Abstract:A collection D of subsets of a space is minimal if each element of D contains a point which is not contained in any other element of D. Abase of a topological space is sigma-minimal if it can be written as a union of countably many minimal collections. We will construct a compact linearly ordered space X satisfying that X is not metrizable and every subspace of X has a sigma-minimal base for its relative topology. This answers a problem of Bennett and Lutzer in the negative.

Abstract:We prove that: 1. If a Hausdorff M-space is a continuous closed image of a submetrizable space, then it is metrizable. 2. A dense-in-itself open-closed image of a submetrizable space is submetrizable if and only if it is functionally Hausdorff and has a countable pseudocharacter. 3. Let $Y$ be a dense-in-itself space with the following property: $\forall y\in Y\ \exists Q(y) \subseteq Y\ [y \text{ is a non-isolated q-point in } Q(y)]$. If $Y$ is an open-closed image of a submetrizable space, then $Y$ is submetrizable. 4. There exist a submetrizable space $X$, a regular hereditarily paracompact non submetrizable first-countable space $Y$, and an open-closed map $f\colon X \to Y$.

Abstract:The theory of generalized metric spaces is an active topic in general topology. In this article, we utilize the concepts of ideal convergence and networks to discuss the metrization problem and the mutual classification problem between spaces and mappings in topological spaces. We define I - s n -metrizable spaces, obtain several characterizations of I - s n -metrizable spaces, and establish some mapping relations between I - s n -metrizable spaces and semi-metric spaces. These not only generalize some theorems in generalized metric theory, but also find further applications of ideal convergence in general topology.

Abstract:Compact metric spaces form an important class of metric spaces, but the category that they define lacks many important properties such as completeness and cocompleteness. In recent studies of "metric domain theory" and Stone-type dualities, the more general notion of a (separated) metric compact Hausdorff space emerged as a metric counterpart of Nachbin's compact ordered spaces. Roughly speaking, a metric compact Hausdorff space is a metric space equipped with a \emph{compatible} compact Hausdorff topology (which does not need to be the induced topology). These spaces maintain many important features of compact metric spaces, and, notably, the resulting category is much better behaved. Moreover, one can use inspiration from the theory of Nachbin's compact ordered spaces to solve problems for metric structures. In this paper we continue this line of research: in the category of separated metric compact Hausdorff spaces we characterise the regular monomorphisms as the embeddings and the epimorphisms as the surjective morphisms. Moreover, we show that epimorphisms out of an object $X$ can be encoded internally on $X$ by their kernel metrics, which are characterised as the continuous metrics below the metric on $X$; this gives a convenient way to represent quotient objects. Finally, as the main result, we prove that its dual category has an algebraic flavour: it is Barr-exact. While we show that it cannot be a variety of finitary algebras, it remains open whether it is an infinitary variety.

Abstract:Let $P$ be a directed set and $X$ a space. A collection $\mathcal{C}$ of subsets of $X$ is \emph{$P$-locally finite} if $\mathcal{C}=\bigcup \{ \mathcal{C}_p : p \in P\}$ where (i) if $p \le p'$ then $\mathcal{C}_p \subseteq \mathcal{C}_{p'}$ and (ii) each $\mathcal{C}_p$ is locally finite. Then $X$ is \emph{$P$-paracompact} if every open cover has a $P$-locally finite open refinement. Further, $X$ is \emph{$P$-metrizable} if it has a $(P \times \mathbb{N})$-locally finite base. This work provides the first detailed study of $P$-paracompact and $P$-metrizable spaces, particularly in the case when $P$ is a $\mathcal{K}(M)$, the set of all compact subsets of a separable metrizable space $M$ ordered by set inclusion.

Abstract:Almost ss-mappings and almost compact mappings have been introduced and studied. In this article, we continue to research some questions related to the almost s-images (resp., almost compact images) of metric spaces. The following results are obtained. (1) A space XX is a quotient and almost compact image of a metric space if and only if XX is a sequential space having a cs∗c{s}^{\ast }-network which is point-regular at nonisolated points, which gives an affirmative answer to Question 4.9 in the article “S. Lin, X. W. Ling, and Y. Ge, Point-regular covers and sequence-covering compact mappings, Topology Appl. 271 (2020), 106987.” (2) There exists a bi-quotient and almost compact image of a metric space satisfying no base, which is point-countable at nonisolated points, which gives negative answers to Question 3.1 in the article “X. Abstract:In this paper, we investigate submetrizability and first-countability of coset spaces. It is mainly shown that (1) If H is a compact subgroup of a paratopological group G such that l(G/H)ψ(G/H)≤ω, then G/H admits a weaker separable metrizable topology; (2) If H is a closed neutral subgroup of a paratopological group G, then G/H is first-countable if and only if G/H is weakly first-countable; (3) If H is a closed neutral subgroup of a topological group G, then G/H is metrizable if and only if G/H is a csf-countable and sequential α7-space; (4) If H is a compact subgroup of a topological group G, then G/H is metrizable if and only if G/H is feathered and csf-countable.

Abstract:For two not necessarily commutative topological groups G and T, let H(G,T) denote the space of all continuous homomorphisms from G to T with the compact-open topology. We prove that if G is metrizable and T is compact then H(G,T) is a k-space. As a consequence we obtain that if G_1 is a dense subgroup of G then H(G_1,T) is homeomorphic to H(G,T), and if G is separable h-complete, then the natural map G --> C(H(G,T),T) is open onto its image.

