Abstract:Abstract A fuzzy system has been shown capable of arbitrarily approximating any nonlinear function, and has been successfully applied to system modeling together with an RBF network used for compensation. B-spline basis functions have many desirable numerical properties and as such is used as membership functions of fuzzy system in this paper. Abstract:This article presents a neural-network-based fuzzy logic control (NN-FLC) system. The NN-FLC model has the learning capabilities for constructing membership functions and extracting fuzzy rules from training examples. Both unsupervised and supervised training algorithms are used to find the membership functions of the FLC. Competitive learning algorithms are employed to evaluate fuzzy logic rules. Matlab programs using both neural and fuzzy toolboxes are developed to implement the NN-FLC model. Computer simulations of the inverted pendulum controlled by NN-FLC system were conducted to illustrate the self-learning ability of the network. (C) 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Abstract:The paper uses a three-layer feed-forward neural network with Levenberg-Marquardt learning algorithm to realize fuzzy if-then rules. For different types of rule sets the paper presents two methods the interval-training method and the parameter-training method to change the inputs and Outputs of the network. The interval-training method, intervals corresponding different memberships are as inputs and Outputs Of the network. The parameter-training method, the parameters representing the membership function of the linguistic value are as inputs and Outputs. During simulation we compare the two methods in terms of the approximation ability to rules, the computation time and the generalization ability. Simulation results show that the two methods are suitable for different rule-sets and both have good approximation ability and generalization ability. While the parameter-training method costs less time to approximate rule-sets.

Abstract:Based on the wavelet transform, we present a fuzzy wavelet network (FWN) for approximating arbitrary nonlinear function. Compared with the other methods, the FWN with B-spline wavelet has more frequency information. The approximation capability is proved. Simulation examples are given for static system and dynamic system respectively. The presented FWN not only reserves the multi-resolution capability of WNN, but also has the advantages of the approximation accuracy and good generalization performance.

Abstract:For wavelets network with high-dimensional inputs,both the initial parameters and network structure are very complicated,and the amount of computation is large.Toward this problem,a new method is proposed using support vector machine(SVM) to ascertain both the initial parameters and network structure of wavelet network.At first,the supervised fuzzy clustering algorithm is used to extract fuzzy rule from clustering.And then,for the consequent rule,SVM is applied to both the initial parameters and the network structure of wavelet network.Finally,gradient descent algorithm is adopted to adjust the parameters of fuzzy wavelet network so as to make the error between the outputs of fuzzy wavelet network and the expectant outputs is less.Simulation result shows that this algorithm can greatly improve the classification precision comparing to traditional fuzzy neural network(FNN).

Abstract:An architecture for neural networks that can handle fuzzy input vectors is proposed, and learning algorithms that utilize fuzzy if-then rules as well as numerical data in neural network learning for classification problems and for fuzzy control problems are derived. The learning algorithms can be viewed as an extension of the backpropagation algorithm to the case of fuzzy input vectors and fuzzy target outputs. Using the proposed methods, linguistic knowledge from human experts represented by fuzzy if-then rules and numerical data from measuring instruments can be integrated into a single information processing system (classification system or fuzzy control system). It is shown that the scheme works well for simple examples.<>

IF/THEN rules and Digital Data are used in the classification system based on the multi-source information fusion. A fuzzy neural architecture is given to process fuzzy input vectors and output fuzzy value. A method that can clarify given non-linear real intervals or fuzzy vectors is given. Abstract:Interpolation and classification are widely used in image processing and pattern recognition, including remote sensed image processing. In fact, interpolation and classification can be considered as problems of optimisation, i.e., finding an optimal mapping from the value space of variables to the value space of the function, or from the feature space to the class space. Different methods are used, some are based on known numerical data, and the others, on expert rules. In general, they have difficulty to integrate both the knowledge of experts and that implied in known numerical training samples. In the present paper, we propose to use neural fuzzy systems with asymmetric pi membership functions. A new global criterion to optimise and the corresponding learning algorithm are proposed also. To test the performance of the system proposed we apply it to interpolation and classification problems. The comparison with other methods shows better behavior of such systems. The neural fuzzy system using asymmetric pi membership functions has the following advantages : 1) Asymmetric pi membership function gives a more general model of fuzzy rules, improving the precision of neural fuzzy system and assuring a good convergence in learning. 2) The neural fuzzy system can integrate both kinds of knowledges. 3) The neural fuzzy system allows a refinement of the expert knowledge, and the new fuzzy rules found are easy to interprete.

Abstract:In this study, we propose a concept of fuzzy wavelet polynomial neural networks (FWPNNs) based on concepts and constructs of polynomial neural networks and fuzzy wavelet neurons (FWNs). These networks exhibit a rule-based architecture while each rule in the FWN consists of the premise part and consequence part. The premise part is realized by using C-means clustering method, while the consequence part is realized by means of wavelet functions whose parameters are estimated with the aid of the least square method. In some sense, the FWPNN can be regarded as a generalized fuzzy wavelet neural network (FWNN). Unlike Gaussian membership functions that are commonly utilized to implement the premise part of the rules in typical FWNNs, C-means method is employed here to overcome a possible curse of dimensionality. Polynomial neural networks (PNNs) are used to express the nonlinearity of a complex system. Furthermore, the particle swarm optimization is used to optimize the design parameters of the proposed network. Based on the PNNs and FWNNs, the proposed FWPNNs take advantages of these two neural networks: it exhibits the abilities to describe high-order nonlinear relations between input and output variables and it is beneficial to describe models impacted by uncertainty. The proposed FWPNNs are applied for time-series prediction and regression problems (e.g., control of dynamic plants). Several well-known modeling benchmarks including regression and time series are considered to evaluate the performance of the proposed FWPNNs. A comparative analysis shows that the proposed FWPNNs result in better performance when comparing with some previous models reported in the literature.

