Abstract:The hydrolysis of sawdust in dilute HCl solution with FeCl2 or FeCl3 as catalyst was studied in a 0.9 L continuous reactor. The effects of temperature, reaction time, concentration and composition of catalysts and the ratio of liquid to solid on the sugar pick up were investigated. The catalytic effect of FeCl2 is better than that of FeCl3. With consideration of cost, FeCl2 is more suitable to the industrial use. The suitable hydrolysis conditions were given.
