Abstract:CdSe clusters were formed by encapsulation in Zeolite-Y. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) observations were made on the thin films of the materials. The results reveal that uniform and even CdSe clusters are formed successfully inside the zeolite.

Abstract:Monodisperse CdSe quantum dots were synthesized by TOPO assisted reaction in nonaqueous solution.The samples were characterized using transmission electron microscopy,X-ray powder diffraction,size distribution histograms,UV-vis absorption and photoluminescence spectra.The results indicate that the monodisperse quantum dots exhibit zinc blende(cubic)diffraction patterns and high PL quantum yield.Moreover,the mechanism of formation of zinc blende structure was preliminarily discussed.

Abstract:CdSe nanoclusters overcoated with CdS shell were prepared with macapoacetic acid as stabilizer. The optical properties of CdSe nanoclusters and the influence of CdS shell on the electronic structures of CdSe cores were studied by optical absorption, photoluminescence (PL) and photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectroscopies. Based on PL and PLE results and the theoretical calculation on fine structure of bandedge exciton, a model of formation of excimer within the small clusters was proposed to explain the large Stokes shift of luminescence from absorption edge observed in PL results.

Abstract:With the use of elemental metals and selenium as resource materials, ZnSe and CdSe nanocrystals have been prepared through an aqueous method at temperature as low as 80°C in alkaline medium. The products were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectrum (XPS). Two kinds of chemical mechanisms for the formation of the products and the influence of experimental conditions are discussed.

Abstract:The water-soluble CdSe/ZnS core-shell nanoparticles have been synthesized by using L-cysteine hydrochloride as stabilizer. The optical properties of CdSe nanoclusters and the influence of ZnS shell on the CdSe core were studied by UV-Vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. A remarkable emission enhancement with a factor of 3.5 for CdSe/ZnS core-shell nanoparticles in the intensity was observed compared to the CdSe nanoparticles. The maximum emission wavelength of CdSe/ZnS nanoparticles had a slight redshift. The absorption spectrum of CdSe/ZnS core-shell structure showed a small redshift as compared to the CdSe core. TEM, ED and XPS were used to characterize the size, shape and composition of CdSe/ZnS nanoclusters. Results of FT-IR show that sulfur and oxygen atoms in L-cysteine molecules took part in coordination with metal ions on the surface of the nanoparticles. There also existed amino-group on the surface of the core-shell nanoparticles. The above results demonstrate that the CdSe/ZnS nanoparticles are with a high degree of size-distribution and monodispersity in addition to the superior chemical stability and good optical characteristics.

Abstract:Zinc blende (ZB) CdSe hollow nanospheres were solvothermally synthesized from the reaction of Cd(NO3)2·4H2O with a homogeneously secondary Se source, which was first prepared by dissolving Se powder in the mixture of ethanol and oleic acid at 205°C. As Se power directly reacted with Cd(NO3)2·4H2O in the above mixed solvents, wurtzite (W) CdSe solid nanoparticles were produced. Time-dependent experiments suggested that the formation of CdSe hollow nanospheres was attributed to an inside-out Ostwald ripening process. The influences of reaction time, temperature and ethanol/oleic acid volume ratio on the morphology, phase and size of the hollow nanospheres were also studied. Infrared (IR) spectroscopy investigations revealed that oleic acid with long alkene chains behaved as a reducing agent to reduce Se powder to Se2− in the synthesis. Photoluminescence (PL) measurements showed that the ZB CdSe hollow nanospheres presented an obvious blue-shifted emission by 42nm, and the W CdSe solid nanoparticles exhibited a band gap emission of bulk counterpart.

Abstract:We report comparative study of core/shell nanocrystals based on wurtzite and novel zinc-blende CdSe core. Both wurtzite and zinc-blende CdSe are coated with CdS shell or CdS/ZnS multishell under identical synthetic parameters. Crystal structure analysis finds that CdS shell is wurtzite on either wurtzite or zinc-blende CdSe cores. Morphology and photoluminescence studies exhibit that for zinc-blende CdSe based samples, the shell growth is in fine epitaxy and the obtained core/shell nanocrystals show high quantum yield both before and after surface modification process; while wurtzite CdSe based samples have irregular shape indicating inhomogeneous shell growth, and are with lower quantum yield. Furthermore, in the photoluminescence spectra exited with UV radiation, wurtzite CdSe based samples show side peaks of independently nucleated nanocrystals from the shell material; while samples with zinc-blende CdSe cores are potent in restricting these byproducts, which may attribute to the highly effective arrestment of precursor ions onto the zinc-blende CdSe surface. These features manifest that zinc-blende CdSe is more talented than conventional wurtzite CdSe in achieving core/shell nanocrystals with higher qualities.
Formation, structure and fluorescence of CdS clusters in a mesoporous zeolite

