Abstract:Further geometry and topology for pseudo-holomorphic curves in complex Grassmannians Gn(CN) are studied. Some curvature pinching theorems for pseudo-holomorphic curves with constant Kahler angles in G(m)(C-N) are obtained, so that the corresponding results for pseudo-holomorphic curves in complex projective spaces are generalized.
Deformations of Complex Orbifolds and the Period Maps

Abstract:We consider the deformations of complex orbifolds with the underlying smooth structures being fixed. As a corollary, we can prove that the deformations of a Calabi-Yau orbifold is unobstructed by using standard arguments. Then we consider the period map for a family of complex Kähler orbifolds. We prove that the period map is holomorphic, horizontal and consistent with our Kodaira-Spencer map.

Abstract:We study critical orbits and bifurcations within the moduli space M-2 of quadratic rational maps, f : P-1 -> P-1. We focus on the family of curves, Per(1)(lambda) subset of M-2 for lambda is an element of C, defined by the condition that each f is an element of Per(1)(lambda) has a fixed point of multiplier lambda. We prove that the curve Per(1)(lambda) contains infinitely many postcritically finite maps if and only if lambda = 0, addressing a special case of Baker and DeMarco ('Special curves and postcritically finite polynomials', Forum of Math. Pi 1 (2013), doi: 10.1017/fmp.2013.2; Conjecture 1.4). We also show that the two critical points of f define distinct bifurcation measures along Per(1)(lambda).

Abstract:Bifurcations within holomorphic families of rational maps on the Riemann sphere are well understood since the works of Mañé-Sad-Sullivan and, independently, Lyubich in the eighties. Their techniques are however totally inoperant in a higher dimensional setting and one has therefore to adopt a different approach. For holomorphic families of endomorphisms on P this has been done in a joint work with Fabrizio Bianchi and Christophe Dupont. Our point of view on bifurcation phenomena combines ergodic and pluripotential-theoretic tools. In particular the Lyapunov exponents of the maximal entropy measure play an important role. Degenerate homoclinic bifurcations in complex dimension 2

Abstract:Unfolding homoclinic tangencies is the main source of bifurcations in 2-dimensional (real or complex) dynamics. When studying this phenomenon, it is common to assume that tangencies are quadratic and unfold with positive speed. Adapting to the complex setting an argument of Takens, we show that any 1-parameter family of 2-dimensional holomorphic diffeomorphisms unfolding an arbitrary non-persistent homoclinic tangency contains such quadratic tangencies. Combining this with recent results of Avila-Lyubich-Zhang and former results in collaboration with Lyubich, this yields the abundance of robust homoclinic tangencies in the bifurcation locus for complex Hénon maps. We also study bifurcations induced by families with persistent tangencies, which provide another approach to the complex Newhouse phenomenon.

Bifurcation loci of families of finite type meromorphic maps

Abstract:We show that $J-$ stability is open and dense in natural families of meromorphic maps of one complex variable with a finite number of singular values, and even more generally, to finite type maps. This extends the results of Mañé-Sad-Sullivan for rational maps of the Riemann sphere and those of Eremenko and Lyubich for entire maps of finite type of the complex plane, and essentially closes the problem of density of structural stability for holomorphic dynamical systems in one complex variable with finitely many singular values. This result is obtained as a consequence of a detailed study of a new type of bifurcation that arises with the presence of both poles and essential singularities (namely periodic orbits exiting the domain of definition of the map along a parameter curve), and in particular its relation with the bifurcations in the dynamics of singular values. The presence of these new bifurcation parameters require essentially different methods to those used in previous work for rational or entire maps.

Abstract:Let $f$ be an $n$-dimensional holomorphic map defined in a neighborhood of the origin such that the origin is an isolated fixed point of all of its iterates, and let ${\mathcal{N}}_{M}(f)$ denote the number of periodic orbits of $f$ of period $M$ hidden at the origin. Gorbovickis gives an efficient way of computing ${\mathcal{N}}_{M}(f)$ for a large class of holomorphic maps. Inspired by Gorbovickis’ work, we establish a similar method for computing ${\mathcal{N}}_{M}(f)$ for a much larger class of holomorphic germs, in particular, having arbitrary Jordan matrices as their linear parts. Moreover, we also give another proof of the result of Gorbovickis [On multi-dimensional Fatou bifurcation. Bull. Sci. Math.138(3)(2014) 356–375] using our method.

Abstract:We study bifurcations of symmetric elliptic fixed points in the case of p : q resonances with odd . We consider the case where the initial area-preserving map possesses the central symmetry, i. e., is invariant under the change of variables , . We construct normal forms for such maps in the case , where and are mutually prime integer numbers, and is odd, and study local bifurcations of the fixed point in various settings. We prove the appearance of garlands consisting of four -periodic orbits, two orbits are elliptic and two orbits are saddles, and describe the corresponding bifurcation diagrams for one- and two-parameter families. We also consider the case where the initial map is reversible and find conditions where nonsymmetric periodic orbits of the garlands are nonconservative (contain symmetric pairs of stable and unstable orbits as well as area-contracting and area-expanding saddles).

Abstract:We study the structure of solutions of the boundary-value problem where Δ2 is the biharmonic operator and B⊂R3 is the unit ball. We show that there are infinitely many turning points of the branch of the radial solutions of (0.1). The structure of solutions depends on the classification of the radial solutions of the equation This is in sharp contrast with the corresponding result in ℝ2.

