Abstract:Let $d_k(n) = \sum_{n_1 \cdots n_k = n}1$ be the $k$-fold divisor function. We call a function $f:\mathbb{N} \to \mathbb{C}$ a $d_k$-bounded multiplicative function, if $f$ is multiplicative and $|f(n)| \leq d_k(n)$ for every $n \in \mathbb{N}$. In this paper we improve Mangerel's results which extend the Matomäki-Radziwi{łł} theorem to divisor bounded multiplicative functions. In particular, we prove that for sufficiently large $X \geq 2$, any $\epsilon>0$ and $h \geq (\log X)^{k \log k - k + 1 + \epsilon}$ , we have $$ \frac{1}{h}\sum_{x<n\leq x+h}d_k(n)-\frac{1}{x}\sum_{x<n\leq 2x}d_{k}(n) = o(\log^{k-1} x) $$ for almost all $x \in [X,2X]$. We also demonstrate that the exponent $k \log k-k+1$ is optimal.

Abstract:For any positive integer n, the famous pseudo Smarandache function Z(n) is defined as the smallest positive integer m such that n | m(m+1)/2. The number theory function D(n) is defined as the smallest positive integer m such that n divides d(1)d(2)…d(m), where d(n) is the Dirichlet divisor function. The main purpose of this paper is using the elementary method and the properties of the pseudo Smarandache function Z(n) and number theory function D(n) to study the solvability of the equation 2Z(n) = D(n), and obtain its all positive integer solutions.

Abstract:Every positive integer $l \in \mathbb{N}$ can be formed $l = (m + n)d$, provided $gcd(m,n)=1$. From this point of view, the next formulas $n=\sum_{d|l} \varphi(d)$ and $\frac{n(n+1)}{2}=\sum_{k=1}^{n} \varphi(k)[\frac{n}{k}]$, and these equivalence had been proved. In this paper on an extension of these results, the next identity is proved: $\sum_{k=1}^{n} \sum_{\substack{(a+b)c=k \\ gcd(a,b)=1}} f(a,b)\cdot g(c) = \sum_{k=1}^{n} \sum_{\substack{a+b=k \\ gcd(a,b)=1}} f(a,b) \sum_{i\leq [\frac{n}{k}]} g(i) = \sum_{a+b \leq n} f(\frac{a}{gcd(a,b)},\frac{b}{gcd(a,b)})\cdot g(gcd(a,b))$. We also show the next formulas are corollaries of it: $\sum_{k=1}^{n} \tau(k)=\sum_{k=1}^{n} [\frac{n}{k}] = \sum_{a+b \leq n} \frac{1}{\varphi(\frac{a+b}{gcd(a,b)})}$, $\sum_{d|n} f(d)\cdot g(\frac{n}{d}) = \sum_{k = 1}^{n} f(gcd(k,n))\cdot\frac{g(\frac{n}{gcd(k,n)})}{\varphi(\frac{n}{gcd(k,n)})}$, $\tau(n)=\sum_{a+b = n} \frac{1}{\varphi(\frac{a+b}{gcd(a,b)})}$, $\sum_{\substack{a+b=n \\ gcd(a,b)=1}} gcd(a-1,b+1) = \sum_{a+b=n} \frac{\varphi(n)}{\varphi(\frac{n}{gcd(a,b)})}$, and so on. A generalization of the Titchmarsh divisor problem

Abstract:Let $d^{(k)}(n)$ be the $k$-free divisor function for integer $k\ge2$. Let $a$ be a nonzero integer. In this paper, we establish an asymptotic formula \begin{equation*} \sum_{p\leq x} d^{(k)}(p-a) =b_k \cdot x+O\left(\frac{x}{\log x}\right) \end{equation*} related to the Titchmarsh divisor problem, where $b_k$ is a positive constant dependent on $k$ and $a$. For the proof, we apply a result of Felix and show a general asymptotic formula for a class of arithmetic functions including the unitary divisor function, $k$-free divisor function and the proper Pillai's function.

