Abstract:The accumulation calculus (AC for short) is an interval based temporal logic to specify and reason about hybrid real-time systems. This paper presents a formal proof system for AC, and proves that the system is complete relative to that of Interval Temporal Logic (ITL for short) on real domain.

Abstract:Hybrid systems are heterogenous dynamical systems characterized by interacting continuous and discrete dynamics. Interval Temporal Logic (ITL) is a temporal logic which includes a basic construct for the sequential composition of two formulas as well as an analog of Kleene star. In this paper, Interval Temporal Logic is applied to represent the hybrid systems. This method is demonstrated by an example in water industry systems.

Abstract:Theaccumulation strategy consists of generalizing a function over an algebraic data structure by inclusion of an extra parameter, anaccumulating parameter, for reusing and propagating intermediate results. However, there remain two major difficulties in this accumulation strategy. One is to determinewhere andwhen to generalize the original function. The other, surprisingly not yet receiving its worthy consideration, is how to manipulate accumulations. To overcome these difficulties, we propose to formulate accumulations ashigher order catamorphisms, and provide several general transformation rules for calculating accumulations (i.e., finding and manipulating accumulations) bycalculation-based (rather than a search-based) program transformation methods. Some examples are given for illustration.

Abstract:Abstract Hybrid logic is one of the extensions of modal logic. The many-dimensional product of hybrid logic is called hybrid product logic (HPL). We construct a sound and complete tableau calculus for two-dimensional HPL. Also, we made a tableau calculus for hybrid dependent product logic (HdPL), where one dimension depends on the other. In addition, we add a special rule to the tableau calculus for HdPL and show that it is still sound and complete. All of them lack termination, however.

Some General Completeness Results for Propositionally Quantified Modal Logics

Abstract:We study the completeness problem for propositionally quantified modal logics on quantifiable general frames, where the admissible sets are the propositions the quantifiers can range over and expressible sets of worlds are admissible, and Kripke frames, where the quantifiers range over all sets of worlds. We show that any normal propositionally quantified modal logic containing all instances of the Barcan scheme is strongly complete with respect to the class of quantifiable general frames validating it. We also provide a sufficient condition for the truth of all formulas, possibly with quantifiers, to be preserved under passing from a quantifiable general frame to its underlying Kripke frame. This is reminiscent of both the idea of elementary submodel in model theory and the persistence concepts in propositional modal logic. The key to this condition is the concept of finite diversity (Fritz 2023), and with it, we show that if $\Theta$ is a set of Sahlqvist formulas whose class of Kripke frames has finite diversity, then the smallest normal propositionally quantified modal logic containing $\Theta$, Barcan, a formula stating the existence of world propositions, and a formula stating the definability of successor sets, is Kripke complete. As a special case, we have a simple finite axiomatization of the logic of Euclidean Kripke frames.

Abstract:In order to find the completeness threshold which offers a practical method of making bounded model checking complete, the over-approximation for the complete threshold is presented. First, a linear logic of knowledge is introduced into the past tense operator, and then a new temporal epistemic logic LTLKP is obtained, so that LTLKP can naturally and precisely describe the calculate the maximal reachable depth and the length of the longest of loop free paths in the structure based on the graph structure theory. Finally, some theorems are proposed to show how to approximate the complete threshold with the diameter and recurrence diameter. The proposed work resolves the completeness threshold problem so that the completeness of bounded model checking can be guaranteed.

Abstract:In this work, we continue our study on discrete abstractions of dynamical systems. To this end, we use a family of partitioning functions to generate an abstraction. The intersection of sub-level sets of the partitioning functions defines cells, which are regarded as discrete objects. The union of cells makes up the state space of the dynamical systems. Our construction gives rise to a combinatorial object - a timed automaton. We examine sound and complete abstractions. An abstraction is said to be sound when the flow of the time automata covers the flow lines of the dynamical systems. If the dynamics of the dynamical system and the time automaton are equivalent, the abstraction is complete. The commonly accepted paradigm for partitioning functions is that they ought to be transversal to the studied vector field. We show that there is no complete partitioning with transversal functions, even for particular dynamical systems whose critical sets are isolated critical points. Therefore, we allow the directional derivative along the vector field to be non-positive in this work. This considerably complicates the abstraction technique. For understanding dynamical systems, it is vital to study stable and unstable manifolds and their intersections. These objects appear naturally in this work. Indeed, we show that for an abstraction to be complete, the set of critical points of an abstraction function shall contain either the stable or unstable manifold of the dynamical system.