Abstract:CdS clusters are formed in the pores of a mesoporous zeolite in which the size of the clusters may be adjusted. The size of the clusters increases as the CdS loading is increased. X-ray diffraction investigation shows that the lattice constants of the clusters contract upon increasing size. This contraction is attributed to an increase of the static pressure exercised by the zeolite framework as the clusters grow bigger. Both the excitonic and trapped emission bands are detected and become more intensive upon decreasing size. Three absorption bands appear in the photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectra and they shift to the blue as cluster size decreases. Based on the effective-mass approximation, the three bands are assigned to the 1S-1S, 1S-1P and 1S-1D transitions, respectively. The size-dependence of the PLE spectra can also be explained. Abstract:Systematically shape-controlled synthesis of inorganic nanocrystals has attracted increasing attention recently for both fundamental and technological interest. The shape evolution of CdSe nanocrystals with wurtzite structure in a unified method has been previously well studied, while the study on shape evolution of CdSe nanocrystals with zinc blende structure still remains challenging. Here, we demonstrate a systematic shape variation of zinc blende CdSe nanocrystals in a modified organometallic approach, in which distinct shapes of cube-shaped, sphere-shaped, tetrahedron-shaped, and branched CdSe nanocrystals with high yield and good uniformity are obtained. The crucial factor that influences the shape-controlled process is the reactive temperature. This wide variation of shapes provides important information about the growth of CdSe nanocrystals, and it can also help in the shape-controlled synthesis of other nanocrystals that are bound with uniform crystal planes.

Abstract:Semiconductor materials composed of CdSe nanocrystals (NCs) were synthesized in the pores of mesoporous silica (MS) through direct reaction between Cd ions and a selenosulfate solution at low temperatures (from −10°C to room temperature). The negatively charged MS favours a coating of the positively charged Cd composite. Thus, Cd ions were adsorbed to the Si–OH groups to form Cd–O–Si through electrostatic interaction. The sizes of the CdSe nanocrystals were mainly determined by the pore size of the MS spheres. After expanding the pore size of MS spheres, two different pore sizes were found: ∼3.2 and ∼9.7nm. Thus, two differently sized CdSe nanocrystals were formed in the pores of MS spheres. The size of CdSe nanocrystals showed a dependence on the pore size of the MS spheres. This result is believed to involve the photoluminescence (PL) band originating from band-to-band transition or surface states. Measurements and analysis of X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectrometry, selected area electron diffraction and PL spectra showed that the CdSe nanocrystals obtained had good crystallinity and were almost perfectly inserted into the pores of the MS spheres, which created a fluorescence emission.

Abstract:Colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals have attracted widespread attention due to their tremendous electrical and optical properties. Nanoparticles exhibit a strong tendency to aggregate and sinter in a short period of time during processing or use due to their large surface area-to-volume ratio, which may lead to significant changes in their required performance. Therefore, it is of great significance to conduct in-depth research on the sintering process and mechanism of nanoparticles to maintain their stability. Here, the sintering process of CdSe/CdS core/shell nanocrystals under continuous electron beam irradiation was studied using in situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In the early stages of sintering, CdSe/CdS nanocrystals approached each other at a distance of approximately 1–2 nm. As the exposure time to the electron beam increased, the movement of surface atoms on the nanocrystals led to contact between them. Subsequently, the atoms on the contact surfaces underwent rapid motion, resulting in the rapid formation of the neck between the particles. The neck formation between adjacent particles provides strong evidence of a sintering mechanism dominated by surface atom diffusion rather than Ostwald ripening. Further research in this area could lead to the development of improved methods to prevent sintering and enhance the stability of nanocrystals, ultimately contributing to the advancement of nanomaterial-based devices and materials with long-lasting performance.

Abstract:CdSe nanocrystals were synthesized in tributylphophine (TBP) and tri-n-octylphosphine (TOPO) solvent by using a soft chemistry method. In contract to other methods, the reagent was injected several times while keeping the temperature over a period of time. TEM, AFM UV-vis were used to show the structure character of the nanocrystals. The formation mechanism of the nanocrystals was also discussed. The as-synthesized nanocrystal is shaped like a triangle cone with nearly equal sides of 60nm.