Abstract: Let $d(n; r_1, q_1, r_2, q_2)$ be the number of factorization $n=n_1n_2$ satisfying $n_i\equiv r_i\pmod{q_i}$ ($i=1,2$) and $\Delta(x; r_1, q_1, r_2, q_2)$ be the error term of the summatory function of $d(n; r_1, q_1, r_2, q_2)$ with $x\geq (q_1q_2)^{1+\varepsilon}, 1\leq r_i\leq q_i$, and $(r_i, q_i)=1$ ($i=1, 2$). We study the power moments and sign changes of $\Delta(x; r_1, q_1, r_2, q_2)$, and prove that for a sufficiently large constant $C$, $\Delta(q_1q_2x; r_1, q_1, r_2, q_2)$ changes sign in the interval $[T,T+C\sqrt{T}]$ for any large $T$. Meanwhile, we show that for a small constant $c'$, there exist infinitely many subintervals of length $c'\sqrt{T}\log^{-7}T$ in $[T,2T]$ where $\pm \Delta(q_1q_2x; r_1, q_1, r_2, q_2)> c_5x^\frac{1}{4}$ always holds.

Abstract:We introduce and study the recursive divisor function, a recursive analog of the usual divisor function: $\kappa_x(n) = n^x + \sum_{d\lfloor n} \kappa_x(d)$, where the sum is over the proper divisors of $n$. We give a geometrical interpretation of $\kappa_x(n)$, which we use to derive a relation between $\kappa_x(n)$ and $\kappa_0(n)$. For $x \geq 2$, we observe that $\kappa_x(n)/n^x < 1/(2-\zeta(x))$. We show that, for $n \geq 2$, $\kappa_0(n)$ is twice the number of ordered factorizations, a problem much studied in its own right. By computing those numbers that are more recursively divisible than all of their predecessors, we recover many of the numbers prevalent in design and technology, and suggest new ones which have yet to be adopted.

Sums of powers of integers via differentiation

Abstract:For integer $k \geq 0$, let $S_k$ denote the sum of the $k$th powers of the first $n$ positive integers $1^k + 2^k + \cdots + n^k$. For any given $k$, the power sum $S_k$ can in principle be determined by differentiating $k$ times (with respect to $x$) the associated exponential generating function $\sum_{k=0}^{\infty}S_k x^k/k!$, and then taking the limit of the resulting differentiated function as $x$ approaches $0$. In this paper, we exploit this method to establish a couple of seemingly novel recurrence relations, one of them involving the even-indexed power sums $S_2, S_4,\ldots, S_{2k}$, and the other the odd-indexed power sums $S_{1}, S_3, \ldots, S_{2k-1}$, with both recurrence relations depending explicitly on the parameter $N = n + \frac{1}{2}$. From this, we obtain a determinantal formula of order $k$ which yields $S_{2k}$ [$S_{2k-1}$] in the Faulhaber form, that is, as an odd [even] polynomial in $N$. As a byproduct, we discover a new determinantal formula for the Bernoulli number $B_{2k}$. Furthermore, we show that $S_{2k}$ and $S_{2k-1}$ can be obtained by taking the corresponding higher order derivatives of the Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind.

Abstract:Let $\tau_k(n)$ be the $k$-th divisor function. In this paper, we derive an asymptotic formula for the sum $$ \sum_{1\leq n_1,n_2, \dots, n_{\ell}\leq X^{\frac{1}{r}} \atop 1\leq n_{\ell+1}\le X^{\frac{1}{s}}}\tau_k(n_1^r+n_2^r+\dots +n_{\ell}^r+n_{\ell+1}^s), $$ where $k\geq 4$, $r\geq 2$, $s\geq 2$ and $\ell\geq 2$ are integers. Previously only special cases are studied.