Then for each factor m of M , the origin is again an isolated fixed point of f m and the fixed point index μ _f^m(0) of f m at the origin is well defined, and so is the (local) Dold’s index [Invent. Math. 74 (3), 419–435 (1983)] at the origin: P_M( f,0) = ∑_τ⊂ P(M)(-1)^#τμ _f^M:τ(0), where P ( M ) is the set of all primes dividing M , the sum extends over all subsets τ of P ( M ), #τis the cardinal number of τ and M: τ =M(∏_p∈τp)^-1 . P M ( f ,0) can be interpreted to be the number of periodic points of period M of f overlapped at the origin: any holomorphic mapping f_1: Δ ^n→ℂ^n sufficiently close to f has exactly P M ( f ,0) distinct periodic points of period M near the origin, provided that all the fixed points of f_1^M near the origin are simple. Note that f itself has no periodic point of period M near the origin if M > 1. According to Shub and Sullivan’s work [Topology 13 , 189–191(1974)] a necessary condition so that P M ( f ,0) ≠ 0 is that the linear part of f at the origin has a periodic point of period M . The goal of this paper is to prove that this condition is sufficient as well for holomorphic mappings.

If the origin 0 is an isolated fixed point of the $M$ th iteration $f^{M}$ of $f,$ then one can define the number $\mathcal{O}_{M}(f,0)$ of periodic orbits of $f$ with period $M$ hidden at the fixed point 0, which has the meaning: any holomorphic mapping $g:\Delta ^{2}\to \mathbb{C}^{2}$ sufficiently close to $f$ in a neighborhood of the origin has exactly $% \mathcal{O}_{M}(f,0)$ distinct periodic orbits with period $M$ near the origin, provided that all fixed points of $g^{M}$ near the origin are all simple. It is known that $\mathcal{O}_{M}(f,0)\geq 1$ iff the linear part of $f$ at the origin has a periodic point of period $M.$ This paper will continue to study the number $\mathcal{O}_{M}(f,0)$. We are interested in the condition for the linear part of $f$ at the origin such that $\mathcal{O}_{M}(f,0)\geq 2.$ For a $2\times 2$ matrix $A$ that is arbitrarily given, the goal of this paper is to give a necessary and sufficient condition for $A$,$ $such that $% \mathcal{O}_{M}(f,0)\geq 2$ for all holomorphic mappings $f:\Delta ^{2}\to \mathbb{C}^{2}$ such that $f(0)=0,$ $Df(0)=A$ and that the origin 0 is an isolated fixed point of $f^{M}.$
Bifurcations of mode-locked periodic orbits in three-dimensional maps

Abstract:In this paper, we report the bifurcations of mode-locked periodic orbits occurring in maps of three or higher dimensions. The `torus' is represented by a closed loop in discrete time, which contains stable and unstable cycles of the same periodicity, and the unstable manifolds of the saddle. We investigate two types of `doubling' of such loops: in (a) two disjoint loops are created and the iterates toggle between them, and in (b) the length of the closed invariant curve is doubled. Our work supports the conjecture of Gardini and Sushko, which says that the type of bifurcation depends on the sign of the third eigenvalue. We also report the situation arising out of Neimark-Sacker bifurcation of the stable and saddle cycles, which creates cyclic closed invariant curves. We show interesting types of saddle-node connection structures, which emerge for parameter values where the stable fixed point has bifurcated but the saddle has not, and vice versa.

Abstract:The conjugate locus of a point $p$ in a surface $\mathcal{S}$ will have a certain number of cusps. As the point $p$ is moved in the surface the conjugate locus may spontaneously gain or lose cusps. In this paper we explain this `bifurcation' in terms of the vanishing of higher derivatives of the exponential map; we derive simple equations for these higher derivatives in terms of scalar invariants; we classify the bifurcations of cusps in terms of the local structure of the conjugate locus; and we describe an intuitive picture of the bifurcation as the intersection between certain contours in the tangent plane.

Abstract:In this paper we consider families of holomorphic maps defined on subsets of the complex plane, and show that the technique developed in [24] to treat unfolding of critical relations can also be used to deal with cases where the critical orbit converges to a hyperbolic attracting or a parabolic periodic orbit. As before this result applies to rather general families of maps, such as polynomial-like mappings, provided some lifting property holds. Our Main Theorem states that either the multiplier of a hyperbolic attracting periodic orbit depends univalently on the parameter and bifurcations at parabolic periodic points are generic, or one has persistency of periodic orbits with a fixed multiplier.

Abstract:We study homoclinic bifurcations in an interval map associated with a saddle-focus of (2, 1)-type in $\mathbb{Z}_2$-symmetric systems. Our study of this map reveals the homoclinic structure of the saddle-focus, with a bifurcation unfolding guided by the codimension-two Belyakov bifurcation. We consider three parameters of the map, corresponding to the saddle quantity, splitting parameter, and focal frequency of the smooth saddle-focus in a neighborhood of homoclinic bifurcations. We symbolically encode dynamics of the map in order to find stability windows and locate homoclinic bifurcation sets in a computationally efficient manner. The organization and possible shapes of homoclinic bifurcation curves in the parameter space are examined, taking into account the symmetry and discontinuity of the map. Sufficient conditions for stability and local symbolic constancy of the map are presented. This study furnishes insights into the structure of homoclinic bifurcations of the saddle-focus map, furthering comprehension of low-dimensional chaotic systems.