Abstract:ZnSe/ZnS core/shell nanocrystals (NCs) with strong photoluminescence (PL) intensity and improved photochemical stability are synthesized through a simple water bath reflux route. Diffraction peaks can be indexed by zinc blend structure of ZnSe and ZnS. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) images reveal that each ZnSe NC (27 nm) is coated by a ZnS epitaxial shell. The ZnS shells are constitutive of crystalline and amorphous ZnS NC film with average thickness of 5 nm thick. The photoluminescence of ZnSe/ZnS core/shell NCs is also remarkably improved, which can be approved by the PL spectrum and laser-scanning confocal microscope test. (C) 2011 Elsevier B. V. Abstract:The morphological manipulation, structural characterization, and photoluminescence properties of different CdSe nanocrystals are reported. Several different CdSe structures, including nanowires, nanorods, nanoparticles, and tetrapod crystals, have been grown on silicon substrates by means of simple, Si-assisted chemical vapor deposition. By manipulating the growth driving force (i.e., the degree of supersaturation), the morphology of the CdSe nanocrystals can be varied sequentially from nanowires/nanorods to nanoparticles to tetrapod structures. The optical properties of the CdSe nanocrystals are investigated using photoluminescence spectroscopy. Some thermodynamic models are proposed to explain the results.

Abstract:By using scanning near-field optical microscopy in the femtosecond time-resolved pump-probe experiments, we have studied the time-resolved near-field spectroscopy of CdSe nanocluster films. The submicrometer space dependence of electron dynamics was observed, which is attributed to the non-uniform distributions of interstitial defects in the films.

Abstract:Gold (Au)-cadmium sulfide (CdS) nanocomposites have attracted widespread attention for semiconductor-based photocatalysis applications. Understanding the dynamic behaviours of Au-CdS nanoclusters (NCs) in liquid solution is critical for fine control of the Au-CdS composite structure, and helps the design and development of future materials with improved catalytic properties. Here, we report the direct observation of the dynamic behaviours of Au and CdS NCs in water and in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) aqueous solution by in situ liquid cell transmission electron microscopy (LC-TEM). Electron beam induced liquid motion/bubble formation is found to be effective in guiding the NCs' motion and interaction behaviours. The Au and CdS NCs combined better with each other in the DMF aqueous solution than in pure water. Around a thicker DMF solution region, liquid droplets keep growing, and show an overlap-like phenomenon in the TEM images due to their 3-D morphologies. The proceeding liquid solution front can further facilitate the lighter CdS to dynamically approach and connect with the heavier Au NCs. On the other hand, in the thinner DMF solution regions, electron beam irradiation not only caused bubble formation and growth, but also induced dissolution of the CdS in the composite. These results can provide in-depth understanding of nanoscale liquid-solid interactions for the development of future semiconductor-metal composite structures.
The Formation of Close-Packed Two-Dimensional CdSe Colloidal Films by Electric-Field-Induced Deposition

Abstract:Monodispersed CdSe nanocrystals with average diameter of ∼5 nm were synthesized from SeSO 3 2− and rich Cd 2+ ionic reagents in aqueous solution. Two-dimensional (2D) close-packed colloidal CdSe films were formed on the electrode surface by electric-field induced deposition method. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images show that colloidal CdSe films exhibit different states, named “gas”, “liquid” and “solid” states, which can be transformed by adjusting applied field (E) or deposition time (T). The experimental results demonstrate that the average nearest-neighbor distance of clusters on the electrode surface is inversely proportional to the ET product.

Abstract:CdSe micro/nanocrystals with multiform morphologies, including multi-foots rods, flower-like structures and hollow spheres, have been successfully synthesized by a facile solvothermal method in ethylene glycol (EG). These morphologies could be achieved simply by varying the cadmium source. In addition, different crystal phases of the as-obtained CdSe micro/nanocrystals have also been successfully controlled. Furthermore, the possible growth mechanism for different morphologies and crystal phases of CdSe micro/nanocrystals were also discussed.

Abstract:Coated CdSe/CdS nanocrystals have been synthesized through a new reaction routine in micelle solution. High-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM) images demonstrated the monodispersity and core-shell structure of CdSe/CdS nanocrystals. After CdSe nanocrystals were passivated by CdS shell, the reduced photoluminescence (PL) intensity of surface states and enhanced band-edge emission have been observed. The enhanced photo-chemical stability of coated CdSe/CdS nanocrystals has also been demonstrated from photo oxidation experiments. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Transparent ZnSe/SiO 2 nanocomposites were prepared using a sol–gel technique which was followed by a reductive thermal treatment. The several approaches for avoiding the aggregation of ZnSe nanocrystals (NCs) doped in silica gel-glass were presented and adopted compositely during the preparation process. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV–Vis optical absorption, and Raman scattering were used to study the microstructural properties of the nanocomposites. All nanocomposites were found to show significant finite size effects as characterized by the broadened XRD peaks, blueshifts of the interband optical absorption edge, and the asymmetric broadening of the Raman scatterings. The structure and properties were correlated and discussed.
