Study of the Sulfonation Reaction Between Heptane and Liquid Sulphur Trioxide

Abstract:The sulfonation of linear heptane with sulphur trioxide (L) in the solvent of 1,2-dichloroethane is studied. The effects of temperature, concentration, reactants' dropping rate and the ratio of reactants have been discussed in this paper. The sulfonation depth is measured by cationic exchange resins titration. It is chiefly affected by the concentrations and ratio of reactants and has no relation to reaction temperature and dropping rate.
