Abstract:Four europium(III)/terbium(III)‐pyrimidine carboxylic acid complexes have been quickly synthesized under different reaction conditions by precipitation method . The structure and the phase purity can be confirmed by elemental analysis ,X‐ray power diffraction and IR spectroscopy ,the photoluminescent property of the solid‐state samples were determined .The investigation of the relationship between the crystal structures and the photoluminescence properties indicates that the energy difference between the triplet energy level of ligands and the resonance level of Ln3 + ions ,the coordination environments of lanthanide ions and the arrangement of the ligands are the dominating factors that affect the luminescence behaviors of the solid samples . This experiment combines the synthesis of ligands and lanthanide complexes with the modern instrumental analysis technology ,which is suitable for chemistry undergraduates as a comprehensive experiment . The experiment can help students deepen their understanding of the principles of photoluminescence of lanthanide complexes and the factors affecting the luminous efficiency ,enhance their research capabilities ,and strengthen their ability with the combination of theory and practice .
