Abstract:To study comprehensive evaluation problems in which criteria values and marks are fuzzy numbers,fuzzy numbers are introduced into grey relational comprehensive evaluation field,then a new multi-level and multi-attribute grey relational comprehensive evaluation method based on plane distance between fuzzy numbers is proposed.To evaluate the safety of fastener-style tubular steel formwork-support(FTSF) in project management,a safety assessment of multi-level and multi-attribute system was established on the basis of consultation with a number of FTSF experts.After investigation in 10 construction sites in terms of questionnaire,the weight and mark of each index in the system was brought out.Utilizing the new method,a system of construction safety appraisal for FTSF is presented.Finally an application shows the correctness and effectiveness of the proposed method and the assessment system for FTSF.

Abstract:Conceptual design is a pivotal stage of new product development in manufacturing industries. Since multiple design alternatives are put forward at this stage, developing advanced evaluation methods is of great importance. Existing methods adopt additive models to integrate evaluation data. They face some inconsistency issues, e.g. inconsistency in the independent assumption and interdependent data, since evaluation criteria are interactional. Fuzzy measure that replaces the additivity with monotonicity has enabled advances in addressing such issues. This work proposes a two-additive fuzzy measure-based information integration approach to product design alternative evaluation for the first time. The evaluation data given by experts are in the form of intuitionistic linguistic numbers. They are more in accordance with the thinking habits of experts because the hesitation degree in linguistic assessment can be revealed. In order to reduce the subjective bias, the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory method combining with grey relational analysis is applied to adjust evaluation data. Then monotonous two-additive fuzzy measure is identified by nonlinear programming using these data. It makes a good trade-off between computational complexity and presentation capability. Hence, evaluation data can be integrated by non-additive Choquet integral for ranking design alternatives. In comparison to additive model-based methods, the extra effect on the simultaneous satisfaction of criteria can be effectively revealed by the proposed approach. And the robustness of it is demonstrated by the sensitivity analysis. A case study on an elevator's design alternative evaluation is conducted to illustrate the feasibility and practicability of the proposed approach.

Abstract:Tolerance design affects not only the product performance, but also the cost of a product and the manufacturing process. In this paper, a fuzzy multi-criteria evaluation model is developed to study the manufacturability evaluation in concurrent tolerance design. This model is formulated and analyzed based on fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. The manufacturability of parts can be evaluated at the design stage with consideration of the manufacturing constraints imposed. The results of the study point out the importance of early decision making capability. ©2009 IEEE.

Abstract:The concept evaluation of mechanical product is essentially a multi-attribute decision making (MADM) problem in the fuzzy environment. In order to reduce the adverse impact of preference or judgments of decision makers on the final evaluation results, this paper attempts to propose an integrated fuzzy multi-attribute decision making methodology that combines the fuzzy TOPSIS technique and the objective weighting to evaluate mechanical product. The fuzzy TOPSIS technique is applied to rank the design alternatives, and the objective weighting method is integrated into the fuzzy TOPSIS technique to determine the appropriate criteria weights. Finally, a real application to pan mechanism selection for a cooking robot is demonstrated.

Abstract:In order to evaluate the comprehensive benefit of the whole process from the early decision to the later operation. A nuclear power plant evaluation system based on comprehensive fuzzy theory is proposed. Firstly, the implementation process of the nuclear power plant from the early stage decision to the later stage of operation is analyzed. The main factors that affect the comprehensive benefit of the whole implementation process of nuclear power plant are determined. Then the index layer factors are obtained based on the main factors of the criterion layer. Therefore, the comprehensive evaluation index system of nuclear power plant is established. Finally, the weight coefficient of each factor in the index system is determined based on AHP and fuzzy evaluation method, and the comprehensive evaluation based on comprehensive fuzzy theory is carried out for a nuclear power plant.