Abstract:For n = 1, 2, 3, ... define S(n) as the smallest integer m > 1 such that those 2k(k - 1) mod m for k = 1, ... , n are pairwise distinct; we show that S(n) is the least prime greater than 2n - 2 and hence the value set of the function S(n) is exactly the set of all prime numbers. For every n = 4, 5, ... , we prove that the least prime p > 3n with p equivalent to 1 (mod 3) is just the least positive integer m such that 18k(3k - 1) (k = 1, ... , n) are pairwise distinct modulo m. For d is an element of {4, 6, 12} and n = 3, 4, ... , we show that the least prime p >= 2n - 1 with p equivalent to -1 (mod d) is the smallest integer m such that those (2k - 1)(d) for k = 1, ... , n are pairwise distinct modulo m. We also pose several challenging conjectures on primes. For example, we find a surprising recurrence for primes, namely, for every n = 10, 11, ... the (n + 1)-th prime p(n+1) is just the least positive integer m such that 2s(k)(2) (k = 1, ..., n) are pairwise distinct modulo m where s(k) = Sigma(k)(j=1) (-1)(k-j) p(j). We also conjecture that for any positive integer m there are consecutive primes p(k), ... , p(n) (k < n) not exceeding 2m + 2.2 root m such that m = p(n) - p(n-1) + ... + (-1)(n-k) p(k). Abstract:For a finite system A {a(s) + n(s) Z}(s=1)(k) of arithmetic sequences the covering function is w(x) = \{1 less than or equal to s less than or equal to k : x = a(s) (mod n(s))}\. Using equalities involving roots of unity we characterize those systems with a fixed covering function w(x). Two New Kinds of Numbers and Related Divisibility Results

Abstract:We mainly introduce two new kinds of numbers given by R-n = Sigma(n)(k=0) ((n)(k)) ((n + k)(k)) 1/2k - 1 (n = 0,1,2,...), S-n = Sigma(n)(k=0) ((n)(k))(2) ((2k)(k)) (2k + 1) (n = 0,1,2,...). We find that such numbers have many interesting arithmetic properties. For example, if p 1 (mod 4) is a prime with p = x(2 )+ y(2) (where x 1 (mod 4) and y 0 (mod 2)), then R(p-1)/2 p - (-1)((p-1)/4)2x ( mod p(2)). Also, 1/n(2) Sigma(n-1)(k=0) S-k is an element of Z and 1/n Sigma(n-1)(k=0) S-k(x) is an element of Z[x] for all n = 1,2,..., where S-k(x) = Sigma(k)(j=0) ((k)(j))(2) ((2j)(j)) (2j + 1)x(j). For any positive integers a and n, we show that, somewhat surprisingly, 1/n(2) Sigma(n-1)(k=0)(2k + 1) ((n - 1)(k))(a) ((-n - 1)(k))(a) is an element of Z and 1/n Sigma(n-1)(k=0) ((n - 1)(k))(a) ((-n - 1)(k))(a)/4k(2) - 1 is an element of Z. We also solve a conjecture of V. J. W. Guo and J. Zeng, and pose several conjectures for further research.

Abstract:Let $3\leqslant k\leqslant9$ be a fixed integer, $p$ be a prime and $d(n)$ denote the Dirichlet divisor function. We use $\Delta(x)$ to denote the error term in the asymptotic formula of the summatory function of $d(n)$. The aim of this paper is to study the $k$-th power moments of $\Delta(p)$, namely $\sum_{p\leqslant x}\Delta^k(p)$, and we give an asymptotic formula.

Abstract:Let d⩾4 and c∈(−d,d) be relatively prime integers. We show that for any sufficiently large integer n (in particular n>24310 suffices for 4⩽d⩽36), the smallest prime p≡c(modd) with p⩾(2dn−c)/(d−1) is the least positive integer m with 2r(d)k(dk−c) (k=1,…,n) pairwise distinct modulo m, where r(d) is the radical of d. We also conjecture that for any integer n>4 the least positive integer m such that |{k(k−1)/2modm:k=1,…,n}|=|{k(k−1)/2modm+2:k=1,…,n}|=n is the least prime p⩾2n−1 with p+2 also prime.
On moments of the error term of the multivariable k-th divisor functions

