Abstract:The effect of WO3 doping on the dielectric temperature characteristics and the microstructure of a ternary ceramic system were investigated. Both the increase of WO3 doping level and the increase of sintering temperature led to a decrease in dielectric constant and the flatting of dielectric curves. The presence of a liquid phase and the pyrochlore phase cause this decrease. Also, microstructural and elemental analyses of the ceramics revealed the structure within one grain consists of three parts: the core, the shell and in-between one. This inhomogeneous composition distribution contributes to flat dielectric temperature dependence.

Abstract:The influence of NiO-doping on the microstructure and dielectric properties of CaCu3Ti4O12–xNiO (x=0, 0.003, 0.006, 0.010, 0.015, and 0.020) ceramics has been investigated using SEM, Raman spectra and dielectric spectrum measurements. The positron annihilation lifetime spectra (PALS) are used to investigate the influence of defects on the dielectric properties. The SEM results show that the grain morphology varies significantly with increasing NiO content. An appropriate small amount of NiO can promote the grain growth, which is beneficial to improve the dielectric properties in a CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) system. Positron results show that there are vacancy-type defects in the experimental samples, and the concentration of the defect and the defect type both change with increasing NiO content. The effects of microstructure including the grain morphology and the vacancy defects on the mechanism of the dielectric properties by adding NiO are discussed. The results demonstrate the importance of the grain morphology and the characteristic of defects in controlling the electrical properties of CCTO ceramics.

Influence of Grain Boundary Insulation on Nonlinear and Dielectric Discrepancy in Ni2+/Ni3+ Doped CaCu3-xNixTi4O12 Ceramics

Abstract:Two series of CaCu3-xNixTi4O12 (x = 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.5) ceramics doped with Ni2+ and Ni3+ were prepared via the solid-state reaction method. Despite the similar micro-morphologies of the samples, the nonlinear electrical characteristics were enhanced in the Ni3+-doped samples but deteriorated in their Ni2+-doped counterparts. With Ni content increasing, the breakdown field and nonlinear coefficient of Ni3+-doped samples enhanced from 0.54 to 6.14 kV cm(-1) and 2.68 to 4.92 respectively while dropped from 0.98 to 0.21 kV cm(-1) and 3.48 to 1.03 for Ni2+-doped samples. Impedance spectroscopy analysis revealed significant discrepancies in terms of grain boundaries between the two series of samples, which resulted in their different dielectric properties. The oxygen loss owing to the in situ formation of NiTiO3 was considered to be the crucial factor impeding grain boundary insulation, which was key to the potential barrier formation. In contrast with that of the Ni2+-doped samples, the oxygen loss of the Ni3+-doped samples was compensated by the reduction of Ni3+ to Ni2+. This helped maintain a high potential barrier height and resulted in different nonlinear characteristics of the two series.

Abstract:We present a Li and Ti codoped NiO-based polycrystalline ceramic with high-permittivity dielectric properties. Analysis of the ceramic microstructure and composition proves that obvious grain boundaries are formed. The measurements of frequency and temperature dependence of impedance and dielectric permittivity indicate that the grain and grain boundaries have remarkable influence on the dielectric properties due to the various activation energies corresponding to the dielectric relaxation processes. Our results also demonstrate that the activation energy required for relaxation Ea is almost the same to the activation energy of the conductivity in the grain interiors Eg.

Abstract:The dielectric properties of 0.87 (Pb1-2xBixKx) (Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.05BaTiO3-0.08PbTiO3 ceramics were studied experimentally. The experimental results show that with the increase of x, the dielectric constant increases; the temperature at which the dielectric constant is the maximum value shifts toward low temperature; the phase transition diffusive parameter (��) increases; and the frequency factor reaches the maximum value at x=0.15. The nano-structural inhomogeneity caused by Bi2O3/K2O dopant was considered to be the reason of flat dielectric temperature character of these PZN-based ceramics.

Abstract:SrLi1/4Nb3/4O3-doped PbxSr1-xTiO3 semiconducting ceramics (x=0.5, 0.6)were fabricated at relatively low sintering temperature. The ceramics exhibit NTCR-PTCR composite behaviors with high temperature coefficients. Sample's room temperature resistivity, NTCR effect and positive temperature coefficients decrease with doping excess PbO. The morphology, domain structure and compositional distribution were investigated using SEM, TEM and EDAX respectively, showing that the grains have 90degrees domain structures and Pb2+ Concentration of grain boundary layer is slightly lower than that of grain interior. According to the results, it is estimated that the NTCR effect of PbxSr1-xTiO3 ceramics should be closely related to cationic vacancies resulted from Pb volatilization.

