Phase conjugation by degenerate four-wave mixing in nematic liquid crystals

Abstract:An analytical expression for the efficiency of phase conjugation by degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) due to the optically induced molecular reorientation in nematic liquid crystals (NLC) was given. By examining the dependence of the phase conjugation on the angle between the pump beam and the probe beams, and on the angle between the plane of the accident beams and the nematic director, the behavior and physical origin of this kind of phase conjugation were discussed. The roles of other factors such as the optical path, light propagating velocity and light intensity were introduced.
