Abstract:Terbium complexes with benzoic acid and its derivatives o-hydroxybenzoic acid and p-hydroxybenzoic acid were in situ synthesized in sol–gel derived silica matrix via a two-step sol–gel process. The formation process of the complex was characterized by fluorescence spectra, absorption spectra and IR spectra. The gels that contain in situ synthesized complexes exhibit the characteristic emission bands of terbium ion. The fluorescence lifetimes of Tb3+ in the silica gels are longer than those in the pure complexes and in the solutions that contain the corresponding complexes.

Abstract:In situ synthesis kinetics of salicylic acid terbium complexes in sol-gel derived host materials has been investigated. With the increase of the heat treatment time, the broad excitation band in the excitation spectra of the salicylic acid and terbium chloride co-doped gel glass was formed gradually and the luminescence intensity increased gradually, which indicated the gradual synthesis of the salicylic acid terbium complexes in the gel glass during the heat treatment. In situ synthesis reactions of the salicylic acid terbium complexes in 90°C, 120°C, 150°C were found to be second-order reactions, and can be described by the integrated rate equation: 1/(1 - x) - 1 = ak_2 t , where x is the fractional concentration of the synthesized complex and t the reaction time. According to Arrhenius equation, the activation energy of in situ synthesis of the salicylic acid terbium complexes in the gel glasses was calculated to be 46.39 KJ/mol.

Abstract:A novel macroporous silica-based 2,6-bis(5,6-dibutyl-1,2,4-triazine-3-yl)pyridine (BDBTP) material, BDBTP/SiO2-P, was prepared through impregnation and immobilization of BDBTP and octanol into the pores of the SiO2-P particles. The adsorption of 10 typical fission and nonfission elements contained in highly active liquid waste (HLW) onto BDBTP/SiO2-P was investigated by examining the effect of contact time and the HNO3 concentration in the range of 0.1-5.0 M. Pd(II), a weak Lewis acid and an electron-pair acceptor, was strongly complexed with nitrogen, a weak Lewis base and an electron-pair donor. BDBTP/SiO2-P showed excellent adsorption ability and high selectivity for Pd(II) over all the tested metals. The separation of Pd(II) from a simulated HLW was performed by BDBTP/SiO2-P packed column. Pd(II) was effectively eluted with 0.2 M thiourea and separated from the others. It demonstrated that in HNO3, application of the macroporous silica-based BDBTP/SiO2-P material in partitioning and recovery of Pd(II) from HLW is promising. Abstract:To separate Pd(II), a macroporous silica-based soft-ligand 2,6-bis(5,6-di(iso-butyl)-1,2,4-triazine-3-yl)pyridine (BDIBTP) material, BDIBTP/SiO2-P, was synthesized by vacuum treatment. It was a multidentate chelating composite prepared by impregnation and immobilization of BDIBTP and 1-octanol molecules into the pores of the macroporous SiO2-P particles with a mean diameter of 50 mu m. 1-Octanol was used to modify BDIBTP through intermolecular interaction force. The adsorption of some typical fission products Zr(IV), Pd(II), La(III), Y(III), Ru(III), Rh(III), and Mo(VI) contained in highly active liquid waste (HLW) onto the BDIBTP/ SiO2-P materials was investigated. It was carried out by examining the effects of contact time and the concentration of HNO3 in the range of 0.3M7.0M. BDIBTP/SiO2-P showed excellent adsorption ability and high selectivity for Pd(II) over all of the tested metals. It was ascribed to the effective complexation of Pd(II) with BDIBTP/SiO2-P. Consideration of the complexation of BDIBTP for minor actinides MAs(III), the possibility and feasibility of effective partitioning of Pd(II) and MAs(III) simultaneously from a simulated HLW were discussed. A new concept process entitled MPS for the MA(III) and Pd(II) Separation has been proposed.

Abstract:The complex of Eu(III) with 2,2′-dipyridyl is decomposed by water, and thus cannot be doped in gel glasses prepared by the sol-gel process. This paper presents a novel technique of homogeneous doping of the 2,2′-dipyridyl-Eu(III) complex in silica gel glass. By codoping of 2,2′-dipyridyl and Eu(III) in silica xerogel, an in situ complex of Eu(III) with 2,2′-dipyridyl is synthesized in the transparent monolithic gel glass by suitable heat treatment. Compared with a sample undergoing no heat treatment, the fluorescence intensity of Eu(III) in the xenogel heated at 100°C for 24 h increases by a factor of about ten due to the formation of the in situ 2,2′-dipyridyl-Eu(III) complex. From the fluorescence spectrum, it is suggested that the in situ complex may be Eu(C10H8N2)Cl3·4H2O.