ZX-calculus is Complete for Finite-Dimensional Hilbert Spaces

Abstract:The ZX-calculus is a graphical language for reasoning about quantum computing and quantum information theory. As a complete graphical language, it incorporates a set of axioms rich enough to derive any equation of the underlying formalism. While completeness of the ZX-calculus has been established for qubits and the Clifford fragment of prime-dimensional qudits, universal completeness beyond two-level systems has remained unproven until now. In this paper, we present a proof establishing the completeness of finite-dimensional ZX-calculus, incorporating only the mixed-dimensional Z-spider and the qudit X-spider as generators. Our approach builds on the completeness of another graphical language, the finite-dimensional ZW-calculus, with direct translations between these two calculi. By proving its completeness, we lay a solid foundation for the ZX-calculus as a versatile tool not only for quantum computation but also for various fields within finite-dimensional quantum theory.

Abstract:Hypersequent calculus GŁ$\forall$ for first-order Łukasiewicz logic was first introduced by Baaz and Metcalfe, along with a proof of its approximate completeness with respect to standard $[0,1]$-semantics. The completeness result was later pointed out by Gerasimov that it only applies to prenex formulas. In this paper, we will present our proof of approximate completeness of GŁ$\forall$ for arbitrary first-order formulas by generalizing the original completeness proof to hypersequents.

Abstract:Hybrid logic is a modal logic with additional operators specifying nominals and is highly expressive. For example, there is no formula corresponding to the irreflexivity of Kripke frames in basic modal logic, but there is in hybrid logic. Irreflexivity is significant in that irreflexive and symmetric Kripke frames can be regarded as undirected graphs reviewed from a graph theoretic point of view. Thus, the study of the hybrid logic with axioms corresponding to irreflexivity and symmetry can help to elucidate the logical properties of undirected graphs. In this paper, we formulate the tableau method of the hybrid logic for undirected graphs. Our main result is to show the completeness theorem and the termination property of the tableau method, which leads us to prove the decidability.

Abstract:Our main result (Theorem A) shows the incompleteness of any consistent sequential theory T T formulated in a finite language such that T T is axiomatized by a collection of sentences of bounded quantifier-alternation-depth. Our proof employs an appropriate reduction mechanism to rule out the possibility of completeness by simply invoking Tarski's Undefinability of Truth theorem. We also use the proof strategy of Theorem A to obtain other incompleteness results.

Abstract:Indexed Linear Temporal Logics (ILTL) are an extension of standard Linear Temporal Logics (LTL) with quantifications over index variables which range over a set of process identifiers. ILTL has been widely used in specifying and verifying properties of parameterised systems, e.g., in parameterised model checking of concurrent processes. However there is still a lack of theoretical investigations on properties of ILTL, compared to the well-studied LTL. In this paper, we start to narrow this gap, focusing on the satisfiability problem, i.e., to decide whether a model exists for a given formula. This problem is in general undecidable. Various fragments of ILTL have been considered in the literature typically in parameterised model checking, e.g., ILTL formulae in prenex normal form, or containing only non-nested quantifiers, or admitting limited temporal operators. We carry out a thorough study on the decidability and complexity of the satisfiability problem for these fragments. Namely, for each fragment, we either show that it is undecidable, or otherwise provide tight complexity bounds.
On the Relative Completeness of Satisfaction-based Quantum Hoare Logic

Abstract:Quantum Hoare logic (QHL) is a formal verification tool specifically designed to ensure the correctness of quantum programs. There has been an ongoing challenge to achieve a relatively complete satisfaction-based QHL with while-loop since its inception in 2006. This paper presents a solution by proposing the first relatively complete satisfaction-based QHL with while-loop. The completeness is proved in two steps. First, we establish a semantics and proof system of Hoare triples with quantum programs and deterministic assertions. Then, by utilizing the weakest precondition of deterministic assertion, we construct the weakest preterm calculus of probabilistic expressions. The relative completeness of QHL is then obtained as a consequence of the weakest preterm calculus. Using our QHL, we formally verify the correctness of Deutsch's algorithm and quantum teleportation.

On A Semi-Automatic Method for Generating Composition Tables

Abstract:Originating from Allen's Interval Algebra, composition-based reasoning has been widely acknowledged as the most popular reasoning technique in qualitative spatial and temporal reasoning. Given a qualitative calculus (i.e. a relation model), the first thing we should do is to establish its composition table (CT). In the past three decades, such work is usually done manually. This is undesirable and error-prone, given that the calculus may contain tens or hundreds of basic relations. Computing the correct CT has been identified by Tony Cohn as a challenge for computer scientists in 1995. This paper addresses this problem and introduces a semi-automatic method to compute the CT by randomly generating triples of elements. For several important qualitative calculi, our method can establish the correct CT in a reasonable short time. This is illustrated by applications to the Interval Algebra, the Region Connection Calculus RCC-8, the INDU calculus, and the Oriented Point Relation Algebras. Our method can also be used to generate CTs for customised qualitative calculi defined on restricted domains.

