Abstract:The title compound, (1R,2R,3R,5S)-3-(3-chlorophenyl)-1-hydroxy-2-methyl-6-phenyl-8-oxa-6-azabicyclo[3.2.1]octan-7-one, was synthesized and characterized by H-1 and C-13 NMR and HRMS spectroscopy. Its absolute molecular configuration was investigated by X-ray crystallography. The crystal structure analysis revealed that the structure exhibits intermolecular hydrogen bonds of the type O-H horizontal ellipsis O. The methyl group and chlorophenyl group are located in the cis configuration. The conformation is stabilized by weak intermolecular C-H... O interactions.

Abstract:The title complex has been Prepared and its crystal structure determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/c. Cu(II) assumes 1 square pyramidal coordination geometry, formed by two isonicontinate anions, it bipyridinc ligand and a coordinated water molecule. Each isonicotinate bridges two Cu atoms through pyridine-N and carboxyl-O atoms, respectively, to form zigzag polymeric chains. Between the polymeric chains, aromatic stacking and hydrogen bonding are observed.

Abstract:Poly(aryl imino) containing biphenyl group was synthesized by the condensation polymerization of 4,4'-Dibromobiphenyl and aromatic diamines via Palladium-catalyzed aryl amination reaction The structure of the polymers synthesized was characterized by means of FT-IR,1H-NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis,and the testing results show a good agreement with the proposed structure.DSC and TG measurements showed that the polymers possess good thermal stability(Tg>250℃;TD>510℃).

Abstract:A series of sulfonated polybenzimidazoles (SPBI) was prepared via the condensation polymerization of 1,4-bis(4-carboxyphenoxy) bezene-2-sulfonate, 4,4'-dicarboxydiphenyl ether and 3,3'-diaminobenzidine in phosphorous pentoxide/methanesulfonic acid in a mass ratio of 1:10. The structures and properties of sulfonated polybenzimidazoles were confirmed by FTIR, NMR and TGA. The show good solubility in polar solvents, high thermal stability, good film forming ability and excellent mechanical properties.

Abstract:The reaction conditions of the phenolic hydroxyl group with di-isocyanate were studied in the solvent N, N-dimethyl acetamide (DMAc). The liquid-crystalline polyurethanes were synthesized by the solvent-copolymerization of 2,4-TDI with 4,4��-biphenol and 1, 4-butanediol, then their liquid crystalline properties were investigated by polarized optical microscope (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD). And the result shows the synthesized polyurethanes display nematic phase with wide liquid crystalline ranges.

Abstract:The novel poly(aryl ether ketone)s with liquid crystallinity were synthesized by nucleophilic substitution reactions of 4,4'-biphenol and substituted hydroquinone with 4,4'-difluorobenzophenone and their thermotropic liquid crystalline properties were characterized by DSC, PLM and WAXD, The copolymers containing 70% biphenol formed nematic phase while the copolymer containing 50% biphenol exhibited smectic texture, The banded textures were formed after shearing the sample in the nematic liquid crystalline state. The identification of the structures in each mesogenic phase has been carried out by combining WAXD with PLM and DSC.

Abstract:A novel polyimide containing alkyl sulphide structure was synthesized through polymerization of 4,4'-diamino diphenyl sulphide(SDA) and 3,3′,4,4′-biphenyl-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride(BPDA) by thermal imidization and chemical imidization.A real-time online tracing method was built up by using the advanced rheology expanded systems(ARES),as well as the effects of reaction conditions to the thermal and chemical imidization by thermogravimetic analysis,which provided more efficient methods for preparing high performance polyimide.The structures and properties of the polyimide were characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),small angle laser light scattering(SALS),contact angle analysis and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) etc.The results showed that the surface properties of polyimide films were great improved by introducing the alkyl sulphide structure into the main chain of polyimide,which exhibited similar surface tension with copper foil,and higher adhesion work between the new polyimide and copper foil than the traditional one.The absolute weight-average molecular weight of the polyimide was determined to be(3.8±1.1)×104 g/mol;the decomposition temperature was higher than 560 ℃.The DSC results showed that the polyimides by both thermal and chemical imidization were with high glass transition temperature.In comparison,chemical imidization was beneficial to getting high degree of imidization,resulting in higher glass transition temperature.

Abstract:Poly(l-pentyne)s containing biphenyl and phthalimido pendant groups with different spacer lengths {P1(m); -[HC=C(CH2)(3)O-Biph-OCO(CH2)(m)N(CO)(2)C6H4](n)-, Biph=4,4'-biphenylyl; m = 7, 10} are synthesized in satisfactory yields by WCl6-Ph4Sn catalyst in toluene at elevated temperatures. The structures and properties of the polymers are characterized and evaluated by IR, NMR, TGA, DSC, POM, and XRD analyses. Both of the polymers are thermally stable (T-d greater than or less than 300 degrees C) and exhibit nematicity at high temperatures. Their phthalimido groups are converted into amino groups by hydrolysis, which can, after acidification, complex with lead(II) bromide to furnish polyacetylene-perovskite hybrids in high yields. The organic components contribute good solubility to the hybrids, while the perovskite framework induces the polyacetylene chains to align within the inorganic sheets. The hybrids emit a strong UV light of 374 nm upon photoexcitation, whose quantum yield increases with an increase in the spacer length. (c) 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Abstract:4,4′-dis (9-Carbazole) biphenyl (DCBP), which is a hole transport material and has a symmetrical structure, was synthesized by Ullmann reaction with 4,4′-disiodo-biphenyl and carbazole.The structure of DCBP was (DIBP) characterized with IR and NMR spectra.Some quantum data such as ionization energy,advanced linear orbital level and conjugated energy were calculated by quantum chemical initial calculation method.The results indicated that the thermal stability of DCBP is better than that of TPP,which is simply explained in theory.

