Abstract:The invention discloses a triazole ring-containing quaternary ammonium salt type cationic surfactant and a synthesis method thereof. The synthesis method comprises the following steps of: 1) sequentially adding an active tertiary amine group-containing amine type compound, a first solvent and a compound containing alkynyl and halogen into a reactor, performing a reaction and then precipitating to get a product; and 2) dissolving the product obtained in the step 1) and a compound containing an azido group and long-chain alkane or arene in a second solvent under the protection of nitrogen, further adding a copper catalyst and an amine type ligand, performing a reaction, and further performing precipitation, separation and drying to get a target product. The triazole ring-containing quaternary ammonium salt type cationic surfactant can be used as an antibacterial material, a phase transfer agent, a metal anti-corrosion agent, a transition metal ion ligand or the surfactant.

Abstract:A series of N-alkyl or N-aryl chitosan quaternary ammonium salts were prepared via Schiffs base intermediates. Quaternization of N-substituted chitosan derivatives was carried out using methyl iodide to produce water-soluble cationic chitosan quaternary ammonium salt. The products were characterized by IR, (HNMR)-H-1 and elemental analysis. The degree of substitution of chitosan quaternary ammonium salt was calculated by elemental analysis.

Abstract:Eight halogen quaternary ammonium cationic surfactants containing adamantane structure were successfully synthesized through quaterisation of the intermediate compound-N, N-dimethyl tertiary amine using halogen quaternary ammonium reagents. N-(1-adamantyl)-N, N-dimethylamine was synthesized through the Eschweiler-Clarke methylation reaction in which 1-adamantine and formaldehyde with excess formic acid were used as raw materials. The yields of the eight products were 90%, 85%, 75%, 61%, 44%, 54%, 87%, 45% respectively. The structures of all these compounds were confirmed by elemental analysis, IR, and 1H NMR. Surface tensions of these eight compounds' aqueous solutions with concentration of 0.1% and 1% were measured. The results showed that the surface tensions of these aqueous solutions decreased to different degrees compared with pure water. It was also found that the difference of surface activity among similar structure compounds with different anions (halide ions) was not significant. However, surface activity increased when the carbon chain lengths of the quaternary ammonium reagents increased. © All Rights Reserved.

Abstract:Methods for synthesis of reactive quaternary ammonium salt surfactants were systematically summarized. According to the features of molecular structure,various types of reactive quaternary ammonium salt surfactant were classified and compared. Methods for synthesis of several types of reactive quaternary ammonium salt cationic surfactants with specific functional groups( double bond,epoxy,hydroxy and amide) were introduced. Industrial applications of the surfactants,such as corrosion inhibiting and anti- scaling agent, solubilizing and sensitizing agent,co- polymerizable emulsifier,clay stabilizer,sheet softener as well as phase transfer catalyst were expounded. Currently existing deficiencies of the reactive quaternary ammonium salt surfactants and the development trend was prospected.

Abstract:Three trimeric quaternary ammonium surfactants, having adamantane cores and different carbon chains, were synthesized using adamantane as the starting raw material. The target compounds were confirmed by elemental analysis, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, and mass spectroscopy. The influences of reaction conditions on the yields of the key intermediate product 1,3,5-trihydroxyadamantane (3) were investigated. Surface properties of the target compounds were measured. The critical micelle concentration values of 1a, 1b, and 1c were 2mM, 1mM, and 0.5mM, respectively.

Abstract:A series of newly structured two-tailed cationic surfactants were synthesized via a carbonyl amine condensation reaction aimed at reducing the bioaccumulation of conventional surfactants while maintaining their excellent surface properties. Long-chain alkyl amine compounds can be reversibly converted into charged surfactants through CO 2 /H 2 O treatment and an alkyl chain length of between C 8 and C 12 . The structures were characterized by IR, 1 H NMR and 13 C NMR. The main surface activity parameters of the surfactants, containing cmc, γ cmc pC 20 , cmc/С 20 , Γ m and Α min , were determined. The switching properties of N'-alkyl-N, N-dimethylalkamidine bicarbonate and N, N-dimethyl-N-alkylamidine bicarbonate were demonstrated by investigating their conductivities in solution and carrying out their emulsification-emulsion-breaking experiment.