Abstract:The in-situ synthesis and photophysical properties of a p-hydroxybenzoic acid-terbium (PHBA-Tb3+) complex in sol-gel derived host materials have been investigated. The Raman scattering spectrum of a 1% TbCl3-3% PHBA co-doped gel was the same as that of the PHBA-Tb3+ complex powders synthesized in ethanolic solution, indicating that the PHBA-Tb3+ complex was synthesized in the 1% TbCl3-3% PHBA co-doped gel. The steady-state excitation and emission spectra of the 1% TbCl3-3% PHBA co-doped gel, which were similar to those of the PHBA-Tb3+ complex powders, also indicated the synthesis of the PHBA-Tb3+ complex in the 1% TbCl3-3% PHBA co-doped gel. The time-resolved spectra of the 1% TbCl3-3% PHBA co-doped gel indicated an efficient ligand-to-metal energy transfer, which also confirmed the synthesis of the PHBA-Tb3+ complex in the gel. The luminescence decay curve of the 1% TbCl3-3% PHBA co-doped gel could be fitted by a double-exponential function. Due to the less efficient non-radiative D-5(4) relaxation processes in the gel, the presence of the PHBA-Tb3+ complex in the gel led to greatly increased D-5(4) lifetimes.

Abstract:The synthesis in situ of Eu(TTA)3 in the SiO2 films was investigated. The Thenoyltrifluoroacetone (TTA) was dissolved in ethanol in advance, and then the EuCl3 and ethanol containing TTA were introduced into the initial precursor sol. The precursor sol was dip-coated onto substrates to form Eu(TTA)3 doped SiO2 films. The relationship between luminescence intensity of EuCl3 and TTA co-doped SiO2 films and heat treatment time can be described by JMA equation. The activation energy of the synthesized process of Eu(TTA)3 in the SiO2 films was calculated.

Abstract:Four novel dinuclear platinum complexes [PtCl2(Me2SO)](2)(L) with pyridine-based single bridging ligands, L=4,4'-dipyridyl selenide (dpse), bis(3-methyl-4-pyridyl) selenide (dpsem), 4,4'-dipyridyl sulfide (dpsu), bis(3-methyl-4-pyridyl) sulfide (dpsum), have been prepared for use as potential anticancer agents. The characterization of these complexes is based on microanalysis, IR, H-1, C-13 and Pt-195 NMR.
Synthesis and Biological Activity of Binuclear Platinum Complexes Containing Two Monofunctional Cis-[Pt(Nh3)(2)Cl](+) Units Bridged by 4,4 '-Dipyridyl Selenides or Sulfides

Abstract:The synthesis of four binuclear platinum complexes of general formula ¿cis-[Pt(NH3)2Cl]2(L)¿ (NO3)2 [L is 4,4'-dipyridyl sulfide (compound I), 4,4'-dipyridyl selenide (compound II), bis(3-methyl-4-pyridyl) sulfide (compound III) or bis(3-methyl-4-pyridyl) selenide (compound IV)] has been achieved. These compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and 195Pt-NMR spectroscopy. The above dinuclear platinum complexes have been assayed for antitumor activity in vitro against the cisplatin-sensitive L1210 (the mice leukemia) and cisplatin-insensitive HCT8 (the human coloadenocarcinoma) cell lines. The compounds show IC50 values comparable to or higher than cisplatin against L1210 cell line; however, they have lower IC50 values than cisplatin against the cisplatin-insensitive HCT8 cell line. The complexes containing S exhibit a cytotoxicity against the two cancer cell lines superior to the Se analogues. DNA binding studies indicate the compound I possibly interacts with DNA nonintercalatively. The mode of DNA binding of the dinuclear Pt(II) complexes bridged by 4,4'-dipyridyl selenides or sulfides may be different to that of the aliphatic diaminebridged dinuclear Pt(II) complexes reported previously.

Abstract:Using a newly developed “in-situ syntheses” technique during sol-gel process, copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) is synthesized in-situ in silica xerogel matrix homogeneously. It has been confirmed by UV-Vis and IR spectroscopies that the copper ions which existed in the form of complex-ions [Cu(H 2 O) 4 ] 2+ and [CuCl 4 ] 2− in the stages of sol and wet gel were destroyed in the heat treatment process, meanwhile the copper phthalocyanine molecules were synthesized in-situ gradually during the wet gel to xerogel transition. The dimerization phenomenon of CuPc in the composite is suppressed greatly because the in-situ synthesized CuPc molecules were well isolated in the micro-pores of the xerogel matrix. The doping concentration of Copper phthalocyanine in sol-gel derived matrix can be enhanced also by this in-situ synthesis method.

Abstract:In-situ synthesis of terbium complex with salicylic acid (Sal) in silica matrix was made by a two-step sol-gel process. The terbium complex with salicylic acid was formed in sol-gel derived silica gel, and confirmed by the luminescence excitation spectra and infrared(IR) spectra. As compared to the pure terbium complex powder, the silica gel containing terbium complex exhibits its characteristic emission and presents a longer fluorescence lifetime than that for the pure complex. The luminescence properties of the complex containing;silica gel were investigated and compared with that of both terbium doped the silica gel and thp pure complex powder. The reasons leading to the above results were also discussed.