Abstract:A series of thermotropic liquid crystalline polyurethane(LCPU) were synthesized by polyaddtion reaction of 2,4-tolylene dissocyanate(2,4-TDI) with aliphatic diols and 4,4′-bis(5-hydroxypentoxy)biphenyl in N,-dimethylformamide(DMF) solution.The liquid crystalline behaviour and properties of the LCPU were investigated with differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),polarized optical microscope(POM),wide angle X-ray diffraction(WAXD).The melting point(Tm) of LCPU decreases and the temperature range of the liquid crystal phase of the polyurethane becomes wider with the increase of the length of diol flexibls spacers in polyurethane,while isotropic temperature(Ti) remains almost unchanged. The LCPU exhibits nematic phase with a schlieren texture(or threaded texture) and has wider mesophase temperature ranges.The WAXD results show that LCPU owns a dispersive peak at 2θ near 20°,and a strong diffraction peak at 2θ near 25°.

Abstract:A new pyridine containing compound, 4,4′-bis(4-pyridylethyl)biphenyl 1 , was synthesized and its structure was determined by X-ray crystallography. Two kinds of two-dimensional networks linked by hydrogen bonds were obtained with different crystal solvents: 1 ·2H 2 O, monoclinic, space group P 2 1 / n with a = 8.3280(10), b = 5.5990(10), c = 24.054(4) Å, β = 98.79(2)°, V = 1108.4(3) Å 3 , Z = 2, D c = 1.200 g cm −3 , R 1 = 0.0558; 1 ·CH 3 OH·2H 2 O, triclinic, space group P -1 with a = 8.3310(10), b = 12.861(2), c = 13.111(2) Å, α = 64.110(10), β = 75.000(10), γ = 83.750(10)°, V = 1220.7(3) Å 3 , Z = 2, D c = 1.177 g cm −3 , R 1 = 0.0529. It is interesting that in the hydrate the host molecule of 1 contains an essentially flat biphenyl section, while in the methanol complex the host molecule of 1 contains a substantial twist in the center of the biphenyl section. The compounds were also characterized by NMR and FTIR spectroscopies. The 1 H and 13 C NMR assignments for 1 were carried out by 2D NMR spectral measurements in acetonitrile- d 3 .

Abstract:Two series of thermotropic liquid crystalline polyureas were synthesized by the copolymerization of benzidine (or o tolidine), 1,6 hexane diamine and 2,4 toluene diisocyanate. The resulting copolymers were thermotropic liquid crystals only when the 1,6 hexane diamine mole ratio was in a certain range and only by using aliphatic diamine with 2,4 diicocyanate to prepolymerize followed by the addition of aromatic diamine. The thermotropic liquid crystals were determined to be nematic using a polarizing microscope with a hot stage (POM), a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), wide angle X ray diffraction (WAXD) and small angle X ray diffraction (SAXD).

Abstract:Novel main chain poly(aryl ether ketone)s containing a lateral phenyl group were synthesized by nucleophilic substitution reactions of 4,4'-biphenol and phenylhydroquinone with either 4,4'-difluorobenzophenone or 1,4-bis(4-fluorobenzoyl)benzene and their thermotropic liquid crystalline properties were characterized by a variety of experimental techniques. Thermotropic liquid crystalline behaviour was observed in the copolymers containing 50 and 70mol% biphenol. Melting (T-m) and isotropization (T-i) transitions both appeared on the DSC thermograms. A banded texture was formed after shearing the sample in the liquid crystalline nematic state. As expected, each of the copolymers had a relatively lower melting transition than the biphenol-based homopoly(aryl ether ketone)s because of the copolymerization effect of the crystal-disrupting monomer phenylhydroquinone.

Abstract:Summary The novel poly(aryl ether ketone)s containing chloro-side group were synthesized by nucleophilic substitution reactions of 4,4′-biphenol and chlorohydroquinone with either 4,4′-difluorobenzophenone(BP/CH/DF) or 1,4-bis(p-fluorobenzoyl)benzene (BP/CH/BF) and their thermotropic liquid crystalline properties were characterized by a variety of experimental techniques. The thermotropic liquid crystalline behavior was observed in the copolymers containing 50 and 70% biphenol. Melting transition (Tm) and isotropization transition (Ti) both appeared in the DSC thermograms. A banded texture was formed after shearing the sample in the liquid crystalline state. The novel poly(aryl ether ketone)s had relatively higher glass transition temperature (Tg) in the range of 168 ∼ 200 °C and lower melting temperature (Tm) in the range of 290 ∼ 340 °C. The thermal stability (Td) was in the range of 430 ∼ 490 °C.

