Abstract:In this paper, a predictive control method based on DMC is developed for multirate multivariable systems. The intersample behavior is considered and the optimization is performed as soon as there is a new measured output. By using the technique of FIACS1 (Flexible Advanced Control Software), the effect of “thin” system met in this method can be eliminated. Simulation results indicate that the method is effective with zero steady-state error and the intersample behavior is not degraded. The closed-loop stability criteria are also derived in the Appendix.

Abstract:This paper presents the robust stability conditions for single-input/single-output(SISO)dynamic matrix control(DMC)algorithm.Model uncertainty is described by using a range of possible plant impulse responses,and a new form of DMC algorithm based on a finite impulse response(FIR)model is discussed.Then the robust stability condition for the new DMC algorithm is derived based on Jury's dominant coefficient lemma.These results provide theoretical foundations for analyzing and designing predictive control systems.

Abstract:For fast dynamic processes and non-square multivariable systems, a multivariable constrained fast dynamic matrix control (DMC) algorithm was presented. A two-layer architecture including dynamic and economic optimization induced an auto control structure transformation for non-square multivariable systems. The extra degrees of freedom could be utilized to calculate the optimal values of inputs when the basic control objects of outputs were met. The approach of coordinating the step response model with the parametric model was employed to improve output prediction and remove truncation error. The one-step control move was calculated by only optimizing one point in the future horizon for each output. Compared to the traditional DMC algorithm, the proposed algorithm greatly reduces the calculation burden and has better control performance, and it can be embedded in distributed control system (DCS). The effectiveness of the algorithm was validated by an industrial project and a simulated example.

Abstract:In this paper, a robust stabilizing problem for linear time-varying uncertain systems with delayed state and control is studied when the full state can not be measured. An observer-based dynamic output feedback controller is derived to quadratically stabilize the linear time-delay system with norm-bounded uncertainty. A sufficient condition of robust output feedback stabilizability of a system is presented, then the sufficient condition is transformed into a Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) problem and the control law can be obtained by solving two LMIs. Finally, a numerical example is presented to illustrate the obtained results.

Abstract:Abstract A new framework to design immersion and invariance adaptive controllers for nonlinearly parameterized, nonlinear systems was recently proposed by the authors. The key step is the construction of a monotone mapping, via a suitable selection of a controller tuning function, which has to satisfy some integrability conditions—this translates into the need to solve a partial differential equation (PDE). In this paper this result is extended providing some answers to the questions of characterization of “monotonizable” systems and solvability of the PDE. First, adding to the design a nonlinear dynamic scaling, we obviate the need to solve the PDE. Second, for the case of factorizable nonlinearities , the following results are established. (i) It is shown that the monotonicity condition is satisfied if a linear matrix inequality is feasible. (ii) Directly verifiable involutivity conditions that ensure the solution of the PDE are presented. (iii) An explicit formula for the required tuning function is given, provided the regressor matrix satisfies some rank conditions. Hence, adding a dynamic scaling, this yields a constructive solution to the problem.

Abstract:A model-based predictive controller known as Dynamic Matrix Control with Linear Programming optimizer (DMC-LP) is applied to a nonlinear multivariable laboratory process which consists of four interconnected water tanks. Experimental results show that DMC-LP is a powerful constrained model predictive controller. Based upon simple step response model, it can provide improved control performance and strong robustness. More important, it can handle all kinds of input and output constraints explicitly. Finally, it can reconfigure the control structure based on the different operational requirements. Therefore, it can be applied in most complicated industrial processes.

Abstract:In many applications, the system dynamics allows the decomposition into lower dimensional subsystems with interconnections among them. This decomposition is motivated by the ease and flexibility of the controller design for each subsystem. In this paper, a decentralized model reference adaptive iterative learning control scheme is developed for interconnected systems with model uncertainties. The interconnections in the dynamic equations of each subsystem are considered with unknown boundaries. The proposed controller of each subsystem depends only on local state variables without any information exchange with other subsystems. The adaptive parameters are updated along iteration axis to compensate the interconnections among subsystems. It is shown that by using the proposed decentralized controller, the states of the subsystems can track the desired reference model states iteratively. Simulation results demonstrate that, utilizing the proposed adaptive controller, the tracking error for each subsystem converges along the iteration axis.

Abstract:As a practical approach, the dynamic matrix control (DMC) algorithm has been widely used in the control of chemical processes for decades. Nevertheless, there is no strong relationship between the tuning parameters of DMC and the closed-loop dynamics. In this article, a pseudo feedforward dynamic matrix control (PFFDMC) algorithm for realizing desired closed-loop performance in industrial systems is proposed. Building on insights from cascade control, a pseudo feedforward compensator is added in front of the process to precondition the overall system offline for expected characteristics achievement. Then, the actual manipulated variables can be obtained first by solving a modified objective function and then through matrix transformation. The proposed algorithm provides a quantitative relation between the pseudo feedforward sequence and the final setpoint tracking results rather than a qualitative way. Numerical simulations on SISO and MIMO systems are performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm on performance criteria achievement.

