Abstract:As to the previous algorithms,the accuracy of matching is low and when the line segments are occupied,the matching is failure or even not to be implemented.Focusing on these instances,this paper presents a modified method.In matching,a new search method establishes a new contour of the model image via removing its lines corresponding to the missing lines,so it solves the problem that the procedure of matching can not be implemented when several line segments in model image are absence;and in matching,the Random Sample Consensus(RANSAC) algorithm is introduced to settle the problem of mismatch by removing the pairs of mismatching lines.Experiments demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can settle the problem brought by occupied lines,and promote the accuracy of the matching.
An approach to extract straight lines with subpixel accuracy

Abstract:This paper presents a novel approach to extract the straight line with subpixel accuracy in images. Firstly, we model the line profiles and analyze their behavior in linear scale-space. From this analysis, algorithms to extract line points with sub-pixel resolution are derived. After that, a modified progressive probabilistic Hough transform (PPHT) algorithm, which is capable of obtaining subpixel accuracy line position, is proposed to find straight line structures from the line points. Finally, the performance of the approach is demonstrated using synthetic and real images. The experimental results show that the approach is able to extract straight lines effectively and can achieve subpixel accuracy.

Abstract:In order to provide a robust multi-sensor image matching algorithm to satisfy the scale and rotation invariance, we put forward a new matching method based on key line segment pairs, inspired by the visual system in which most of the information of image is contained in sketch. Firstly, the line segments that can express the feature of image are found and screened out. Then, the characteristic of line segment pairs is constructed by using the information and the relative position of line segments. And initial matching is carried out by the similarity between line segment pairs of two images. Finally, the topological relationship between line segments is used to achieve accurate registration. Experiment results tested by multi-sensor images show that the accuracy of image matching by using this proposed algorithm is more than 75% and the computing time is about 1/5 of traditional algorithm which satisfies the requirement of real-time and veracity in the multi-sensor image matching.

Abstract:In telerobotic system,the camera parameters of the images need to be quickly acquired in order to reconstruct the object.The camera parameters of the images can be directly acquired by using the corresponding relations in the matched lines,and it is more reliable than using corners.There are many approaches for extracting and matching straight lines,but they are all time-consuming thus limiting their use in the Real-time system.Aimed at the Real-time application,such as telerobotic system in space,a method for robustly and fast extracting and matching line segments based on support region of lines is proposed in the paper.The validity of this approach is indicated by experiment.

Abstract:We present a novel line segment matching method based on sparse representation with geometric configuration constraint. The significant idea is that we transfer the line matching issue into sparsity based line recognition. At first, line segments are detected by LSD detector and clustered according to spatial proximity to form completed lines. SIFT is used to represent points in the line segments and all point features are put together to form a distinctive descriptor. Line feature is then represented by a max pooling function. Features of all line segments are trained into a dictionary using sparse coding. Lines with the same similarity may fall together in the high dimensional feature space. Finally, lines in one view are matched to their counterparts in other views by seeking pulses from the coefficient vector. Under our framework, line segment is trained once and can be matched over all other views. When compared to matching approaches based on local invariant features, our method shows encouraging results with high efficiency. Experiment results have validated the effectiveness for planar structured scenes under various transformations.
A Line Matching Method Based on Local and Global Appearance

Abstract:This paper proposes a line matching method based on both local neighborhood gradient and global structure information of lines. Firstly we generate an initial set of line segment correspondences using our improved Mean Standard Deviation Line Descriptor (MSLD). Then candidate matches those violate the global topological structure of lines are removed to eliminate wrong matches. Finally iterative topological filter is used to search for more matches, whilst global angle constrains are implemented to get rid of wrong matches and make the algorithm more efficient. Experiments show that the proposed method is highly robust under the conditions of heavy illumination change, rotation, image blur, viewpoint change, scale change, etc. Comparisons on image database demonstrate that our method greatly outperforms the state-of-art methods in matching accuracy and efficiency.

Abstract:We describe techniques for matching two images or an image and a map. This operation is basic for machine vision and is needed for the tasks of object recognition, change detection, map up-dating, passive navigation, and other tasks. Our system uses line-based descriptions, and matching is accomplished by a relaxation operation which computes most similar geometrical structures. A more efficient variation, called the ``kernel'' method, is also described. We give results on complex aerial images which contain many image differences, caused by varying sun position, different seasons, and imaging environments, and also structural changes caused by man-made alterations such as new construction.