Abstract:Two biphenyl carbazole-based derivative, namely, 9-(4′‑bromo-[1,1′-biphenyl]-4-yl)-9H-carbazole (1) and 9-(4′‑bromo-[1,1′-biphenyl]-4-yl)-3,6-diiodo-9H-carbazole (2) have been obtained. Compound 2 was prepared through the iodination on 9-(4′‑bromo-[1,1′-biphenyl]-4-yl)-9H-carbazole (1). Two compounds were characterized by FI-IR, UV–Vis spectra, elemental analyses and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 crystallizes in the formation of the space group P21/n. There exist CH⋯π stacking interactions among aromatic rings. Compound 2 belongs to the space group P-1, and it occurs intermolecular CH⋯π and π⋯π packing interactions among aromatic rings. Thermogravimetric analyses (TGA) of two compounds exhibit high thermal stabilities, in which the decomposition temperature for 1 and 2 are 298 and 368 °C, respectively. Additionally, the maximal peaks of compounds 1 and 2 are 386 and 410 nm, respectively. The Hirshfeld analyses reveal that the intermolecular contacts of Br∙∙∙C, I∙∙∙C and C∙∙∙C are responsible for the maximal bands.

Abstract:Novel aromatic poly(ether ketones) containing bulky lateral groups were synthesized via nucleophilic substitution reactions of 4,4'-biphenol and (4-chloro-3-trifluoromethyl)phenylhydroquinone (CF-PH) with 1,4-bis(p-fluorobenzoyl)benzene. The copolymers were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), wide-angle X-ray diffraction, and polarized light microscopy observation. Thermotropic liquid-crystalline behavior was observed in the copolymers containing 40, 50, 60, and 70 mol % CF-PH. The crystalline-liquid-crystalline transition [melting temperature (T-m)] and the liquid-crystalline-isotropic phase transition appeared in the DSC thermograms, whereas the biphenol-based homopolymer had only a melting transition. The novel poly(aryl ether ketones) had glass-transition temperatures that ranged from 143 to 151degreesC and lower T-m's that ranged from 279 to 291degreesC, due to the copolymerization. Abstract:A novel series of polybenzazoles with rigid-rod benzobisoxazole cycles an(] methylene soft segments were designed and synthesized via Solution condensation polymerizations from 2, 4-diamino-1, 5-benzenediol dihydrochloride, terephthalic acid and aliphatic dicarboxylic acids. The molecular Structures of polymers were characterized by FT-IR,H-1-NMR, WAXD and so on. The polymers are yellowish amorphous powders or solids and own excellent thermal stabilities ( T-d > 470 degrees C). All the polymers are soluble in strong protonic acid at room temperature, and the intrinsic viscosities are in a range of 0.8 similar to 0.9 dL/g. A spot of unclosed ring structure fragments if) file polymer Chain is found via FT-IR and H-1-NMR, and this is due to the obstacle effect of alpha-H of the aliphatic dicarboxylic acid in the polymerization process. The photophysical properties of polymers in methanesulfonic acid (MSA) were investigated by UV-Vis absorption and photoluminescence spectra. The UV-Vis absorption spectra of polymers in MSA (4.4 x 10(-4) g/dL) showed blue-shift from 429 nm for PBO to 291 nm for PBOC7. The photoluminescence emission spectrum of PBO reveals two sharp and strong peaks while the spectra of PBOCx all show one featureless broad diffuse peak. The Stokes shifts enlarge from 7 nm for PBO to 145 nm for PBOC3 One possible reason is that the gap between conduction and forbidden bands increases with the introduction of soft non-conjugation methylene segment. Further study is under way.

Abstract:A series of poly(ether sulfone)s and poly(ether ketone)s were synthesized from combinations of 1,5- and 2,6-bis(4-fluorosulfonyl)naphthalene, 2,6-bis(4-fluorobenzoyl)naphthalene, and 2,6-bis(4-fluorobenzoyl)quinoline with 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbiphenyl-4,4′-diol and 2,2′,3,3′,5,5′-hexamethylbiphenyl-4,4′-diol. The polycondensations proceeded quantitatively in diphenylsulfone in the presence of anhydrous potassium carbonate to afford polymers with inherent viscosities between 0.40 and 1.28 dL/g measured in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone or concentrated sulfuric acid. The tetramethyl- and hexamethyl-substituted aromatic polyethers exhibited good thermal stability, did not decompose below 330°C in both air and nitrogen atmospheres, and had higher glass transition temperatures than the corresponding unsubstituted polymers. The methylsubstituted poly(ether sulfone)s and poly(ether ketone)s showed good solubility in such common organic solvents as N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, N,N-dimethylacetamide, tetrahydrofuran, chloroform, and 1,4-dioxane.