Abstract:Abstract The focus of the research is on the design of a decentralized output feedback controller for a class of large-scale systems using linear matrix inequalities (LMI). The class of large-scale systems is characterized by unmatched nonlinear interconnection functions that are uncertain but quadratically bounded in the overall system state. An elegant LMI solution to the problem is provided in (Siljak and Stipanovic 2001), but the method requires that the input matrix of each subsystem be invertible, i.e., each subsystem has as many independent control inputs as state variables. We provide an LMI solution that does not require invertibility of the input matrices of each subsystem. Simulation results on an example are given to validate the design.

Abstract:This paper proposes a dynamic matrix control (DMC) algorithm that uses the proper future target information to improve the tracking performance. A default choice of feed-forward implies no anticipation and could lead to degeneration of performance. By first illustrating the underlying feed-forward structure in the original DMC scheme without constraints, this paper gives a systematic method for selecting a good choice for advanced knowledge and proposes a feed-forward DMC algorithm with constraint handling. A typical case study demonstrates the efficacy of the proposal.

The simulation study shows that the improved dynamic matrix control is applicable on the dynamic performance of paper-making machine and shortening the response time, with excellent anti-interference capability and good robustness.

Dynamic matrix control (DMC) is one of these technologies, and plays an important role in refinery and petrochemical plant APC practice. There are many factors that may impact the success of an APC project, including technological and non-technological issues. The engineering aspects of APC project are discussed and explained by the details of execution of a crude unit APC application. The purpose of this paper is to highlight how to integrate DMC technology and fundamental process control knowledge for getting the APC project done.

Abstract:In this paper, a support vector machine (SVM) with linear kernel function based nonparametric model identification and dynamic matrix control (SVM_DMC) technique is presented. First, a step response model involving manipulated variables is obtained via system identification by SVM with linear kernel function according to random test data or manufacturing data. Second, an explicit control law of a receding horizon quadric objective is gotten through the predictive control mechanism. Final, the approach is illustrated by a simulation of a system with dead time delay. The results show that SVM_DMC technique has good performance in predictive control with good capability in keeping reference trajectory.

Abstract:This paper studies the dynamic output-feedback H-infinity control for continuous-time descriptor systems based on the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. Derivation of a sufficient condition for the existence of a dynamic output feedback control construction of it based on the LMI solution parameters. A simple design method of the output feedback control is presented. A numerical example is also given to illustrate the design procedures and their effectiveness.

Abstract:Reinforcement learning technique was developed recently as an interesting topic in designing adaptive optimal controllers. This technique explicitly provided a feasible solution to circumvent the “curse of dimensionality” and requiring a system model inherent in the classical dynamic programming algorithm. By virtue of this property, in our work, by introducing this technique into a predictor-based online adaptive neural dynamic surface predictive control architecture, we concentrate on a novel robust predictive control framework subject to system uncertainties. To be specific, in this presented framework, an adaptive dynamic programming control strategy utilizing a critic neural network point of view is developed to learn the optimal control policy. Our modification is able to facilitate the alleviation of performance deterioration caused by system uncertainties and enable the smooth and fast learning, while keeping the merits of the finite control-set model predictive control. Finally, the interest and applicability of the proposed control methodology are verified by performance evaluation.

Abstract:Using linear matrix inequality approach, this paper deals with a class of uncertain dynamic systems. The class of systems under consideration is described by a continuous-time uncertain model with multiple time-varying delays in both states and controls. The uncertainties are unknown but norm-bounded. A sufficient condition for a class of uncertain delay system to be stabilizable is obtaincd. It is shown that the construction of the stabilizing controller involves solving several linear matrix in-qualities. Finally, an example is given both to illustrate the proposed approach's effectiveness and to show the proposed approach's advantages over Riccati equation approach.

Abstract:Based on the infinity norm performance index, dynamic matrix control (DMC) skillfully combines with the step motion, and a novel control technique of synchronous motor is proposed in this paper. It breaks the traditional control method of the drive, and uses the predictive model based on the dynamic information in the rotor position of the synchronous motor, rolling optimization strategy and the feedback control algorithm to solve the problems of modeling and control for synchronous motor. Simulations are carried out using a 70HP synchronous motor operating at the position and speed control modes, respectively. The results verify the validity of our present method

Abstract:To construct a clean and efficient energy system, advanced solar thermal power generation technology is developed, i.e., a solar hybrid STIGT (Steam Injected Gas Turbine) system with near zero water supply. Such a system is conducive to the efficient use of solar energy and water resources, and to improvement of the performance of the overall system. Given that the strong correlation between multiple-input and multiple-output of the new system, the MDMC (Multivariable Dynamic Matrix Control) method is proposed as an alternative to a PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controller to meet requirements in achieving better control characteristics for a complex power system. First, based on MATLAB/Simulink, a dynamic model of the novel system is established. Then it is validated by both experimental and literature data, yielding an error no more than 5%. Subsequently, simulation results demonstrate that the overshoot of output power on MDMC is 1.2%, lower than the 3.4% observed with the PID controller. This improvement in stability, along with a reduction in settling time and peak time by over 50%, highlights the excellent potential of the MDMC in controlling overshoot and settling time in the novel system, while providing enhanced stability, rapidity, and accuracy in the regulation and control of distribution networks.
