Abstract:A series of epoxide compounds catalyzed by TMSCl are synthesized by Darzens condensation reaction of aldehydes and α-bromo ketones in the presence of Mg and ethanol.The structure of the products are characterized by IR,1HNMR and 13CNMR.The reaction has the advantage of simple working-up procedure,mild reaction conditions,excellent yields and meets the requirements of green chemistry.

Abstract:The condensation reaction of a gamma-tert-butylallenoate, ethyl 5,5-dimethylhexa-2,3-dienoate, and aldehydes in the presence of sodium ethoxide is described. A range of aldehydes readily reacts with gamma-tert-butylallenoate and ethoxide providing a straightforward synthesis of 1,2,3,4-tetrasubstituted conjugated dienes in moderate to good yields and exclusive E,E selectivity. For some aldehydes, the condensation chemoselectively delivers conjugated enynes in good yields and exclusive E selectivity.

Abstract:A series ofα,α'-bis(substituted benzylidene)cycloalkanones were synthesized by condensation reaction of aromatic aldehydes with cyclohexanone ketal or cyclopentanone ketal using strong-acid cation exchange resin Amberlyst 15 as catalyst in ethanol media. The reactions were completed during 2~6 h with 80%~92%yields. The structure of the products was characterized by IR, 1HNMR, MS and the melting point. The products were convenient to work up. This process is simple, efficient, environmentally benign and without any self-condensation.

Abstract:A novel synthesis of acyclic cis-enediynes 2 has been established by an acid-catalyzed rearrangement of 1,2-diyn-2-propen-1-ols 1 possessing a C-3-aryl group in the presence of water, alcohols, or thiols. Reactivity of allyl alcohols and regio- and cis/trans diastereoselectivity of the allylic migration were examined. In the presence of(+/-)-10-camphorsulfonic acid (CSA), the parent allyl alcohol 5 and the C-3-methyl-substituted 9 failed to give enediynes, whereas the C-3-aryl-substituted 12 and 29 underwent the allylic rearrangement to provide predominantly cis-enediynes 16 and 31 at room temperature or below. Under similar acidic conditions, enediyne alcohol 13 produced 16b and 16d with the same regio and cis/trans diastereoselectivity observed for 12. Allyl alcohol 30, an isomer of 29, also provided enediynes 31c and 32c after a prolonged reaction (90 h) at room temperature in the presence of CSA and EI;OH. These results suggested that the same allylic cations were obtained from allyl alcohols 12 and 13 or 29 and 30 even though the ease of ionization differed for each substrate. Involvement of allylic cations in the product-forming step was confirmed by the finding that chiral allyl alcohols (-)-12 and (-)-18c furnished racemic products. In general, the p-MeOPh-substituted allyl alcohol 29 gave a better regioselectivity than the Ph-substituted 12. In the reactions with alcohols, the regioisomeric ratios were 100:0 (31:33) for 29 and ca. 96:4 (16:17) for 12; the ratios decreased to ca. 90:10 (31:33) for 29 and ca. 10:30 (16:17) for 12 when thiols were used. The cis/trans diastereoselectivity is higher for allyl alcohol 12 (100% for 16 at 20 degrees C) compared to that for 29 (31:32 = 80:20-94:6 at 0 degrees C). Computational calculations at the RHF/3-21G level, carried out on the model compounds and allylic cations, indicated that nucleophilic trapping takes place preferentially at the Cg carbon to form the thermodynamically much more stable enediynes. Under the best reaction conditions (1 equiv of CSA and 2 equiv of EtOH in CH2Cl2, 20 degrees C), a number of acyclic cis-enediynes can be synthesized in three steps from the commercially available alpha-bromocinnamaldehyde (10).

Abstract:A series of 1,3-diaryl-1-oxo-propylene compounds(1a~1j)were obtained from substituted acetophenone and substituted aromatic aldehydes.Ten 1,3-diaryl-1-acetones(3a~3j)were synthe-sized by the reaction of 1a ~1j with 4-methylbenzenesulfonhydrazide(2).The structures were con-firmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMR,IR and HR-MS(ESI).The effects of base,solvent,temperature and the ratio{γ[n(1a)/n(2)n/(base)]} on the yield of 3a were studied.The results showed that 3a could be obtained with the highest yield(80%)under the optimum conditions(γ=1/2/2, potassium phosphate as base,ethanol as solvent,reaction at 80 ℃for 4 h).

Abstract:The environmental friendly reaction of aromatic aldehydes with 5, 5-dimethyl-1,3-cyclohexandione giving 2,2'-arylmethylene bis(3-hydroxy-5,5-dimethyl-2-cyclohexene-1-one) (3) was carried out in water in the presence of trienthylbenzylammonium chloride (TEBA). While TsOH existed in the reaction, 3, 3, 6, 6-tetramethyl-9-aryl-1,8-dioxooctahydroxanthene (4) or 3,3-dimethyl-9-(3-hydroxy-5,5-dimethyl-2-cyclohexene-1-one-2-yl)-1-oxotetrahydroxanthene (6) rather than 3 was obtained with excellent yield.