Abstract:The complexes of (Eu3+, Tb3+) with 1,10-phenanthroline (Phen) may be decom posed in aqueous solutions, and thus can not be doped in gel glasses prepared by a traditional sol-gel process. Using in-situ synthesis technique, homogeneous silica gel glasses doped with Phen-Eu3+ (or Tb3+) complexes are obtained. Co-introducing Eu3+ (or Tb3+) and Phen into sol-gel derived silica gel glasses, the in-situ complexes of Eu3+ (or Tb3+) with Phen are confirmed to synthesize in the transparent monolithic gel glasses through a suitable heat-treatment by fluorescence spectra. Compared to that in no heat-treatment sample, the fluorescence intensity of Eu3+ (or Tb3+) in the gel glasses heated at 100℃ for 24 h increases by a factor of about 200 (or 300) as a result of the forming of the in-situ Phen-Eu3+ (or Tb3+) complexes. Owing to the shield of silica network, the thermal stability of the in-situ complexes dispersed in gel glasses increases by over 200℃. Moreover, the high resolution emission spectrum of Eu3+ measured at 77K indicates that the symmetry of Eu3+ sites in complex Eu(Phen)2Cl3-2H2O is C1 or C2 or Cs.

Abstract:The 2-pyridinecarboxylic acid europium(III) complexes (Eu(PA)3) could be dissolved by acetic acid (HAC). The relationship between absorbance and concentration of Eu(PA)3 complexes in HAC was linear. The Eu(PA)3 complexes have been in situ synthesized in the 1% EuCl3 and 3% 2-pyridinecarboxylic acid (PA) co-doped gels. The concentration of the Eu(PA)3 complexes which had been in situ synthesized in the gel was obtained by measuring absorption spectra of the HAC solution in which the Eu(PA)3 complexes in the gel had been extracted according to the relationship between the absorbance and the concentration of the Eu(PA)3 complexes in HAC. The dependence of the concentration of the Eu(PA)3 complexes which were in situ synthesized in the gel on the heat treatment time at 90 °C have been determined.

Abstract:In the solvothermal condition, a Pd(II) complex with a in situ synthesis ligand, [Pd(2,2’-bipy)2(CN)2] (1) was obtained and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV, TG, and powder X-ray analysis. The single crystal X-ray analysis showed that the title complex is different from the reported 2,2’-bipyridyl-dicyanopalladium(II) (2) in crystal system and structural parameters. The catalytic investigation for the reactions of the disproportionation of hydrogen peroxide and oxidation of sulfide showed that the complex 1 is an active homogeneous catalyst in the presence of imidazole and 2-sulfobenzoic acid, respectively.

Abstract:A new tridentate hydrosilane (2-SiH3C6H4)(2)SiH2 reacts with a mixture of Pd(PEt3)(4) and R2PCH2CH2PR2 (R = Me or Et) to give dinuclear (silyl)(mu -silylene)palladium(II) complexes, while the reaction with a mixture of Pd(PEt3)(4) and Cy2PCH2- CH2PCy2 (Cy = cyclohexyl) afforded a mononuclear (silyl)(disilanyl)palladium(II) complex, the Si-Si bond of which was formed by the intramolecular dehydrocoupling. The structures of the new complexes were determined by X-ray diffraction.
[S2-->S0 Radiative Transition of 2,2'-Bipyridine Doped in Silica Gel Glass].

Abstract:Doping 2,2'-bipyridine molecules in silica gel glass leads to special spectroscopic properties compared to those dissolved in liquid solutions. For the sample without heat treatment, two broad bands centered at 400 nm and 454 nm respectively, induced by the radiative transition from the first excited level S1 to the ground level S0 and attributed to the emission from an excited dimeric 2,2'-bipyridine species respectively, were observed. After heat-treated at 200 degrees C, the excimer emission at 454 nm disappeared, and the sample exhibited another emission band centered at 325 nm due to the radiative transition from the second excited level S2 to the ground level. S2-->S0 transition resulted from restricting 2,2'-bipyridine molecules in silica networks. Only the structure emission of S2-->S0 transition was observed when heat-treated at 550 degrees C, which indicates that most of 2,2'-bipyridine molecules were entrapped in the cages of Si-O network. The above results can be used to characterize the microstructural evolution of hybrid organic-inorganic optical materials.

Abstract:Treatment of Ag(CF3CO2) with an equivalent of bis(diphenylphosphino)amide (dppa) gave a trinuclear trigonal-bipyramidal silver(I) complex [Ag3(μ3-Cl)2(μ-dppa)3][CF3CO2]・CH2Cl2・H2O ([1] [CF3CO2]・CH2Cl2・H2O). Reaction of AgNO3 with an equivalent of dppa in the presence of [NH4] [GaCl4] and [Et4N][FeCl4] afforded the corresponding complexes [Ag3(μ3-Cl)2(μ-dppa)3][GaCl4]・ 2THF・MeOH・H2O, ([1][GaCl4]・2THF・MeOH・H2O) and [Ag3(μ-Cl)(μ3-Cl)(μ-dppa)3][FeCl4], ([2] [FeCl4]), respectively.