Abstract:For a space $X$, let $(CL(X), \tau_V)$, $(CL(X), \tau_{locfin})$ and $(CL(X), \tau_F)$ be the set $CL(X)$ of all nonempty closed subsets of $X$ which are endowed with Vietoris topology, locally finite topology and Fell topology respectively. We prove that $(CL(X), \tau_V)$ is quasi-metrizable if and only if $X$ is a separable metrizable space and the set of all non-isolated points of $X$ is compact, $(CL(X), \tau_{locfin})$ is quasi-metrizable or symmetrizable if and only if $X$ is metrizable and the set of all non-isolated points of $X$ is compact, and $(CL(X), \tau_F)$ is quasi-metrizable if and only if $X$ is hemicompact and metrizable. As an application, we give a negative answer to a Conjecture in \cite{LL2022}.

Abstract:Galatius and Randal-Williams defined a topology on the set of closed submanifolds of ${\mathbb R}^n$. B\"okstedt and Madsen proved that a $C^1$-version of this topology is metrizable by showing that it is regular and second countable. Using that the scanning map of a topological sheaf on manifolds is an embedding, we give an explicit metric to the space considered by B\"okstedt and Madsen. Then, we compare this topology with the Fell topology and we use the Hausdorff distance to give another metric to the space of Galatius and Randal-Williams.
Compact spaces homeomorphic to their respective squares

Abstract:We deal with topological spaces homeomorphic to their respective squares. Primarily, we investigate the existence of large families of such spaces in some subclasses of compact metrizable spaces. As our main result we show that there is a family of size continuum of pairwise non-homeomorphic compact metrizable zero-dimensional spaces homeomorphic to their respective squares. This answers a question of W. J. Charatonik. We also discuss the situation in the classes of continua, Peano continua and absolute retracts.

When there is such a Tukey quotient write , and write if and vice versa. We investigate the initial structure of pairs under the relative Tukey order, focussing on the case of separable metrizable spaces. Connections are made to Menger spaces. Abstract:Let $G$ be a group with a metric $\mathrm{d}$ invariant under left and right translations, and let $\bar{\mathbb{D}}_r$ be the ball of radius $r$ around the identity. A $(k,r)$-metric approximate subgroup is a symmetric subset $X$ of $G$ such that the pairwise product set $XX$ is covered by at most $k$ translates of $X\bar{\mathbb{D}}_r$. This notion was introduced in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="math/0601431" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/math/0601431">arXiv:math/0601431</a> along with the version for discrete groups (approximate subgroups). In <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0909.2190" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0909.2190">arXiv:0909.2190</a>, it was shown for the discrete case that, at the asymptotic limit of $X$ finite but large, the "approximateness" (or need for more than one translate) can be attributed to a canonically associated Lie group. Here we prove an analogous result in the metric setting, under a certain finite covering assumption on $X$ replacing finiteness. In particular, if $G$ has bounded exponent, we show that any $(k,r)$-metric approximate subgroup is close to a $(1,r')$-metric approximate subgroup for an appropriate $r'$.

In this paper, we investigate the topological structure of the space <math>Ke(X)</math> of fuzzy compacta of a separable metric space X with the Hausdorff metric. Compact subspaces of the space of separately continuous functions with the cross-uniform topology

Abstract:We consider two natural topologies on the space $S(X\times Y,Z)$ of all separately continuous functions defined on the product of two topological spaces $X$ and $Y$ and ranged into a topological or metric space $X$. These topologies are the cross-open topology and the cross-uniform topology. We show that these topologies coincides if $X$ and $Y$ are pseudocompacts and $Z$ is a metric space. We prove that a compact space $K$ embeds into $S(X\times Y,Z)$ for infinite compacts $X$, $Y$ and a metrizable space $Z\supseteq\mathbb{R}$ if and only if the weight of $K$ is less than the sharp cellularity of both spaces $X$ and $Y$.

Characterizations of compact sets in fuzzy sets spaces with $L_p$ metric

Abstract:In this paper, we present characterizations of totally bounded sets, relatively compact sets and compact sets in the fuzzy sets spaces $F_B(\mathbb{R}^m)$ and $F_B(\mathbb{R}^m)^p$ equipped with $L_p$ metric, where $F_B(\mathbb{R}^m)$ and $F_B(\mathbb{R}^m)^p$ are two kinds of general fuzzy sets on $\mathbb{R}^m$ which do not have any assumptions of convexity or star-shapedness. Subsets of $F_B(\mathbb{R}^m)^p$ include common fuzzy sets such as fuzzy numbers, fuzzy star-shaped numbers with respect to the origin, fuzzy star-shaped numbers, and the general fuzzy star-shaped numbers introduced by Qiu et al. The existed compactness criteria are stated for three kinds of fuzzy sets spaces endowed with $L_p$ metric whose universe sets are the former three kinds of common fuzzy sets respectively. Constructing completions of fuzzy sets spaces with respect to $L_p$ metric is a problem which is closely dependent on characterizing totally bounded sets. Based on preceding characterizations of totally boundedness and relatively compactness and some discussions on convexity and star-shapedness of fuzzy sets, we show that the completions of fuzzy sets spaces mentioned in this paper can be obtained by using the $L_p$-extension. We also clarify relation among all the ten fuzzy sets spaces discussed in this paper, which consist of five pairs of original spaces and the corresponding completions. Then, we show that the subspaces of $F_B(\mathbb{R}^m)$ and $F_B(\mathbb{R}^m)^p$ mentioned in this paper have parallel characterizations of totally bounded sets, relatively compact sets and compact sets. At last, as applications of our results, we discuss properties of $L_p$ metric on fuzzy sets space and relook compactness criteria proposed in previous work.