Abstract:Selecting an aero-engine which can effectively meet the design requirements of aircraft is the first step in the overall program design of aircraft. The common judgment is fuzzy. The current judgment studies of aero-engine performance often limited to a particular aspect and can’t reflect the overall performance. So we can’t accurately select and use. This paper aims to solve this problem. Taking two aero-engines as examples, the related parameters are quantified depending on the design requirements for the aircraft. A fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model is established based on fuzzy mathematical theory. Then according to the principle of maximum membership degree, the paper selects the most suitable engine. Meanwhile the applicability of the theory in the field of engineering is verified and provides guidance for other engineering fields.

Abstract:<p class="a-plus-plus">Aiming at the problem that the multi-objective evaluation of performance and the weighting coefficients of indexes is difficult to find, a fuzzy comprehensive performance evaluation method of rolling linear guide (RLG) is proposed. Considering the static and dynamic indexes, a structure model containing nine weighting coefficients was constructed. The performance evaluation function was established by the compromise programming method and the average power method, while weighting coefficients were determined by the improved analytic hierarchy process (I-AHP); the mathematical model was obtained to evaluate the RLG in a certain application. The evaluation results show that the confidence of the static, dynamic and comprehensive performance of the RLG is 59.21 %, 81.97 %, and 63.34 %, respectively. The feasibility of the method was verified by numerical simulation. This method indicates the pros and cons of the performance of the RLG and also indicates the direction for its optimized design.</p>

Abstract:Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part D: Journal of Automobile Engineering, Ahead of Print. High power density wet friction components are crucial in heavy equipment transmission systems, directly influencing equipment reliability. This paper proposes a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method with combined weighting, which dynamically divides the performance degradation of wet friction components into three stages. It constructs a multi-indicator, multi-level evaluation system, in which the performance degradation data is obtained from the wet clutch accelerated life test. Additionally, we utilize the combined weighting method to dynamically allocate weights for evaluation indicators at different stages and introduce the trapezoidal distribution membership function. The accuracy of the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model is then verified by using two prediction models as a comparison method. The results indicate that the model achieves an average relative error of 14.79% and a correlation coefficient R2 of 0.9580, indicating higher usability and accuracy than the prediction models. Furthermore, the evaluation indicator weights are more sensitive to pressure variations.

Abstract:Fuzzy synthetic evaluation is an effective decision-making method in the comprehensive evaluation of things affected by multiple factors. During the evaluation, the evaluation results are expressed in the fuzzy sets, but not denoted in the positive or negative manner absolutely. When evaluating the stamping performance, die engineers generally used some descriptions as Â¿good forming performanceÂ¿, Â¿bad forming performanceÂ¿, Â¿able to formÂ¿, and etc., to assess the stamped parts. However all these descriptions were fuzzy conceptions in a great extent. In order to solve these problems, fuzzy synthetic evaluation method was utilized in this paper to evaluate the forming performance of the stamped parts. Firstly, the influencing factor set including shape complexity factors, material performance factors, precision factors, etc., was established. Secondly, the evaluation set was built based on the evaluation results of the forming performance. Then, the evaluation weight set of forming performance was constructed according to the different effects of each factor. Finally, the forming performance of a typical stamped part was evaluated based on the developed fuzzy synthetic evaluation model, and the perfect result was achieved.

Abstract:Based on the gearbox as the research object, we discussed the problem: how to confirm every part's weight when assess gearbox's state by fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method. Contraposing the main problem of the weight-fixed Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) that ignoring every part's fault degree in the process of evaluation, a variable weight method is proposed base on the rate of fault degree contribution. And to a state known gearbox, the weight of each part in the whole gearbox assessment is confirmed by the AHP and the variable weight method respectively. The comparison of the two assessment results shows that the result get by the variable weight method is more close to the gearbox's real state, so this method is more accurate. What's more this method is very simple, and can be used in real project.