Abstract:The effect of NiO additive on structure and dielectric properties of Bi2O3-ZnO-Nb2O5 based ceramics was investigated. All the samples were obtained at lower sintering temperature between 950degreesC-1020degreesC. With the aids of XRD analyses the structure of these samples was recognized. It shows that although the structure at small amount additive (NiOless than or equal to2wt%) is still made of cubic pyrochlore alpha phase and monoclinic pyrochlore beta phase as that of the reference composition, the proportion of each phase has been changed. With increasing of NiO doping, dielectric constant and loss rises at room temperature, and temperature coefficient of dielectric constant is declined to negative. The result of dielectric behaviors indicates that certain NiO additive can be an effective way to improve the value of dielectric constant and adjust temperature coefficient in Bi2O3-ZnO-Nb2O5 based ceramics.

Abstract:We report on measurements of the dielectric permittivity of NiO-based ceramics doped with Zr (ZNO). Samples were prepared by the traditional solid-state reaction method. The concentration of Zr has an effect on the dielectric properties of ZNO ceramics. High permittivity values (∼104) were observed which remain almost constant from 200 K to 350 K at low frequencies. The high-dielectric-constant response of the ZNO ceramics is attributed mainly to a grain boundary (internal) barrier layer capacitance.

Abstract:The effects of Nd-doping on the microstructure and electrical properties of Ca1-xNdxCeNbWO8+δ ceramics prepared by the traditional solid-state reaction route were investigated. XRD patterns reveal that all of the ceramics are assigned to the scheelite CaWO4 phase, whereas the cell volume of the ceramics decreases with the addition of Nd content. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis confirms that the coexistence of Ce3+/Ce4+ ions, which is one of the fundamental reasons for the conductivity of Ca1-xNdxCeNbWO8+δ ceramics. The Ca1-xNdxCeNbWO8+δ ceramics show NTC behavior by observing a good linear relationship between the natural logarithm of resistivity (lnρ) and the reciprocal of the absolute temperature (1000/T) over a wide temperature range (0–600 °C). The values of electrical performance parameters ρ 300 , B 300/600 and E a of the Ca1-xNdxCeNbWO8+δ compounds are in the range of 8710–15795 Ω cm, 5865.94–6383.89 K, 0.506–0.551 eV, respectively. With the increase of Nd doping, the resistivity, thermal constant B, and activation energy of the ceramics all decrease, indicating the electrical properties of the Ca1-xNdxCeNbWO8+δ compounds can be effectively adjusted by changing Nd3+ concentration.

Abstract:Li/Ta-codoped lead-free (Na,K)NbO3 ceramics with a nominal composition of [(Na0.535K0.480)(0.942)Li-0.058](Nb0.90Ta0.10)O-3 were synthesized normally at 1070 degrees-1100 degrees C. The XRD patterns of all samples show a single pervoskite structure with tetragonal symmetry. Although MPB separating the orthorhombic and tetragonal symmetries was absent, the maximum piezoelectric coefficient (d(33)), electromechanical coupling coefficient (k(p)), Curie temperature (T-c), and remanent polarization (P-r) were optimized as 216 pC/N, 38.1%, 445 degrees C, and 8.73 mu C/cm(2), respectively.

Abstract:The effects of Zn2+ substitution on the sintering behavior and dielectric properties of Nd1-xZnxNbO4-x/2 ceramics were investigated. The synthetic process and phase evolution were studied using TG-DSC and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The results show that Zn2+ substitution lowers the densification temperature of NdNbO4 ceramics. A single phase of monoclinic NdNbO4 was obtained by appropriate substitution (x = 0.05) of Zn2+ for Nd3+ in NdNbO4 ceramics. As the Zn2+ content increased to x = 0.1, ZnNb2O6 phase appeared in the ceramic. The dielectric constant epsilon r increased slightly from 17 to 19 with the content of Zn2+ increasing from 0 to 0.2 mol. The quality factor Qxf firstly increased and then decreased and reached the highest values of Qxf = 60,000 GHz at x = 0.1. The temperature coefficient of resonant frequency f shifted from -37 ppm/degrees C to -45 ppm/degrees C with the Zn2+ content increasing.

