of the 32CA reaction between benzonitrile oxide and 2,3,4,5-tetraphenylcyclopentadienone are found to lead to the experimental product, the parr function analysis could not explain the observed chemo- and regioselectivity. This 32CA reaction is also found to proceed through a one-step asynchronous mechanism, though with a non-polar character. The modulation of substituents positioned at the reactive sites of the reactants is found to influence the kinetics, thermodynamics, and CDFT parameters of the two 32CA reactions, consequently impacting the observed selectivities.

Abstract:A new method for the in situ generation of five-membered diamidocarbenes (DACs 2) from 2,2-dichloroimidazolidine-4,5-diones is established by Cl/I exchange and elimination of iodine. The trapping of 2 with CuI, S, and Se provides a good route for the preparation of a dimeric (2a)CuI complex and 2-thioxo/selenoxoimidazolidine-4,5-diones, respectively. In contrast, Cl/F exchange is explored to yield exclusively 2,2-difluoroimidazolidine-4,5-diones.

Abstract:Functionalised dialkoxy-substituted tetraoxacalix[2]arene[2]triazine macrocycles 6 have been readily synthesised by the fragment coupling approach using methyl 3,5-dihydroxy-4-alkoxybenzoates and cyanuric chloride as the starting materials under very mild conditions. AlCl3-mediated deallylation and debenzylation reactions afforded the lower-rim dihydroxy-substituted tetraoxacalix[2]arene[2]triazine derivatives 11 and 13 in good yields. Although dialkoxy-substituted tetraoxacalix[2]arene[2]triazine macrocycles are fluxional in solution on the NMR spectroscopy timescale, they adopt a symmetric or slightly distorted 1,3-alternate conformation with the bridging oxygen atoms conjugated with the triazine rings. The dihydroxylated tetraoxacalix[2]arene[2]triazine 13b, which gives a mixture of monomer and dimer in solution according to a diffusion NMR spectroscopy study, adopts a 1,3-alternate conformation and forms a cyclic tetrameric assembly in the solid state due to the formation of intermolecular hydrogen-bonding networks. This dihydroxylated macrocyclic host molecule, a hydrogen-bond donor macrocycle with a V-shaped cleft, interacts with 2,2'-bipyridine, 4,4'-bipyridine and 1,10-phenanthroline guests. Although in solution they form the corresponding 1:1 complexes with binding constants ranging from 37.7 to 213 M-1, 2:2 host-guest complexes were observed in the crystalline state. Hydrogen-bonding interactions, along with other non-covalent interactions, such as lone-pair-electron-pi and C-H center dot center dot center dot pi interactions, were found to be the driving force for the formation of host-guest complexes.

Abstract:A series of lanthanocene derivatives containing the o-aminothiophenolate ligand have been synthesized, and their reactivities toward carbodiimide have been investigated. Reaction of N, N'-diisopropylcarbodiimide ((PrN)-Pr-i=(CdNPr)-Pr-i) with [Cp2Yb(o-H2NC6H4S)](2) (.) 2THF (Cp = C5H5) (1) yields a centrosymmetric dimer, [Cp(THF) Yb(mu-eta(3):eta(1)-SC6H4N=C((NHPr)-Pr-i) NiPr)](2) (2), indicating that the adjacent NH2 group can add to the C=N double bonds of carbodiimide and one cyclopentadienyl group is eliminated. [Cp2Dy(o-H2NC6H4S)](2) (.) 3THF, obtained by protolysis of Cp(3)Ln with o-aminothiophenol, reacts with 2 or 1 equiv of (PrN)-Pr-i=C=(NPr)-Pr-i in THF at room temperature to give the partial amino group addition product CpDy(THF)[mu-eta(3): eta(1)-SC6H4N=C((NHPr)-Pr-i)(NPr)-Pr-i)](mu-eta(2): eta 1-SC6H4NH2) DyCp2 (.) THF (4). When Cp3Dy reacts with o-aminothiophenol, and subsequently with (PrN)-Pr-i=C=(NPr)-Pr-i in toluene at room temperature, we isolated complex 4 and a small amount of [Cp2Dy(o-H2NC6H4S)](2) (.) 2THF (5) and [Cp(THF) Dy(mu-eta(3):eta(SC6H4NdC)-S-1(NHiPr) NiPr)](2) (6). Treatment of 2 equiv of (PrN)-Pr-i=C=(NPr)-Pr-i with 3 in THF under reflux temperature also gave 4; the residual NH2 group cannot continuously add into the C=N bonds of other carbodiimide molecules. Reaction of Cp3Er with 2 equiv of o-aminothiophenol and subsequently with 2 equiv of (PrN)-Pr-i=C=(NPr)-Pr-i in THF at room temperature yields the bis-addition product (C5H5) Er[SC6H4NC((NHPr)-Pr-i)(2)](2) (7). However, when Cp3Er reacts with 2 equiv of o-aminothiophenol, and subsequently with 1 equiv of (PrN)-Pr-i=C=(NPr)-Pr-i, the organic disulfide ((PrHN)-Pr-i)(2)CNC6H4SSC6H4NC((NHPr)-Pr-i)(2) (8) can be isolated. These results indicate that the addition of the adjacent amino group into the C=N double bonds of the carbodiimide molecule is strongly affected by the metal ion character and the steric hindrance of the ligands. All of the new compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopic properties. Their structures have also been determined through X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis.