Abstract:Interpolation problem by a wavelet neural network is discussed.In 1-dimension case,for given 1-dimensional interpolated samples,a single hidden layer feed-forward neural network(called a wavelet neural network,WNN) is constructed by using a continuous wavelet function as the activation function.Under certain condition,the existence of the exact interpolation wavelet neural network(EIWNN) is proved first,and the approximate interpolation wavelet neural network(AIWNN) is constructed.Meanwhile,an estimation of the deviation between EIWNN and AIWNN is obtained.For given multi-dimensional interpolated samples,by considering the inner products of the interpolation nodes and some point and using the obtained results for 1-dimension case,the exact and approximate interpolation wavelet neural networks are constructed,and an estimation of the deviation between them is proved.

Abstract:Fuzzy cognitive maps (FCMs) are fuzzy influence graphs which consist of concepts and weighted edges. Various transfer functions have been applied in modelling and simulating the dynamic system of FCMs. In FCMs, transfer function is used to bound the expression level of nodes to a certain range. Therefore, in this paper, we first use wavelet transfer function, and then combine it with FCMs to form wavelet FCMs (WFCM). The wavelet function is a kind of local functions that has limited duration and an average value of zero. Then, we conduct comprehensive analyses over existing transfer functions using synthetic data, real data and pattern classification problems. Finally, according to analysis, a new method involving the selection of transfer functions in the optimization process for pattern classification problems is proposed. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Still, findings show how the existing functions offer different capacities to deal with both problems.

Abstract:Wavelet theory is a useful tool for function estimation and signal processing. However, wavelets are usually limited to small dimension because constructing and storing wavelet basis of . large dimension is very difficult. In recent years, neural networks, which can handle problems of large dimension efficiently, are introduced into the wavelet theory. Wavelet Networks (WNs) have been developed very rapidly for their abilities of self-learning and self-organizing. Nevertheless, the implementation of neural networks suffers from the lack of efficient constructive methods for choosing network structure and determining the parameters of neurons. And the knowledge that WN acquired from examples can't be described. This paper combines fuzzy control with WN to constitute a fuzzy wavelet network (FWN) to solve these problems. The proposed FWN uses WN to realize fuzzfication, fuzzy inference and defuzzification. The structure of FWN is very easy to be determined, the knowledge inside FWN can be interpreted in linguistic form and FWN can be initialized easily. Finally, in simulations, the proposed FWN is used to identify a two-joint robot manipulator and compared with the results of WN. The results confirm the effectiveness of FWN.

Abstract:In this paper, it proposes fuzzy neural network(NN) system which is used for management decision-making and composed of three separate networks. The system's input can be both figures and vector language. The system's output exceeds the standard neural network - two-valued logic state. Based on the ambiguity function, NN's back-propagation algorithm and the monotonic function NN model the paper proposes the learning algorithm which is suitable for the fuzzy neural network. The system can well adapt to the management problems which are complex and ambiguous.

Abstract:Fuzzy rule derivation is often difficult and time-consuming, and requires expert knowledge. This creates a common bottleneck in fuzzy system design. In order to solve this problem, many fuzzy systems that automatically generate fuzzy rules from numerical data have been proposed. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy neural network based on mutual subsethood (MSBFNN) and its fuzzy rule identification algorithms. In our approach, fuzzy rules are described by different fuzzy sets. For each fuzzy set representing a fuzzy rule, the universe of discourse is defined as the summation of weighted membership grades of input linguistic terms that associate with the given fuzzy rule. In this manner, MSBFNN fully considers the contribution of input variables to the joint firing strength of fuzzy rules. Afterwards, the proposed fuzzy neural network quantifies the impacts of fuzzy rules on the consequent parts by fuzzy connections based on mutual subsethood. Furthermore, to enhance the knowledge representation and interpretation of the rules, a linear transformation from consequent parts to output is incorporated into MSBFNN so that higher accuracy can be achieved. In the parameter identification phase, the backpropagation algorithm is employed, and proper linear transformation is also determined dynamically. To demonstrate the capability of the MSBFNN, simulations in different areas including classification, regression and time series prediction are conducted. The proposed MSBFNN shows encouraging performance when benchmarked against other models.

Abstract:Fuzzy rule interpolation (FRI) enables sparse fuzzy rule-based systems to derive an interpolated conclusion using neighboring rules, when presented with an observation that matches none of the given rules. The efficacy of FRI has been further empowered by the recent development of weighted FRI techniques, particularly the one that introduces attribute weights of rule antecedents from the given rule base, removing the conventional assumption of antecedent attributes having equal weighting or significance. However, such work was carried out within the specific transformation-based FRI mechanism. This short paper reports the results of generalizing it through enhancing two alternative representative FRI methods. The resultant weighted FRI algorithms facilitate the individual attribute weights to be integrated throughout the corresponding procedures of the conventional unweighted methods. With systematical comparative evaluations over benchmark classification problems, it is empirically demonstrated that these algorithms work effectively and efficiently using just two nearest neighboring rules.
