Abstract:By using the structure of a subclass of quasi-cyclic codes to search with a computer, and by applying some usual code transformation, seven new linear codes were obtained, which improve the lower bounds on the minimum distance or a binary linear code. Three of them are optimal.

Abstract:As a generalization of cyclic codes, quasi-cyclic (QC) codes contain many good linear codes. But quasi-cyclic codes studied so far are mainly limited to one generator (1-generator) QC codes. In this correspondence, 2-generator and 3-generator QC codes are studied, and many good, new QC codes are constructed from simplex codes. Some new binary QC codes or related codes, that improve the bounds on maximum minimum distance for binary linear codes are constructed. They are 5-generator QC $[93, 17, 34] $ and $[254, 23, 102]$ codes, and related $[96, 17, 36]$, $[256, 23, 104]$ codes.

At present, researchers have constructed many optimal ternary cyclic codes, but the study on quinary cyclic codes is less developed. In this paper, by analyzing the solutions of certain equations over , we construct some optimal quinary cyclic codes with three zeros and with parameters , . Moreover, the weight distributions of two classes of their duals are also provided.

Cyclic and Negacyclic Codes with Optimal and Best Known Minimum Distances

Abstract:In this paper, we construct a new family of distance-optimal binary cyclic codes with the minimum distance $6$ and a new family of distance-optimal quaternary cyclic codes with the minimum distance $4$. We also construct several families of cyclic and negacyclic codes over ${\bf F}_2$, ${\bf F}_3$, ${\bf F}_4$, ${\bf F}_5$, ${\bf F}_7$ and ${\bf F}_9$ with good parameters $n,\,k,\,d$, such that the maximal possible minimum distance $d_{max}$ of a linear $[n, k]_q$ code is at most $d_{max} \leq d+8$. The first codes in these families have optimal or best known minimum distances. $145$ optimal or best known codes are constructed as cyclic codes, negacyclic codes, their shortening codes and punctured codes. All optimal or best known codes constructed in this paper are not equivalent to the presently best known codes. Several infinite families of negacyclic $[n,\frac{n+1}{2}, d]_q$ codes or $[n, \frac{n}{2}, d]_q$ codes, such that their minimum distances satisfy $d\approx O(\frac{n}{\log_q n})$, are also constructed. These are first several families of such negacyclic codes.

Abstract:Recently, simplicial complexes are used in constructions of several infinite families of minimal and optimal linear codes by Hyun et al. Building upon their research, in this paper more linear codes over the ring Z4 are constructed by simplicial complexes. Specifically, the Lee weight distributions of the resulting quaternary codes are determined and two infinite families of four-Lee-weight quaternary codes are obtained. Compared to the databases of Z4 codes by Aydin et al., at least nine new quaternary codes are found. Thanks to the special structure of the defining sets, we have the ability to determine whether the Gray images of certain obtained quaternary codes are linear or not. This allows us to obtain two infinite families of binary nonlinear codes and one infinite family of binary minimal linear codes. Furthermore, utilizing these minimal binary codes, some secret sharing schemes as a byproduct also are established.

Abstract:Cyclic codes are an important subclass of linear codes and have wide applications in data storage systems, communication systems and consumer electronics. In this paper, two families of optimal ternary cyclic codes are presented. The first family of cyclic codes has parameters [3m−1,3m−1−2m,4] and contains a class of conjectured cyclic codes and several new classes of optimal cyclic codes. The second family of cyclic codes has parameters [3m−1,3m−2−2m,5] and contains a number of classes of cyclic codes that are obtained from perfect nonlinear functions over F3m, where m>1 and is a positive integer.

Abstract:Cyclic codes are an important class of linear codes. Bounding the minimum distance of cyclic codes is a long-standing research topic in coding theory, and several well-known and basic results have been developed on this topic. Recently, locally repairable codes (LRCs) have attracted much attention due to their repair efficiency in large-scale distributed storage systems. In this paper, by employing the singleton procedure technique, we first provide a sufficient condition for bounding the minimum distance of cyclic codes with typical defining sets. Secondly, by considering a specific case, we establish a connection between bounds for the minimum distance of cyclic codes and solutions to a system of inequalities. This connection leads to the derivation of new bounds, including some with general patterns. In particular, we provide three new bounds with general patterns, one of which serves as a generalization of the Betti-Sala bound. Finally, we present a generalized lower bound for a special case and construct several families of (2, δ)-LRCs with unbounded length and minimum distance 2δ. It turns out that these LRCs are distance-optimal, and their parameters are new. To the best of our knowledge, this work represents the first construction of distance-optimal (r, δ)-LRCs with unbounded length and minimum distance exceeding r + δ - 1.