Abstract:In the manuscript, two sulphonate-crown ether surfactants (sodium (4′-dodecanoyldibenzo-18-crown-6)-4″(5″)-sulphonate, ammonium (4′-dodecanoyldibenzo-18-crown-6)-4″(5″)-sulphonate) were designed and synthesized by a two-step continuous method. The synthesized sulphonate-crown ether surfactants were characterized by IR, 1H NMR and elemental analysis. Abstract:A novel perfluoroalkyl-containing quaternary ammonium salt was synthesized from N-methyl diethanolamine (MDEA) and perfluorinated hexyl ethyl iodide. The effects of solvent, reaction temperature,reactant molar ratio,solvent volume and reaction time on reaction on conversion rate were studied. The optimal process parameters for synthesizing product were obtained by orthogonal experiment,which are 8 mL n-butyl alcohol,90℃ reaction temperature,42 h reaction time,2.5∶1 molar ratio of perfluorinated hexyl ethyl iodide and MDEA. The conversion rate of MDEA was 93.75%. The structure of product was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrum. The surface properties of the surfactant were studied by measuring the surface tension of the product aqueous solution. The results showed that the critical micellar concentration (CMC) of the above perfluoroalkyl-containing quaternary ammonium salt was 1.518 mmol/L,theγCMC was 9.3 mN/m. The single molecule saturated adsorption,single molecule average areas on the saturated adsorption layer,and the micellization standard free energy were 0.354×10-10 mol/cm2,4.69 nm2,and-26.03 kJ/mol,respectively. Compared with similar products,the product exhibited excellent surface properties.

Abstract:A novel cationic surfactant Guerbet-cetyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (G-CTAC) was synthesized by combining several traditional synthetic processes in laboratory. The molecular structure of G-CTAC was characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra and proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1HNMR). This new amphiphile exhibited excellent performances in aqueous solution, which was investigated by surface tension measurement, contact angle on parafilm, particle size of aggregates, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), emulsifying experiments, and antistatic tests. It was found that the new quaternary ammonium compound could effectively decrease the surface tension of aqueous solution to 26.2 mN m−1 with the critical micelle concentration (CMC) being 5.9 mmol L−1. In addition, the cationic surfactant synthesized could efficiently decrease the contact angle of aqueous solution on paraffin surface. We suppose that these unique properties are attributed to the presence of the branching Guerbet-cetyl being hydrophobic group in the molecule. Moreover, according to TEM observations, this quaternary ammonium compound was inclined to aggregate into vesicles spontaneously without induction of any other additives in aqueous solution. Antistatic tests and emulsifying experiments were also conducted to explore the potential applications of this new material.

Abstract:Three cationic surfactants, N-dodecyl-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-N,N-dimethylammonium bromide, N-tetradecyl-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-N,N-dimethylammonium bromide and N-cetyl-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-N,N-dimethylammonium bromide have been synthesized. The aqueous two-phase systems of surfactant mixtures from such N-alkyl-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-N,N-dimethylammonium bromides or N-cetyl-N,N,N-trimethyl-ammonium bromide (CTAB) with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) have been investigated at 313.15 K. The results indicate that two aqueous two-phase regions can be observed in these mixed cationic-anionic surfactant systems. The two regions are nearly symmetric to the equimolar line. With the increase of chain length in the cationic surfactants, the aqueous two-phase regions with abundant cationic surfactants shift slightly to the lower molar ratio of anionic surfactant versus cationic one.

Abstract:A series of novel surfactants, namely sodium monoitaconamic carboxylate anionic surfactants with amide group, were synthesized through amidation and neutrallzation reaction with itaconic anhydride (IAn) and long chain aliphatic amines (such as octadecylamine, hexadecylamine, tetradecylamine and laurylamine) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) as raw materials. The chemical structures of the surfactants were characterized and determined by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H NMR) and Infrared Spectrometer(FT-IR). The synthesized surfactants had lower surface tension and critical micelle concentrations(CMC). Moreover, the productions had good solubilizing effects, wetting properties and foaming properties.

Abstract:Quaternary ammonium cationic surfactants are widely employed in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries and in many applications. To develop new functional quaternary ammonium cationic surfactant, a new cationic surfactant 2-Hydroxy-3(Ethyl Glycolate)-N,N-Dimethylpropan Aminium Chloride (HECA) was synthesized and characterized. The conditions of in the quaternization reaction were investigated in cluding the temperature, reaction time, and molar r atio. The Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC) and foamability and foam stability were evaluated, and the results showed that it reaches to 32.1 mN/m at the concentration of 1◊10-3 mol/L, the minimum surface tension was around 28.9 mN/m beyond 1◊10-2 mol/L. The foam foamability and foam stability measurement are consistent with those of CMC. The structure of the foam was investigated as well.

Abstract:The Fischer-Tropsch synthesis can be used to achieve a high content of alpha-olefin (C-5-C-11) products using Fe-based catalysts. Herein, C-6 and C-8 alpha-olefins have been selected as examples for the alkylation of benzene catalyzed by using an acidic ionic liquid (Et3NHCl-AlCl3) to obtain a variety of intermediates used to prepare surfactants. A series of alkylbenzenes were synthesized by controlling the reaction conditions and their corresponding alkylbenzene sulfonates were successfully obtained by sulfonation and neutralization. It was found that the single chain alkylbenzene sulfonate derivatives did not display typical surfactant properties due to their short hydrophobic chain length. However, double chain alkylbenzene sulfonates exhibit excellent surfactant properties, and decrease the water surface tension compared to commercially available sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonates. A gamma cmc( )(mN m(-1)) value of 32.70 was observed for sodium di-hexylbenzene sulfonates, 29.98 for sodium di-octylbenzene sulfonates, and 36.0 for sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonates. In addition, double chain alkylbenzene sulfonates show an improved emulsifying and wettability performance compared to sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate. This demonstrates that the capability of alkylbenzene sulfonate to decrease the surface tension are closely related to the total carbon number of side chain-alkyl groups connected to the benzene ring.

