Abstract:The authors give an algebraic method to add uniton numbers for harmonic maps from a simply connected domain Omega subset of or equal to R-2 boolean OR {infinity} into the unitary group U(N) with finite uniton number. So, it is proved that any n-uniton can be obtained from a 0-uniton by purely algebraic operations and integral transforms to solve the partial derivative-problem via two different ways.

Abstract:The factorization of harmonic maps from a simply-connected domain Omega subset of C boolean OR {infinity} to the unitary group is studied, showing that the theory of isotropic harmionic maps is equivalent to that of 2-unitons. Furthermore, a positive answer is given to the Uhlenbeck's conjecture on the upper bound of minimal uniton numbers.

Abstract:In the paper [2] the authors defined the singular Darboux transformations and established an explicit formula for constructing unitons from a simply connected Riemann surface M to the group U(N). The formula is obtained as a limit of an infinite consequence of Darboux transformations through some renormalization procedure. In the present paper the authors give a complete proof of the fact that the formula gives a global solution of harmonic maps without singularity

Abstract:In this work, we present a method of decomposition of arbitrary unitary matrix U∈U(2k)$$U\in \mathbf {U}(2^k)$$ into a product of single-qubit negator and controlled-NOT$$\sqrt{\text{ NOT }}$$ gates. Since the product results with negator matrix, which can be treated as complex analogue of bistochastic matrix, our method can be seen as complex analogue of Sinkhorn–Knopp algorithm, where diagonal matrices are replaced by adding and removing an one-qubit ancilla. The decomposition can be found constructively, and resulting circuit consists of O(4k)$$O(4^k)$$ entangling gates, which is proved to be optimal. An example of such transformation is presented.

Coon unitarity via partial waves or: how I learned to stop worrying and love the harmonic numbers

Abstract:We present a novel approach to partial-wave unitarity that bypasses a lot of technical difficulties of previous approaches. In passing, we explicitly demonstrate that our approach provides a very suggestive form for the partial-wave coefficients in a natural way. We use the Coon amplitudes to exemplify this method and show how it allows to make important properties such as partial-wave unitarity manifest.

Abstract:For a commutative finite $\mathbb{Z}$-algebra, i.e., for a commutative ring $R$ whose additive group is finitely generated, it is known that the group of units of $R$ is finitely generated, as well. Our main results are algorithms to compute generators and the structure of this group. This is achieved by reducing the task first to the case of reduced rings, then to torsion-free reduced rings, and finally to an order in a reduced ring. The simplified cases are treated via a calculation of exponent lattices and various algorithms to compute the minimal primes, primitive idempotents, and other basic objects. All algorithms have been implemented and are available as a SageMath package. Whenever possible, the time complexity of the described methods is tracked carefully.

Abstract:We have experimentally observed a new phenomenon in the surface flow of a granular material. A heap is constructed by injecting sand between two vertical glass plates separated by a distance much larger than the average grain size, with an open boundary. As the heap reaches the open boundary, "soliton-like" fluctuations appear on the flowing layer, and move "up the hill" (i.e., against the direction of the flow). We explain the phenomenon in the context of stop-and-go traffic models, and show that soliton-like behavior is allowed within a Saint-Venant description for the granular flow.

Construction of factorizable Hopf algebras

Abstract:We focus on the problem of producing new modular tensor categories from Hopf algebras. To do this, we first give a general method to construct factorizable Hopf algebras. Then we apply the method to construct two families of ribbon factorizable Hopf algebras which are not quantum groups or Drinfel'd double. One family are point Hopf algebras which give non-semisimple modular tensor categories, while the other family are C^*-Hopf algebras which give new unitary modular tensor categories. Lastly, we determine the fusion rings of these unitary modular tensor categories.

Abstract:We investigate two constructive approaches to defining quasi-compact and quasi-separated schemes (qcqs-schemes), namely qcqs-schemes as locally ringed lattices and as functors from rings to sets. We work in Homotopy Type Theory and Univalent Foundations, but reason informally. The main result is a constructive and univalent proof that the two definitions coincide, giving an equivalence between the respective categories of qcqs-schemes.

Abstract:We present an algebraic framework to study the time-optimal synthesis of arbitrary unitaries in SU(2), when the control set is restricted to rotations around two non-parallel axes in the Bloch sphere. Our method bypasses commonly used control-theoretical techniques, and easily imposes necessary conditions on time-optimal sequences. In a straightforward fashion, we prove that time-optimal sequences are solely parametrized by three rotation angles and derive general bounds on those angles as a function of the relative rotation speed of each control and the angle between the axes. Results are substantially different whether both clockwise and counterclockwise rotations about the given axes are allowed, or only clockwise rotations. In the first case, we prove that any finite time-optimal sequence is composed at most of five control concatenations, while for the more restrictive case, we present scaling laws on the maximum length of any finite time-optimal sequence. The bounds we find for both cases are stricter than previously published ones and severely constrain the structure of time-optimal sequences, allowing for an efficient numerical search of the time-optimal solution. Our results can be used to find the time-optimal evolution of qubit systems under the action of the considered control set, and thus potentially increase the number of realizable unitaries before decoherence.

Abstract:We introduce a method for producing vector-valued automorphic forms on unitary groups from scalar-valued ones. As an application, we construct an explicit example. Our strategy employs certain differential operators. It is inspired by work of Cléry and van der Geer in the setting of Siegel modular forms, but it also requires overcoming challenges that do not arise in the Siegel setting.

Abstract:We present an exact synthesis algorithm for qutrit unitaries in $\mathcal{U}_{3^n}(\mathbb{Z}[1/3,e^{2\pi i/3}])$ over the Clifford$+T$ gate set with at most one ancilla. This extends the already known result of qutrit metaplectic gates being a subset of Clifford$+T$ gate set with one ancilla. As an intermediary step, we construct an algorithm to convert 3-level unitaries into multiply-controlled gates, analogous to Gray codes converting 2-level unitaries into multiply-controlled gates. Finally, using catalytic embeddings, we present an algorithm to exactly synthesize unitaries $\mathcal{U}_{3^n}(\mathbb{Z}[1/3,e^{2\pi i/9}])$ over the Clifford$+T$ gate set with at most 2 ancillas. This, in particular, gives an exact synthesis algorithm of single-qutrit Clifford$+\mathcal{D}$ over the multi-qutrit Clifford$+T$ gate set with at most two ancillas.

Matrix units in the simple components of rational group algebras

Abstract:For the rational group algebra $\mathbb{Q}G$ of a finite group $G$, we provide an effective method to compute a complete set of matrix units and, in particular, primitive orthogonal idempotents in a simple component of $\mathbb{Q}G$, which is realized by a generalized strongly monomial character and has a prime Schur index. We also provide some classes of groups $G$ where this method can be successfully applied. The application of the method developed is also illustrated with detailed computations.

In this paper, we propose a concrete construction of a topological operator in their formulation. We focus on a shift symmetry of a one-dimensional massless scalar theory. And we give some discussions of $\mathbb{Z}$-gauging of it, i.e., compact scalar theory and its $\theta$-vacuum.