Abstract:Suppose $k\geqslant3$ is an integer. Let $\tau_k(n)$ be the number of ways $n$ can be written as a product of $k$ fixed factors. For any fixed integer $r\geqslant2$, we have the asymptotic formula \begin{equation*} \sum_{n_1,\cdots,n_r\leqslant x}\tau_k(n_1 \cdots n_r)=x^r\sum_{\ell=0}^{r(k-1)}d_{r,k,\ell}(\log x)^{\ell}+O(x^{r-1+\alpha_k+\varepsilon}), \end{equation*} where $d_{r,k,\ell}$ and $0<\alpha_k<1$ are computable constants. In this paper we study the mean square of $\Delta_{r,k}(x)$ and give upper bounds for $k\geqslant4$ and an asymptotic formula for the mean square of $\Delta_{r,3}(x)$. We also get an upper bound for the third power moment of $\Delta_{r,3}(x)$. Moreover, we study the first power moment of $\Delta_{r,3}(x)$ and then give a result for the sign changes of it.

Abstract:For various arithmetic functions $f:\mathbb{N} \to \mathbb{R}$, the behavior of $f(n!)$ and that of $\sum_{n\le N} f(n!)$ can be intriguing. For instance, for some functions $f$, we have ${f(n!)=\sum_{k\le n}f(k)}$, for others, we have ${f(n!)=\sum_{p\le n}f(p)}$ (where the sum runs over all the primes $p\le n$). Also, for some $f$, their minimum order coincides with $\lim_{n\to \infty}f(n!)$, for others, it is their maximum order that does so. Here, we elucidate such phenomena and more generally, we embark on a study of $f(n!)$ and of $\sum_{n\le N}f(n!)$ for a wide variety of arithmetical functions $f$. In particular, letting $d(n)$ and $\sigma(n)$ stand respectively for the number of positive divisors of $n$ and the sum of the positive divisors of $n$, we obtain new accurate asymptotic expansions for $d(n!)$ and $\sigma(n!)$. Furthermore, setting $\rho_1(n):=\max\{d\mid n:d\le \sqrt n\}$ and observing that no one has yet obtained an asymptotic value for $\sum_{n\le N} \rho_1(n)$ as $N\to \infty$, we show how one can obtain the asymptotic value of $\sum_{n\le N} \rho_1(n!)$.

Abstract:For a fixed $z\in\mathbb{C}$ and a fixed $k\in\mathbb{N}$, let $\sigma_{z}^{(k)}(n)$ denote the sum of $z$-th powers of those divisors $d$ of $n$ whose $k$-th powers also divide $n$. This arithmetic function is a simultaneous generalization of the well-known divisor function $\sigma_z(n)$ as well as the divisor function $d^{(k)}(n)$ first studied by Wigert. The Dirichlet series of $\sigma_{z}^{(k)}(n)$ does not fall under the purview of Chandrasekharan and Narasimhan's fundamental work on Hecke's functional equation with multiple gamma factors. Nevertheless, as we show here, an explicit and elegant Vorono\"{\dotlessi} summation formula exists for this function. As its corollaries, some transformations of Wigert are generalized. The kernel $H_{z}^{(k)}(x)$ of the associated integral transform is a new generalization of the Bessel kernel. Several properties of this kernel such as its differential equation, asymptotic behavior and its special values are derived. A crucial relation between $H_{z}^{(k)}(x)$ and an associated integral $K_{z}^{(k)}(x)$ is obtained, the proof of which is deep, and employs the uniqueness theorem of linear differential equations and the properties of Stirling numbers of the second kind and elementary symmetric polynomials.

Generalized divisor functions in arithmetic progressions: I

Abstract:We prove some distribution results for the $k$-fold divisor function in arithmetic progressions to moduli that exceed the square-root of length $X$ of the sum, with appropriate constrains and averaging on the moduli, saving a power of $X$ from the trivial bound. On assuming the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, we obtain uniform power saving error terms that are independent of $k$. We follow and specialize Y.T. Zhang's method on bounded gaps between primes to our setting. Our arguments are essentially self-contained, with the exception on the use of Deligne's work on the Riemann Hypothesis for varieties over finite fields. In particular, we avoid the reliance on Siegel's theorem, leading to some effective estimates.