Abstract:A novel trimeric cationic surfactant was firstly synthesized with epoxy resin and tertiary amine as main materials. A new method for synthesizing oligomeric surfactants was researched and the synthesis conditions were optimized. The products were analyzed by chemical analysis, infrared absorb spectroscopy and mass spectrometry of electrospray ionization respectively. The results show that under ~50 °C adding epoxy resin into tertiary amine with the ratio 3∶1 and reacting for 7 h are the optimize conditions.

Abstract:Abstract Novel surfactants with double hydrophilic groups (cocopropane and tallowpropane bis-guanidinium acetates), were synthesized and tested to evaluate both the basic surfactant properties and the unique application performance. Surface tension, conductivity and contact angle measurements were used to study the self-aggregation behavior in aqueous solution. Aggregation parameters were calculated such as adsorption efficiency and effectiveness (pC 20 and CAC/C 20 ), the maximum surface excess concentration (Г max ) and minimum surface area permolecule (A min ). The thermodynamic parameters of aggregation based conductivity measurements revealed that the aggregation process was spontaneous and entropy-driven. Compared to DTAC and CTAC, the alkyl bis-guanidinium acetates showed a higher emulsification capacity with both liquid kerosene and soybean oil. The evaluation of antimicrobial activity showed that the alkyl bisguanidinium acetates exhibited strong antibacterial activity against the tested strains at a concentration of 50 ppm.

Abstract:Abstract A quaternary ammonium salt gemini surfactant (C 12 N) 2 O with diethyl ether as the spacer group was synthesized by dodecyl dimethyl amine and 2-chloroethyl ether. The structure of the product was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR) and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectra ( 1 H NMR), which showed that the structure of the synthesized product was consistent with the theoretical structure. We tested the surface tension of (C 12 N) 2 O at 25°C and found the critical micelle concentration (CMC) was roughly 2 orders of magnitude lower than that of dodecyl trimethylamine chloride (DTAC). Gemini structure and the unique diethyl ether spacer group endowed the novel amphiphile excellent properties including low contact angle and high antistatic property. (C 1 2 N) 2 O showed good compatibility with alcohol ether sulfate (AES) and dodecylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) in surfactant mixed systems. When the ratio of (C 12 N) 2 O:AES was 1:4 and (C 12 N) 2 O:LAS 1:9, the emulsifying properties were preferable to single surfactant.

Abstract:A number of techniques, including conductivity, surface tension, dynamic light scattering, transmission electron microscopy, and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), and 1H–1H 2D nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy (1H–1H 2D NOESY), have been used to investigate the effect of amide bonds on the interfacial and assembly properties of a cationic surfactant, N-anilinoformylmethyl-N-cetyl-N,N-dimethyl ammonium chloride (AMC-C16), in aqueous solutions. The adsorption of AMC-C16 has been found to be much better than that of the conventional cationic surfactant, benzyl cetyldimethylammonium chloride (BAC-16) at the air/water interface and in solution. The surface tension measurements show the presence of two critical aggregation concentrations (CAC1 and CAC2) for AMC-C16. The presence of a strong intermolecular hydrogen bond of AMC-C16 was confirmed by 1H NMR and FT-TR. The molecular interactions of AMC-C16 were detected by 1H–1H 2D NOESY. The results show that the rigid group (phenyl) of AMC-C16 was partially overlapped with its alkyl chain in aqueous solution, and the possible aggregation behavior for AMC-C16 was proposed. The effects of an inorganic salt (NaCl) and an organic salt (C6H5COONa) to the aggregates of AMC-C16 have been discussed.This article has not yet been cited by other publications.

Abstract:Double chain surfactants present specific benefits in various applications, such as the enhanced oil recovery and fabriccare due to their relatively high packing parameter, which leads to the easier formation of the lamellar microstructure. A series ofdouble chain quaternary cationic ammonium surfactants and amphoteric surfactant (IKD-CAT DiCn, IKD-diquat DiCnwithn= 11,13, 15, and IKD-dibetaine DiC15) have been designed and synthesized in Solvay. The physicochemical properties of these surfactantswere studied in this work in order to understand their self-assembly during the applications. Critical micelle concentration and thelyotropic liquid crystals as a function of concentration was investigated with various techniques, such as surface tension-meter,polarizing optical microscopy, and small-angle X-ray scattering. In general, the hydrophilic group structure determines theaggregation evolution patterns and the specific phase concentration range depends on the hydrophobic chain length. A multilayervesicle aggregation was formed at low concentration and only lamellar phase exists in the phase diagram for IKD-CAT. Besides thelamellar phase, the hexagonal and cubic phases were also observed in IKD-diquat solutions as the concentration was increased
