Abstract:It is well known that the Liénard system x˙=y−F(x), y˙=−g(x) with symmetry (i.e. F(x) and g(x) are odd functions) has a unique limit cycle under some hypotheses. In this paper we will show that the unique limit cycle locates in the strip region |x|0 is uniquely and directly determined by ∫0x⁎F(x)g(x)dx=0. In other words, an explicit upper bound x⁎ is given for the amplitude (i.e. the maximal value of the x-coordinate) of the unique limit cycle. As a simple application we obtain a uniform estimate A(μ)<5≐2.2361 for each μ>0, where A(μ) denotes the amplitude of the unique limit cycle in the Liénard system x˙=y−μ(x3/3−x), y˙=−x for the van der Pol equation x¨+μ(x2−1)x˙+x=0. The upper bound 5 improves the existing ones.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the polynomial Liénard differential system of arbitrary degree: x˙=y,y˙=a1x+a2x2m+(a3+a4x2n)y$$ \dot{x}=y, \ \dot{y}=a_1x+a_2x^{2\,m}+(a_3+a_4x^{2n})y $$ applying to a Duffing–Van der Pol oscillator. We prove that it has abundant dynamics, such as the generalized transcritical bifurcation, Hopf bifurcation, heteroclinic bifurcation, homoclinic bifurcation and double limit cycle bifurcation. The associated global bifurcation diagram in the parameter space and the corresponding global phase portraits in the Poincaré disc are presented. These analytic results are also demonstrated by concrete examples via numerical simulations.

Abstract:We study nonnegative solutions to the following Hardy-H´enon type equations involving higher order fractional Laplacians in R n 0 } which have a possible singularity at the origin, where σ is a real number satisfying 0 < σ < n/ 2 , −∞ < α < 2 σ and p > 1 . By a more direct approach without using the super poly-harmonic properties of nonnegative solutions, we establish an integral representation for nonnegative solutions to the above higher order fractional equations whether the singularity { 0 } is removable or not. As the ﬁrst application, we prove Liouville theorems for nonnegative solutions to the above equations with removable singularity for all σ ∈ (0 , n/ 2) when This, in particular, covers a gap occurring for non-integral σ ∈ (1 , n/ 2) and α ∈ (0 , 2 σ ) in the current literature. As the second application, we show the radial symmetry of nonnegative solutions to the above equations in the critical case or in the case where the singularity at the origin is not removable. Such radial symmetry would be useful in studying the higher order singular Yamabe problems and characterizing isolated singularities of the higher order Hardy-H´enon equations.

Abstract:We study nonnegative solutions to the following Hardy-Hénon type equations involving higher order fractional Laplacians $$ (-\Delta)^\sigma u = |x|^{-\alpha}u^{p} ~~~~~~ \mbox{in} ~ \mathbb{R}^n \backslash \{0\} $$ with a possible singularity at the origin, where $\sigma$ is a real number satisfying $0 < \sigma < n/2$, $-\infty < \alpha < 2\sigma$ and $p>1$. Abstract:The amplitude-frequency formulation is used to deal with the conservative nonlinear oscillator equation, one of analytic Lienard type equations for the amplitude-frequency relationship. Special location is found for the problem under discussion. The result is compared with those in open literature, and reveals that the Zero-th step of the variational iteration method can be utilized. The convenience and efficiency about the method used are confirmed once more.

By establishing an equivalent integral equation, we give a lower bound of the Kelvin transformation . Then, by constructing a new comparison function, we apply the maximum principle based on comparisons and the method of moving planes to obtain that u only depends on x n . Based on this, we prove the non-existence of non-negative solutions.

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with the critical order Hénon-Lane-Emden type equations with Navier boundary condition on a half space $\mathbb{R}^n_+$: \begin{equation}\label{NPDE0}\\\begin{cases} (-\Delta)^{\frac{n}{2}} u(x)=f(x,u(x)),\ u(x)\geq0,\ x\in\mathbb{R}^{n}_+, \\ u=(-\Delta)u = \cdots = (-\Delta)^{\frac{n}{2}-1}u = 0,\ x\in\partial\mathbb{R}^{n}_+, \end{cases}\end{equation} where $u\in C^{n}(\mathbb{R}^{n}_+)\cap C^{n-2}(\overline{\mathbb{R}^{n}_+})$ and $n\geq2$ is even. We first consider the typical case $f(x,u)=|x|^{a}u^{p}$ with $0\leq a<\infty$ and $1<p<\infty$. We prove the super poly-harmonic properties and establish the equivalence between (0.1) and the corresponding integral equations \begin{equation}\label{IE0} u(x)=\int_{\mathbb{R}^{n}_+}G(x,y)f(y,u(y))dy, \end{equation} where $G(x,y)$ denotes the Green's function for $(-\Delta)^{\frac{n}{2}}$ on $\mathbb{R}^n_+$ with Navier boundary conditions. Then, we establish Liouville theorem for (0.2) via ``the method of scaling spheres" developed initially in \cite{DQ0} by Dai and Qin, and hence we obtain the Liouville theorem for (0.1) on $\mathbb{R}^n_+$. As an application of the Liouville theorem on $\mathbb{R}^n_+$ (Theorem 1.6) and Liouville theorems in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ established in Chen, Dai and Qin [4] for $n\geq4$ and Bidaut-Véron and Giacomini [1] for $n=2$, we derive a priori estimates and existence of positive solutions to critical order Lane-Emden equations in bounded domains for all $n\geq2$ and $1<p<\infty$. Extensions to IEs and PDEs with general nonlinearities $f(x,u)$ are also included.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to give a sufficient and necessary condition of the generalized polynomial Liénard system with a global center (including linear typer and nilpotent type). Recently, Llibre and Valls [J. Differential Equations, 330 (2022), 66-80] gave a sufficient and necessary condition of the generalized polynomial Liénard system with a linear type global center. It is easy to see that our sufficient and necessary condition is more easy by comparison. In particular, we provide the explicit expressions of all the generalized polynomial Liénard differential systems of degree 5 having a global center at the origin and the explicit expression of a generalized polynomial Liénard differential system of indefinite degree having a global center at the origin.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a fractional elliptic system with indefinite nonlinearities. We prove that every positive bounded solution of the system is monotone increasing along x1 direction by using the direct method of moving planes. Based on this monotonicity, we obtain the nonexistence of positive solutions and a Liouville type results for the fractional elliptic system. As an application, we get the Liouville type results for the fractional elliptic system with cubic nonlinearities.

Abstract:We apply Kovacic's algorithm from differential Galois theory to show that all complex non-oscillatory solutions (finite exponential of convergence of zeros) of certain Hill equations considered by Bank and Laine using Nevanlinna theory must be Liouvillian solutions. That is, solutions are obtainable by suitable differential field extensions construction. In particular, we have established a full correspondence between solutions of non-oscillatory type and Liouvillian solutions for a particular Hill equation. Explicit closed-form solutions are obtained via both methods for this Hill equation whose potential has four exponential functions in the Bank-Laine theory. The differential equation is a periodic form of biconfluent Heun equation. We further show that these Liouvillian solutions exhibit novel single and double orthogonality and a Fredholm integral equation over suitable integration regions in $\mathbf{C}$ that mimic single/double orthogonality for the corresponding Liouvillian solutions of the Lamé and Whittaker-Hill equations, discovered by Whittaker and Ince almost a century ago.