Abstract:Two novel, non-thiolic, odorless dithiol equivalents, alpha,alpha-diacetyl cyclic ketene dithioacetals 2a and 2b, had been developed. A range of carbonyl compounds 3 were converted into corresponding dithioacetals, dithianes 4 and dithiolanes 5, in high yields (up to 99%) in the presence of 2a or 2b. Moreover, 2a and 2b show high chemoselectivity between aldehyde and ketone in thioacetalization.

Abstract:Z(E)-ethyl 3-oxo-2-(4-phenyl-1,3-dithiolan-2-ylidene)butanoate (1) was prepared in moderate (40.3%) yield by the reaction of ethyl 3-oxobutanoate with carbon disulfide and 1-(1,2-dibromoethyl)benzene with potassium carbonate as the base in DMF.Subsequently,the condensation reaction of 1 with arylalde- hydes was performed in the presence of C_2H_5ONa in C_2H_5OH,in which the product of condensation and ester hydrolysis:(2Z(E),4E)-3-oxo-5-phenyl-2-(4-phenyl-1,3-dithiolan-2-ylidene)pent-4-enoic acid (2) were isolated in good yield.

Abstract:DBU-catalyzed condensation of ethyl diazoacetate (EDA) with aldehydes in pure water afforded corresponding β-hydroxy α-diazo carbonyl compounds. The β-hydroxy group of the products was further converted into β-siloxy group. The Rh(II)-catalyzed reaction of the β-aryl β-siloxy α-diazo carbonyl compounds gave 1,2-aryl shift products predominantly. The three-step transformation constitutes an efficient synthesis of ethyl β-hydroxy α-arylacrylates.

Abstract:One-pot chemoselective condensation of 1,3-cyclohexanedione, urea or thiourea with aldehydes has been performed by using TMSCl as a Lewis acid in DMF/MeCN. This extended Biginelli-type reaction afforded two families of fused heterobicyclic and spiro-fused heterobicyclic compounds in excellent yields. para-Substituted benzaldehydes exhibited different chemical behaviors to ortho- or meta-substituted benzaldehydes and aliphatic aldehydes. The possible mechanism was discussed to account for experimental results.

Abstract:[reaction: see text]. A series of new chiral C3-symmetric tris(beta-hydroxy amide) ligands have been synthesized via the reaction of 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic chloride and optically pure amino alcohols (up to 96% yield). The asymmetric catalytic alkynylation of aldehydes with these new C3-symmetric chiral tris(beta-hydroxy amide) ligands and Ti (O(i)'Pr)4 was investigated. Ligand 4c synthesized from (1R,2S)-(-)-2-amino-1,2-diphenylethanol is effective for the enantioselective alkynylation of various aldehydes, and high enantioselectivity was obtained with aromatic aldehydes and alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehyde (up to 92% ee).

Abstract:The chemoselectivity in the reaction of 2-diazo-3-oxo-3-phenylpropanal (1) with aldehydes and ketones in the presence of Et3N was investigated. The results indicate that 1 reacts with aromatic aldehydes with weak electron-donating substituents and cyclic ketones under formation of 6-phenyl-4H-1,3-dioxin-4-one derivatives. However, it reacts with aromatic aldehydes with electron-withdrawing substituents to yield 1,3-diaryl-3-hydroxypropan-1-ones, accompanied by chalcone derivatives in some cases. It did not react with linear ketones, aliphatic aldehydes, and aromatic aldehydes with strong electron-donating substituents. A mechanism for the formation of 1,3-diaryl-3-hydroxypropan-1-ones and chalcone derivatives is proposed. We also tried to react 1 with other unsaturated compounds, including various olefins and nitriles, and cumulated unsaturated compounds, such as N,N-dialkylcarbodiimines, phenyl isocyanate, isothiocyanate, and CS2. Only with N,N-dialkylcarbodiimines, the expected cycloaddition took place.

Abstract:In the condensation of arylaldehydes with arylethylidenemalononitriles, it was found that, besides the normal product dienes a, the ring-closure product quinoline derivatives b can be also obtained in 26%-50% yields. The substituent effects were also examined and a possible reaction mechanism was proposed for the formation of b. The X-ray crystal structure of 1b confirms the structure of the ring-closure product.

Abstract:Symmetrical and unsymmetrical alpha-diazo-beta-diketones undergo thermal Wolff rearrangements to generate alpha-carbonylketenes to participate as dienes in Diels-Alder reactions with 4-aryl-2-methyl-2,3-dihydro-1,5-benzothia/diazepines to give, where applicable, regiospecific cycloadducts, 4 alpha,5,6,12-tetrahydro-1H/1H, 7H-1,3-oxazino[3,2-d][1,5]benzothia/diazepin-1-ones. Abstract:The fused heterocyclic compounds 2 : imidazo [1,2-a] pyridine 2a-c and pyrido [1,2-a] pyrimidine 2d were obtained from the reaction of alpha-cinnamoyl ketene dibenzylthio acetals 1 with diamine. When alpha-cinnamoyl -alpha'-benzoyl ketene N, N-acetals 3a-b were treated by t-BuONa/t-BuOH solution. 8-benzoyl-pyrido[1,2-a] pyrimidine 4 was produced.
