Abstract:The theory of MPEG-2 source decoding is studied, and how to implement an MPEG-2 source decoder is also presented. The method of synchronization of audio and video is described in details. The source decoder is completely achieved, and the picture can be shown in real time. The decoder will be made into a DVD product.

Abstract:This paper presents a novel architecture of MPEG audio decoder, the input audio stream will not be serialized before decoding. Barrel shift register is used to fetch data from input buffer, which improves the efficiency of decoding process substantially. Dedicated hardware is designed to deal with input and degroup. In this scheme, the computation amount of bottleneck module can be reduced to one-fourths of the original one, and the memory storage requires half of the standard synthesis filter bank. This decoder can be used in DVB and DAB source decoding and etc.

Abstract:Synchronization of audio/video is one of the difficulties in digital TV system real-time decoding. The timing information in MPEG-2 transport stream and its function on synchronizing the audio and video is pointed out in this paper. Two methods to recover the system time clock are discussed in detail: a synchronization scheme by PLL and a simple non-PLL digital scheme. Using the repeat frame and skip frame manner to make it resynchronized when losing synchronization with audio and video in decoding process. The algorithm and several circuit designs here are proper for all kinds of MPEG-2 decoders.

Abstract:With the development of general-purpose processors (GPP) and video signal processing algorithms, it is possible to implement a software-based real-time video encoder on GPP, and its low cost and easy upgrade attract developers' interests to transfer video encoding from specialized hardware to more flexible software. In this paper, the encoding structure is set up first to support complexity scalability; then a lot of high performance algorithms are used on the key time-consuming modules in coding process; finally, at programming level, processor characteristics are considered to improve data access efficiency and processing parallelism. Other programming methods such as lookup table are adopted to reduce the computational complexity. Simulation results showed that these ideas could not only improve the global performance of video coding, but also provide great flexibility in complexity regulation.

Abstract:The digital video broadcast-satellite (DVB-S) system is a new methodology for MPE G-II decoding. An entire software based on MPEG-II decoding scheme for a pract ical DVB-S system is presented, including schemes for the multiple thread arran gement, buffer management, synchronization of video and audio display. The syste m incorporates various MPEG-II video decoding optimization methods for Windows such as the single instruction multi-data SIMD technique, MMX and SSE and effec tive cache management techniques. The system has successfully received 40 digit al TV signals while simultaneously decoding and displaying the programs in real -time, and is a flexible practical solution for DVB-S.

Abstract:To reduce the computational amount and memory size of the HDTV(for DVB) audio decoder, the algorithm of sub-band synthesis filter has been optimized in this paper. Based on C-language simulation of the optimized decoder, fixed-point code has been converted from the floating-point code. This decoder can be realized in real-time on a fixed-point DSP, and it has a wide range of applications in HDTV source decoding and etc.

Abstract:Aiming at the problems of the falling decoded video quality of H.264/SVC (Scalable Video Coding) in the error prone transmission network, this paper proposes real-time feedback-based interactive error control methods suitable for low bit rate transmission. These methods make full use of the inter-layer prediction of spatial layers, improves the conventional feedback-based intra macro block (MB) update and references picture selection (RPS) error resilience techniques. The methods were tested using SVC common test conditions. Simulation results show that the average Y-PSNR of decoded pictures can achieve around 1.78dB gains using the best proposed method compared with the relative methods.

Abstract:We describe a HDTV source decoder that is part of the Chinese national HDTV functional prototype project. The decoder can decode in real-time the MPEG-2 transport stream at a bit rate of up to 60 Mbps. The system cross-divides the HDTV images to 4 SDTV images and use four MPEG-2 MP@ML video decoders which work in parallel. This new approach leads to a good system performance, less design time, lower total cost and compatibility to SDTV. The decoder has been tested in Beijing and Shanghai and the image quality is very good

Abstract:The way to decode and then play back the MPEG-4 video stream was brought forward by exploiting IEKC64 which is based on DSP TMS320C64x.The whole process of designing the software for decoding and playback was probed.The central idea of the main program was discussed.The primary API functions was explained which were exploited in this project,and some pivotal codes were made clear in the main program.In the end,some advice for further improvement was given.

Abstract:MPEG-4 is applied to varieties of current and future multimedia applications. The standard not only supports existed frame-based coding standards such as MPEG-1, MTEG-2 or H.263, but also provides content-based representation and flexible toolbox, which lead to MPEG-4 more complicated. This paper first briefly presents the implementation method of the video decoding of MPEG-4 Core Visual Profile, which is a subset of MPEG-4 standard. The Core Visual Profile is quite suitable to streaming video, which will possibly become the hot spot for the development of MPEG-4. Then, the paper proposes a design scheme for the basic hardware structure of the decoding system based on TMS320C6X DSP, and simply analyzes the decoding processing of the system.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a real time HDTV decoder chip that has a bit-rate up to 80Mbps. In this design, a parallel and pipelined architecture is adopted, which could reduce latency and lower the processing frequency. It has reasonable memory access arbitration scheme so that a smaller buffer size could be achieved. We have also used two external SDRAMs to separate the storage of reference frame and displayed picture in order to satisfy bandwidth requirement. Therefore, the transferring frequency need not to be raised, which could further reduce power dissipation. It has been successfully taped out with 0.18 μm CMOS technology.

Abstract:A cross-platform multimedia library designed to provide low level access to kinds of multimedia devices has been introduced in this paper.The structure of decoder is also discussed.It is mainly that to keep real-time with the control of the thread,decode video with codec and play video with the functions offered by SDL.There is a method of how to decode and play real-time video with SDL.The test shows us that the rate of decode and play is about 20 frames per second.The program can be use in both Windows and Linux.

Abstract:This paper presents a new architecture style for the design of inverse scan and inverse quantisation for MPEG-2 video decoder, based on the description of their algorithm according to MPEG-2 standard. For inverse quantisation, a modified partial product generator based on Modified Booth's Algorithm is introduced, and the partial products are summed up by Wallace tree. The design implementation is described in high level RTL (register transfer level) code, which is completely technology independent and can be easily converted from one technology to another. For the verification purpose, the core, synthesized by 0.35mum CMOS cells library, costs only 2,800 gates when it works in 80 MHz. Therefore, it can be used in MPEG-2 video decoder operating in real time.

Abstract:Joint source-channel coding schemes have been proven to be effective ways for reliable multimedia communications. In this paper, a joint source-channel decoding (JSCD) scheme that combines the hidden Markov source (HMS) estimation and low-density parity-check (LDPC) coding is proposed for the standard MPEG-2 video transmission. The LDPC code of the proposed scheme has a near-Shannon-limit error-correcting capability, while the HMS estimator may accurately extract the residual redundancy within the MPEG-2 video stream without any prior information. Furthermore, with a joint iterative decoding algorithm, the estimated source redundancy may be well exploited by the LDPC decoder, and the channel decoding feedback may refine the subsequence HMS estimation, thereby effectively improving the system performance. On the other hand, we also show that the proposed JSCD scheme has approximately the same computation complexity as that of the standard decoding scheme. Moreover, it is worth noting that the proposed scheme is based on separation encoding schemes, which is very convenient to be applied to existing multimedia transmission systems.
