Abstract:In this technical note, a robust adaptive control scheme is proposed based on backstepping techniques for a class of nonlinear systems with unknown parameters. A modeling error may also exist in every state equation or channel and it is bounded by a known function which is allowed to depend on all system states. It is shown that the proposed adaptive control scheme can ensure all signals in the closed-loop system bounded, if the strength of system modeling errors is sufficiently weak. Transient performance is also established. Thus stabilizing systems in classical strict-feedback forms with sufficiently small non-triangular structural perturbations is successfully addressed. In the case that system parameters are known, a non-adaptive robust controller is designed to globally exponentially stabilize such a class of nonlinear systems. Finally simulation studies are used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Abstract:In this paper, the discontinuous projection-based adaptive robust control (ARC) approach is extended to a class of nonlinear systems subjected to parametric uncertainties as well as all three types of nonlinear uncertainties-uncertainties could be state-dependent, time-dependent, and/or dynamic. Departing from the existing robust adaptive control approach, the proposed approach differentiates between dynamic uncertainties with and without known structural information. Specifically, adaptive robust observers are constructed to eliminate the effect of dynamic uncertainties with known structural information for an improved steady-state output tracking performance-asymptotic output tracking is achieved when the system is subjected to parametric uncertainties and dynamic uncertainties with known structural information only. In addition, dynamic normalization signals are introduced to construct ARC laws to deal with other uncertainties including dynamic uncertainties without known structural information not only for global stability but also for a guaranteed robust performance in general. Abstract:Hysteresis nonlinearity exists in many physical actuators and actuator failures seem inevitable in practice. However, there is still no result available to compensate for failures of hysteric actuators in the design of controllers based on adaptive approaches. In this paper, we address such a problem by considering controlling a class of unknown nonlinear systems with multiple hysteric actuators. Two schemes are presented to design control signals for these actuators. Both schemes can accommodate uncertain patterns, values and time of actuator failures, in addition to system parametric uncertainties. It is shown that the designed controllers can compensate for failure and hysteresis effects of the actuators in the sense that system stability and tracking performance are maintained no matter whether this is any actuator failure or not.

Abstract:Based on Lyapunov method,a nonlinear robust adaptive control scheme is proposed for an electro-hydraulic system to reduce the influence of the systems uncertain parameters and uncertain model.Firstly,the control objective function is defined.Then,on the base of the control objective function,the adaptive controller and the parameters update laws are presented via using Lyapunov stability method and a simple robust method is introduced to compensate the model uncertainty.The proposed control scheme is simple and insensitive to parameter and model uncertainties.In addition,the controller is smooth and does not cause chattering phenomena.Simulation results show that the control approach can improve tracking accuracy effectively and the theory analysis is correct.

Abstract:This article is concerned with a composite adaptive robust control (CARC) for non‐strict feedback nonlinear systems with model uncertainties including parametric uncertainties and uncertain nonlinearities. It is assumed that the model uncertainties of the nonlinear system are bounded but unknown. Firstly, prescribed tracking performance is achieved by the CARC control law even the unknown parameters are time‐varying. This is accomplished firstly by designing a discontinuous projection that confines the unknown parameters in an estimated region. Then the robustness of the closed‐loop system is guaranteed by leveraging the deterministic robust control philosophy. Also, a command filter has been designed to avoid computing complex derivatives of virtual control law in the backstepping procedure. Secondly, a composite adaptation law that intelligently integrates information of both tracking error and prediction error is constructed for improving the performance of controllers. The high adaptation gain of CARC leads to higher parameter convergence speed and smaller tracking errors. Moreover, if the actual parameters are within the design range, asymptotic stability can be achieved in presence of parametric uncertainties only. In addition, exponential convergence of tracking errors and parameters can be shown under certain conditions. Finally, numerical examples are made to validate the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Abstract:Combining the adaptive Backstepping with the sliding mode control, we present a robust adaptive controller for a class of MIMO uncertain nonlinear systems. The model contains three forms of model uncertainty: 1) parametric uncertainty; 2) uncertainty in the input gains; 3) bounded uncertain functions which represent unmodelled dynamics and disturbances. The results of numerical simulation for the output tracking control of nonholonomic mobile manipulators are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:Aimed at chaos anti-control of a class of nonlinear system with uncertainties,an inverse system method of robust chaos anti-control was put forward.Adaptive inverse chaos anti-control was realized by tracking differentiators,integrating inverse system and filtering.After states of reference chaos system and the controlled system were obtained through tracking differentiators,the expected dynamic system was designed according to tracking performance demands,and certain order inverse of the controlled system was constructed by using inverse system theory.A filter was designed based on the requirements of magnitude,phase adjustments and noise cancellation,and the controlled system states were forced to track the states of reference chaos system.The results show that the dynamic uncertainties of the controlled system can be determined precisely in real-time by the output tracking differentiator precisely.The controller design is free of the constraints of Lyapunov exponents' allocation and the model of the controlled system.

Abstract:A kind of nonlinear system with unknown structure and parameters in the presence of external disturbances is considered.We treat this type of nonlinear system as a time-varying system with a linear structure,and propose for it an adaptive robust control law which consists of the adaptive model compensation,the stabilization feedback and the robust feedback.It ensures that all signals in the closed-loop system to be bounded and the tracking errors being within a desired range.Theoretical analysis and simulation results validate the proposed controllers.