Optimal linear codes with few weights from simplicial complexes

Abstract:Recently, constructions of optimal linear codes from simplicial complexes have attracted much attention and some related nice works were presented. Let $q$ be a prime power. In this paper, by using the simplicial complexes of ${\mathbb F}_{q}^m$ with one single maximal element, we construct four families of linear codes over the ring ${\mathbb F}_{q}+u{\mathbb F}_{q}$ ($u^2=0$), which generalizes the results of [IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory 66(6):3657-3663, 2020]. The parameters and Lee weight distributions of these four families of codes are completely determined. Most notably, via the Gray map, we obtain several classes of optimal linear codes over ${\mathbb F}_{q}$, including (near) Griesmer codes and distance-optimal codes.

Some quaternary additive codes outperform linear counterparts

Abstract:The additive codes may have better parameters than linear codes. However, it is still a challenging problem to efficiently construct additive codes that outperform linear codes, especially those with greater distances than linear codes of the same lengths and dimensions. This paper focuses on constructing additive codes that outperform linear codes based on quasi-cyclic codes and combinatorial methods. Firstly, we propose a lower bound on the symplectic distance of 1-generator quasi-cyclic codes of index even. Secondly, we get many binary quasi-cyclic codes with large symplectic distances utilizing computer-supported combination and search methods, all of which correspond to good quaternary additive codes. Notably, some additive codes have greater distances than best-known quaternary linear codes in Grassl's code table (bounds on the minimum distance of quaternary linear codes <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://www.codetables.de" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a>) for the same lengths and dimensions. Moreover, employing a combinatorial approach, we partially determine the parameters of optimal quaternary additive 3.5-dimensional codes with lengths from $28$ to $254$. Finally, as an extension, we also construct some good additive complementary dual codes with larger distances than the best-known quaternary linear complementary dual codes in the literature.

Abstract:Based on cyclic and consta-cyclic simplex codes, a new explicit construction of a family of two-weight codes is presented. These two-weight codes obtained are in the form of 2-generator quasi-cyclic, or quasi-twisted structure. Based on this construction, new optimal binary quasi-cyclic [195, 8, 96], [210, 8, 104] and [240, 8, 120] codes, and good QC ternary [208, 6, 135] and [221, 6, 144] codes are thus obtained. It is also shown that many codes among the family meet the Griesmer bound and thereful are optimal.
Improved Spectral Bound for Quasi-Cyclic Codes

Abstract:Spectral bounds form a powerful tool to estimate the minimum distances of quasi-cyclic codes. They generalize the defining set bounds of cyclic codes to those of quasi-cyclic codes. Based on the eigenvalues of quasi-cyclic codes and the corresponding eigenspaces, we provide an improved spectral bound for quasi-cyclic codes. Numerical results verify that the improved bound outperforms the Jensen bound in almost all cases. Based on the improved bound, we propose a general construction of quasi-cyclic codes with excellent designed minimum distances. For the quasi-cyclic codes produced by this general construction, the improved spectral bound is always sharper than the Jensen bound.

Abstract:Cyclic codes are important in both theory and practice and have wide applications in communication and storage systems. It is interesting to construct infinite families of binary cyclic codes, where dimensions are close to half of the length and the minimum distances approach the square-root bound. Motivated by recent works on binary cyclic codes published by Tang and Ding (2022)[9] and Liu et al. (2023) [4], the objective of this paper is to construct several infinite families of binary cyclic codes of length and dimensions close to half of the length. We developed some lower bounds on their minimum distances using the BCH bound for cyclic codes, which exhibit square-root-like lower bounds. The parameters of the dual codes of these binary cyclic codes were also investigated.