Abstract:Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) helps to identify the weak points in the processing, manufacturing, and assembly of products and plays an important role in improving product reliability. To address the shortcomings of the existing FMEA methods in terms of the uncertainty treatment of information and not considering the weights and correlations between risk factors, we propose a new FMEA method. In this paper, the Fermatean fuzzy Z-number (FFZN) is proposed by fusing the Fermatean fuzzy number and Z-number. Extending it to the Bonferroni mean (BM) operator, the Fermatean fuzzy Z-number-weighted Bonferroni mean (FFZWBM) operator is proposed. A new FMEA method is proposed based on this operator. In order to overcome the factors not considered in the FMEA method, two new risk factors are proposed and added. The ability of experts to express fuzzy information is enhanced by introducing the FFS. The weights and correlations between the influencing factors can be handled by aggregating the evaluation information using the FFZWBM operator. Finally, the proposed method is applied to an arithmetic example and the accuracy of the proposed method is proved by teaming it with other methods.

Abstract:The conventional reliability analysis of mechanical vibration component only considers the randomness of vibration but rarely for the fuzziness that may exist. It is therefore difficult to be consistent with the engineering practices. Based on the mechanical vibration theory, a novel fuzzy reliability approach by integrating the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation and fuzzy set theory is proposed in this paper. The fuzzy comprehensive evaluation is used to optimize the fuzzy factors of the reliability analysis of vibration component. With the aim of comparing the performance of the proposed approach with the conventional approach, two engineering examples are presented. The results demonstrate that the proposed approach is better than the conventional approach for its capability of covering fuzzy factors in the engineering problems.

Abstract:A fuzzy decision model is proposed to select an optimum design from various design alternatives. At the first, the evaluated objectives are arranged in a hierarchical structure with several levels. Secondly the relative contribution of each criterion to the overall value is quantified based on AHP method. Owing to vague concepts of the people' feeling, the information of the degrees of satisfaction of each criteria perceptions of people on the design ideas are quantified with the membership functions of a fuzzy set. Afterward, a weighted generalized mean method is used to calculate the fuzzy probability level by level from the lowest-level objectives. After the fuzzy expected values of the top-level objectives are calculated, they are then used to make a decision quantitatively on selecting the optimal design alternative. Although a cash register is taken as an example in this study, this method can also be used on other products.

Abstract:Abstract Designing a mechatronic system is a complex task since it deals with a high number of system components with multidisciplinary nature in the presence of interacting design objectives. Currently, the sequential design is widely used by designers in industries that deal with different domains and their corresponding design objectives separately leading to a functional but not necessarily an optimal result. Consequently, the need for a systematic and multiobjective design methodology arises. A new conceptual design approach based on a multicriteria profile for mechatronic systems has been previously presented by the authors, which uses a series of nonlinear fuzzy-based aggregation functions to facilitate decision-making for design evaluation in the presence of interacting criteria. Choquet fuzzy integrals are one of the most expressive and reliable preference models used in decision theory for multicriteria decision-making. They perform a weighted aggregation by the means of fuzzy measures assigning a weight to any coalition of criteria. This enables the designers to model importance and also interactions among criteria, thus covering an important range of possible decision outcomes. However, specification of the fuzzy measures involves many parameters and is very difficult when only relying on the designer's intuition. In this paper, we discuss three different methods of fuzzy measure identification tailored for a mechatronic design process and exemplified by a case study of designing a vision-guided quadrotor drone. The results obtained from each method are discussed in the end.

Abstract:The fuzzy mathematics has been applied in the mould design in this paper.Taking the cylindrical part for example,it introduces the fuzzy synthetical evaluation theory application of the fuzzy mathematics to the deep drawing of the mould design.It analyzes the main factors of deep drawing-the limit drawing coefficient.And pointed out the fuzzy adjustable factors and unchangeable factors for the first time,explains the theory and principle of the fuzzy adjustable factors which inflects the limit drawing coefficient and summarizes and makes the improvement on the predecessors' experiences and skills.The process could be implemented by computer programming.