Abstract:Lines matching is the significant image pre-processing technique, which plays a central role in 3D reconstruction, visual navigation and other research fields. However, traditional lines matching methods suffered due to issues, e.g., complex processes, low efficiency, and poor matching effect, while those drawbacks strongly hurt the performance as required in the V-SLAM. In this research, we propose a fast and effective lines matching method. Based on the previous research of the fast line detection, we make full use of depth information to construct line features candidate areas to eliminate invalid features and to reduce the computational cost. Then, we use LBD descriptor to inscribe line features, and thereby ensuring the proper lines matching. It is worth noting that, in searching the effectiveness as required by tasks of lines detection and matching, we introduce geometric constraints into our framework. Experiments show that the method proposed in this paper can effectively improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the lines matching in real V-SLAM tasks.

Abstract:In the paper, a Point-Line Duality (PLD), i.e. a line in the image (x-y) space corresponds to a point in the dual (0-rho) space, based line matching method is proposed for image registration. First, edge points are detected in a template image and a target image. The edge points are linked and segmented into chains. The chains are fitted to lines, and the lines are mapped to dual points in the dual space. To improve stability and efficiency, a point merging algorithm is proposed to deal with the fragmentary line segments that should belong to a single line. As a result, a line matching problem is converted to a point pattern matching problem. Finally, a point pattern matching algorithm is proposed to determine registration parameters and to determine matched line pairs. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is effective for images under rigid body transformation, occlusion, and illumination change. (C) 2013 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Abstract:In order to improve the ability of anti-interference in the matching of image feature, a new matching method is proposed based on SIFT and RANSAC. Firstly, using SIFT to extract invariant features from images, best bin first research to be performed and computer the Euclidean distance ratio of nearest neighbor feature vector and second nearest neighbor feature vector to achieve the pre-matching. After that, RANSAC robust estimation is performed to eliminate the wrong feature matching. Finally, transformation parameters between matching and template image is computed by reliable matching points. The experimental results indicate that the matching algorithm is invariant to scale and rotation, and a substantial range of affine distortion, addition of noise, and can effectively complete the object matching between images.

Abstract:This paper presents a line matching method based on multiple intensity ordering with uniformly spaced sampling. Line segments are extracted from the image pyramid, with the aim of adapting scale changes and addressing fragmentation problem. The neighborhood of line segments was divided into sub-regions adaptively according to intensity order to overcome the difficulty brought by various line lengths. An intensity-based local feature descriptor was introduced by constructing multiple concentric ring-shaped structures. The dimension of the descriptor was reduced significantly by uniformly spaced sampling and dividing sample points into several point sets while improving the discriminability. The performance of the proposed method was tested on public datasets which cover various scenarios and compared with another two well-known line matching algorithms. The experimental results show that our method achieves superior performance dealing with various image deformations, especially scale changes and large illumination changes, and provides much more reliable correspondences.

Abstract:Establishing reliable feature correspondence between two images is a fundamental problem in vision analysis and it is a critical prerequisite in a wide range of applications including structure-from-motion, 3D reconstruction, tracking, image retrieval, registration, and object recognition. The feature could be point, line, curve or surface, among which the point feature is primary and is the foundation of all features. Numerous techniques related to point matching have been proposed within a rich and extensive literature, which are typically studied under rigid/affine or non-rigid motion, corresponding to parametric and non-parametric models for the underlying image relations. In this paper, we provide a review of our previous work on point matching, focusing on non parametric models. We also make an experimental comparison of the introduced methods, and discuss their advantages and disadvantages as well.
Image Matching for Non-Planar Scenes under Wide Baseline Views

Abstract:A match propagation algorithm was developed to improve the image match quality for non-planar scenes under wide baseline views. The traditional algorithm is based on the implicit assumption that the region centered on any pixel in an image satisfies the local coplanar situation. The algorithm breaks through the traditional assumption. After determining the co-planar conditions of local regions around the initial matches,the local affine transformation and constraints of global epipolar geometry are used to expand new matches to obtain the quasi-dense matches. The matches can be propagated into the regions whose local transformation is different from the initial one. Experiments show that the algorithm can improve the matching quality and increase the matching number under wide baseline and non-planar scenes.