Abstract:The new chaos control method presented in this paper is useful for taking advantage of chaos. Based on sliding mode control theory, this paper provides a switching manifold controlling strategy of chaotic system, and also gives a kind of adaptive parameters estimated method to estimate the unknown systems' parameters by which chaotic dynamical system can be synchronized. Taking the Lorenz system as example, and with the help of this controlling strategy, we can synchronize chaotic systems with unknown parameters and different initial conditions.

Abstract:The control problems of chaotic systems are investigated in the presence of parametric uncertainty and persistent external disturbances based on nonlinear control theory. By using a designed nonlinear compensator mechanism, the system deterministic nonlinearity, parametric uncertainty and disturbance effect can be compensated effectively. The renowned chaotic Lorenz system subjected to parametric variations and external disturbances is studied as an illustrative example. From the Lyapunov stability theory, sufficient conditions for choosing control parameters to guarantee chaos control are derived. Several experiments are carried out, including parameter change experiments, set-point change experiments and disturbance experiments. Simulation results indicate that the chaotic motion can be regulated not only to steady states but also to any desired periodic orbits with great immunity to parametric variations and external disturbances.

Abstract:In order to realize chaos robust anti-control of a class of nonlinear system with uncertainties,a nonlinear proportional integral differential(NPID) control method was put forward.Differential signals of the driving chaos system and the controlled system were obtained by tracking differentiator and numerical differentiator.NPID controller was constructed with the principle that the integral of time-weighted absolute error(ITAE) was minimum,so that the available differential signals could be used to force the output of controlled system to follow the chaotic trajectory of the given driving system.Using this method,chaos anti-control was not only extended from discrete system to continuous system but also from linear stable continuous system with clear structure and parameters to nonlinear systems with uncertainties of structure and parameters.Analysis and simulation results show that differential signals of the driving chaos system and the controlled system can be obtained precisely,and the suggested controller design method is free of the constraints of Lyapunov exponents allocation which is often difficult to get.

Abstract:SummaryA new robust adaptive iterative learning control approach is proposed for discrete‐time nonlinear systems with both parametric and nonparametric uncertainties. By virtue of a well‐designed dead‐zone function, the learning of the parametric and nonparametric uncertainties can be performed concurrently. Rigorous Lyapunov function‐based analysis ensures that the effect of system uncertainties can be fully compensated, and the tracking error will converge to zero asymptotically in the iteration domain, even under random initial conditions and iteration‐varying reference trajectories. Abstract:In this paper, an event-triggered adaptive control approach is proposed to control a class of discrete-time uncertain nonlinear systems, based on the backstepping adaptive control and the fixed threshold strategy. The designed event-triggered adaptive control can guarantee that all the closed-loop signals are globally bounded and the tracking error converges to a compact set. Simulation results are given to illustrate the performance and effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:An adaptive robust control algorithm is developed for a class of nonlinear dynamic system with unknown input backlash, parametric uncertainties, un-modeled dynamics and uncertain disturbances. A globally linearly parameterized model with bounded modelling error for backlash is presented. The adaptive robust controller is designed, which is composed of model compensation, feedback stabilization and robust feedback terms. The transient dynamic error and steady state error performance are given. The proposed adaptive robust control law can ensure that all closed-loop signals are bounded and achieve the tracking within the desired precision. Simulations results show the effectiveness of the controller.

Abstract:In this paper, an adaptive control scheme is established for nonlinear systems with sinusoidal uncertainties from the perspective of internal model principle. We propose to embed the controller with a dynamic compensator which plays the role of an internal model for reproducing the unknown sinusoidal parameter. For linearly parameterized systems, under some full-information stabilizability assumptions, internal-model-based controllers are developed, rendering the closed-loop system trajectories to be bounded and the plant states to be asymptotically convergent to zero. Further, we extend the proposed internal-model-based control scheme to nonlinearly parameterized systems with a (strictly) monotonic assumption. Two simulation examples are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed schemes.

Abstract:A backstepping design procedure is proposed for a class of nonlinear system with unknown parameters and dynamic uncertainties. A robust adaptive control algorithm is derived by recursive design approach. It is proved that under some assumptions, the derived robust adaptive controller guarantees global stability of the closed system and global uniformly ultimate boundedness property for all states of the closed system. Finally a simulational example is presented and the result demonstrates the controller′s effectiveness and feasibilities.

Abstract:The chaos control of uncertain unified chaotic systems is considered. Cascade adaptive control approach with only one control input is presented to stabilize states of the uncertain unified chaotic system at the zero equilibrium point. Since an adaptive controller based on dynamic compensation mechanism is employed, the exact model of the unified chaotic system is not necessarily required. By choosing appropriate controller parameters, chaotic phenomenon can be suppressed and the response speed is tunable. Sufficient condition for the asymptotic stability of the approach is derived. Numerical simulation results confirm that the cascade adaptive control approach with only one control signal is valid in chaos control of uncertain unified chaotic systems.

Abstract:This work develops a new direct adaptive control framework that extends the certainty equivalence principle to general nonlinear systems with unmatched model uncertainties. The approach adjusts the rate of adaptation online to eliminate the effects of parameter estimation transients on closed-loop stability. The method can be immediately combined with a previously designed or learned feedback policy if a corresponding model-parameterized Lyapunov function or contraction metric is known. Simulation results of various nonlinear systems with unmatched uncertainties demonstrates the approach.