Abstract:An anticode ${\bf C} \subset {\bf F}_q^n$ with the diameter $\delta$ is a code in ${\bf F}_q^n$ such that the distance between any two distinct codewords in ${\bf C}$ is at most $\delta$. The famous Erdös-Kleitman bound for a binary anticode ${\bf C}$ of the length $n$ and the diameter $\delta$ asserts that $$|{\bf C}| \leq \Sigma_{i=0}^{\frac{\delta}{2}} \displaystyle{n \choose i}.$$ In this paper, we give an antiGriesmer bound for $q$-ary projective linear anticodes, which is stronger than the above Erdös-Kleitman bound for binary anticodes. The antiGriesmer bound is a lower bound on diameters of projective linear anticodes. From some known projective linear anticodes, we construct some linear codes with optimal or near optimal minimum distances. A complementary theorem constructing infinitely many new projective linear $(t+1)$-weight code from a known $t$-weight linear code is presented. Then many new optimal or almost optimal few-weight linear codes are given and their weight distributions are determined. As a by-product, we also construct several infinite families of three-weight binary linear codes, which lead to $l$-strongly regular graphs for each odd integer $l \geq 3$.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct a large family of projective linear codes over ${\mathbb F}_{q}$ from the general simplicial complexes of ${\mathbb F}_{q}^m$ via the defining-set construction, which generalizes the results of [IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory 66(11):6762-6773, 2020]. The parameters and weight distribution of this class of codes are completely determined. By using the Griesmer bound, we give a necessary and sufficient condition such that the codes are Griesmer codes and a sufficient condition such that the codes are distance-optimal. For a special case, we also present a necessary and sufficient condition for the codes to be near Griesmer codes. Moreover, by discussing the cases of simplicial complexes with one, two and three maximal elements respectively, the parameters and weight distributions of the codes are given more explicitly, which shows that the codes are at most $2$-weight, $5$-weight and $19$-weight respectively. By studying the optimality of the codes for the three cases in detail, many infinite families of optimal linear codes with few weights over ${\mathbb F}_{q}$ are obtained, including Griesmer codes, near Griesmer codes and distance-optimal codes.

Denote by $\mathcal{C}_{(i_1,i_2,\cdots, i_t)}$ the cyclic code with generator polynomial $m_{\alpha^{i_1}}(x)m_{\alpha^{i_2}}(x)\cdots m_{\alpha^{i_t}}(x)$, where ${{m}_{\alpha^{i}}}(x)$ is the minimal polynomial of ${{\alpha }^{i}}$ over ${\mathbb{F}_{3}}$. In this paper, by analyzing the solutions of certain equations over finite fields, we present four classes of optimal ternary cyclic codes $\mathcal{C}_{(0,1,e)}$ and $\mathcal{C}_{(1,e,s)}$ with parameters $[3^m-1,3^m-\frac{3m}{2}-2,4]$, where $s=\frac{3^m-1}{2}$. In addition, by determining the solutions of certain equations and analyzing the irreducible factors of certain polynomials over $\mathbb{F}_{3^m}$, we present four classes of optimal ternary cyclic codes $\mathcal{C}_{(2,e)}$ and $\mathcal{C}_{(1,e)}$ with parameters $[3^m-1,3^m-2m-1,4]$. We show that our new optimal cyclic codes are inequivalent to the known ones.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider group rings and skew group rings and use them to construct binary quantum error-correcting codes(QECCs, for short). We study three classes of groups: direct product of two cyclic groups, dihedral group, direct product of cyclic group and dihedral group. And several special groups. Using these groups we can get construction matrix of the linear codes over . Then by computer search, we get 12 new binary QECCs with parameters [[40,16,7]], [[42,14,8]], [[48,20,8]], [[50,24,7]], [[54,34,6]], [[55,21,9]], [[60,38,6]], [[60,32,7]], [[70,42,7]], [[72,50,6]], [[75,47,7]], [[75,39,8]]. They both break the best-known lower bound on minimum distance in the Grassl's code tables.

Abstract:In this article we mainly study linear codes over and their binary subfield codes. We construct linear codes over whose defining sets are the certain subsets of obtained from mathematical objects called simplicial complexes. We will consider simplicial complexes with one maximal element. The relation of the weights of codewords in two special codes obtained from simplicial complexes is illustrated by using LFSR sequences. And then we determine the parameters of these codes with the help of Boolean functions. As a result, we obtain five infinite families of distance optimal codes and give sufficient conditions for these codes to be minimal.

Abstract:Recently, linear codes with few weights have been widely studied, since they have applications in data storage systems, communication systems and consumer electronics. In this paper, we present a class of three-weight and five-weight linear codes over Fp, where p is an odd prime and Fp denotes a finite field with p elements. The weight distributions of the linear codes constructed in this paper are also settled. Moreover, the linear codes illustrated in the paper may have applications in secret sharing schemes.