Abstract:Technological developments in stereo image matching have advanced from traditional area-based to feature-based matching and lately to structural matching. This paper introduces a newly developed matching method utilizing structural matching. An evaluation function based on the joint probability of a possible match is derived. An informed tree search method is applied to find the best match. In order to keep the search time acceptable for photogrammetric applications, a series of strategies have been developed and integrated into the search method. Procedures for extraction of structural descriptions and an algorithm for rotation-invariant correlation are presented. In combining all these tools, the fully automated matching of image features is realized without any a priori information. Several tasks like relative image orientation, image matching of non-metric images and tie point measurement in aerotriangulation, which were fully automated by using the structural matching approach, are presented. The results indicate that structural matching techniques can achieve a very high level of automation in digital photogrammetry.
A Robust Line Matching Method Based on Local Appearance Descriptor and Neighboring Geometric Attributes

Abstract:This paper reports an efficient method for line matching, which utilizes local intensity gradient information and neighboring geometric attributes. Lines are detected in a multi-scale way to make the method robust to scale changes. A descriptor based on local appearance is built to generate candidate matching pairs. The key idea is to accumulate intensity gradient information into histograms based on their intensity orders to overcome the fragmentation problem of lines. Besides, local coordinate system is built for each line to achieve rotation invariance. For each line segment in candidate matching pairs, a histogram is built by aggregating geometric attributes of neighboring line segments. The final matching measure derives from the distance between normalized geometric attributes histograms. Experiments show that the proposed method is robust to large illumination changes and is rotation invariant.

Abstract:The goal of this paper is to present an efficient framework for non-rigid medical image matching. Previous non-rigid matching often produces unpredictable deformation field and unwanted stretching in the images. The as-rigid-as-possible nature of the Moving-LS technique thus makes it a new candidate by providing transformation that maintains the rigidity of structures for underlying physical reasons, while producing local deformations. In addition, it is very suitable for parallel computation, and the performance can be accelerated by multi-core processors through employment of multiple threads. The results demonstrate that the proposed matching method has good balance between accuracy and speed, and has potential in many medical applications.

Abstract:A novel image registration algorithm based on straight-lines is presented in this paper. Firstly, we transform the straight lines in the image space into points in the Hough parameter space using Hough transform. Then we propose an approach that simultaneously determines the correspondences between the points and solves for the parameters involved in the registration transformation function in Hough space. Experiments are conducted on both synthetic and real-world images and experimental results reveal that the algorithm is robust and efficient for most images rich with line features.
Image Matching Method of Three-Dimensional Object with Affine Invariant Feature

Abstract:In order to realize the image matching of three-dimensional object under different perspective, a method which is robust to affine transformation is proposed. Based on the fully affine invariant image comparison method, named Affine-SIFT (ASIFT), mASIFT (multi ASIFT) was put forward, in which a geometric transformation constraint method named mRANSAC(multi-plane RANSAC) was used to extract the right matching points from the coarse matches. It is corroborated that, compared to the singular homography constraint, the multi-plane constraint excluding mismatching method is more proper to the multi-plane characteristics of 3D objects. It could increase the number of matching pairs up to 5~9 times of ASIFT under the same condition. Further, the mutual error threshold of every homography would lower 3 pixels or 2 pixels. As a result, the proposed method could remove mismatches more efficiently, calculate out more accurate transformations and obtain more exact matching.
Novel Coplanar Line-Points Invariants For Robust Line Matching Across Views

Abstract:Robust line matching across wide-baseline views is a challenging task in computer vision. Most of the existing methods highly depend on the positional relationships between lines and the associated textures. These cues are sensitive to various image transformations especially perspective deformations, and likely to fail in the scenarios where few texture present. In this paper, we construct a new coplanar line-points invariant upon a newly developed projective invariant, named characteristic number, and propose a line matching algorithm using the invariant. The construction of this invariant uses intersections of coplanar lines instead of endpoints, rendering more robust matching across views. Additionally, a series of line-points invariant values generate the similarity metric for matching that is less affected by mismatched interest points than traditional approaches. Accurate homography recovered from the invariant allows all lines, even those without interest points around them, a chance to be matched. Extensive comparisons with the state-of-the-art validate the matching accuracy and robustness of the proposed method to projective transformations. The method also performs well for image pairs with few textures and similar textures.