Completeness of qufinite ZXW calculus, a graphical language for finite-dimensional quantum theory

Abstract:Finite-dimensional quantum theory serves as the theoretical foundation for quantum information and computation. Mathematically, it is formalized in the category FHilb, comprising all finite-dimensional Hilbert spaces and linear maps between them. However, there has not been a graphical language for FHilb which is both universal and complete and thus incorporates a set of rules rich enough to derive any equality of the underlying formalism solely by rewriting. In this paper, we introduce the qufinite ZXW calculus - a graphical language for reasoning about finite-dimensional quantum theory. We set up a unique normal form to represent an arbitrary tensor and prove the completeness of this calculus by demonstrating that any qufinite ZXW diagram can be rewritten into its normal form. This result implies the equivalence of the qufinite ZXW calculus and the category FHilb, leading to a purely diagrammatic framework for finite-dimensional quantum theory with the same reasoning power. In addition, we identify several domains where the application of the qufinite ZXW calculus holds promise. These domains include spin networks, interacting mixed-dimensional systems in quantum chemistry, quantum programming, high-level description of quantum algorithms, and mixed-dimensional quantum computing. Our work paves the way for a comprehensive diagrammatic description of quantum physics, opening the doors of this area to the wider public.

Complete Dynamic Logic of Communicating Hybrid Programs

Abstract:This article presents a relatively complete proof calculus for the dynamic logic of communicating hybrid programs dLCHP. Beyond traditional hybrid systems mixing discrete and continuous dynamics, communicating hybrid programs feature parallel interactions of hybrid systems. This not only compounds the subtleties of hybrid and parallel systems but adds the truly simultaneous synchronized evolution of parallel hybrid dynamics as a new challenge. To enable compositional reasoning about communicating hybrid programs nevertheless, dLCHP combines differential dynamic logic dL and assumption-commitment reasoning. To maintain the logical essence of dynamic logic axiomatizations, dLCHP's proof calculus presents a new modal logic view onto ac-reasoning. This modal view drives a decomposition of classical monolithic proof rules for parallel systems reasoning into new modular axioms, which yields better flexibility and simplifies soundness arguments. Adequacy of the proof calculus is shown by two completeness results: First, dLCHP is complete relative to the logic of communication traces and differential equation properties. This result proves the new modular modal view sufficient for reasoning about parallel hybrid systems, and captures modular strategies for reasoning about concrete parallel hybrid systems. The second result proof-theoretically aligns dLCHP and dL by proving that reasoning about parallel hybrid systems is exactly as hard as reasoning about hybrid systems, continuous systems, or discrete systems. This completeness result reveals the possibility of representational succinctness in parallel hybrid systems proofs.

Abstract:Computation with mobility becomes a novel distributed computation paradigm with the development of network technology. The calculus of Mobile Ambient is a widely studied formal mechanism for describing both mobile computing and mobile computation. To improve this process calculus, Robust Mobile Ambient is introduced by providing co-actions. This paper deals with the modal logic for finite fragment of this calculus without communication primitives. In details, we compare standard behavioral equivalence with the equivalence induced by the logic (=L) and with the structural congruence. As a result, we prove the intensionality of the logic and at the same time, an axiomatization for = L is given.
Axiomatization of Compact Initial Value Problems: Open Properties

Abstract:This article proves the completeness of an axiomatization for initial value problems (IVPs) with compact initial conditions and compact time horizons for bounded open safety, open liveness and existence properties. Completeness systematically reduces the proofs of these properties to a complete axiomatization for differential equation invariants. This result unifies symbolic logic and numerical analysis by a computable procedure that generates symbolic proofs with differential invariants for rigorous error bounds of numerical solutions to polynomial initial value problems. The procedure is modular and works for all polynomial IVPs with rational coefficients and initial conditions and symbolic parameters constrained to compact sets. Furthermore, this paper discusses generalizations to IVPs with initial conditions/symbolic parameters that are not necessarily constrained to compact sets, achieved through the derivation of fully symbolic axioms/proof-rules based on the axiomatization.

Abstract:Modal fixpoint logics traditionally play a central role in computer science, in particular in artificial intelligence and concurrency. The mu-calculus and its relatives are among the most expressive logics of this type. However, popular fixpoint logics tend to trade expressivity for simplicity and readability, and in fact often live within the single variable fragment of the mu-calculus. The family of such flat fixpoint logics includes, e.g., LTL, CTL, and the logic of common knowledge. Extending this notion to the generic semantic framework of coalgebraic logic enables covering a wide range of logics beyond the standard mu-calculus including, e.g., flat fragments of the graded mu-calculus and the alternating-time mu-calculus (such as alternating-time temporal logic ATL), as well as probabilistic and monotone fixpoint logics. We give a generic proof of completeness of the Kozen-Park axiomatization for such flat coalgebraic fixpoint logics.