Abstract:In this work, we incorporated Ni2+ ions into BaZnP2O7 ceramics with a low dielectric constant to improve their performance. Enhancement of microwave dielectric properties was observed for BaZn0.94Ni0.06P2O7 sintered at 900 degrees C for 3 h: Er = 7.43(+/- 0.04), Q x f = 102,538(+/- 3012) GHz, and zf = -64(+/- 2.4) ppm/ degrees C. XRD, SAED, and EDS mapping indicated that a solid solution was formed in all ceramic samples. The Ni2+ doping promoted grain growth and densification of the samples. The density was a major factor affecting dielectric constant Er, and the pore-corrected Erc was explained by the molecular polarizability. The vibrational characteristics were analyzed by Raman and FTIR spectroscopies. The FWHM of Raman peaks had a marked effect on the Q x f and zf values. Furthermore, the higher lattice energy and larger band gap lead to the higher Q x f value of the BaZn0.94- Ni0.06P2O7 ceramic with lower density. The excellent performance of the prepared ceramics makes them a good candidate material for low-temperature co-fired ceramic technology.

Abstract:Effects of thermal annealing on the dielectric properties of Pb (Zn1/3Nb2/3) O3 based ceramics were studied. Both the relative dielectric constant and dissipation factor in the vicinity of transition temperature were increased, while the diffusion factors were decreased by thermal annealing. The possible causes of the observation were investigated by using the dielectric analysis, XRD and the microscopic examination. The change in dielectric properties induced by thermal annealing is attributed to the elimination of PbO-rich amorphous intergranular layers, the change in state of microdomains, and the relief of stress.

Abstract:Effects of Ca2+ doped into (Ba1 − xCax)(Ti1 − yZry)O3 (BCTZ) ceramics on microstructure and insulation resistance have been investigated. It is found that the shift of Ca2+ from A-sites to B-sites greatly influences the unit cell volume and the Curie temperature of BCTZ ceramics. During the firing process in reducing atmosphere, the large amounts of additive Ca2+ dispense among the grain boundaries and lead to the restrain of the grain growth. Within the same volume, the specimen with smaller grain size provides more grain boundaries, which helps in providing an efficient diffusion pathway for oxygen during annealing step and results in the improvement of the insulation resistance of the samples.

Abstract:The initial dielectric ageing behaviors of a doped Pb[Mg1/3Nb2/3]O3-based ceramic were investigated over a wide temperature range. The dielectric constant and logarithmic ageing time were regressed in terms of a linear relationship and the temperature dependence of ageing rate at different frequencies was obtained. The strongest ageing at a particular measurement frequency is confirmed to take place at the temperature of maximum dielectric constant of the deaged ceramic at that frequency. When the ageing temperature differs from this temperature, the ageing rate decreases. The curve of ageing rate against temperature, which is found to be symmetrical in shape, is fitted by a Gaussian equation. Microstructural factors responsible for the phenomenon are analysed.

Abstract:Abstract The doped Pb(Zr 0.52 Ti 0.48 )O 3 system with Nb 5+ and Sr 2+ were obtained by solid state reactions. The influence of nature of dopants on structural and microstructural properties were analyzed by XRD and SEM techniques and were also investigated the obtained dielectric and piezoelectric properties. The XRD analyzes and the SEM images highlighted the obtaining of homogeneous tetragonal structures, of the perovskite type. The physical (ρ a ), dielectric constant (ɛ r ) and piezoelectric (k p ) properties of the doped PZT systems were investigated. The Nb 5+ doped Pb(Zr 0.52 Ti 0.48 )O 3 system presented the ɛ r = 488 and k p = 0,52. Sr 2+ substitution for Nb 5+ doped Pb(Zr 0.52 Ti 0.48 )O 3 reduced the Curie temperature (from 420°C to 360°C), increased the dielectric constant at 1180, and also decreasing the k p (0,39).

Abstract:Lead-free (K0.5−x/2Na0.5−x/2Lix)(Nb0.8Ta0.2)O3 (KNLNT) and (K0.49−x/2Na0.49−x/2- LixCa0.01)(Nb0.8Ta0.2)O3 (KNLNT-Ca) ceramics were prepared by a conventional ceramic processing. Structural analysis shows that the Ca2+ doping takes the A site of ABO3 perovskite and decreases the phase transition temperature. Property measurements reveal that as a donor dopant, the Ca2+ doping results in higher room-temperature dielectric constant, lower dielectric loss, and lower mechanical quality factor. In addition, the Ca2+ doping does not change the positive piezoelectric coefficient d33, but increases the converse piezoelectric coefficient d33&ast; significantly. This is likely due to the increase in the relaxation, as well as the appearance of (CaNa/K•--VNa/K′) defect dipoles.
